Triple-A Scranton (13-3 loss to Rochester) their season is over … they finished in fifth place in the North Division at 68-76 and did not qualify for the postseason
- 1B Brent Lillibridge: 2-4 — I wonder if they’ll clear a 40-man roster spot for him now
- 3B Ronnie Mustelier: 1-4, 2 RBI — finished his injury-filled season at .272/.319/.397 with seven homers in 374 plate appearances
- RHP Caleb Cotham: 0.2 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HB, 1/1 GB/FB — 24 of 44 pitches were strikes (55%) … that’s an unfortunate way to end the season
- RHP Matt Daley: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 0/2 GB/FB — 23 of 34 pitches were strikes (68%) … 31-year-old from Queens finished the year with a 74/10 K/BB in 53.1 innings after missing most of 2011 and all of 2012 following shoulder surgery
- RHP R.J. Baker: 3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 4/3 GB/FB — 20 of 33 pitches were strikes (61%) … because this season wasn’t bad enough, the third string catcher threw three innings out of the bullpen in the final game of the year
Double-A Trenton was rained out. This was the final game of the season, so it will not be made up. They finished in second place in the Eastern Division at 74-67 and will play Binghamton in the best-of-five first round playoff series starting Wednesday. Mike Ashmore says the postseason rotation will be RHP Bryan Mitchell, RHP Mikey O’Brien, RHP Shane Greene, LHP Nik Turley, and RHP Scottie Allen.
Low-A Charleston (1-0 win over Rome, walk-off style) last game of the season … they finished at 75-63 in the Southern Division, good for third place but not a playoff spot
- CF Jake Cave: 1-4, 1 CS — finishes the year at .282/.344/.401 with two homers, 18 steals, 40 walks (7.7%), and 110 strikeouts (21.2%)
- 1B Greg Bird: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K — caps off a great season with a walk-off single … he finished the year at .288/.428/.509 with 20 homers, 107 walks (18.7%), and 132 strikeouts (23.0%) … he also led the system in OBP and OPS (min. 300 plate appearances) while finishing third in homers behind 3B Peter O’Brien and 1B Dan Johnson
- 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 0-2, 1 K — finishes at .214/.292/.331 with eleven homers, 43 walks (8.8%), and 118 strikeouts (24.3%) after hitting .248/.322/.331 with three homers, 8.4% walks, and 18.0% strikeouts in the same league last year
- RHP Rookie Davis: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 5/5 GB/FB — 34 of 47 pitches were strikes (72%)
- RHP Derek Varnadore: 4 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 1 HB, 4/0 GB/FB — 28 of 38 pitches were strikes (74%) to finish off the one-hitter … he and Davis threw 85 total pitches in nine innings … think the other team was eager to get the season over with?
Short Season Staten Island‘s game was suspended due to rain with one out in the top of the fourth. Their season ends Wednesday, so they’ll make it up sometime between now and then (probably tomorrow). Here’s the box score.
The High-A Tampa and both Rookie GCL Yanks seasons are over.
