Bench option off the board: Bonifacio signs with Cubs

By

According to multiple reports, utility man Emilio Bonifacio has signed a minor league contract with the Cubs. Jon Heyman says he turned down big league contract offers from other teams because he felt Chicago gave him the best opportunity. There were never any reports indicating the Yankees had interest in Bonifacio, but he did make some sense for that final option bench spot. Oh well.

I feel like I’ve seen this headline before.

Like the previous thread about Drew, it makes sense if they are pursuing Diaz.

I know beggars can’t be choosers, but I don’t get any of the fascination with this guy.

    Manny Banuelos for 5th starter…

Jeff for reading the commenting guidelines…

Meh. Wouldn’t have minded him as a bench guy, but Bonifacio is hardly someone to get upset over.

Bonaficio, however, doesn’t seem to draw the same polarizing responses as Drew. Yet, oddly, the debate over Drew isn’t even if he should be on the Yankees. Both sides, for the most part, agree he’d help. It’s around price and length of contract.

Meant to be a response to kenthadley above.

Oh I bet Bonifacio would be plenty polarizing if he was discussed every single day :P

Bonfacio has a total of 4.1 WAR for his entire 7 year career and just signed a minor league contract . Drew had 3.4 WAR last year as a SS.

        There really is no comparison.

        • jjyank

          I wasn’t comparing.

It doesn’t matter he is going to compare it anyway to show of Drew. Its a small miracle he didn’t refer you to The Book of Axisa 12:23.

                Not trolling just being honest.
