Triple-A Scranton’s Opening Day Starter. (Presswire)

The minor league season starts tomorrow and the Opening Day rosters for the various full season affiliates are now available: Triple-A Scranton, Double-A Trenton, High-A Tampa, and Low-A Charleston. Not sure why OF Aaron Judge is listed as a first baseman with the River Dogs, but it’s probably just a mistake. As always, the rosters are subject to change. Here are some more notes on the final day of the minor league offseason:

  • The upcoming Triple-A Scranton rotation will be RHP Bruce Billings, RHP Chase Whitley, RHP Graham Stoneburner, RHP Brian Gordon, and then TBA. RHP Shane Greene is with the club and will eventually fill a rotation spot, but he is not stretched out after pitching in relief during Spring Training. [Donnie Collins]
  • Neither C Austin Romine nor C John Ryan Murphy were told how their playing time will be split, though it sounds as though Murphy will be the priority, as he should. OF Ramon Flores and 2B Jose Pirela will be everyday players and RHP Matt Daley is the closer according to manager Dave Miley. [Donnie Collins]
  • The Double-A Trenton rotation will be, in order, RHP Bryan Mitchell, LHP Jeremy Bleich, RHP Zach Nuding, RHP Joel De La Cruz, and LHP Matt Tracy. Manager Tony Franklin confirmed the top four hitters in the lineup will be OF Mason Williams, 2B Rob Refsnyder, 3B Rob Segedin, and C Gary Sanchez. [Nick Peruffo]
  • In order, the Low-A Charleston rotation will be RHP Rookie Davis, RHP Luis Severino, RHP Gio Gallegos, RHP Brady Lail, and LHP Caleb Smith. Still no word on High-A Tampa’s starter for Thursday. [Josh Norris]
  • The Yankees have released another five players, according to Matt Eddy: RHP Kenedy Agramonte, RHP Zach Arneson, RHP Adam Smith, RHP Zach Varce, and RHP Derek Varnadore. Arneson, a hard-throwing but very wild reliever, was the team’s ninth round pick in 2011 and the best prospect of the bunch.

Update: According to Collins, UTIL Addison Maruszak has been released. Between that and Eduardo Nunez being designated for assignment, I have absolutely no idea who will play shortstop for Triple-A Scranton.

  1. Jorge Steinbrenner says:

High-A’s got DePaula, Camarena, and who else? I assume Palladino’s going back to SI?

    • Adam from Bay Ridge says:

I’d imagine the remaining pitchers would entail one or more of the following:
      Cesar Vargas
      Evan Rutckyj
      Dietrich Enns
      Brett Gerritse
      Jose Campos
      Gabriel Encinas

Last I heard, Campos was going to be brought along slowly in ExST and I’m not too sure about the status with Encinas’ rehab from Tommy John surgery.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner says:

        Forgot about Enns completely.

      • nycsportzfan says:

Really looking forward to Enns and Campos outta the group mentioned. Always a sucker for the lefties and Campos was good enough to still have upside in 2013. Back to Enns, i’m really hoping he is the 2012 Enns and not the 2013 Enns.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Add ManBan, Gerritse, and Wooten, per Josh Norris.

  2. Chief Wahoo says:

So Tampa has no catchers? or a regular 3B?

  3. Travis L. says:

I know this is a minor thing, cuz he isnt a prospect per say, but wouldnt Scottie Allen be a starter for AA? He pitched a couple of games there last year and did fairly well. I’d rather have him there than Jeremy Bleich.

  4. Dick M says:

Rotations at the upper levels ain’t exactly brimming with prospects. Mitchell, maybe. Gotta get Manny in there.

I guess Pirela may be at SS and Joseph at 2B until Nunez is cleared off the waivers.

    • BronxBomber98 says:

Until he is cleared off waivers? Nunez is as good as gone. I’ll be shocked if they don’t trade him instead of someone claiming him. There’s no way he’s going to be in the organization still.

  6. DERP says:

Really hoping Ben Gamel has a nice year. Love that guy.

  7. WFAN Caller says:

    Where is Rafael De Paula?

  8. The Belafonte says:

Bold prediction: Refsnyder has a great start to the season and gets called up when Roberts inevitably crashes and burns.

    • Bryan says:

Bold move, Cotton! Let’s see how this works out.

A couple things that confuse and/or enrage me.

      1) Why are they moving so slowly (again with Campos?) He needs to pitch more often or he will never get the development he needs. I understand the fear he might get hurt. But maybe, just maybe, he is ready for a full year of work.

      2) I though Clarkin was starting at Charleston? Is he being held back in ExST?

      3) Where is ManBan?

      4) Any idea on how they plan on utilizing the infield in Charleston? They have Gosuke, Avelino, and Wade to play 2b and SS. Are they just going to two of them and have the third DH?

      • CS Yankee says:

        Heard that;
        3) Manban in ExST until its warm in PA, then AAA SP.

        Seems like;
        1) Agreed, he was a Frog (low A) in Seattle like three years ago.
        2) Doubt that the HS kid is ready for low-A
        4) Crowded MIF at low-A, crowded CIF at Tampa…something should give by June me thinks.

  9. Mark says:

Good to see Herndon didn’t opt out as he is still on the AAA roster.

  10. CS Yankee says:

Thinking Tampa will be the org with the best overall talent, or maybe Trenton.

Tampa: RDP, Camarena, Campos, Enns, Rutckj starting with Jag, Dbich, Bird and i guess Katoh.

Trenton: Mitchell and meh X4 starting, with Mason, Austin, Sanchez, and the Rob’s

    Tampa arms versus Trenton’s bats.

    • Yankee$ says:

      I like Charleston…
      Severino, Avelino, Torrens, Katoh

    • nycsportzfan says:

ManBan is also starting off in Tampa. ManBan,DePaula,Enns,Campos, is pretty exciting to follow.

Not sure if Katoh is starting yr off in Tampa though, as hes not on the roster according to the minor league links through yanks.com. But they do got Bird and O’Brien, which should be exciting, and a sleeper i’m keeping a eye on in Jake Cave.

  11. Darren says:

We may not have seen the last of Nunez. If he’s not traded and he clears waivers he could be sent to Triple A, no? Now that Mastuscak The Butcher has been released, that seems like an actual possibility. Too bad Cito Culver isn’t ready for Scranton.

  12. Darren says:

Wait, forget about the rosters, Marcus Thames is a coach for Trenton! Cool.

  13. Yankee$ says:

Is Angelini too old for AAA?

  14. Naved says:

Ramirez and Monty both in AAA bullpen at least right?

  15. Hornblower says:

Had the opportunity to see the young Yankees in Tampa last week. Austin looked fine and swing the bat well. Just some tape on his wrist to show for the injury. Refsnyder is bigger than I thought and swung the bat well.
Saw Judge doing the rookie job of picking up balls after batting practice. He is a big kid. Hope they all have a good season.

  16. nycsportzfan says:

Jordan Cotes not starting for Charleston? Is he hurt?
