Game 76: Bounce Back

By

(Abelimages/Getty)

The Yankees have lost each of their last three games — all to division rivals who are direct competitors for a postseason berth — and were a Zach Britton meltdown away from losing four straight. They were outscored 22-4 in the three games even though Masahiro Tanaka started one of them. That’s kinda disheartening.

Thankfully, the Yankees have a chance to move and on get back in the win column tonight. The day in, day out aspect of baseball is both the best and worst thing about it. They can turn the page after last night’s ugly loss and beat a Blue Jays team they beat three times just last week. Scoring some runs would be a good start. This offense has been rather stinky of late. Here is the Blue Jays lineup and here is the Yankees lineup:

  1. LF Brett Gardner
  2. SS Derek Jeter
  3. CF Jacoby Ellsbury
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. RF Alfonso Soriano
  6. DH Carlos Beltran
  7. C Brian McCann
  8. 2B Brian Roberts
  9. 3B Yangervis Solarte
    RHP David Phelps

It is raining in Toronto and it will continue all night, so the Rogers Centre roof will be closed. Boo. Outside baseball is always better. Tonight’s game is scheduled to begin a little after 7pm ET. You can watch on My9. Try to enjoy.

Injury Updates: Carlos Beltran (elbow) will take a break from his throwing program for a few days because of “tightness.” He doesn’t feel it while hitting, so he will continue to serve as the DH. Returning to the outfield looks even less likely now.

Just a couple days ago, looked as if the Yanks were grooving. This is a pretty important game. Win this and were within 1.5 games of 1st. So the past 3 games can quickly be forgotten with a W tonight.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Once again they have to turn to BGDP to give us a big win. I would platoon McCann and play Frankie against LHP. I’m sick of watching McCann hit .200 , surely Frankie could do better.

    • MB923

McCann is hitting .281 against LHP this year (Career .295 for Cervelli which obviously is better than .281, but my point is, McCann, somehow, is doing well against LHP and can’t do lick against RHP). I used Cervelli’s career stats because his PA for the past 3 years are a very SSS

    • Preston

Hey Eddard, stick with a name. Or have you gone so far off the deep end you can’t remember your name?

  • MB923

Wild prediction- The Yankees score 4 runs in the first inning, matching their run total from the last 3 games.

    • MB923

      Oh well.

  • The Other Matt

    “Try to enjoy.”

    – Michael Axisa

    Well put, and enough said.

  • Paisa

    LFG

  • forensic

Reyes might get hurt less often if he stopped trying out for the Rockettes.

  • The Other Matt

I’ll take a baserunner anyway we can get it at this point. Good job Jeter.

  • forensic

    Thanks for that, Reyes.

  • forensic

Well, that was poor timing for going through his quote about getting better individually.

  • forensic

    Nice play, Tex!

  • Max

Just the last example in the endless futility with RISP…

    • vicki

one can’t really say they’re choking with risp specifically. team batting average .253. team batting average with men in scoring .254.

      their futility is perpetual.

      • Preston

        People don’t like numbers.

      • Max

        Amen to that :-)

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

BGDP looks sharp again. He’s already shut down the #1 and #2 offense in baseball back to back belly to belly.

    • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Huh? Was Phelps actually in this game? I just got home.

  • RetroRob

So when Melky, Bautista, Encarnacion and Lind are all batting back-to-back in the line-up, is that the most any team has ever had of active steroid users? In a row, not on a team?

    • forensic

I guess we’ll ignore the fact that only one of the four has actually been suspended for anything?

  • RetroRob

Did anyone actually touch the ball?

    • trr

      I thought the same.
Doubtful the lumbering McCann would’ve scored though

      • RetroRob

It didn’t make any difference unless the LFer picked the ball up and somehow tossed it away on the relay. It just appeared on the replay that no hand touched the ball.

  • Max

Here we go again…. Stranding one runner after another… Unreal…

  • RetroRob

Yes. It’s my game so it’s my rules. : -)

    • RetroRob

Reply fail. Meant as a reply to forensic above.

    • forensic

      lol, fair enough.

  • forensic

Hooray for blind platooning. Let’s keep Soriano and Solarte playing despite the fact that Ichiro and KJ are as good, or better, against lefties as they are against righties.

    • vicki

must say again, “the binder” and joe’s reputation as a stat wonk are ridiculous.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

That was a monster shot foul.

  • forensic

It’s always impressive seeing guys whose BA is higher than their OBP.

  • forensic

I’m sure it’s totally confirmation bias, but it sure does seem like the team plays worse in series where Flaherty is calling the games.

It’s like they hate having him around as much as we do.

    • RetroRob

It’s funny. On Twitter, he’s actually engaging, tweets with fans, and seems like a generally good guy. He’s just too flat as an announcer. I keep hoping he’ll decide to become a manager.

  • WhittakerWalt

John and Suzyn REALLY don’t like stats. Well technically they don’t like some stats. They’re perfectly willing to cite simple stats like BA, ERA and Wins.
Suzyn also referred to Mark Buerhle as a Cy a Young winner, which must be news to him.

  • WhittakerWalt

How’s that “torrid” hitting for Jeter going?

    • RetroRob

Like the rest of the team.

    • Max

      Melting maybe?

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

First misstep for BGDP. He hit a .194 hitter and put him on base. Unacceptable.

  • RetroRob

Hitting the worst hitter in the lineup is not a good pitching move.

  • forensic

    LOL!

    Nice job, Reyes.

  • Mike HC

Regarding Pineda, now they are calling it a problem with his shoulder? Or is the shoulder problem new? Or in addition to the “back” problem? Or do the Yanks just lie through their teeth when it comes to injury and you can’t believe any report they put out? Maybe ARod was actually on to something.

    • RetroRob

It was reported as a back issue, but then in the media they started calling it a shoulder issue. I think it’s because while the muscle that is causing the issue is in the back, it is attached to the shoulder. I know, it doesn’t make much sense.

      • Mike HC

So it is the same inflammation as the original injury? Which is alternatively called a “back” or “shoulder” depending on the day of the week? Got it … I think.

        • Good

Yes, it is the same inflammation as the original injury in the back, errr, shoulder, errr back, errr…

          • Mike HC

            haha … exactly

    • forensic

      Yes.

Seriously though, it’s still the same upper back thing which some believe is connected to the shoulder and others don’t.

He just seems to be the slowest healer in the history of the world, which is a bad combination when you put it together with the usually extremely conservative Yankees approach to injury rehabs.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

The Yankees officially announced it as a “right shoulder injury” in the press release when they put him on the DL.

      • Mike HC

        Thanks for the official word.

  • BigBlueAL

I cant watch the Yankees hit. I flip back and forth and every time I go back to the Yankee game they are on the field and its a new inning. Blink, sneeze or flip to another channel for 2 mins and you miss the Yankees hitting.

  • Not an ace

How late did Wells stay on the team last year? Soriano hasn’t even had a good month like he did. He needs to be DFA’D immediately.

    • Mike HC

Randy Levine was the one to make the trade, so maybe they can only cut him when Randy Levine gives the go ahead as well.

    • forensic

Wells was on the team all season. He wasn’t released until January.

I don’t expect anything different regarding Soriano, except that they won’t have to release him in January.

  • Mike HC

Trivia question — Carlos Delgado and Joe Carter? Jose Bautista?

  • Not an ace

Is it a rule that the Yankees need a garbage right handed outfielder every year? Jones 2012, Wells 2013, Alfonso 2014.

  • Bad

This team is horrible. There ain’t nobody worth watching coming up to the plate.

    • Good

      For once, we agree.

    • Kenny

I’m amazed they still get respectable crowds at the Stadium.

  • RetroRob

Time wise, two innings of Yankee batters “hitting” today takes about the same amount of time as one Jason Giambi AB used to take. I might be exaggerating.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

I went to get my dinner off the stove during the inning break and when I came back Buerhle was already walking off the field. This offense is going to set records in futility.

  • Kenny

    Oh-oh. Trouble beginning.

  • forensic

Yikes, I guess they didn’t learn from the demolished foul homerun he hit his 1st AB.

Meanwhile, Dioner Navarro, bat flip and stare at it for awhile? Really???

  • Good

I didn’t think Phelps had a 93 mph fastball in him.

    • RetroRob

      Returning to my self.

He should have stuck with the fastball.

  • Mike HC

Navarro reminds me that the Yanks seem to perpetually have blocked catcher prospects that we never give a chance to.

    • RetroRob

I for one do not miss the potential Navarro Yankee years.

      • Mike HC

        True. I for two?

  • nycsportzfan

Why do our pitchers always give up HRs with dudes all over the bases? Ever heard of a Solo shot? Jesus christ! Fucking 3 run shot to a scrub hitter like Navarro. This shit really sucks.

  • RetroRob

Yeah, really. Even Reggie wouldn’t bat flip like that and he was actually good HR hitter, unlike Navarro who is a scrub hitter.

  • WhittakerWalt

    Dare I say it?

  • vicki

this is starting to hurt my feelings.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

And that’s the ballgame. That guy has given Phelps fits. He almost hit one out last at bat.

  • Bad

3-0 game over. It’s still early right guys? Ass crackers

    • nycsportzfan

It is still early idiot. Fans don’t usually give up being down 3runs, unless your like 9yrs old and just started watching baseball. Then maybe you would think 3runs is impossible to come back from.

I fucking hate fans like you.

      • Elan

There’s nothing wrong with Bad – the only problem is the Yankees, who just don’t know how to hit in clutch situations or score runs. The Yankees have done nothing to warrant someone not saying “Game Over” after they go down by three. This team is pathetic compared to the gutsy, gritty Yankee teams of the past.

      • WhittakerWalt

3 runs for this team is nearly impossible, though. Sadly.

      • Troll

        Go back to school.

      • Bad

And I hate you cock sucker open your eyes mother fucker!

        • nycsportzfan

I would never want someone like you to like me anyways. I don’t care if this team hasen’t been hitting. They’ve come back from 3 runs down plenty of times as have many other crappy teams in baseball. Win or lose, its a joke to give up on your team because they are down by 3 in the 4th.

    • nycsportzfan

And this is why you don’t give up down 3-0 dude.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

This team only scores runs when Teixera hits a solo HR. Unless he hits 4 in this game that’s the ballgame. It’s all over, folks.

  • stuart a

there fat shitty catcher has been way better then our fat shitty catcher and way way cheaper.

offense on fire again.. 27th best offense in baseball….

  • Mike HC

Not giving up on this game yet. Gave up on last nights game real quick, gotta believe they have some fight in them tonight.

  • nycsportzfan

Every single team has alot of flaws. Yeah they have been struggling, but there right in it. MIKE KAY

    BINGO!

  • forensic

    “It’s very early”

Huh??? They’re just about halfway through the season. That’s not even close to ‘very early’.

    • nycsportzfan

I think he meant alot of time let to still get to the postseason. Down 1game in the WC standings coming into this one, with half the season, does kinda make it early.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Solarte’s the only one doing anything. McCann does nothing, absolutely nothing. Can we play Frankie more? Can we fire Klong? Cashman is doing nothing, just like Brian McCann.

    • WhittakerWalt

“Solarte’s the only one doing anything.” Yes, that bloop single totally makes up for the two RISP he stranded earlier.

    • WhittakerWalt

The next time you say something positive about Solarte you should get banned.

  • Max

The pressure this incredibly bad lineup put on the pitchers day in and day out is astounding.
How is possible that with this kind of offensive production Long is not unemployed?

    • Elan

I can’t stand Kevin Long. He turns every hitter into HR-or-nothing hitters. There is no clutch, situational, or timely hitting on Kevin Long’s Yankees – they just swing for the fences.

    • No 2013 again

How’s Cashman employed? He’s the one who assembled this sorry ass team

    • Joe C

Because Hal wants to prove that he’s not like his dad. That’s why. But you know what sometimes you have to make a move to shake things up. But Hal Doesn’t do it and its frustrating. The last coach they fired was DAve Eiland and that was because Eiland had off the field issues that the Yankees had felt were bad for thier image.

  • RetroRob

I think the baseball gods are punishing Yankee fans for their arrogance of the “too many HRs” chant a couple years back. We have been sent to hell.

    • BigBlueAL

1000% agree. I brought up recently we should all apologize to the 2012 Yankees for complaining about their offense (2nd in runs scored, 1st in HR) and there were still people who complained about that offense not being very good because they werent “clutch” and got exposed in the postseason.

    • JGYank

Yep. Had great position players for a while. The offense was almost never a problem for years if you look at how each one performed overall. This team simply doesn’t have the same offense and are also bad on defense to compound the problem. Less OBP and power and they now have to rely on baserunning. Offense is down across the league, but that’s certainly not the only reason for the drop in runs scored.

    • Joe C

The complaint was not that they hit too many homeruns. The complaint was they tried to hit homeruns when a sacfly would surfices. There is a differance.

FYI this offensive malaise actually started in 2012 right after the All Star Break and hasn’t showed signs of ending anytime soon.

That team was awful with runners in scoring position and there were calls for long’s head back then.

What people seem to forget is the fact that runs were down from the Year before in 2012. They may have hit more homeruns but they actually scored fewer runs. About 54 runs less to be exact. That’s not sigh of a good team.

But for some reason theyse hitters seem to think that the only way to score is to hit for the fences. That’s not true.

      • vicki

2012 yankees had third best wrc+, third best woba, fifth best ops with risp in all of baseball.

second half of 2012 yankees had second best wrc+, third best woba, and third best ops in all of baseball. second half of 2012 the yankees scored 392 runs, good for second best in all of baseball.

stat pages are free. use them.

  • Dro413

    McCann sucks! Play Cervelli!!!

  • Joe C

I’ll be honest, I’m on the verge of giving up on this season. Because this team is bad. In fact this team would have to improve to be bad. I think that this ball club is going to have to be broken up. I think that we need to go a youth movement. I don’t believe that retooling is going to work. I just don’t believe that it is going to work because bringing in old guys to plug holese isn’t going to work. We need to improve the farm system. TO that end, I would trade guys. I’d even trade Derek if i thought i could get something for him. In fact, if I were the general manager I ask him where he wants to play and tell him that we going to trade him because we think he deserves on more shot at the brass ring but it doesn’t look like he can get it here. That’s what they did with Elston Howard when they traded him to Boston.

  • forensic

    Buster got busted up.

    ZING!

  • DF

Flaherty’s reasoning is so bad arguing against this home plate rule that I think he must have been hit at the plate one too many times.

  • forensic

I still hate that home plate collision rule.

  • Slap-Ass

Phelps in trouble again. Another tater coming soon.

  • Slap-Ass

Fucking Jeter, Gardner could’ve caught that shit. This team is running on all 4 cylinders now.

  • nycsportzfan

    WTF Derek! Why?

  • forensic

It’s ok, Jeter. I’m sure you’ll make up for it offensively.

    • JGYank

      Plot twist.

      • forensic

lol, really, of all times for him to fluke his way into a pop fly homerun…

  • BigBlueAL

I havent been this embarrassed as a Yankee fan since being 10 years old watching the 1990 Yankees lol.

  • YesWeMcCann

On the upside, Jeter’s feelings aren’t hurt by hitting deeper in the lineup.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

    What the…

  • Axis of Mike

The unwatchability of this team just went to turbo levels. Honestly, I would rather watch Gilligan’s Island reruns. Evening over early. Damn this team.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Girardi should get himself tossed from this shit and then tear into these guys after the game. George would have done something. This new regime does nothing.

  • RetroRob

Derek, Derek, Derek. You may not have had had great range, but you always made the standard plays, never being confused out there.

  • Elan

As others have mentioned above, this team is awful, just plain awful. They’re 23rd in the MLB in Runs Allowed with 335, and are 20th in the MLB in Runs Scored with 300. Not a single regular is hitting over .300 (Brett Gardner leads the regulars at .285), and they’re 15th in the MLB with a .253 team average (along with 16th in the MLB with a .318 OBP and 19th in the MLB with a .377 SLG). The Yankees have a 4.03 team ERA, good for 21st in baseball (imagine how bad that would be without Tanaka). This, simply, is just not a good team.

    • nycsportzfan

And like Mike Kay said, every single team except maybe the A’s and Giants(giants just got shutout by a kid making 1st start) have major issues. Its not just the Yankees.

    • JGYank

Yeah they’ve been below average across the board for the most part. Part of that has been the injuries to the rotation and Beltran, Soriano and McCann underperforming so it might get a little better but hard to see any significant improvement without adding pieces at the deadline.

      • nycsportzfan

I think just having Beltran back for a period of time will help tremendously. Like I said, just last wk, the Yanks swept Toronto at home and Seattle on the Road. Slumps happen, and i’m sure this won’t be the last one.

All that matters is getting into the postseason and they have a solid chance at that. And yeah, they also have a great chance of making a trade happen with the chips they have. Also, getting CC back and possibly Pineda will also help.

        • JGYank

There’s no such thing as a great chance of making a trade when there’s like 4 or 5 sellers and 20 buyers. That’s probably accurate sadly.

Getting CC and Pineda back will help but how much? CC has been unreliable and Pineda seems to have a fragile shoulder. Beltran McCann and Sori might turn around but will they be enough to make up for the infield?

          • nycsportzfan

How much do they need to help? Without em were 1game outta the WC spot and 2.5 behind the bluejays.

            • JGYank

We’ve been outscored. Their record isn’t what it should be.

              • Old Man Time

                And yet, there they are.

  • forensic

Can they DFA Jeter in the middle of this game?

    /frustrationboilingover

  • Slap-Ass

This team could be 10 games out of 1st in a month and we’ll still trade the farm for help.

  • CashmanNinja

Jeter is playing like his brain has already retired.

  • Rolling Doughnut

This is a just very bad joke now.

  • nycsportzfan

Ok, now this game is over. Not only is this game now over, it was done in a surreal way. Derek must be getting paid by the Bluejays for this one(joking)

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

This is the worst team in baseball. Turn this shit off, everybody.

    • nycsportzfan

Imagine if people listened to you?

  • YesWeMcCann

    lol

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

That was an “I’m embarrassed” home run

  • Dale Mohorcic

In the immortal words of Marv Albert: That–was ugly.

  • Mike HC

A Jeter homer was worth watching this game … I think.

  • The Other Matt

What can you do? It’s Derek Jeter.

  • Hans Moleman

    Bizarro World

  • forensic

So, according to Flaherty, picking up a baseball off the ground is ‘athletic’.

    • Axis of Mike

Well, after Jeter’s play that was pretty athletic.

  • Wow

How embarrassing. It would actually be very refreshing for this team to sell, change the FO and change philosophies. You can seriously tell there’s an archaic way of running things in the FO. This is just sad to watch for such a great franchise.

    But hey, hard hit balls!

  • The Other Matt

Lol. Wow. Still doesn’t take away the fact he just cost the Yankees about 3 runs.

  • forensic

I can’t even get excited about that homerun right now.

  • Axis of Mike

Look for Jeter to play less at SS and Soriano to warm the bench soon. Phelps and Nuno I hope have encore careers.

  • JGYank

    Jeter just teased us there.

  • forensic

It’s pitiful that all those runs are earned on Phelps. I can’t believe they actually scored that first Jeter play as a fielder’s choice with no error. Those scoring decisions make no sense at all.

  • RkyMtnYank

Hopefully they all get a little pissed off now, playing with some emotion and attitude couldn’t hurt anything at this point.

    • Slap-Ass

      Still won’t work.

    • Mikhel

It wont happen, remember that JoeG is adept to throwing the towel and his teams do the same. Around the same time last year their descent was in full motion… and right now they look lifeless.

I thought he would argue Teix grounder… but decided not to.

      • RkyMtnYank

Well, it is a whole new ballgame here in the 7th now though!

  • Dro413

Yankees are horrible to watch right now.

  • nycsportzfan

Win or lose, the Yanks are gonna be at worst 3.5 outta 1st tomorrow and 2 outta the WC. I know the Orioles and Rangers have no issues at all with there teams, but i’d still have to say the team is in pretty good position to make a run at the postseason.lol

Jesus. Struggles happen throughout a yr. Its why the Yanks are still right in the hunt for the postseason. Every team has issues! Just a few days ago, everyone was raving about the Yanks.

    • Mikhel

      Rangers have no issues? OK

      • forensic

He was being sarcastic. He’s posted the same thing four or five times in the last 5 minutes.

        • nycsportzfan

          Thats right.

      • nycsportzfan

Thank you. You made my point.

  • Dro413

This is the same pitiful offense we saw last year. If Yankees don’t get their shit together they’ll probably miss the playoffs again.

  • Mike HC

Well, it looks like those three runs weren’t insurmountable after all.

  • nycsportzfan

Fuck Yeah BROB! This is why you don’t give up on ur team down 3-0 in the 4th inning. Of course they gave up 3 since, but to say the games over 3-0 in the 4th is childish.

  • fred robbins

I think it would be hard to have respect for any major league player who did not exercise his option to refuse a trade to this team unless there was an in writing promise to blow this shit up and fire cashman and anyone who helped or advised him on assembling this mess.

    • Old Man Time

      …wanking motion…

  • forensic

Somehow, McCann is actually hitting lefties fine. He just hasn’t shown up against righties at all.

  • Charles R.

Off-topic but wow, I didn’t realize Adrian Beltre has had such a good career thus far. Got his 2500th hit today (age-35 season). Probably a lock to get 3000 hits in 3 years time. Underrated.

  • forensic

What’s with Roberts and Jeter always homering so close to each other?

  • nycsportzfan

Were a base hit away from a 2run deficit. Without Jeters brain farts on Defense, were a base hit away from the lead.

  • Mikhel

Toronto’s TV station showed Rasmus telling the hitting coach what pitches Phelps was going to throw, from what the announcers said it was the exact set of pitches he said… either Phelps is telegraphing pitches (unlikely if they knew the sucesion of pitches), McCann is too obvious asking pitches (more likely), they heard with the microphones whem when they meet in the mound and agreed on a set of pitches without the C asking a pitch or asking other thibgs to try and deceive them (remember they have been accused of stealing signs) or… what?

Did somebody watched the same thing in YES or was it only aired on Sportsnet Toronto?

    • forensic

The Man in White is working overtime this series.

Remind me if Joe West appears in a series soon to link to the Mets game. He just pulled a really hilarious thing that is trending on the Twitterboxes.

  • nycsportzfan

Now the Go ahead runs at the plate.

  • nycsportzfan

Come on Tex, lets knot this up!

  • nycsportzfan

Just like that, the Tying runs up to the plate.

  • Mike HC

YES!!! And I think we knocked Encarnacion out for a few weeks. Concussion?

    • Mike HC

      Or not.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

THE GAME IS TIED AND ENCARNACION IS DOWN!

  • forensic

Wow, this is crazy. Did they need the terribleness earlier to wake them up.

I bet Jeter did it on purpose…

    • vicki

the boner that turned the season around, i’m sure.

  • trr

Gee, I hope Tex didn’t hurt his arm!

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

It’s just like Jimmy V said, never give up never give up and that’s what I live by.

  • CashmanNinja

Reyes is going to get one of his teammates killed eventually…

  • Charles R.

    THIS TEAM THOUGH. GAAAAH!

  • nycsportzfan

    FUCK YEAH!!! TIE GAME MOFO’S!!!

  • roberto kelly johnsong

hmm i guess there arent the worst team ever…

  • nycsportzfan

Win this game we still got chance to take the series in Toronto after sweeping em last wk. What a terrible team.(sarcastic)

  • nycsportzfan

Now Go Ahead runs in scoring positon and the team has really raked today. So glad that inn’s 6-9 count the same as the first 5.

Lets give these jays a devastating loss!!!!!!

  • BigBlueAL

    Nice turn of events :-)

  • CashmanNinja

They’re letting him stay in the game???? I understand he’s 1 of their best hitters…but head injuries are becoming an extremely scrutinized injury that you don’t mess around with. Just because he may be “ok” right now doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a concussion or anything. That looked like whiplash and you don’t risk his health even if he obviously wants to stay in.

  • Dro413

The Yankees just read my comment!

  • No 2013 again

Beltran, useless POS. Imagine him in 2 years! What a great job by Cashman!

  • Sori-oh-no

Soriano is so bad he actually gets me more angry when he finally does get a base hit. I feel like that single just bought him another month of striking out in half his at-bats.
Good to see this team showing some fight today though.

    • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

      ^

  • RkyMtnYank

I think Jeter actually got mad and it scared everyone so there was nothing left to do but start hitting!

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Hit another 3 run HR, Carlos and let’s set up the pen for once.

  • YesWeMcCann

I accidentally left Beltran on my fantasy roster in the place of Trout. Here’s where it pays off for me.

  • Mike HC

Betances showing off his D here too.

  • RkyMtnYank

    Nice range by Tex.

  • JGYank

I leave and they tie the game. Unbelievable. Did Brian Roberts and Jeter homer in the same game? What?

    • TC

      TOO MANY HOMERUNS!!!!!!!

  • vicki

no k’s? no matter. good to see you again, dellin.

    • JGYank

      There’s the K.

      • vicki

  • vicki

little tired of the colby rasmus highlight reel.

  • JGYank

This team is extremely inconsistent. It’s really frustrating. They sweep the Jays then lose 3 straight, go down 6-0 and comeback. Really hard to judge their real talent level.

    • nycsportzfan

I think its that way with alot of teams. Its why almost everyone is still in the WC race.

    • Mike HC

That is their real talent level. Mediocre.

  • forensic

Ok, I’m getting pretty tired of Navarro now.

  • iblamejay-z

Navaro tripple crown all the sudden

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

They just can’t get that fat catcher out. Now they’re going to lose. Delin doesn’t have his strike out stuff.

  • nycsportzfan

Is Wilmer Romero a big deal prospect?

  • nycsportzfan

Don’t take him out. Hes got the best chance of Striking the next guy out. Win or Lose with the big guy.

  • nycsportzfan

Come on Betances. You can get outta this 1st and 3rd situation! Bring the goods!

  • Mike HC

Encarnacion really doesn’t look that good. Don’t think he should still be in the game/

  • Mike HC

Now give him the 99 mph high heat and move on to the next guy

    • Mike HC

Only 97. If he got it up to 99, he wouldn’t have been able to foul it off, ha

  • iblamejay-z

gotta love the Blue Jays at home…when shitty hitters some how now to hold up on a devastating breaking ball that most mlb players would have swung at

  • forensic

    lol, Melky.

  • nycsportzfan

Throw the Heat Big D! There ya go! Full count. This dudes got no chance assuming Betances is around the zone.

  • JGYank

    Betances on the tightrope…

  • TC

Is this a sneaky way of stretching him out to replace Nuno? That’s a big pitch count.

  • Mike HC

Kawassaki has blop single written all over him. Let’s hope not though

  • Mike HC

Betances!!! Don’t trade this man for Price!! ha

    • forensic

There are warning signs with Price, but if you wouldn’t trade a reliever for a top half of the rotation starter, then you’re just not being objective in the least.

Not that it matters since the Rays would never be dumb enough to trade Price for a reliever anyway.

      • Mike HC

I’m actually not sure if I was being serious or sarcastic myself.

        • forensic

heh, ok, at least we got that cleared up.

  • iblamejay-z

Michael K. “they are really turning his fastball around” Flatherty “most mlb players wouldn’t have been able to hold up on that breaking ball” hmmmmmmm, what could it be??????????????

  • forensic

    Whew…

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

damn. Betances loads em up, cuts them down.

    • forensic

He really is learning from Robertson out in the bullpen.

  • nycsportzfan

Gardy with the leadoff knock! Fuck Yeah Baby! Love this team!

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Jete should bunt him over here and 3-4-5 hitters will drive him in.

    • WhittakerWalt

That’s not what our 3-4-5 hitters do.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

I just don’t know how you can keep this kid out of the All Star game. He’s an All Star, period. And now they just need to scrape across one run to win.

    • nycsportzfan

He’s a shoe in at this point.

  • nycsportzfan

    BIG D BABY!

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

Janssen looks like he has a massive shit he is trying to hold in.

  • Tom

    Good time to swipe 3rd.

  • nycsportzfan

If Orioles lose and we win, were like right there again.

  • WhittakerWalt

    Weak sauce.

  • Farewell Mo

Horrible strategy by Girardi there. You have to let Gardner do a straight steal of 2nd then give yourself 3 chances to drive him in. You have a base stealer and a catcher who can’t throw for shit.

  • http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/ ALZ

    That was awful.

  • forensic

Well, that was a very Yankeeish way to lose the game.

  • Mr. FB

    Ballgame.

  • Rolling Doughnut

Can’t make this stuff up. Jaysus.

  • WhittakerWalt

    Solarte’s defense is a joke.

    • forensic

      Yes.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Reyes leadoff double. Why David Robertson was not brought into the ballgame is beyond me. This is over now. Robertson should have been in.

  • Jacoby Eddardsbury

Someone should be fired. Either Klong or Kelleher, the IF instructor. This team is an abomination.

  • nycsportzfan

That one really stung. Jeters brain farts cost us pretty dearly when said and done.

  • iblamejay-z

at least it was fast… i knew they would walk off, at least we were spared bases loaded situations with no scoring and a taxed bullpen in 16 innings

  • Farewell Mo

Most AAA teams have better infield defense compared to the Yankees.

  • Mike HC

That was quick and painless at least

    • Winter

      Quick, yes. Painless, no.

    • forensic

My fantasy team appreciates the win for Janssen, but they would’ve preferred if it had gone one more batter for Lind to get another hit and RBI. Oh well…

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    I screamed.

  • nycsportzfan

Wow, that was quick. Warren is starting to shows signs of League catching up with him. Whitley getting destroyed sucks as well.

Still in it, but this ones tough to stomach.

    • WhittakerWalt

This is why I think it’s silly to put Warren in the starting rotation. He stunk as a starter, relieving is the only shot he has to contribute in any way. And even that has been suspect lately.

  • RetroRob

Well that was a sucky way to lose a beautiful come back.

They scored more than one run, so that’s a plus. Hopefully they can get out of Toronto with one win tomorrow.

  • Mike HC

Roberts definitely alligator armed it, but I honestly don’t blame him.

  • Slap-Ass

This team is shit right now.

  • stuart a

parade going on they scored 6 runs.. could have had more if they could hit with RISP.

jeter should have had 2 errors got charged with none..

    still a loss…our RF offensively are g-d awful…

jeter get his slugging % up to what 350….bat him 8th….

    • WhittakerWalt

      parade…

  • Ethan

I was at the game today too. Man this team is so fucking unwatchable right now. Seriously. I’ve been to 7 Yankees games and they’ve won 1. I might stop going to games.

    • ropeadope

Please don’t go to tomorrow’s game. Please!

      • Ethan

I had been planning on it but honestly I don’t think i’m going to anymore. I’m fed up with watching this team at the moment. Fortunately the world cup is a nice distraction.

        • ropeadope

Thank you Ethan, much appreciated. I’m sure I speak for most of RAB in wishing you a pleasant day of World Cup viewing.

  • 86

86 games left for the shit show to be over!
