Sabathia reports “no issues” following 2-inning simulated game in Tampa

By

CC Sabathia reported “no issues” with his degenerative right knee following a two-inning, 34-pitch simulated game in Tampa earlier today, according to George King. Sabathia is tentatively scheduled to start a minor league rehab game in the rookie level Gulf Coast League on Saturday, but will likely throw a bullpen session or another simulated game in the coming days to make his arm strength is where it needs to be first.

Sabathia, 33, has been out since early-May with the knee issue. He received a stem cell treatment a few weeks ago and is not expected to return to the rotation until sometime next month, probably after the All-Star break. Sabathia had a 5.28 ERA (4.74 FIP) in 46 innings before getting hurt. The rotation has held up fine these last few weeks, but Vidal Nuno is really starting to get exposed and the Yankees need another starter. Nuno has set the bar nice and low. It won’t take much for Sabathia to be an upgrade.

Can’t wait. Super tired of watching Nuno out there.

FotD™: other than length (heh), CC won’t be that big an upgrade over Nuno

That’s fine, the worst part of bad starts for most pitchers is the double penalty. You lose that game and are handicapped for the next by killing your bullpen. Sabathia usually has the courtesy to clean up his own messes.

I think most forgot how awful CC was this year. 88mph fastball is a huge “issue”

Still better than Nuno, and his peripherals support that.

I’m not expecting great things, but he’ll be an improvement, and Nuno can go back to being a depth piece.

CC had quite a few starts he was really good untill the 5th/6th inning. Girardi always would let him go longer even if signs started showing up that he may be losing it. I think Joe will be alot smarter with CC going forward.

And he had really good peripherals. I think he will eventually be pretty good if he can avoid the DL again and again.

Forget Montero let’s get Tataba back.

I am in agreement with this. DFA Soriano and pick up Tabata and his contract.

Pirates have outrighted Jose Tabata to AAA.
Why not make a deal on the cheap for him if the Pirates will eat some of his contract?
He’s a righty bat with speed and d, who might be juiced to come back to Yanks.
    Can’t be worse than Soriano,
Can use Almonte as lefty platoon with him too.
Think he’s still young too. Maybe 25.

CC needs to look at Bartolo Colon who is doing quite well in his old age.

CC needs to learn some new tricks
