The Yankees have won four straight games for the third time this season, but only once have they won five straight. That was way back in April. They’ve already clinched a winning road trip and a win tonight would give them three straight over the Athletics, the best team in all the land. That sure would be nice, wouldn’t it? Here is the Athletics lineup and here is the Yankees lineup:

  1. LF Brett Gardner
  2. SS Derek Jeter
  3. CF Jacoby Ellsbury
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. C Brian McCann
  6. DH Alfonso Soriano
  7. RF Ichiro Suzuki
  8. 2B Yangervis Solarte
  9. 3B Kelly Johnson
    RHP Hiroki Kuroda

It’s sunny and cool in the Bay Area, so the weather won’t be a problem for tonight’s game. First pitch is scheduled for a little after 10pm ET and you can watch on YES locally or MLB Network nationally, depending on where you live. Enjoy the game.

Injury Update: Brian Roberts fouled a ball off his knee last night and is dealing with some lingering soreness. Joe Girardi said he wants to sit him tonight and tomorrow leading into Monday’s off-day.

So KJ will get a couple of starts in a row, and Solarte will play his normal position. That’s good. Hope KJ can show something and Solarte’s day off will help an strong offense tonight. According to trends, we should score 8 runs!

  • vicki

teix scratched; ribcage soreness. mccann at first, skjrm catching.

    • forensic

I could’ve sworn the lineup I heard was different from what I saw before. The hits keep coming for Tex, I guess. At least it’s another built-in rest for his wrist. Guess we’ll see if he sits through till Tuesday too.

  • teddy

small sample size gardner hitting 182 with a 3 and 1 count, 227 slg. should stop swinging

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Really really not feeling Soriano as our cleanup hitter.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Really not feeling that first inning.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Kuroda, I know the umps suck, but the strikezone isn’t that big.

  • Yankee$

I really hate these late night west coast games.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Yea. Don’t get why it couldn’t be a 4:05 or 7:05 start et.

      • forensic

Because a lot of people live on the west coast too and many would periodically like night games themselves.

  • TheRealGreg

Yankees have no chance with a bad Kuroda.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

    That’s game over.
Hate say it, but I don’t have faith this lineup can make it up with Soriano as cleanup.

    • nycsportzfan

Whoa! Games not over at 2-0 brotha. I don’t care if Pat Kelly’s hitting in the lineup, its only 2-0

    • nycsportzfan

Just like that 7inn to go and were only down a run.

  • nycsportzfan

How is this bottom of the 2nd still going on? Holy Shit Kuroda, get this last freaking out.

  • TheRealGreg

I thought they had a bit of a chance if Kuroda could be good. But now, no chance at all. Kazmir is a great pitcher.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Hiroki looks awful again. Walks walks and more walks. From 0-2 to a walk and then gives up a hit to a .197 hitter.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Solarte’s going to have to carry this offense and I think he can. He finally got a day off to rest his legs. Hiroki’s going to have to keep it at 2 and he doesn’t have it tonight. No control, no rapport with JRM.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Jeter induces an error! He’s on a roll.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      They are infectious.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

oh boy. Soriano with bases loaded, no outs.

    • nycsportzfan

What do you mean no outs?

      • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

        meant 2.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Yep. As expected, lets watch the fastball in the zone, then swing at the changeup way outside.

      • nsalem

        no outs???

        • nycsportzfan

I think ALZ is drunk. Said Sori’s 2out AB was with no out, and the game was over at 2-0 in the 2nd inning, and asked why the game coulden’t start earler, like west coast people don’t deserve some 7pm games like us.lol

          ALZ, you drinking tonight?

          • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Is there any other way watch Soriano batting 4?

            • nycsportzfan

Your better off going to bed if you see Soriano batting cleanup tonight.

  • nsalem

Kazmir always did get rattled easily

    • forensic

How exactly did he get rattled there? Sounded like he was pretty clearly pitching around Ellsbury to get to Soriano.

  • nycsportzfan

Way to pile the pitches back on Kazmir baby! Lets go Yanks!

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Watches the FB right down the middle go by for strike 1, swings at strike 2 three feet off the plate, and then grounds out. At least it wasn’t a strike out but Soriano should not be clean up.

  • nycsportzfan

Nice pick at 1st by McCann!

  • brett

    no dotf tonight?

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      Petey got a homer.
      Judge got 2 hits.
      Ref got nothing.
Sanchez’s ass is getting sore on the bench.
      Done.

    • nycsportzfan

Peter O’Brien cracked another HR for Trenton.

      • nycsportzfan

Severino was brilliant tonight for Charleston.

        6inn 3hit 1er 1bb and 8k. Beast!

  • nycsportzfan

Its fun watching the Yanks tonight. They Won 4 in a row so your almost playing with house money right now. All you ask is they battle and they have.

  • nycsportzfan

I can’t wait to watch the Bernie career highlight film. I hope its good one because its pretty short for a Bernie career highlight film.

Bernies my 2nd all time fave player behind Donnie Baseball.

  • brett

nycsportsfan can you give us an update

    • nycsportzfan

      I started above.

      Severino- 6inn 3hit 1er 1bb 8k for Charleston

O’Brien smacked another HR for Trenton and had 2hits overall.

      Judge went 2-4

Looks like they had the AS game for HighA Tampas league. Cave walked in his only AB and scored a run. DBJ got one hit and Zach Wilson homered.

Kyle Roller 1-3 BB for Scranton. Batting 301BA at TripleA

  • TheRealGreg

I think Solarte’s slide has finally arrived.

    • forensic

Finally arrived? He’s been pretty bad overall for about a month now.

      • TheRealGreg

I mean on this road trip. He buoyed his average with a couple of hot streaks this month, but now he’s entering the .270s

        • forensic

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a hard time calling a couple of 2 game stretches ‘hot streaks’. Since May 15th, so the last month, he’s hitting .215/.270/.323 (not counting tonight’s 0-2).

  • yankeedjw

Solarte has turned into quite the rally killer lately.

  • nycsportzfan

Ichiro walks after starting AB with 0-2 count. Nice work.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      Maybe he teaches Soriano something?

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Well let’s waste an hour waiting for the lights to go on, when we could have played a day game.

    • forensic

Yeah, because lights could never go out during a night game on the east coast.

      • Jacoby Eddardsbury

But today’s a weekend and they could have played during the day like the Yankees always do. No reason to play this one at night.

        • forensic

Maybe they should play a day game almost every day like the Cubs do.

          • vicki

            night baseball ruined the game!

  • yankeedjw

You’re telling me they can’t play while this is worked out? It’s still plenty light out there.

  • Get Phelps Up

They should just turn the lights on the other side off.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      This isn’t lasertag.

      • Get Phelps Up

Well it’s not like there would be no lights in the ballpark at all, there’s 5 other operational light towers that would be on. Ideal conditions? No, but neither is waiting for hours to fix the lights or having to postpone the game!

  • Yanks47

This would happen in the colesium, what a dump.

  • nsalem

I think Solarte will be okay. He may not hit .300 but I think he should be able to maintain .280 BA with a .340 OBP and maintain some pop. Certainly a huge improvement over last year. He doesn’t seem to be in a freefall. He doesn’t seem to be flailing and chasing terrible pitches in the way that Soriano is and he is K rate really has not gone up. I am a fan of his but I think I am being realistic in thinking come July 1 he won’t be hitting .250 with a .300 OBP.

    • Yangervis

Solarte will be alright…still seeing pitches and having good at bats…just hitting them straight at fielders at the moment

  • forensic

Joe Torre: “You know, it’s interesting John (Sterling), you could say anything you want on the radio and no one would know any better.”

Way to describe his entire career…

    • Paisa

      Hahaha that is classic

  • yankeedjw

*yawn* Don’t think I’ll make it through this one.

  • nsalem

Any opinion on which team (if any) would a postponement until tomorrow benefit. Basically this would mean re-starting the game with the Yankees not being able to use Kazmir and the Yankees not having use of Kuroda.

    • Rolling Doughnut

Neither pitcher was especially sharp tonight but Hrok looked worse so I think the Yanks benefit.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

    Lights

  • SevenAces

John Ryan Murphy “murdered” it with that frame job.

  • forensic

Sterling: “The lights are on, I know people back east will be saying it’s still dark out though. Of course it’s still dark, it’s midnight there, but it’s only 9PM here.”

    Um, huh???

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      words of wisdom

    • Mikhel

We have sunlight on the west coast sometimes until 9:30 PM, but usually until 9:00 PM in coastal towns/cities. In the bay area you can add about 15-20 more minutes of sunlight when compared to southcali or Baja California.

  • vicki

after lowrie’s nine pitch at-bat, still a fifteen pitch inning for kuroda.

  • nycsportzfan

KJ with the double. Hes coming around.

    • Paisa

Coming around or getting a chance?

      • forensic

        Exactly.

      • nycsportzfan

I actually meant coming around to score. But he didn’t.

  • Winter

    Shitcrackers.

    • forensic

      Those don’t sound very appetizing.

  • Rolling Doughnut

Infield in GB Jeter at bat so he’s going on contact? Dumb.

  • Rolling Doughnut

    Jesus let it go foul.

  • nycsportzfan

    WTF Murphy!

  • forensic

So, what’s caught more pitches tonight: Murphy’s glove or the backstop?

  • Michahiro Pinaka

Did someone put a trap door in Murphy’s glove?

  • Mikhel

The leftie Aceves sucks porongas… an inning, a run. PORONGAS I SSAAAAIIIDD!

    :’(

I kept refreshing my browser to read through the gamethread cause I thought the cache got stuck when there were only 84 comments.

      • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

I think we all gave up.

        • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

I called it at 10:42 and hung out a bit longer. With Soriano as the #4 hitter there was no chance that this team could string together enough hits to win.

    • Chip Rodriguez

Late night west coast games suck.

I tried to stay up, but was starting to feel really sleepy by around 1 and finally gave up.

The extra 40 minute delay didn’t help.
