GIFs: Masahiro Tanaka’s Spring Debut

By

Tanaka7split

As expected, Masahiro Tanaka made his Grapefruit League debut this afternoon, allowing a pair of bloop hits (on 0-2 fastballs) in two scoreless innings. He struck out three, including one on that nasty splitter above. Considering it was his first outing of the year, Tanaka looked pretty good. I’m not kidding when I say you could hear the camera clicks with every pitch.

Bunch more GIFs after the jump. Sorry about the quality, HD was in and out on MLB.tv for me.

He allowed two freakin’ hits? It’s like Kei Igawa all over again.

on 0-2 counts. it’s like phil hughes all over again.

      • lightSABR says:

And 0 groundouts to 3 flyouts. Yup. Hughes.

Hopefully Philthy Phil. I saw him live once, and it was a blast. It’s just more fun watching a guy ahead in the count like that.

Still not a huge fan of these big GIF posts, but I’ll take this one since I still have some of the excitement of that game going.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner says:

It’s really tough on his Apple 2E. ;)

    • pat says:

      Then don’t click on them?

      • forensic says:

When I’m on my iPad or phone, I don’t. But they still slow them down and don’t really let them finish loading pages very well.

Calm down, it was a simple, harmless statement. I didn’t say they’re stupid or a waste or Mike shouldn’t do them, just that I’m not a big fan of them.

    • Mike Axisa says:

We’re working on something so that the GIFs are still images and only animate when you mouse over them. Hopefully will be done soon.

      • forensic says:

        That’d be pretty cool. Thanks!

Any idea how that would work for portable devices that run the desktop version of the site? Would we just have to touch it to turn it on and off?

        • Mikhel says:

Or a mobile version of the blog displaying just a JPEG of every GIF and maybe (if possible) a floating button to take people to a mobile version with the animated images (or directly to the desktop version).

The hard thing would be to code the button and retain the post capability on the mobile version (I’ve seen pages with two different mobile versions, one for android other for apple or something to that regard).

I use the RSS feeds to have my daily fix of Yankee news from here and other NYY blogs but the bad thing is I can not opine (not that my opinions are very good but nonetheless I sometimes want to post something).

          Cheers!

Thank god. I too am not a gif fan.

You should use the system they use at: http://www.9gag.com

Filthy one-on-one GIF action! My favorite!

  4. NCS says:

Slightly cleaner, slowed-down look at that splitter. Nasty:

“I’m not kidding when I say you could hear the camera clicks with every pitch.”

Yea, when Michael Kay said that, I was thinking “bullshit”. Then I listened and was like “holyshit.” lol

  6. dkidd says:

that splitter is filthier than a briefcase full of porn

  7. Mountain Yankee says:

CC and Kuroda looked pretty good too. Man, CC looks pretty thin! Good for him. I’m looking forward to Tanaka’s first “real” start. Hopefully it’ll be a complete game and a no-hitter.

    • Bryan says:

I’m very nervous about CC. I understand that he will likely add velocity as ST progresses, but jeez louise…he had trouble hitting 90!

  8. TWTR says:

I can’t wait until his next outing.

  9. Jason says:

I am viewing the GIFs on a windows computer and there is no lag, the GIFs are perfectly fine. I don’t know what the fuss is about. I guess Apple still likes to screw their users not only with prices but with content too.
That being said, Tanaka had a good outing today, looking forward to seeing more from him.

  10. yankee empire says:

Cc looked bad. He could have easily been lit up. He should be 5 starter. Sign santana now. Order should be karoda, tanaka, santana, nova, and cc. With pineda and warren waiting in wings. Cc is kidding himself if he’s ok with 88. 88 means its my last year and I retire.

Man that is some nasty stuff!!
