Yankees trade David Huff to Giants for cash considerations

As the title says, the Yankees have traded left-hander David Huff to the Giants for cash considerations, the team announced. Huff, who had a nice late-season run in a swingman role, was designated for assignment earlier this week to clear a 40-man roster spot for Masahiro Tanaka. Cash is better than nothing, which is what the team would have gotten had he cleared waivers and elected free agency.

Now to buy back Chris Stewart so he can be our starting catcher

  2. LarryM Fl says:

I wish him good luck with the Giants.

  3. Bubba says:

    Cashman FTW!

  4. CashmanNinja says:

The fact that we got anything back for him is a good thing. But I actually liked Huff. He was solid and we couldn’t have asked for anything more than what we got out of him. I hope he carves out a nice niche in San Fran.

And for all the love that Stephen Drew seems to be getting…I think I’d rather the Yankees go for Aledmys Diaz once he’s eligible to be signed. He’s only 23, seems to have above average defense, and at the very least his offense looks like it’s enough to be passable with the potential to get even better. Just a thought.

  5. Dro413 says:

Use that cash for Stephen Drew! Sign him and a couple of bullpen arms please.

  6. Iron Horse says:

Wish Huff best of luck with Giants…this is off-topic, but I just have to comment on Larry Luccino’s latest ignorant comment aimed at the Yankees. Why does this douchebag believe he has some responsibility to offer his opinion about how the Yankees are spending THEIR money. I don’t ever recall anyone in the Yankee brass feeling compelled to comment specially about some decision the sainted Red Sox have decided to make. But good old Mr. Evil Empire just has to stick his worthless two cents into anything the Yankees do.
Hey Larry, nobody in New York gives a fuck what the Red Sox are doing…heard they won the Series last year, congratulations.
When you win 40 pennants, gives us a call and we can talk mano-a-mano…maybe by then you will have moved your despicable team to a real stadium that has running water and flushing toilets…you suck! Nobody has asked you to pay Tanaka’s salary; in fact, since the Yankees have now told MLB to stuff their luxury tax, I guess you will be receiving a nice check from the Seinbrenners as part of their fine. Just think, Little Larry, you can use that money to resign Jon Lester…

    • forensic says:

Not that this has anything to do with Huff (there’s an open thread right before this one…), but what did Lucchino say, anyway?

    • phil says:

i know you will take this personal attack. I would hope you don’t since i don’t know you & have no bad feelings about you.
But please, it’s all part of selling the business of baseball. i am sure the yanks love Luccino’s remarks. It builds the box office.
it’s only baseball stop getting so upset over these comments & please stop with the cursing. let’s just enjoy a baseball blog, it should be fun.

I have never been a fan of the Red Sox but unfortunately they have recently been a better team & strangely an enjoyable cast of characters, much like the 96 Yanks were fun to watch. Hurts to say but just my opinion.

    • yankees76 says:

Man your so right! what i dont understand and if someone else does please explain. What i dont get is how the red sox players and media keep trashing the yanks for spending 400 plus million on 5 players to make there team when there are teams like seattle who spent 250 mill on 1 player i mean come on and not only that no one is realizing that even with spending that amount the yanks barely went passed the 189 mark!! so basically the yanks re-tooled our team with crazy talent and our pay role is barely more than the sox, angels, rangers etc..

  7. The Great Gonzo says:

God I hope he doesn’t go all George Kontos on us, we’ll never hear the fucking end of it.

  8. Yanks200910 says:

Looks like the Yankees just sold another huge of the shares in YES network to fox

  9. PunkPitch says:

The rumor is he left in a huff.

  10. Tanuki Tanaka (Formerly Bob Buttons) says:

New goal in life: Adopt a kid, rename him Cash Considerations, and mold him into a major leaguer. Then the headlines: Cash Considerations traded for cash considerations.

  11. nyyankfan_7 says:

Vernon Wells signed a six figure contract, was eventually cut and not one team wanted him even though he was technically playing for $0 in 2014 – not even traded for a bag of BP baseballs.

David Huff – a nobody who gets cut but still traded for cash.

Dear Vernon – if you ever needed proof that you suck, really bad – here it is.

    • nyyankfan_7 says:

      and by 6 figures I mean 6 figures…..followed by 3 more zeroes.

Sorry I’m just an accountant – I have trouble with math.

  12. W.B. Mason Williams says:

Cash considerations has been the best player on the team for the past decade.

    Epic trade.
