Saturday Night Open Thread

By

Happy birthday wishes go out to Jorge Posada, who turns 42 today. Thanks to the FOX broadcast this afternoon for pointing that out. Can you believe Posada is 42 already? That really happened in a hurry even though this is only his second year of retirement. Going from Posada’s production to what the Yankees are getting out of catcher now has been a shock to the system, even more than I was expecting, but such is life. I really miss him.

Anyway, here is your open thread for the evening. The Mets and Padres are playing later (Mejia vs. Volquez), MLB Network will air a game (who you see depends on where you live), and the Jets are playing a preseason game (NFL Network). Talk about any of those games or anything else here. Have at it.

He shares a birthday with Pedroia? Yuck, another black mark on his memory for me. ;-)

Always god to get a look at Mrs P

  3. Kramerica Industries says:

You know, I’m not sure Soriano’s run into enough outs on the basepaths the past few games.

    What do you think?

    • forensic says:

I agree. He’s closer, though, if you add in all the extra outs he’s given to the other team with bad plays in the OF.

    • forensic says:

By the way, I ranted on this in the game thread:

Did you notice that the Yankees are scheduled for another ESPN Sunday Night game even after tomorrow (which is their 5th game of the season)?

What the hell is up with that?

      • Kramerica Industries says:

        Wait, WTF?

That’s ridiculous. There’s no way I thought the Yankees could feature on SNB again. That’s ridiculous.

In fairness, I do know Soriano was safe on that second SB attempt, but I kinda just want him to settle down a bit out there. I know he’s scorching the earth right now with his hot spell, but these outs are doing nobody any good. What happened in the 2nd inning helped torpedo the rally. Seriously, how often do you see a pitcher allow four baserunners and zero runs in an inning?

  4. Robinson Tilapia says:

I managed to catch the mind numbing stupidity that was the end of that telecast. I never want to hear those people speak again.

At least my prediction that wasn’t really a prediction for this series is 2/3 of the way there.

    • SDB says:

      Do recap.

      • forensic says:

        Tim McCarver said stuff.

I didn’t even see the last three innings, but that about sums up the mind-numbing stupidity that was the first six inning of the telecast, and I’m guessing it fits for the end too.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

Well, I was watching in an area where I could not listen to the telecast, but judging by these reviews, I’ll consider myself lucky and move on.

          When was 2004 brought up?

          • forensic says:

I actually don’t remember hearing any 2004 references. Of course, I missed the last three innings of the broadcast so maybe he squeezed it in there.

There were certainly way too many stories about the 60′s and 70′s though, as usual.

thanks for the jorgie porn, mike. he’s my favorite. as a dorky baseball fan, and as a girl.

  6. OldYanksFan says:

More ARod porn on the ESPN site.
Some we have already heard of, but there are some wonderful quotes.

“Alex should put up or shut up.” Yankees president Randy Levine

“If I say that I have something, I have something. If I say I have emails that are damning, I have emails that are damning. If I say that Dr. Kelly was told something, I have evidence that Dr. Kelly was told something. He’ll see who has the last laugh.” Joseph Tacopina, Rodriguez’s new attorney

  7. vicki says:

i know the story has been their invigorated offense; but if they’re healthy in october the dodgers have to like the idea of only needing to win kershaw and greinkle starts, with ryu matching up favorably with any number 3, should they falter.

  8. OldYanksFan says:

    OMG

In the “I-shouldn’t-laugh-but” department, here is a GIF (h/t Was Watching) of a Catcher taking a foul tip to the cup, and as he collapses, on the batter’s backswing, the bat hits the Catcher in the head.

    Ouch!

Thanks to the Rangers hitting around Felix, Hirok now leads the AL in ERA.
