Update: MRI negative on Brian Roberts’ back

By

10:22pm: An MRI can back negative, the Yankees announced. Roberts will be re-evaluated in a few days.

8:44pm: Via George King: Brian Roberts is not playing tonight because of a back problem. “Not sure if it’s serious,” said Brian Cashman. Roberts has a very long injury history, so anything that causes him to miss time is a big red flag. With Derek Jeter‘s quad acting up and Robertson banged up, the Yankees are woefully short on infielders at the moment.

Such a huge blow to the lineup

STEPHEN DREW IS IN GEORGE’S BAWX!

  3. Yangeddard Solarte says:

Good. Even Dean Anna is an improvement. Soley should be the permanent 2B when Teixera returns and Kelly moves over to 3rd.

Next update: season-ending surgery scheduled for Monday.

WE NEVER SHOULDA LET GO OF NUNEY AHHHHHHHHH

  6. RM says:

Serious what would it take to get Didi Gregorius or Nick Franklin? They are both stuck in the minors.

    • Slick booby with the bigg nipps says:

JR Murphy for starters. Sanchez and Baneulos as extras.

      • Brandon says:

I don’t get that. I mean, Montero and Pineda were swapped for each other (along with minor prospects) Why would it take more to get Franklin, who the Mariners have zero use for, or Gregorius, who lost to Owings?

        • RM says:

Agree, still would have to give up some quality. This middle infield situation is going to suck if something is not done about it sooner then later.

      • RM says:

Don’t mind Murphy and a few other chips (Austin, DePaula) or maybe some guys of the 40 (Phelps, Flores, Claiborne or Mitchell). Not giving away the farm.

      • RetroRob says:

Murphy, Sanchez and Banuelos are three premium prospects. They better net a heck of a lot more than Gregorius or Franklin.

        • Deathstroke Heathcott says:

Agreed, a combination of any two of them should bring back a proven MLB player. For a Didi or Nick Franklin type, it would probably take one out of those and a prospect or two from the tier right below.

  7. Jay says:

This is the reason why this the needs to get younger. I hope we don’t start trading younger player and let them prove themselves.

  8. Yangeddard Solarte says:

And now Frankie is down so we may need Roberts. They may need to DL somebody. can’t have Frankie, Jeter, Teix and Roberts hurt.

Brian Roberts sidelined with Brian Roberts

  10. Scott Sizemore says:

    *lurks*

    • lightSABR says:

158 wRC+ so far in AAA (admittedly, in only 34 PA, and with a ridiculous BABIP of .643).

See you soon, my man. See you soon.

  11. Jorge Steinbrenner says:

Really would not rather go two players short here with both Roberts and Jeter day-to-day. This day off couldn’t come at a better time.

  12. EndlessJose says:

Are we surprise that your infield is getting hurt Cashman?Roberts,Jeter, Mark Teixeira had played less than 50 games combined.Letting Reynolds and Charez was a dumb deal.

  13. Dave Guarnieri says:

Is Kendrys Morales that much better (defensively) than rolling the dice and going with Beltran and/or Soriano at 1st for a week? Supposedly Tiex to be ready by then. SUPPOSEDLY.

You can’t get by with a 23 man roster. Jeet and Roberts day to day until October 1st? Time to part ways (DFA) Roberts and for the time being go with Scott Sizemore–his knee brace seems to be holding up well.

Romine obviously needs to be recalled.
