The Yankees rallied to win yesterday afternoon’s game, and tonight they have a chance to end the six-game road trip with a series win over the last place Red Sox. After dropping two of three to the last place Rangers, taking two of three from Boston would be much appreciated. Here is the Red Sox lineup and here is the Yankees lineup:

  1. LF Brett Gardner
  2. SS Derek Jeter
  3. CF Jacoby Ellsbury
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. DH Carlos Beltran
  6. C Brian McCann
  7. 3B Chase Headley
  8. 2B Stephen Drew
  9. RF Martin Prado
    RHP David Phelps

It’s cloudy and really humid in Boston, but there is no rain in the forecast. Tonight’s game will begin just after 8pm ET and you can watch on ESPN. Enjoy.

    QUESTION
The Jays just released a previous first or second rounder in Tyler Gonzales… Apparently the kid throws mid to upper 90s but has control issues.. Only 21 though… You think the Yanks go after him?

    • forensic

Did this need to be posted in two consecutive threads?

    • Go Win

A 21 yr old giving away more than a walk per IP and allowing opposing hitter to bat .300 does not seem very encouraging. But on the other side targeting power pitchers whith control problems in the lower minors has been a Yankee stretegy lately. Hey, why would you invest in having a couple of GCL teams if it were not for giving some of these guys a try . . . Although in all likelyhood they will fail.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

There’s a lot of guys like that out there. I guess it’s possible.

Go Win below/above is correct, though.

  • Carlos Beddardtran

When you talk about must win ballgames you’re talking about a game like tonight. And there’s no other pitcher I’d rather have on the mound than BGDP. He’s our defacto ace. Three reasons it’s a must win –

    1. We can’t lose 2 series in a row to last place clubs. That would be devastating for morale.

    2. O’s won, Jays lost, M’s lost, KC won, Indians won. With so many clubs in contention we have to keep pace and gain ground when we can. A win tonight would put us tied in the loss for the 2nd WC.

    3. Tigers and their 4 aces are coming to town. No pitcher on our starting staff would even crack the Tigers starting 5. We’ll need some luck to split that series so they need to take advantage of a struggling pitcher tonight.

    • AndrewYF

      Oops. “BG”DP is not a mid-rotation starter.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Please accept my apologies for posting something not baseball related in the Open Thread. I had no idea that wasn’t allowed. If I do something here that isn’t according to Hoyle (not hitting reply, posting in the wrong thread, etc.) please feel free to bring it to my attention and I will be sure to correct it. At lohud we posted whatever we wanted in any thread we were in. It’s just the way it was. When I saw Open Thread I didn’t realize that only posts related to baseball were allowed. Now I know. I guess there is something called Off Topic?

    Anyway, I apologize again.

    • forensic

The open thread is for anything, though politics and religion are usually considered off-limits anywhere because things get too heated and cause lots of issues. I’m guessing yours kind of meandered toward the religion part of that.

      • forensic

And yes, there is an off-topic thread too which is always available in the nav bar at the top under the street sign. But again, you should probably avoid religion and politics in there too.

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Ah. I guess if I left the second paragraph off it would have been okay. The first part was about the spate of parents killing their kids.

        I’ll be more careful.

        Thanks.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

I mean, there’s some topics that I honestly don’t want to know where some of fans I interact with stand on but, if you’re willing to put yourself out there, anything other than religion or politics is fine in an Open Thread.

    • Christ is King

what does Pollyanna mean or refer too?

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I am someone you could call an “always optimistic” Yankee fan. That position was derided by some on Lohud and we were termed pollyannas.

I started out using my regular name but for some reason that won’t post anymore.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

Then you’ll feel right at home here.

          • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

As an optimist, it is really nice when there are kindred spirits around. We come by our optimism as honestly as pessimists come by their pessimism. For some reason we seem to bother them more than they bother us. JMO

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

I get branded one because I’m not first to say the team is going down in flames. I don’t use this forum to scream at the team at others do, even when I’m not happy at things. This, and my willingness to play both sides or argument and see nuance, is lost on some here.

I’m probably just a Pollyanna anyway.

            • OldYanksFan

Hey… you can start your own blog:

#7 has a picture of me on it.

  • Oy Vay !

Non-sensical on my part, but man I really like Cervelli in the line-up. But with Tex and McCaan in there, no room.

  • TWTR

I’m pretty high on Phelps in a #3 starter sort of way, so don’t make me look bad Dave!

    • forensic

I’ve always been pretty high, comparably, on Phelps. I really think he’s a pretty solid mid-rotation type of pitcher for them, which is extremely valuable considering his salary.

    • TWTR

      Thanks Phelps.

  • Madrugador

Pineda went to the back of the mound several times and flexed his shoulder and back in between pitches. No one seemed to be concerned but should we be?

    • wanzies222

I talked to a couple of scouts during the game and apparently he was anxious today, not wanting a set back.

Kinda like when you are rehabbing and you go looking for the pain.

He was loose and free today (see previous thread).

  • tom

Tanaka will make a first step forward tomorrow. oorah!

  • forensic

As if ESPN’s announcer calls weren’t bad enough, hey, let’s move them another 300 feet further away! What could possibly go wrong?

  • forensic

Wow!!! Cespedes hit a fly ball during BP into the first row of seats over the monster?!? Amazing!

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Still really excited about our pitching possibilities.

Decided the Tigers have become the Yankees.

    :(

  • forensic

I won’t be watching the game till later, but out of curiosity are any of the Giants actual starters playing at all tonight or is it just backups all game long?

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

David Phelps is really an excellent pitcher. He definitely has put out pitches and when he trusts his stuff and doesn’t overthink things, he can get anybody out. When he starts to think too much, he starts to nibble at the corners and that’s when he gets in trouble.

  • PhillyMatt

Decisions, decisions watch ESPN with the mute button on or the normal Gameday on the computer?

    • Chip Rodriguez

ESPN on mute, John and Suzyn talking.

  • No More

Offense will NOT start to turn around until it is 1 Ellsbury 2 Gardner at the top of the lineup. Will not happen until next year.

  • forensic

375 feet away for the monster??? Yeah, sure…

  • No More

    Say it now:

Ellsbury, Gardner, Beltran, Teixeira, McCann, ARod, Drew, Prado, Refsnyder

  • RkyMtnYank

That’s why Gardy has to go earlier in the count, to avoid even getting into that situation, something Ells is much better at. With Gardy’s power surge maybe switching the two in the lineup isn’t the worst idea.

    • Pat M.

You make a solid point about Gardner running earlier in the count . I thought he should have been on the move when the count went 2-0. Jeter scalds a 2 hopper and raps into a dp

  • forensic

Ugh, even with the runner going…

  • chickenstanley

criminy! can’t avoid the DP even with Gardy running!

  • Terry from NH

Come on Phelps. This is going to get ugly quickly. Couldn’t put Pedroia away.. Ugh!

  • No More

This is going to be a frustrating night.

    • Terry from NH

He has always frustrated me. He’s good at times, but I just don’t trust him.

  • No More

This is scary. Cespedes is a transformative player. He will dominate in Boston with prodigious homeruns.

    • No More

I think Boston teaches Cespedes the one key missing to his game: OBP and BBs.

  • forensic

    Less than ideal start.

    • No More

Bost senses blood. This feels like another letdown game where they lose by 1 or 2 runs.

      • No More

I fear Napoli puts a huge dent here.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Is it time to teach our new friends as to what BGDP means?

    • Pat M.

      Please do.

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Are you being funny or have you dubbed it something different here?

      • forensic

        What was it there?

        • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

          Ground ball double play.

          • TheRealGreg

Ours stands for Big Game David Phelps. A monacre which he might have to cede after two meh starts.

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

              NEVER.

              And moniker.

            • cr1

              I’m thinking SLDP.

Where SL stands for Short Leash.

          • forensic

That’s GBDP. BGDP is different. Big Game Dave Phelps. Just another Eddard thing…

  • Terry from NH

ESPN still talks up the Sox like they are a team in first place. I gotta mute these guys.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

This definitely isn’t the version of Phelps of which I was speaking!

    :(

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Not totally crazy about this strike zone.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    Time for a GBDP…

    ;)

  • No More

I kind of think Prado should have had that.

  • Mickey Scheister

Where are some of these missing? Also, ESPN is awful. Prado doing his best statue impression.

  • Terry from NH

Prado could of had that one. I also hate Napoli! Prado wasn’t moving when he caught that WTF!

  • Chip Rodriguez

one out, three runs. get the alcohol.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Looks like an Esmil Rogers/Chase Whitley game, huh?

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

    To answer you both:

I’m sure you’ve all become acquainted with eddard at this point.

Most long-timers have learned to ignore him at this point, but there are two truly funny things he contributed to the lore of this place. One, probably only funny to me, was to continue referring to Steve Pearce as “Sam Pearce” when he was on the team. The other is to refer to David Phelps as “Big Game Dave Phelps,” or “BGDP.”

I’ve found BGDP to be a pretty versatile term. You can use is seriously when he has a good game, or sarcastically at moments such as…..right fucking now.

    BGDP!

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

      Duh. BGDP. I’m thinking GBDP.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Reply to pat m and Pollyanna above. Nesting seems to be broken. No, that’s not the least bit suspicious.

      #itsthelohudders

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

        LMAO!!!!!!

    • Pat M.

Your style and wit seem familiar to me, did you post on occasions at the Lohud site ????

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

Not in any meaningful way that you’d remember, and I must have stopped around 2008-9 or so.

        • Pat M.

          Thank You.

    • ropeadope

Are you now Eddard’s agent? I thought the funniest thing he ever posted was promising to discontinue his act and leave the blog (he stated that Vicki figured him out), and was right back at it before any of us could even celebrate. Or was that the lamest thing he ever posted? One or the other.

  • Carlos Beddardtran

And that’s the ballgame. No way this offense can get 5+ runs as that is what it will take to win. Phelps just looks awful out there and he really shouldn’t be starting.

  • SweetSpot

Phelps is throwing batting practice junk.

  • TheRealGreg

The good news is that Toronto had a horrible series against the Astros and is determined to keep everybody in this WC race.

  • Widget

Yankees can still easily come back in this game. In case anyone forgot, Laptop sucks pretty bad.

  • trollhunter

This game is over already. This team is unwatchable. The Yankees suck theeeeeeeeeed yankees suck!

  • Terry from NH

Safe to say that David Phelps sucks tonight. Another first inning 3 run deficit. Nice rotation we have now!

  • No More

This could get ugly quickly. Lost tonight and a trouncing by the Tigers in four games.

    • Terry from NH

This time next week and they could be farther back in the standings. Wild card is their only hope and hope that Toronto falls back.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Always smile when I see “game over” in the early innings.

  • forensic

Nice job hanging in there by Drew.

  • Mickey Scheister

Let’s hope this strike zone, as tight as it’s being called, is at least consistent tonight for both teams.

  • nycsportzfan

Way to get through 1inn BGDP! Pfft!

  • BigBlueAL

Its a good thing the Yankees didnt pickup another SP by the trade deadline. Gonna be fun watching the pitching matchups next 4 games vs the Tigers.

    • TheRealGreg

      Who?

  • Widget

Hard to win a baseball game with that strike zone. Umpires in Fenway have always been insanely biased to that douchebag team.

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I too thought the zone was pretty tight. Let’s see if laptops gets a different zone.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

So how big a leash does helps have? Will he get the last two outs and settle down? Will he come out for the second no matter what?

    WE’LL SOON FIND OUT!

  • SweetSpot

Scoreboard update. Comments on Lo Hud – 0.

    • Pete22

I don’t think they care, comments do not generate revenue and they eliminated a lot of head aches

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

No way to know for sure, but I wondered if they wanted to phase the comment section out but chose to do it this way rather than announce it and set off a sh*t storm.

  • Mickey Scheister

If the zone is down the middle and down the middle only, this should be a 4 or 5 hour 12-14 Yankees win. Plenty of time to tune into True Blood and The Leftovers and still catch the final three innings.

    • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

This game could be 4 hours alone in a 1-0 games when taking into consideration how long Buchholz takes between pitches.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Darn it. Hate when those things aren’t doubles.

  • Pete22

Buchholz had nothing that 1st inning, and he does not look much better in the 2nd. Lot of runs will be scored tonight

    • chickenstanley

Hope youre right pete… encouraging start to the inning

  • Mickey Scheister

The Yanks have some incredible speed then there is Teix, Beltran and McCann. Station to station.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

What the hell sense does it make for Fenway to boo Drew?

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

I think they’re saying “Drewwwww” much like the “youuuuuuuk” chant. But I was saying “boo-urns.”

  • nycsportzfan

Bases Juiced! I tell ya what this new lineup is walking alot and I love it!

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

It’s really good for your blood circulation.

  • forensic

    Geez, Headley…

Come on, Drew. Here’s your chance!

    • forensic

Well, it’s a run but that was less than impressive there.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

    Attaboy, laptop boy.

BGDP will the winning pitcher of this ballgame. That is what my crystal balls say at the moment.

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I’m trusting your crystal ball. If Phelps can get into a good rhythm, this game will be ours.

  • forensic

Ok, gotta take advantage of this now. Can’t squander this opportunity. Need a crooked number.

  • Pete22

Good hustle by Drew to get the RBI

  • The Great Gonzo

JD Drew getting hisself a little ribbie action there. Apparently hes quick? I guess??

    • forensic

Stephen, not JD. And not much speed, but certainly better than some guys in the lineup.

      • The Great Gonzo

FUCK ME. Forensic, do you know how many times a week I do that? Not even on line… in REAL life. When I am talking about Drew, I call him JD.

Or Nancy. I usually call him Nancy Drew too. But he plays for the good guys now… But, I’ll still call him Nancy.

        • ropeadope

I wouldn’t be concerned, but if you call Victor Martinez, JD Martinez, we could have a pattern.

  • Mickey Scheister

Laptops getting a slightly bigger zone here, high and inside. A sympathy strike?

  • ScottinSJ

Sorry for that first post. Another LoHud refugee here.

Nice to “see” you again, Pete. Need more than one run this inning.

        • ScottinSJ

Way to go, Gardner! Two lousy starting pitchers here tonight.

  • nycsportzfan

Way to leg it out Drew! Feeeewww!

  • Widget

Terrible at bat from Chase. That was the game.

    • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

      Come on!

  • Mickey Scheister

    C’mon Yankees…do something!!!

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Thank God for that. It would have been horrible if we put up a zero.

    • Christ is King

So your real name is Tri.sha without the . but you put up Pollyanna… Ok, sorry Im into your business so much… I too spoke a bit about Jesus in another thread and I was told to stop, respectfully ofcourse. Nice guys here.

  • GregD

our best offensive play….a double play missed

    • Pete22

Too bad Jete has lost a step or we might have scored in the 1st. Just a matter of time before they get to crook

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

    Atta boy, Gardy!

  • The Great Gonzo

Need Prado to get his ass in gear soon. At least Ichiro would cheat on one every once in a while and get something going…

    • The Great Gonzo

Wellp, not a base clearing double, but… a walk is as good as a hit.

  • Pete22

Gardner might have got 6/120 as a free agent after this year

    • Blake

Hard to say but I don’t think it’s a coincidence he’s playin his best baseball ever after getting that contract……this dude has fought his way up the ladder his entire baseball career…..from walking on in college…..to really never being a big time prospect……to having to fight for playin time annually with the Yankees. It has to feel good to finally get some securitu so he can just relax and play…….really happy for him……as happy as I’ve ever been for a guy to get paid. He earned it

  • Terry

70 pitches so far, and approaching an hour into the game.

    It’s still the first inning.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Red Sox and Yankees game.

    • forensic

      2nd inning.

    • Terry

Strike that, top of the 2nd.

I just turned on the game.

      But it’s still ridiculous.

      • The Great Gonzo

Got to head to the airport at like 6am, so we should be in the 8th by then, right?

        • Terry

          6 AM EST?

          8th?

          You’re optimistic.

          I was think 7th.

Then when you land several hours later, you’ll turn on the game and it’ll be tied in the 14th.

  • TheStraw

    Attaboy, Brett!

  • GGBG Fan

GGBG! Glad he could pick up BGDP!

  • Chip Rodriguez

My man-crush on Gardner has now reached massive proportions.

  • BigBlueAL

Its amazing how quickly once Cano left Gardner has easily become my favorite player on the Yankees to watch and its not even close. Gardner has been incredible this season, a joy to watch.

  • Blake

Thanks heavens for our best player Bret Gardner ( and that laptop sucks)

  • Dan in Athens

Bases loaded, no one out, usually time for a mouth full of dick. Over under on one hit or walk?

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Apparently, the mouth full of dick occurred in the Fenway dugout…..not that there’s anything wrong with that.

    • The Great Gonzo

      OVER, bitch!!!

    • Dan in Athens

The over? YES!!!!! I’m going to buy a lotto ticket. Nice job gentlemen!

  • Wow

    Brett Gardner, Cleanup Hitter.

    • Blake

He should hit 3rd no joke…..he’s their best hitter this year

  • Pat M.

See folks, this is why you play out the 27 outs, games are very seldom over by the 1st inning.

  • Yankee Fan 1

Love seeing Brett Gardner do so well this year. I always have a softspot for the homegrown guys

  • nycsportzfan

Way to come back Yanks! This offense is looking good together.

  • The Great Gonzo

Man is Buchholtz missing all over the place.

  • J2L

Only Jeter can make 3 outs in 2 innings. I gonna miss his 3,000 ground ball to the right side next year.

    • Rolling Doughnut

Yeah but ratboy robbed him on the last one.

  • The Great Gonzo

Man, I got a bag of dicks with Pedroias name all over them

    • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

      Which Pedroia?

      • The Great Gonzo

Of age, grown man dicks, so obviously not Brett.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha
    • Jorge Steinbrenner

      Approved.

  • Andy

Anyone notice when Gardner hit the double, Kruk and Shulman literally didn’t say anything…and then when Jeter grounded out they creamed their pants for Pedroia? NESPN at its finest

  • GregD

    This umpire’s strike zone is a mystery…..

  • Pete22

Jeter is 151 among 155 players in WPA. -1.8 wins batting 2nd. To be fair, had a bit of bad luck tonight

    • Terry

      Great play by Drew.

At some point, they’re going to have to bring in Whitley.

They can’t possibly keep getting him up to warm up. Even a third time warming up is really pushing it too far.

  • forensic

Haven’t we had more than enough “Fenway Appreciation Nights” already???

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

    BGDP.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    • The Great Gonzo

Not very Polyannaish of you. And I know, I (much like Jorge) get referenced as a Polyanna as well.

  • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

So many times I wonder what it would be like to know that Dustin Pedroia was dead.

Sadly, I’m not joking. I hate him that much.

    • Widget

I take comfort in the fact that he’s related to Brett Pedroia.

  • nyy13

Is Jeter the king of leaving men on bases?

    Mr. Clutch!! LOL!

    • nycsportzfan

He just belted a HR and had sweet 2run double in the past 2games.

  • BigBlueAL

The Pedroia dick pulling will be non-stop now despite him making a diving catch on a ball Cano probably catches routinely lol. Cant believe there was an actual debate once on who was the better player, Cano has been the BY FAR better hitter since 2009.

    • BigBlueAL

Hitting a HR off Phelps wont change that either lol.

  • ScottinSJ

Can’t give Phelps a long leash. They are hitting him hard.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    With two out.

But I blame the ump for some of this. Thankfully it appears you can do that here without having some dipstick telling you the umps are blameless…

    • UnKnown

      You’re such a whiny bitch.

      Why is that?

    • UnKnown

You got the inferiority complex of a “Sux” fan.

Get a freaking life and quit trying to stir up shit.

      Now your excused. NEXT!!!! LMFAO

  • TheRealGreg

Last two starts have been bad for Phelps. 4 runs against a bad Texas Rangers team and now this.

  • The Great Gonzo

NANCY DREW! He looks pretty good at 2B so far, not gonna lie.

  • Belial

Pedroia is a great player. And Phelps is a lousy pitcher.

    • Terry from NH

He’s a good defender with an average bat that grows a beard to look taller lol

    • Widget

Great? Yeah this isn’t 2007. He’s average at best.

  • W.B. Mason Williams

Where does the Yankee staff rank in homers given up?

Seems like we manage to turn one guy on the other team into Hank Aaron more often than usual…

    • TheRealGreg

Last in the AL aka most HRs given up by a bit of a margin

      • W.B. Mason Williams

        My suspicions are confirmed.

Time to make a bunch of wild accusations, amateur advice and vitriolic rants.

Let’s start with Rothschild and Phelps.

I’ll get to Girardi when I’m good and drunk.

Just kidding, we can still win this. COME ON DAVE.

  • Widget

Get him the hell out of there. Wow Phelps. Pedroia is trash. He’s fallen off a cliff but no you have to give up a homer to one of the weakest hitters in baseball.

    • OldYanksFan

Pedroia is a career 115 OPS+ guy… outstanding for a middle infielder. Before you say stupid things, feel free to actually look things up at: http://www.baseball-reference.com/

  • Terry from NH

Piss poor job by Phelps tonight. Team gives him the 3 runs to tie it and he gets owned by the Elf.

  • The Great Gonzo

I hate him. Hate, hate hate Pedroia.

  • ScottinSJ

Too long a leash already. He’s garbage.

  • Blake

Dad gum you again Pedroia…..somebody call Gargamel and tell him to come get him

  • forensic

    Damn munchkin.

  • Papa John

If Yankees win this game, I’ll give everybody 50% off their online order tomorrow at Papa John dot com. Just enter the promo code Yankees6 when you order.

    • Christ is King

Nice! Im a Pizza Hut guy myself

      • Papa John

They stole my idea for stuffed crust pizza. Damn the patent office.

    • Papa John

Or papa johns dot com. Whatever works for you.

      • Papa John

What the hell, deal cited above good all day tomorrow even if Yankees lose!

    • BigBlueAL

Do New Yorkers actually eat major chain pizza?? Why in the world would you guys do so?? I live in Miami so the only pizza to eat is basically Papa Johns or Pizza Hut. Though there is a pizzeria by my house which makes NY style slices which is great but still not as good as a slice of pizza from any local NY pizzeria.

      • McLovin

For some reason I like Dominoes but the local pizzerias are always the best.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

Frankie’s Pizza. Bird Road and the 90’s. Miami institution.

Miami’s a pizza wasteland if you’re not talking thin, gourmet style stuff.

Fuck no, I would never eat chain pizza living in New York, or in my current Connecticut living situation. Hell, ESPECIALLY not in my CT living situation. I’m in pizza heaven, bay-bee.

That being said, a lot of poorer people in NY will eat Dominoes and the such just because of relative price.

      • ropeadope

Enough demand to keep both the mom & pop stores and the chains rolling in dough. I like the Pizza Hut lunch buffet which has a nice salad bar and assorted extras. If you’re just looking for a quick slice, your local parlor is the place to go.

      • Mandy Stankiewicz

No, we don’t, even though the “99cents” places are pretty close to chain.

  • Rolling Doughnut

    Nobody up?

  • Widget

Luckily Dell Inspiron is worse than Phelps so they have a chance.

  • Blake

Phelps usually gives you a shot but they gotta get him out of there if they are gonna have a shot tonight

    • The Great Gonzo

Ironically, with Buchholtz being such garbage today, he is kinda keeping them in the game still…

      • ScottinSJ

He’s pitching better than Phelps thus far.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Why are posts going in opposite order? Some things I am posting now are showing up in order as earlier than things I posted a while ago!

    • nycsportzfan

      glitch.

    • Pete22

Timing is all messed up. I suspect the time starts when a post is started and not when it is actually posted

    • forensic

There have been some timestamp issues like that for a month or two now.

    • Terry from NH

This site definitely has it’s bugs.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

A fun little glitch. Roll with it.

  • The Great Gonzo

NANCY FUCKING DREW with the leather.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

What’s not Pollyanna about that? It’s the Suxers I’m talking about!

    COOL DREW!

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    Nice grab Drew, damn!

  • Pete22

What a play by Drew, when did he move to SS???

    • forensic

It’ll be so much easier for him next year if they re-sign him since he’ll only have to cover SS instead of SS and 2B like he has to do now.

  • nycsportzfan

Frustration. Come on Phelps! Get outta this freaking 2nd inning! His velocity seems down tonight.

    • Christ is King

I dont know if it’s his velocity or whatever it is, but it seems like the Red Sox always give the Yankees a hard time. Especially this team that makes terrible pitchers look like Cy Young candidates… See previous Texas series.

    • Axis of Mike

      Whew. Drew saves the day.

  • forensic

    Nice play, Drew.

Oh good, now we get to hear from Cherington. There hasn’t been nearly enough Red Sox/Fenway talk yet tonight.

    • blake

Usually by now they have spent about half the air time focusing on Pedroia’s pre pitch grittiness……oh look how much he’s jumping around…..look how hustly he looks…..look how short he is but how amazingly unbelievable he is at life and baseball.

    • chickenstanley

I don’t care for any of the in-game interviews… the fact that its Cherington makes me want to jab pencils in my ears!

  • nycsportzfan

    Web Gem by Drew.

  • Blake

Who didn’t think Drew could play 2B? Wow

  • TWTR

    Stellar play.

  • Pete22

Somone should ask Cherington how he explains 2 last place finishes in 3 years

    • whobeefed?

      And a World Series Championship.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

The championship in the middle there does a lot to ease the pain.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Seriously? ESPN loves the Sawx so much they need to have the GM on the air via telephone?! During a live game? It’s not like Olney is interviewing him in the stands, he’s calling in and speaking to the commentators!

    Sunday night Baseball disgusts me.

    • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

This is a damn radio interview on the “game of the week.”

  • Pat M.

Real nice play by Drew ( shortstops can play anywhere ) but the the key to the out was the stretch by Texeria. Doesn’t show up in any of the new stat stuff.

    • chickenstanley

only a matter of time Pat M. till we know that Tex’s stretch on that play was 72.5 inches, catching a ball deflected off the ground at an angle of 36 degrees… :)

      • Tar

        CHicken!!!!! :D

        • chickenstanley

Greetings Tar! good to see you and all the others… I’ve spent a few days watching (trying to learn the rules)… seems like a bunch of good folks already here.

          • chickenstanley

I meant a lot of the RAB regulars seem to be good guys (and gals)

          • Tar

            Yep

And they all love me here already!!! So much so, that they even make suggestions on where I can go, and where I can shove stuff. :D

            • chickenstanley

Glad to know you’re feeling at home :D

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

              At least you’re not Bigdan.

    • blake

yes it’s why Earl Weaver basically was in favor of just drafting SS’s…..because he could make them into every position if he wanted. (except catcher of course). The pivot and getting used to the assignments on everything make take a little time for him to be comfortable…..but it won’t take long….it’s an easier position and he’s a world class level defender.

      • Pat M.

blake. I was shifted over to 2nd because I threw 3/4 to side arm which as you know is ideal for 2nd. I did find playing 2nd harder on my knees though but overall not as demanding as short

        • Blake

I played SS in college but 2B was my best position really……I had the arm strength to play SS but not the range to really play it at a higher level. That play Drew just add is the hardest one by far for a 2B because you’re totally throwing against your body…….Cano was so good at that but could have hardly done it better than Drew just did

  • TWTR

Got to shake this bad streak.

    • ScottinSJ

Gonna need 9 or 10 runs to win tonight.

  • blake

They gotta get Ellsbury going again…..the offense is a different animal when he hits. He’s been incredibly streaky this year……super hot and then super not.

    • Pete22

Red Sox would love to have the streaky Ellsbury back though considering what Bradley has given them. I did hope for more from Ellsbury though

  • TWTR

    I hate first pitch swinging.

  • nycsportzfan

Some on the pitches batters argue about are weird. Like Beltran there. I mean, it was a perfect pitch, Belt high and clearly got plenty of plate. Yet he thinks it wasen’t a strike?

    • Christ is King

I think he still sees Wainwright every once in a while in between pitches… Cut the guy some slack…

  • TheStraw

Joe realizing how bad they need this game,

  • TWTR

The Homeplate umpire has had a terrible strike zone for the Yankees

  • Pete22

Letting Buchholz off the hook here. He was awful the first 2 innings. They should have had 8 runs and knocked him out. Phelps needs to be a a short leash to keep this a game.

    • Pete22

      Thats short enough Joe. LOL

      • ScottinSJ

One crappy pitcher following another, unfortunately.

  • whobeefed?

    Nice job, Phelpsie.

  • Pat M.

Whitley got away with one there

    • ScottinSJ

Whitley is leaving a lot of balls up. Lucky that he faced the poor portion of the lineup.

  • Christ is King

Not that anyone cares, but Peter O’Brien went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a Strikeout…. Just saying…. Now back to our regularly scheduled disappointment.

  • Chip Rodriguez

shall we rephrase BGDP to Ball Gone David Phelps after that?

Ichiro to pitch the eighth inning tonight?

  • Pete22

You know with all the Yankees back of the rotation starter types you wonder if they go to tandem starts like they do in the minors. You know, start one of the starters and then have another starter piggy back on their start after 3-4 innings before the other team gets to see them 3-4 times. Of course, you would need to carry 14 pitchers

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Prufrock must have glossies of Axisa since I haven’t said a frickin’ thing that is bannable and I am being shut out again.

Axisa, if you’re banning me, come out like a man and announce it rather than sneaking like a little mole in the night. And then announce why. If you have the balls.

    • Christ is King

      How do you really feel?

      • TWTR

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

      Something else must be occurring.

Mike is simply not that active on here to be doing what you think he’s doing.

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Jorge, I came on the first day using my first name. Try posting it. It’s been banned. Now I can’t post from my computer (meaning my IP) but I can post from someone else’s?

There was an ugly little cadre over at lohud who worked actively to get me banned over there and set me up at the end. I’m sure they have been feverishly writing to Axisa. And for all I know, one of them might know him personally.

If it’s not him, it’s someone on here with the power to ban. A friend of mine from Lohud wrote to the powers that be, the way people from here recommended, asking why I was banned and then never got an answer. That was almost a week ago.

In any event, you can’t post my name here. Try to figure that one out.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

I tried earlier, and I couldn’t. You’re right about that.

I’m sorry, but I can’t speak to what’s going on. What you’re describing makes it seem like there’s something there but, as forensic said, you’re currently posting.

It’s not Mike’s style to ban without you giving him a reason. This does sound odd. I’d try emailing him in order to clarify, to be honest. You’re better off addressing it directly than calling him out on here, that’s for sure.

        • forensic

Mike wouldn’t do something like that out of nowhere.

          • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I’m currently posting because I left my house – and IP – and went to a friend’s house to post. All of a sudden I couldn’t post anymore from my computer. But anyway.

    • Pat M.

      I don’t understand any of this ???

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

What are you seeing on your end? Difficulty posting? Explain.

    • Jimmy

Not for nothing but do you realize you are chastising a guy who spends at least a few hours a day putting together free content every day, 365 days a year and running this site basically by himself?

    • forensic

If you were really banned all your prior comments would’ve disappeared too. It must be something else.

  • McLovin

Yankee-Red Sox on ESPN, let’s talk about the Red Sox and every team not named the Yankees.

    • Pete22

Be nice if the Yankees gave them a reason to talk about them

  • Christ is King

    what does “laptops” mean?

    • TWTR

      I think he stole one.

      • Christ is King

who stole one? When you say laptops who are you referring too and why? Sorry, Im new around here, though I’ve been lurking for like 2 years.. Never saw how interactive this place was.

        • Yankee Fan 1

          Google Clay Buchholz laptops…

      • forensic

He actually stole 29 of them.

      • Widget

While in college he stole 29 laptops from a middle school and sold them. He was kicked off the team and transferred. The Yankees even looked at drafting him but obviously had concerns about his character because he is in fact a giant piece of shit.

        • McLovin

          Looks like one too.

  • nycsportzfan

Time to score Yanks. Lets get this thing knotted up again.

  • Carlos Beddardtran

Chase looks good tonight. If he can go 3 they have a shot. They 5 runs won’t win this ballgame. This will be one of those 10-9 five hour games.

  • cr1

Buchholz, as a college student about ten yrs ago, stole 29 laptops from a middle school and sold them on campus. For that he was tosed out, but got accepted to another college and resumed his career.

    • Christ is King

ohhhh ok, thanks… You guys are funny.

    • cr1

I did hit the reply button, sorry something didn’t work – that was a reply to CIK.

  • nycsportzfan

    Shift that, says Brian McCann!

    • TWTR

He had a great series in Fenway earlier in the season doing just that.

  • Widget

    I miss A-Rod. Headley sucks.

  • Christ is King

Headley is in one of those stretches where it seems everyone on the field becomes a Gold Glover… Amazing.

    • Blake

Keep hittin in hard and playing D and they’ll fall chase

  • Pat M.

Man Laptop has a ton of Vitalias in his hair. Greasy kid stuff is his calling card when he’s on the hill

    • TWTR

When he isn’t pitching sitting in the dugout, his hair is completely dray. So…

  • The Great Gonzo

This ump is all over the place… I swear he was umping my softball game today…

  • nycsportzfan

    Hell Yeah Stevie Drew!!!!!

  • Mikhel

You must be doing something really really bad for Axisa to ban you, but more likely than not you are experiencing one of those glitches we experience from time to time where comments seem to no appear until you refresh again with either control+F5 or shift+F5, one of those.

I have seen one maybe two banned in here.

  • Blake

    Steven Drew ladies and gents!

    • nycsportzfan

When we picked em up and I talked about lengthening the lineup, people liked to point out his stats, but obviously with Drew, you know the possibility is at least there to get hot. Guys like Roberts and Ryan, just aren’t gonna help offensively.

  • Pete22

Stepehn Drew is going to carry this team on his back for the rest of the way. Mark my words.

  • forensic

There you go Drew and McCann.

  • nycsportzfan

Wow what a terrible call on 2-0 to Headley by terd ump

  • McLovin

Anyone else here prefer long games? I love these Yankee Red Sox games that last four hours plus.

    • Yankee Fan 1

Not when they start at 8pm and you have to get up early for work in the morning

    • nycsportzfan

I love when Yanks stats for the players are going up. The kid in me can’t help that.lol

      • McLovin

Yeah same here I love it too lol

    • TWTR

As long as the Yankees win.

    • forensic

I don’t mind long games if they’re exciting and not excruciating, and if they’re not on ESPN or FOX.

      • McLovin

Fox games are the worst, listening to Buck can ruin anyone’s day.

  • The Great Gonzo

I will continue to call him Nancy Drew for as long as he is contributing. Nice double down the line to score a run.

    • TWTR

Drew is due for a bunch of normalization-induced hits.

  • ScottinSJ

With their performances against Texas and Boston, facing Scherzer, Price, Verlander and Co. should be a boatload of fun.

    • Pete22

Verlander has stunk this year. Scherzer and Price might be tough though

      • nycsportzfan

Hopefully we’ll take our past success against Price with us to Detroit.lol

  • The Great Gonzo

Pedroia needs to just go away.

    • Widget

It’s night time, trolls typically hide during the day.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Guys, I explained above. All of a sudden I couldn’t post from my computer. But I can post from a friend’s – different IP.

And my name will not post here. But it didn’t when I first started posting. And then it was put into the censor.

    Much too fishy.

    • The Great Gonzo

They’re on to you… abort mission.

      The Eagle has landed.

I REPEAT. The EAGLE has LANDED

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

What if she’s actually Duh Winnings?

Original name of that guy STILL BANNED.

        • ropeadope

Wasn’t there an individual using a variation of the trish name posting rude messages to you? Maybe that’s the reason for Polly’s difficulty.

          • forensic

I actually remember something like that too, now that you mention it. That was awhile ago though, I think.

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

Could be it. There was a fake trisha on here coming after me.

              • Jorge Steinbrenner

And check it out. I was able to actually get the name through.

WE HAVE A MYSTERY ON OUR HANDS.

                • forensic

                  How about Trisha?

                  • forensic

I was testing it with a capital. Guess it gets through in the comment but not as a name, at least at this point.

                    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Very strange, as there are definitely names you can’t get through here, no matter where you type them.

                • ropeadope

Call JD, um I mean Stephen, er I mean Nancy Drew.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Not on a VPN or shared IP, are you?

I’m on a VPN, and certain ranges don’t work here, almost as if someone once used that range and got banned.

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I hate to say it but I don’t know what VPN. Not on a shared IP either. But wow, you got the name trisha through!

        Veddy strange indeed.

  • Pete22

    Pray for Prado

    • ScottinSJ

The guy has not looked good at all. That was ball 4 he just swung at.

  • Pete22

    Headley is cursed.

  • Lukasz

At least Drew is getting off on the right foot. Its hard to play well when you leave a bitter taste in fans’ mouths in your first few games

    • Pete22

He was hitting well for the Red Sox after an awful start. Did the same last year and got real hot the last 2 months of the season

  • The Great Gonzo

    Prado…. no

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

I meant it DID when I first started posting.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Email Mike through “submit a tip” and politely express your concerns. Other than that, you’re here now, and that’s all that matters for the moment.

  • Tar

Notice the hair rub before that itch.

    • Tar

      itch, pitch…..

      • Tar

Girardi should call them on it. I mean it was obvious….. what goes around ……

    • Yankeefan91

im having this convo with my cousin in a text if this was the yankees espn would had notice.

      • Tar

Yep. Rubbed his hair just over his ear. Right before the last pitch to Jeter. Totally obvious too. If they hadn’t made such a big deal about it…….

Joe is too passive with stuff like that.

  • Chip Rodriguez

sigh, all those balls, and Jeter had to swing at the first thing near the strike zone?

  • TheRealGreg

I don’t care that Jeter is leaving men on base, the offense has not been the problem tonight.

    • ScottinSJ

The offense has not taken advantage of a lousy CB. They should have knocked him out already.

  • forensic

Moving Jeter out of the #2 spot would clearly only be a very minimal affect not worth doing…

    • TheRealGreg

It would. Who would we put in his place?

      • forensic

        Ellsbury, Headley, almost anyone…

        • TheRealGreg

And the back to back lefties goes back to Torre.

          • forensic

Back to back lefties, both of whom hit lefties fine. It’s just that your boy refuses to use logic instead of hard and fast rules that don’t apply half the time.

        • TheRealGreg

Ellsbury: Slumping, back to back lefties
          Headley: Slumping

          Next?

          • forensic

Slumps happen to every batter in the history of baseball. They aren’t eliminated just because they’re human.

  • ScottinSJ

Jeter is killing them tonight. 4 runs against a terrible Bucholtz is awful so far.

    • TheRealGreg

That’s BS and you know that. That’s how much they got off of him the last time they faced him.

      • McLovin

Four runs in four innings is good. Just Phelps pitching like crap makes it seem bad.

      • forensic

It being how much they got off him last time has nothing to do with it being good or bad. He’s a terrible pitcher and they’ve had a million baserunners. They should have more than four runs.

        • TheRealGreg

It is when your offense is generally bad and the opposing offense is the worst scoring offense in the American League.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Jorge, I have done that. He ignored me too. I am here because I am using someone else’s computer. But I won’t take up any more time on this, and thanks for the help and concern.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Yup. You’re here. Don’t threaten to maim anyone and you should be fine.

If you threaten to maim someone, make sure they deserved it.

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

        ;)

  • Christ is King

I think Prado, like guys who come to a new team (especially the Yankees trying to make the playoffs), they press a bit.. His previous AB he walked…

I think as fans we criticize, but I for one know that I wouldn’t even be able to SEE the ball, much less hit it.

    • Pete22

I can’t make pizza but I know a good one from a bad one. I do agree Prado might be pressing, but he was lousy all year even when he was not pressing, so maybe its more than that.

Very happy with the way Drew and Headley have approached their AB

    • forensic

He’s been pretty bad all year and especially bad right before the trade. I’m not so sure it’s pressing.

  • nycsportzfan

    Got 1 back at least.

  • J2L

So far, the difference in the game is the number 2 spot.

    • ScottinSJ

Our #3 hasn’t done anything in a long while. That hurts just as much.

  • W.B. Mason Williams

Who would have ever thought that Brett Gardner would take it upon himself to drag the Yankees into the postseason?

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

We could probably list a few commenters who wouldn’t have thought it.

  • BigBlueAL

I know its only been 3 games but man what a difference with having Drew at 2b over Roberts. Night and day.

  • Christ is King

I know it’s a respect, earned your stripes kinda thing, but why is Jeter batting so high up in the order? Granted, he’s batting better than .270, but I dont know… just seems like he has become a rally killer as opposed to a clutch player. Id probably bat him 6th or 7th

    • TheRealGreg

But who would we put in his place?

      • Christ is King

Id probably go with Gardner, Ells, Beltran, McCann, Tex or flip Tex and McCann, either way.. Maybe getting McCann some protection would help him out… then maybe go with Headley and Jeter or vice versa. Again, I dont know.. There’s a reason Im not a Manager of a baseball team.

        • TheRealGreg

Plus back to back lefties which is something the Yanks don’t like to do, going back to Torre.

        • TheRealGreg

Ells is slumping. Got another idea?

          • Christ is King

He’s slumping but I like his skills better than Jeter’s now… Has more speed so if Gardner gets on or maybe hits a double, the chances of him being, atleast, moved over would be greater with Ellsbury than with Jeter… Just throwing this out there, dont know all the sabermetrics that Im sure someone will bring up that Jeter is batting .900 in the 2nd hole with a runner on 2nd at 6:45 pm in the evening as opposed to Ellsbury batting .200 in the 2nd hole at 6:47pm Easter time ofcourse.

      • W.B. Mason Williams

        Mike Trout, obviously.

        • TheRealGreg

          Now you’re talking…

  • Don’t Ya Know

Anyone else bothered by ESPN’s camera angles?

    • McLovin

I hate when they show the pitch behind the plate, it annoys me.

      • Don’t Ya Know

Me too. You completely miss the ball crossing the plate.

  • GregD

    These ESPN announcers……….

  • Chip Rodriguez

oh god, Esmil Rogers is up in the pen.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

I knew it was going to be an Esmil kind of night in the second inning.

  • Exiledintampa

So far I wish Drew was the one with 2/22 and Prado was the rental.

    • Pete22

I believe we could have had him for 3/30 in ST so he would only cost 2/20 in 2015/2016. Would have lost the pick that got is a RP’er though

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

        Not exactly what he meant.

Too early to be concerned about Prado, though.

      • Exiledintampa

I was thinking 2/22 is what is left on Prado’s contract. Sayng I’d rather have Drew for that then Prado. Is /22 not correct?

  • Monkey Guy

I was in Cambridge on Friday night. Bustling bar.
    The TV’s had basketball on.
Sox vs Rivals wasn’t on at all.
    Greatest, most devoted fans ever!

    • BigBlueAL

What basketball, the USA scrimmage?? If the game was still on when it happened what was reaction when Paul George got injured??

      • Monkey Guy

What time was the injury? I arrived at the bar at 9pm-ish.
Didn’t hear any yelling or anything. Maybe I was in the bathroom.

  • TWTR

    He is so annoying.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

It’s 10PM and only the bottom of the 4th inning.

    Puke

    • ropeadope

      Game will end tomorrow.

  • TWTR

No one on the Yankees will ever drive that jerk off the plate

  • Carlos Beddardtran

And that’s the ballgame. Why one of our twelve lefties wasn’t brought in there I’ll never know. Girardi only has 50 pitchers in that pen.

  • ScottinSJ

This is putrid. No other way to put it.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Big Sloppy juiced with his butt buddy Manny in 2004 and 2007. But let’s all bow down to him.

Hey RABers. Here’s one of my rants. I’m convinced Selig tips off fenway when testing is coming around since he and John Henry have been thieves together for a long time. If you don’t believe it, read the Globe’s account of MLB’s supposed steroid investigation at fenway in 2009. Compelling.

Meanwhile, this game is draaaaaggggging. I feel like we’re in the 14th inning.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

Nah, although John Henry’s a goddamn rat.

I am very annoying to interact with when it comes to Ortiz. I honestly like him.

  • W.B. Mason Williams

Of course Ted Williams and David Ortiz get huge shout-out montages.

If only Dimaggio had played for the Red Sox, he would have a career worth remembering.

I hate ESPN so much sometimes.

    • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

All three guys have one thing in common: They were all assholes.

    • forensic

      Only sometimes?

    • Hankflorida

If DiMaggio played for the Redsox, he would have been the greatest player of all time. He lost many many hits in the confines of the old Stadium.

  • Widget

Ortiz is the one guy I so want to see come crashing down like Tiger and A-Rod have. Fakest player ever that gets pass after pass for his shitty attitude and complete unprofessionalism.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Mierda. Yet we’ll somehow tie this up because BOSTON.

  • BigBlueAL

Forget the lineup, the reason this team doesnt have a chance of making the playoffs is the rotation.

    • TWTR

It’s also the reason they’re in this position, which us still being in contention

      • Revan

Uhlolno. It’s the ineptitude of the AL East that’s keeping the Yanks afloat.

      • BigBlueAL

This is playing out identical to last season. Pitching was much better than expected during the 1st half of the season which kept them in it then in the 2nd half once some reinforcements were added and the offense got better the pitching collapsed and they were done.

      • Kenny

It’s what they call an aporia: a paralyzing contradiction you can’t avoid.

They don’t have right now–except for Kuroda–anyone who gives you the feeling he has swaggering Yankee confidence he can get guys like Ortiz and Napoli out. It’s a boys vs men arrangement with most of the rotation right now.

    • ScottinSJ

I’m not sure which of these two teams is playing for something. You can’t lose 4 of 6 to BOS and TEX and still claim to be a contender.

    • Revan

      Why not both?

      • BigBlueAL

The offense (and defense) is definitely much improved thanks to adding Headley, Drew and Prado. The offense and defense should be better over the next 2 months but the rotation is looking like its done and will be by far the biggest problem for the rest of the season. Hoping Pineda and Tanaka return healthy is a long shot but obviously would be very helpful but by the time they possibly return this team could be under .500 and out of it unfortunately.

    • Pete22

They should have had 10 runs off Buchholz tonight. For whatever reason they always let guys like Ortiz beat them instead of making him eat some dust by knocking him down. And their approach to Napoli is ridiculous.

    • J Katlak

Easy to say that, but then again this team has wasted more good pitching outings then the average team. Losses add up just as much with bad pitching as they do with bad hitting.

      • BigBlueAL

Im talking about over the next 2 months, obviously the pitching staff has kept the Yankees in the playoff chase for the first 4 months but just like last season it seems like the injuries and over-performing from the pitching staff is catching up to them and it could be a very ugly final 2 months for the pitching staff.

  • Christ is King

I knew Ortiz would hit that HR… Why? I dont know.. This Yankees team is pathetic ever since the Injury Plague hit… I still dont understand why they dont just sell and contemplate rebuilding with some younger guys… We are going to lose 2 out of 3 to the Red Sox who just, basically, traded away all their pitchers and have an offense that couldn’t scare a traveling squad…

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Are you sure that’s Chase WHITLEY in there?

  • TheRealGreg

Bottom Line: Your pitching staff gives up 7 runs to the worst scoring offense in the AL.

RAB: The offense is the problem!

    • TWTR

Because it is not about one game

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

      I’m enjoying un-OS’ing you.

Honestly, it’s Boston. Strange shit happens here. This game could end 101-100.

Nothing that happens when these two teams play has any bearing on how they perform against any other team.

      • Revan

Oh God, please don’t ever mention OS as a way to seem like you’ve been an old, respected regular.

OS was created to stop memes, stupid insulting jokes and piss poor attitudes and to ignore people who do them.

OS does not mean ignore everyone and continue to make unfunny wannabe TJSC jokes.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

          I see.

          #whoaskedthisguyanything

        • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

No, O:S was created to ignore people who constantly said the same stupid shit over and over again. And, really, you can’t even get the guy’s initials right?

Oh, but look. Here you are stalking Tilapia again. What a fucking surprise! YOU’RE THE REASON O:S WAS CREATED!

      • ropeadope

Even Knicks – Celtics have trouble getting to 101 – 100.

  • Pat M.

I can’t stand the SOB, but Ortiz is a must see at bat. Kind of what Reggie had

    • TWTR

      Reggie didn’t do PED.

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

That would be a huge BINGO!

      • Pat M.

Just a lot of leaded coffee

        • TWTR

          It should have been espresso.

        • Kenny

In the old days, 1920s, guys did performance disenhancing drugs and still made it to the HoF

  • nycsportzfan

    Shit

  • nycsportzfan

    Ok, lets chip away.

    • Pete22

Thing is, their late inning pen is pretty good, so they need to get to Buccholz and the middle relief

      • nycsportzfan

Ok, well then lets crack Buholz and knot it up before he goes out then!!!lol

  • nycsportzfan

We got alot of baseball left in this one. We can do this. I got a feeling Prado is going over the Monster tonight.

  • Christ is King

Boston doesn’t have to cheat to beat a team that was manhandled by Miles Mikolas

  • Widget

Cameras working overtime in Fenway tonight. Cheating bunch of cheats. Fitting that Farrell is their manager.

    • Pete22

Yeah, its almost like they know whats coming at home, which is what the Blue Jays were accused of doing, although it has not helped much this year

  • nycsportzfan

Phelps will pitch 2or3 solid games in a row now, just as we lose hope in him. This is who he is. These guys can pitch but when they get hit, they get hit hard.

  • TWTR

Your next streak starts in this at-bat

  • Pete22

Honestly, Ranaudo and Buchholz had nothing, but neither has our offense. Even yesterday most of the runs came from walks and bloops.

    Signs of life here though

  • Tar

Getting a two out run here would be huge.

  • TWTR

    Way to go Carlos

  • Widget

Just make it easy for him guys. Please keep swinging at shit out of the zone. I cant wait for the Yankees to just bottom out in the next few years. So sick of seeing old player after old player.

    • Kenny

They’ve always leavened their teams with old guys, vets–going back to the 40s and 50s and probably beyond. From Barrow, through Weiss, to Cashman, their GMs don’t trust the Yankee Empire to teams full of callow youth. That’s the royal road to non-contention.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

How many championships has this team won since the 1940’s? Sounds like that royal road was one worth travelling down.

        • Kenny

They won a bundle. That’s my point!

          • Jorge Steinbrenner

            Ah. Sorry.
            It reads completely different now.

    • Pete22

Young players are known for their plate discipline?

  • nycsportzfan

    Beltran making it look easy

  • Wow

    What a useless team.

    • nycsportzfan

      Yeah, they suck! Pfft! Ha!

  • Pete22

Drews going to put them ahead if they give him another shot at Buchholz

    • chickenstanley

not ahead, but nice call. your prediction skills seem to be improving over the course of the season :)

    • ScottinSJ

Close enough, Pete! We’ll take it.

  • nycsportzfan

    Headley!!!!

  • forensic

lol, Cespedes really played that well.

  • TWTR

Nice. This park us nuts but who cares?

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    GO YANKEES, GO YANKEES!!!

    :)

You really have to love these guys. You can’t say they ever roll over and die!

    • Pete22

Lets not go overboard, especially when it was the new guys who have accounted for 5 of 7 RBI’s

      • OldYanksFan

Yeah…. but those guys are now these guys!

  • Terry

    200+ pitches

    2+ hours

This game is not even half over.

    4.5 hours.

    Over?

    Under?

Over. But it will speed up once Buchholz is outta there.

    Yesssssss

  • Carlos Beddardtran

STEPHEN DREW SHOULD BE HITTING 2ND! WE HAVE FOUND OUR FUTURE SS!! TIE GAME

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

And it’s only the 5th. OMG this is going to be a long night!

    • ScottinSJ

10 runs will not be enough to win this game LOL

  • SweetSpot

    Cashman genius

    • Pete22

He should have listened to me and Blake earlier.

  • BigBlueAL

Yankees racking up the doubles tonight.

  • W.B. Mason Williams

    Stephen Drew ties the game.

    RAB goes supernova.

  • TheRealGreg

So has the offense still sucked tonight?

  • UnKnown

Love having an offense again. You do actually need to score to win games. That is a baseball FACT!!

Whole different feel to the lineup now days. It’s glorious.

    • blake

This is the most circular the lineup has been in a long time…..probably since 2011

      • UnKnown

Yeah it’s so cool. It’s like being able to breath again.

Falling behind by 3 or 4 runs isn’t a death sentence anymore. Heck a 2 run deficit was lights out. Starters better throw a shutout or you lose. That’s a bunch of crap. You need to score!

Really looking forward to that last two months with this lineup. Just give me the same pitching that we have seen all year and it’s October baseball.

        • blake

I really had a hard time when they couldn’t hit……as a Yankee fan Ive been conditioned to deal with some bad pitching occasionally……..but these last couple of years where they literally couldn’t score have been tough……I’m not used to that and I don’t like it

          • UnKnown

It was the worst. Even more horrible was that people were pretending that there really wasn’t problem at all.

“Oh they will come around” Yeah suuuuuurreee….

Pride POWER Pinstripes. All great Yankee teams hit and hit hard.

  • nycsportzfan

Tie Game!!!! Stephen Drew knots it up!!! What not, you freaking quitter fans!

  • Tar

Does Kruk even watch the game? Shut up and watch and maybe you can figure out the difference between a CB and a FB

  • forensic

    Yeah Drew!

    • nycsportzfan

      His 170BA hasen’t hurt us yet.lol

  • Yankeefan91

    DREWWWWWWWWWWWW

  • Pete22

4 RBI night for Drew ties it up

  • TWTR

Told you, Drew is better than he has shown this year.

    • W.B. Mason Williams

I don’t think anyone really believed he’d stay below the Mendoza line.

      • TWTR

You must’ve missed some of the comments

  • forensic

Buchholz must’ve had the wrong ‘sun tan lotion’ on tonight.

    • Kenny

I thought he must have cornered the market on the last unused bottles of Vaseline Hair Tonic. I love the quick finger move he makes to his fringes.

      • Exiledintampa

It’s Brylcreem. A little Dab will do ya.

        • Kenny

My wife claims it’s something called “Pomade.”

  • Chip Rodriguez

    THANK YOU STEPHEN DREW.

  • CR9

    we stink.

  • Not an ace

    Fuck the Red Sox

  • blake

Drew is such an upgrade over Roberts…..forget the stats….he’s a lot better player.

Bucholtz is just terrible…..this guy is just a shell of what he was last year and it was like that from his first start this spring ……he has nothing

    • Pete22

Pretty sure Buchholz will have shoulder surgery soon

      • blake

It was his back last year right? His stuff just isn’t the same at all and neither is his command /control

        • Pete22

No, Red Sox always put out disinformation and have the worst Docs in baseball. There were whispers of a labrum issue after Buchholz saw Andrews to get a 2nd opinion, and he put a hold on the Red Sox rehab program warning he risked more serious injury.

He has not been the same guy since the injury over 14 months after the injury.

    • UnKnown

      Great call on Drew, Blake.

Such an upgrade. Roberts doesn’t even belong on your local little league field anymore. And people were actually swooning over him. You can’t make it up.

  • Tar

See that rub over the right ear? SO freaking obvious

    • CR9

Howdy Tar! It was quite obvious.

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

The movement on the ball was brought to you by Murray’s. Murray’s, a lifetime supply in every jar

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Entirely obvious. But notice that he isn’t drenched the way he used to be between innings. Cuts down on his cheating effectiveness!

  • Christ is King

2 guys feeling pretty great right now have to be Drew and Phelps

    • forensic

Deep down I’m sure he’s glad that he won’t get the loss tonight, but I highly doubt Phelps is feeling pretty great right now with how he pitched tonight.

      • Christ is King

You’re right… I thought twice before I wrote Phelps name, didn’t want to attach it to feeling “great” but Im sure he’s sitting there thinking, ok I had a bad game but they can still win this.

  • TWTR

Prado needs to calm down. He’s swinging at balls and taking strikes.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

My god. They may have been right about Drew.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

Hey guys – I had a prediction contest I did every year on the other forum but now that it’s defunct we can do it here if you want! I’ll tell you about it later. Winner gets 5 Ritter Sports Bars, compliments on yours truly.

    • CR9

      Youre the best!!

      • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

        I try.

        :)

        • Christ is King

Polllyanna are you male or female… Just wondering… No disrespect meant.

          • trisha

            Female.

    • UnKnown

Yeah guys sign up and win. Then you get to give her your personal information which she gives to her stalker friend CR9 – see below – and then you too can get calls at work and have members of your family harassed.

Fun fun fun. Come one come all. Lohud remake RAB style.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

I’m not giving out my personal info to anyone on a baseball blog comment site. Sorry.

  • Lukasz

Loving all the extra base hits! If only the Yankees could hit like this everyday

  • FIPster Doofus

Rogers’ motion reminds me of Nova’s.

    • forensic

      Good call. Very similar.

  • chickenstanley

    Thus begins the Esmil era!

    • ScottinSJ

Not a bad start for Mister Rogers.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

50 players, we only hit that in September last year…

  • SweetSpot

    He pitched well!

  • Tom

I’m not sure if Esmil Rogers is going to be any good… but you have to like a guy who seems to work relatively quick and seems to be throwing strikes.

  • W.B. Mason Williams

Drew and Headley apparently got the memo about how you’re supposed to perform in rivalry games.

Somebody send Prado a fax. Or a tweet. Or a page.

    Smoke signals.

    Braille.

    • Christ is King

what did Prado do? Im watching game on Gameday…

  • TWTR

These jerks are so rooting for Lester to go back to the Sawx.

    • Kenny

Eliminate every word between “for” and “the Sawx” and you’re even closer to the point. I turned off the sound when they did their variety show bit with the Sawx GM. With sound off, you can notice the enormous camera interest in the Red Sox dugout.

      • TWTR

I should since I’ve been going back-and-forth with the giant game

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    Nice job, Esmil!

  • Pete22

Rogers looks better than his ERA. In Cash I should Trust

    • CR9

      Based on one inning??

      • The Great Gonzo

In fairness, Rogers is the only guy who has resembled a competent pitcher tonight.

    • Christ is King

It’s 1 inning against the worst offense in baseball… but I hear you..

      • W.B. Mason Williams

Game-to-game trends are much more important than season-long trends for a given moment.

Considering they’ve thrown up 7 already, I’d say getting through an inning unscathed in this game is a good accomplishment.

    • FIPster Doofus

Well, his FIP is a run and a half better than his ERA. However, his FIP is still bad.

  • BigBlueAL

Is CM Punk at the game, they were playing his theme song lol.

  • nycsportzfan

And just like that the Yanks are Winning! And they do it with another HR. And its Gardy!

  • blake

Good lord Gardner……these aren’t cheapies either

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

If anyone expected 15 home runs out of Brett Gardner in April, get your lottery ticket.

    • Lukasz

Hell man, even at all star break I figured 15 would be a good year-end estimate. This was unforeseen

  • Acx

I wish gardner would walk around the bases the way ortiz does…

  • TWTR

I would say the Gardner haters are all converted by now

  • BigBlueAL

    Gardner for MVP.

  • Pete22

I wish these 2 clowns would jump

  • Rolling Doughnut

    Gardy!

  • nycsportzfan

The Yanks are hitting quite a few HR’s since the AS break.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting & Defense

    Elbow inflammation for Phelps :(

    • forensic

      Really? Yuck.

  • BigBlueAL

Kevin Long has done a great job with Gardner :-)

    Re: lester.

If I am the tigers, I go to lester with the offer that scherzer rejected and see if he will take it.
6/144 is a lot more than the 4/70 boston offered and probably more than the yankees will offer him too.

I want the yankees to go for James Shields anyway….

    • FIPster Doofus

Not gonna happen with Price in the fold.

      • Chip Rodriguez

the Tigers’ bullpen will choke again and they’ll fail to get the ring. Then they sign Lester and go all in for next year with a Price-Lester-Verlander headed rotation. Mike Ilitch is not a poor man.

        • FIPster Doofus

Illitch has limits. Otherwise Scherzer would’ve been extended. Price was acquired to compensate next season for the hole Scherzer’s departure will leave.

          • FIPster Doofus

And to strengthen their chances this year, too, of course.

        • W.B. Mason Williams

Wonder if dangling Betances and some prospects would be able to pry Castellanos away.

A guy that can play RF and 3B with a little pop in his bat would be superb.

          • FIPster Doofus

I’d rather have Betances and the prospects. Castellanos hasn’t done anything that impressive and the five-year Oliver projections aren’t too bullish on him.

  • Tom

    15 HR’s?

At least leading off. not many of those are solo shots.

    #SwitchEllsburyAndGardner

  • FIPster Doofus

Fifteen dingers in one season for Gardy and it’s only Aug. 3. Unreal.

Going from Gardner’s AB’s to Jeter’s AB’s is like night and day.

  • Bo S8

    Meh, fourth OF.

  • Yankeefan91

    Gardnerrrrrrrrrrrr

    • nycsportzfan

Offense is clicking so far(new offense). Belty and Gardy are just red hot.

  • trisha

    Is it?

  • forensic

    En Fuego!!!

  • The Great Gonzo

Who is this Gardner guy? He should bat cleanup

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

    I love you, Brett Gardner.

  • Pete22

    The Bomber delivers again

  • FIPster Doofus

    ?@YankeesWFAN 2m

David Phelps didn’t leave the game simply because of his performance. Right elbow inflammation. Will be reevaluated this week in NY.

  • ScottinSJ

    Gardner is becoming a beast.

  • blake

Man Ellsbury can’t buy one……he’s hit the last two right on the screws and nothing to show for it

  • chickenstanley

Good lord! another tater for GGBG!!!!

  • UnKnown

Phelps elbow inflammation. Be a good time to get Big Mike back.

  • Yanks

Lol at the people who want to trade Gardner for a pitcher (Mike Leake for Gardner lolololololol) and sign Melky. Best offensive player on the team. Best position player on the team.

  • BigBlueAL

Phelps left game with right elbow inflammation. WOW.

  • Lukasz

    GARDNER! JONRONES RANCHEROS!

Damn that thing had to be like 430 feet

  • Need Pitching & Hitting & Defense

Gardner’s in full on beast mode.

  • Pollyanna aka tri.sha

    I am in love.

I will say that I never stopped supporting Gardy, was thrilled when he got his extension, but I never knew he was going to come through this way!

  • The Great Gonzo

    Dear Derek-

We all know we’ll be here till 1am. Take a fucking pitch. KTHX

    • MG

Jeter slash line when putting 1st pitch in play in 2014:

      .418 .421 .564 .985

He’s a 1st ballot HOF player, he knows how to hit…

  • Carlos Beddardtran

Now they can set up that pen. I’d mix and match in the 6th, don’t use Warren. Then go Kelley, Delin, Robertson 7-8-9. They need to secure this W.

  • Pete22

Ellsbury has hit a couple of 400 ft bombs that have been caught this series, and now is robbed again.

  • TWTR

Damn even when he hits it well…

  • Acx

Ellsbury cant buy a hit right now. He is hammering some of them though….

  • Pat M.

I’m going to be eating Gardner crow all winter

    • Bo S8

      Meh

That Gardner – Fourth OF at best.

  • Charles

Gardner=Brantley 2.0? Pretty much the same kind of player having the same kind of year?

Girardi has to switch Ellsbury and Gardner in the order, all of these homers are coming with no one on base.

  • Go Win

Glad to see a line-up which can came back in games. A few days ago, every time the team was behind in the scorecoard, it was an authomatic game over.

  • MG

Rogers has a really good arm, the Yankees claimed him because they thought he was fixable-he’s been a starter in the past, what a boost he could be if he can throw the ball like this consistently…

  • trisha

    OMG the fever has broken!

I think you guys solved the mystery. I was being mistaken for some other person who had been here before and apparently wasn’t very pleasant.

I think the powers that be have realized it.

Thank you, powers that be, for giving me my name back!

    :)

    • forensic

See, Mike’s not vindictive. He’s a very benevolent dictator. :-)

      • trisha

But maybe it took me calling him out for it to happen. He wouldn’t answer me before!

But hey, all’s well that ends well.

        :)

      • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

        Benevolent-ish dictator.

    • OldYanksFan

      You apologized to Mike, right?

      • trisha

No. I don’t think he expects it, anymore than I expect him to apologize for confusing me with someone else.

        It’s all good.

        :)

  • Acx

    Phelps injured too…..
If severino isn’t too hurt down in Trenton, we may see him sooner than we think.
Mitchell next? Or do they just bring Pineda back?

  • Go Win

Glad to see an offense that can come back after getting behind in the scoreboard. A few days ago, if the team was losing it ment that the game was over.

  • Pat M.

I’ll be eating a Brett Gardner crow all winter

  • BigBlueAL

This is alot of faith being shown in Rogers right now.

  • nycsportzfan

2-3 2B and 4RBI”s for Drew. Beastly night!

  • MG

With Phelps probably out for awhile they might as well plug Pineda back into the rotation on Friday instead of him, why consider anyone else?

  • Captain Clutch

I really don’t think that Ellsbury is comfortable batting 3rd. It looks like he changed his approach and is trying to do too much instead of just getting on base like he did when he batted lead off. I really wish that Girardi would switch him and Gardner in the lineup. Ellsbury and Gardner back to back would be something when you get Jeter out of the way.

    • Terry

      Gardner sucks.

He hasn’t hit a Triple for the Cycle yet.

      Make it happen, GGBG.

With the way things are going, I can understand why Girardi wants to keep the lineup as is.

Unless Ellsbury falls off the map (And his contact ratios and line drives are not indicative of that, Ellsbury stays where he is.

Besides, if the key is to have a circular lineup and string together hits, Gardner provides a deterence and “protection” for a vulnerable bottom of the order too.

      But Gardner still sucks.

Because no Cycle this game yet.

      • Pete22

The weak links that are killing rallies are Jeter batting 2nd and McCann at 6th. Drop both to 8/9 and you have a lineup that can string some hits together. Not going to happen though.

        • Terry

Jeter is fine where he is. It’s agreed that he GIDPs too much and Gardner gives him a lot of opportunities for him to do that. but it’s manageable.

McCann will be fine too [I hope].

Again, the new players, Drew, Headley, and Prado definitely solidify the lineup and provide some help to all involved. While fans don’t think it matters much, it matters to players, and even if it’s only a psychological edge, it’s enough.

Now, there’s only one thing to do with this lineup:

Watch the rest of the season play out.

Really, there’s nothing else that fans can do.

    • Yankee Fan 1

He is smoking balls for outs tonight. I don’t think he’s uncomfortable. That being said I’d definitely switch gardner and ellsbury. Ellsbury is a much better base stealer

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

I hate the wave and fans who do it. Props to 203 for crushing it and sending it back to flushing.

  • CR9

Gardy got his hands on a shipment of Papi

  • ScottinSJ

Still need more runs before this Picasso of a game is over.

  • SweetSpot

    RAB 610 – Lo HUD 9 What a blowout.

    • Pat M.

There was a time when The Yanks / BoSox games would pump out well over a thousand comments easily.

    • trisha

It all started to fall apart when I got set up.

Karma is a day at the beach.

      ;)

      • Yankee Fan 1

Glad you’re back to make everything about you!

        • trisha

          Glad you’re glad!

          :D

        • UnKnown

Always about her isn’t it. This place is really in for a surprise. One thing is for damn sure. Lohud was at it’s absolute best the last few months once she got RIGHTFULLY banned.

Sure the psycho CR9 was still there but without the self-absorbed feeding him personal info he is broke.

Kudos to Chad for sticking tough and upholding the well deserved well over due ban.

          • Jorge Steinbrenner

This ain’t LoHud. Leave your issues there.

          • italianyankeefan

But if you can’t stand Trisha, and you say LoHud got better once she was banned, why aren’t you back at LoHud supporting that site? Just curious. :)

  • trisha

Pat M, that’s okay. It’s the best way to eat crow, right? I am still eating Kuroda crow!

    :)

  • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

I’d like to think that Gardner’s homer was dedicated to Bigdan and his projection analysis.

  • Pete22

Gardner having a 2nd half not unlike Ellsbury in 2011. Hope it lasts longer than Ells

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

I don’t think the issue with the announcers is that they’re biased against the Yankees. I think they just stink as announcers. They barely call the action on the field. They didn’t even say anything about the last out of the 6th; they just kept talking about the ladder on the monster and then went to commercial.

So when they barely said anything at Gardner’s double in the 2nd or Beltran’s double in the 5th, that wasn’t anti-Yankee bias, that was just crappy announcing.

    • Pete22

Sorry, they are so biased it oozes. You can tell how excited they get when something goes right for the Red Sox and its a much lower zone when the same stuff goes right for the Yankees. Their voices ooze disappointment right now.

And they are awful announcers as well

      • Lukasz

They are definitely more biased for the Red Sox. Just this inning when they reviewed all the homeruns, they showed Pedroia’s homerun in flight and landing in the seats, they showed Ortiz homerun landing in the seats, but for Brett Gardner they just show a quick swing and then quickly switch. Why so much more airtime for Boston homeruns? Especially considering that Gardner homerun is the most influential homerun so far

  • Y’s Guy

    elbow inflammation from phelps.

    wow.

  • Pat M.

Suddenly the NY Yankee lineup looks impressive. Now if they solidify the rotation they’ll have a shot at winning the AL EAST

  • forensic

Beltran makes Cano look like he was sprinting down to 1st on his grounders.

    • ScottinSJ

      Yeah, that was pretty poor.

      • AndrewYF

His knees are shot. I would rather Beltran remain healthy than bust down the line on a routine groundout.

    • Chip Rodriguez

Cano was 29 and in prime health when jogging.

Beltran’s in his late 30s with knees as strong as newspaper. I’ll give him some slack.

  • ropeadope

Shades of Stu Miller in the ASG (although that was windblown Candlestick in SF).

  • Captain Clutch

You can guarantee that this game won’t end 8-7. It’s a miracle if the yanks can actually get the smurf and Ortiz out without one of them hitting the ball 700 feet.

  • ScottinSJ

Guys, this one is far from over. Let’s see who pitches the bottom of 7th.

  • trisha

The Yankee lineup looked impressive when they got 12 runs too.

To the average Yankee fan, the lineup looks impressive – until it doesn’t. Then it’s shit. If you get my drift.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Did anyone see that the Padres blew a save tonight on an error by Solarte? (I only saw a quick replay, but it looked like it wasn’t totally his fault and even if he hadn’t made the error the save would probably have been blown anyway.)

  • SweetSpot

    Is that the real Trisha?

    • trisha

      It is indeed!

  • Thurman Munster

Now just announced Phelps has elbow inflammation. DL next. Surgery?
When the Steinbrenners finally get around to firing Cashman and Newman, give the medical and training staff the boot too! Pathetic.

  • JimK

I do not know if it is this site or me, but I cannot get updated comments; I registered on the site yesterday but cannot find the logon screen.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting & Defense

Login is directly above the submit comment button.
That won’t really affect anything though.
Still have to refresh to see new comments.

      • JimK

Thanks, I feel like I should audition for either The Who’s “Tommy,” or “Helen Keller.”

      • forensic

Logging in actually has affected things for me. When I’m not logged in new comments almost never appear no matter how often I refresh it.

        • Need Pitching & Hitting & Defense

          Really?
Hadn’t noticed that, but I’m usually logged in anyways.

      • JimK

Thanks, I submitted a previous reply with a lame joke and it disappeared.

    • OldYanksFan

I think Trisha did something to your logon…

      • trisha

        LMAO!

  • CR9

Karma was always going to come to LOHUD.

  • Christ is King

The Giants beat the Bills, BTW…… FOOTBALL SEASON IS UPON US!!!

    • Terry

      Go Chargers!

      Die Bills!

Giants, I prefer Eli to lose high-scoring games.

And his brother will break more records and get trounced in the first round of the Playoffs.

  • trisha

SweetSpot, what a nice place to be. No more abuse from the self-appointed god!

    :)

    • SweetSpot

Good to see you. I never found out what happened to you I heardrumors maybe some quiet time here you can give us all a recap. If not I understand.

  • BigBlueAL

This is alot of trust being shown towards Rogers right now.

    • TheRealGreg

They just said he’s riding the hot arm

  • Captain Clutch

The announcers obsession with Ortiz is ridiculous. Enough already!

  • ropeadope

I thought that was going to hit me in the head. I ducked.

  • J2L

    Finger crossed Q_Q

  • MG

nice pitch by Rogers, jammed Ortiz there…

  • ropeadope

    Great work by Esmil.

  • trisha

See what I mean about the value of a Tex?

    YES!

  • Christ is King

Come on Gardy, hit a triple here… CYCLE TIME!! But if he hits the ball into that “Triangle”, it could be an ITP HR

    • ropeadope

I lost my train of thought at triangle.

  • Christ is King

AL East fans are pretty ruthless… I wonder how many fans are wondering… We gave up Lester for this scrub… Thank God that ball didn’t hit Yoenis…

  • Terry

It’s nice to have Texeira, Headley, and Drew in the infield.

Great peace of mind to the Yankee pitchers.

Nice to have Jeter out there too.

    • Go Win

Defense is certainly a strenght for this team now, Nice infield. Gardner, Ellsbury and Prado must be one of the best defensive OFs in BB. Mc Cann is a good defensive catcher.

  • TheRealGreg

What a job by Rogers, and I don’t think he’s done.

  • trisha

VERY nice showing by Esmil Rogers.

    Welcome to the Yanks, Esmil!

    :)

    • Go Win

Esmil was impressive today. He’s certainly won another chance to show what he has.

  • CMed21

Hope Girardi is content with Esmil’s performance but doesn’t use him in leverages like this in the future. Remember how Aceves pitched against the Rays a couple of months ago and how terrible he was after. Don’t be fooled!!!

  • nycsportzfan

Aaron Judge has 72walks in 107games. Hes avg’ing almost a walk a game to go with his 38 Ex base hits.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

He’s 6’8″ there, that’s why he wears 68 (insufferable commentary)

  • TheRealGreg

    Wish Gardner wouldn’t do that.

  • JGYank

So you’re telling me both of these offenses have scored 7 or more runs, Stephen Drew has had a great game, Gardy hits another HR and is demolishing pitchers, Phelps can’t pitch into the 3rd and has elbow inflammation, and Esmil Rogers has held the pitching together?

This is your average everyday game.

  • Christ is King

Prado is just pressing…. You can see he’s trying to hit a 9 run HR each at bat… That’s normal though for guys starting on a new team.

    • nycsportzfan

Not a bid deal. Hes only playing in his 3rd game with us so far. He’ll come around. Hes pretty much hit respectably to well every yr of his career.

  • FIPster Doofus

Please stop diving into first, Gardy.

  • nycsportzfan

Dang Gardy, don’t slide like that. I love the enthusiasm but your way to important at this point.

  • forensic

    Stop sliding into first base!!!

  • Captain Clutch

Not only does it make Gardner slower but we don’t need him to get hurt sliding into 1st base. I am sure that Girardi and the coaches have told him not to do it but it must be an instinct.

  • GregD

    Lets go Betances!!!

  • Tar

    That is just nasty

  • Captain Clutch

I really hope that Robertson comes back next year. I would be very upset if he signs with another team. The yanks and their stupid no extension policy is so stupid and it always costs them more money in the end.

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

That policy is and has been history.

    • forensic

The no-extension policy has been gone for a few years now.

  • TheRealGreg

That was huge. It means Robertson could potentially avoid Ortiz

  • Rolling Doughnut

    That is one Nasty Slider.

  • FIPster Doofus

Betances vs. JBJ. What a mismatch.

  • Exiledintampa

    Dam’n, Dellin’s stuff is filthy.

  • nycsportzfan

My lord, someone make a gif of that SO pitch to Bradley Jr. by Big D!! Wowsers!!

  • ScottinSJ

Another 1 or 2 run game? What a shocker.

    • TheRealGreg

I think this would be potentially their 13th straight game decided by 2 runs or less, which is a franchise record.

      • forensic

This would be their 14th straight.

        • TheRealGreg

Thank you, I wasn’t sure about that

  • trisha

Let’s see if I can try this without a richter scale measurement of 10 and threat of eternal damnation from those who REALLY “know”.

Betances does not belong in the starting rotation but definitely has stuff that translates beautifully for an EIG or eventually a closer. There is no way that he can repeat the ferocity of his delivery over 6 or more innings.

    • SweetSpot

      Yup it’s you! I totally agree. :)

      • trisha

        :)

    • UnKnown

You’re so obsessed with the Legend we all love called Pruf it is really something. You can’t post anything that doesn’t reference him.

Really upset how much more he knows about baseball then you do huh. Sad sad.

I’m really sure everyone here wants to hear all about your past at Lohud and how hard it was for you. Poor poor you. HAHA

She’s all yours RAB. Have fun. Know one thing and one thing that is undoubtedly FACT, she destroyed LOHUD (along with her psycho friend of course) is RAB next? Buckle up and prepare for the nightmare tag team duo. Good luck, you will all need it. That’s everyone’s fair warning. You are on your own from here.

      • Chase Chasely

Please don’t share ANY public info of any kind with trisha. Don’t enter any contests IT promotes. She/he/IT is catfisher. Human garbage. They want to get your info and then harass you and your loved ones. It was banned from Lohud. It was also run off the Daily News board. I thought Mike had banned IT. He will eventually. IT is not a Yankee fan. I know all this because my extended family was harassed and all of my social media accounts were hacked. I left LoHud long ago because of IT. I can’t even use my regular RAB name because they’ll figure out it’s me and start the attack again on my family again. Try explaining to your extended family that because you posted something on a Yankee message board they are being called at work and in the middle of the night. Be careful RAB followers and be prepared to watch IT attempt to take over your message board. And don’t believe IT is a woman. What happened on LoHud was a lot of lonely middle aged men supported this creep and empowered it. I think they all thought they had a chance with IT. Breaks my heart to see IT here now. Chad set a plague on RAB.

  • Yankeefan91

Jackie Bradley jr Thong just showed after that swing and miss that was filthy lol

  • nycsportzfan

And yet another HIT for the future HOF’er.

  • TheRealGreg

    Still shocked they kept Koji

  • nycsportzfan

Ells needs a day off. I’d give em the David Price game off, unless he rakes against him.

    • TheRealGreg

.313 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

I would start him that game

  • ScottinSJ

I know they have to protect DB, but I would much rather see him finish off the 9th.

  • Pat M.

And Jeter bust it down the line looking like Carl Lewis compared to Cano. Reference to the Beltran reference earlier

    • Tar

Compared to a lot of players… not just Cano.

Busting it down the line… on an almost sure out is really overrated.

But Jeter looks cool doing it.

    • Need Pitching and Hitting

Cano ran hard when he thought he could beat it out.
It was the routine grounders he dogged it on.

      • Tar

I agree. But I think it was more out of frustration than anything else.

Lazy is not even in the equation….but thats exactly where everybody goes with it.

  • trisha

I love Jeter and all and there is no questioning what an amazing player he has been, but when you compare players from the modern era with those who didn’t have 162 game seasons or all the modern conveniences, stats of the art training facilities, and state of the art rehab methodologies, it doesn’t seem like an apt comparison at all. Bottom line numbers are what they are, but I would submit that Jeter’s hits have had a lot more help, if you will, than those of Honus Wagner.

    • Yankee Fan 1

Honus wagner didn’t have to play against minorities. He also didn’t have to face speciality relief pitchers. You can go both ways with this.

      • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

        Another huge point

    • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

A lot of things you’re completely not taking into account. Like how errors were rarely ever properly assigned back then. A lot of hits were not actually “hits” in the aughts, ’10s and 20s.

There were also a hell of a lot more rag-arms back then. And even if there weren’t a rag arm on the mound, you were seeing the same pitcher 4 times a game instead of a specialist.

They even out considering the differences between eras.

      • Yankee Fan 1

        Well said, Cuso.

    • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

There’s a reason there were a lot more “.350 – .370″ hitters back at the turn of the 20th century. And it’s not because they were ALL better.

      • Yankee Fan 1

Yup. It amazes me how some people don’t understand this

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

May I suggest the book ‘the glory of their times’ by Lawrence Ritter.
But that said, Honus played during the segregated days. HUGE talent gap compared to today.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Seriously, don’t let Ortiz come to the plate D-Rob

  • Captain Clutch

    Come on Robertson!

  • SweetSpot

Crap Robertson drives me nuts sometimes.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

See, on Ellsbury’s double play, there was absolute silence on the play until the ball hit Napoli’s glove at first, and then they just said, “And the Red Sox will turn it.” When the same thing happens on a good play for the Yankees, we see it as anti-Yankee bias. But really it’s just complete apathy for the game they’re calling and general shittiness as announcers.

And I’m not even saying they’re not biased against the Yankees. Just that most of what seems like bias is really just because they suck at their jobs.

    • Pete22

They are already deflated because the Red Sox are losing. If the Red Sox were leading there would have been far more excitement about the DP

    • forensic

      I agree they suck.

I disagree that that’s all that’s at work there.

      • TheRealGreg

I also think they go with the crowd.

        • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

In this case the crowd was pretty excited and loud on the play, including as it was developing.

  • forensic

Come on, Robbie. How about a clean inning for the first time in a little while so you can avoid having to face Ortiz?

    • TheRealGreg

Nope and on 4 pitches too.

  • Captain Clutch

Great just what they didn’t need. Robertson has been very good but he puts too many guys on base and makes it a lot harder on himself.

  • Pete22

This will be the final game of a long stretch against last place and/or struggling teams. Tougher schedule ahead so glad they upgraded the lineup. Bummer news about Phelps but should not hurt too much if Pineda is ready soon

  • Rolling Doughnut

That’s it. wallk the leadoff guy. Oh ffsake DRob.

  • trisha

    Um, where was that pitch?

  • forensic

Ugh, just refuses to have a nice clean inning.

  • nycsportzfan

Looking at some of Dereks seasons and its just incredible.

    8x 200hits in a season.
    11x at least 190hits in a season
16x hit at least double digit HR’s in a season.
12x has hit 300BA or higher in a season..
    8x had at least 20sb or more in a season(had a 19 and 18SB season also)

    16x hes had at least a 350OBP(!!)

  • ScottinSJ

Robertson can’t walk the 9th place hitter. This doesn’t bode well.

  • forensic

    YES!!! What a break!

  • Need Pitching and Hitting

    Lol, thanks Sox.

    • forensic

      Satisfied with the remade defense?

      • Need Pitching and Hitting

        yep

        • Need Pitching and Hitting

Figure Jeter isn’t going anywhere, so this is about as good as it’s going to get.

  • ScottinSJ

    Yes. Big break!!

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

    Woof.

  • Pat M.

Folks in Boston need to get some sun, looking a little pasty…

  • Widget

Walking the garbage rookie catcher. Yeah this is going to end well. Fuck you ESPN Monday Morning Baseball.

  • Blake

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good……Mo used to catch breaks like that sometimes…..seems like the good ones somehow make good luck for themselves

  • TheRealGreg

He is determined to pitch to Ortiz

    • Pete22

Pedroia doing his best to make sure it does not happen

  • Pete22

Smurf swings at ball 4, the putz

  • ropeadope

    Hit and run FTW

  • trisha

    HA HA HA HA HA!

    A thing of beauty!

  • Captain Clutch

Yes!! Now get the smurf out.

  • Pat M.

Man Robertson is flirting with disaster pitching upstairs to the Smurff

  • MG

Friday night the Yankees smoked a bunch of shots right at the Sox; tonight it evens out, as it almost always does…

  • Captain Clutch

    Keep the ball away please…..

  • hogsmog

God DAMN it DRob. That is FRIGHTENING.

  • trisha

This is bullshit. At least one of those first 3 pitches was a strike.

    • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

There are cases to be made on the 2nd and 3rd ball. Of course, there is also a case to be made that Paul Schreiber is one of the worst underrated umpires in the majors.

  • ropeadope

    Exhale

  • Exiledintampa

A loud foul than game over.

  • Captain Clutch

    Yes!!! Nice win…

  • MG

    Whew….

Nice comeback win, 2 in a row in a tough park

  • Need Pitching and Hitting

    Nice comeback win.

    Never easy with this team.

  • nycsportzfan

nice play by derek to end it

  • SweetSpot

    Wow!

  • nycsportzfan

Wow, this inn by DROB is reminding me of Phil Coke when he was here. He would have dudes smack the ball against him but it seemed more often then not right at some one.lol DROB is getting behind in counts and gave up a rocket that turned into a DP(luckily).

I guess when your as good as DROB, you deserve some of these.lol

  • trisha

    Great game thread. Thanks gang!

    :)

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

And you got your name back.

    • RhapsodyInBlue

      Hey Trisha welcome back :)

  • Rolling Doughnut

Yankees…win…it. Palpable disappointment in the booth. Too bad. Sit down ratboy.

  • trisha

Please DRob. I really want to go to bed…

  • Lukasz

    Holy shit that scared me

    • forensic

Yup. Thought for sure that was gonna be beyond his fall-down range.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Robertson has missed by like a foot on several pitches now.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

    Jesus. Really?

    • Christ is King

Jesus is VERY real… haha, ok you set me up…

  • Christ is King

That last out made me a little nervous

    • Pete22

Pedroia swung at ball 4 and took the bat out of Ortiz hands representing the winning run. Dude is so over rated

Shaky outing by Drob that we will overlook for now

  • trisha

Don’t ya love the sounds of the fenway fools? Everything off the bat is a homerun. Idiots.

  • Macho Man “Randy Levine”

    Go fuck yourself, Elf.

    • CMed21

      +1 lol

    • CMed21

      +1 lol

    • Chip Rodriguez

I’ve always thought he was more goblin than elf. But the sentiment is the same.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

    Nice! Phew

  • Blake

Great play DJ….ball was scalded…..great win.

    • Tar

      He makes it look easy.

      Good night everyone

    • Chip Rodriguez

high pressure moment for a final, clinching out in a tough, close game – yeah, Drew’s good, Ryan’s amazing with his glove, but it’s reassuring to have Jeter there for that play.

  • forensic

    Thank you, Robbie!

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?

    Yankee Fucking Baseball.

Get well BGDP. We shock the world in Detroit this week.

    Good night and God bless.

    • Lukasz

“Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?”

9 out of 10 times when someone in my life has said that, it was in fact really really bad

      • ropeadope

Yup, especially the dentist after he drills right through the back of your neck.

    • ropeadope

      Games are in the Bronx.

  • Pete22

Good comeback win, back home to face a good team in Detroit. Hail Drew and the last of the Bombers, Brett Gardner

    • Hankflorida

He is truly the last of the Bronx Bombers in the outfield as Johnny Damon lives again in pinstripes, and now if only Ellsbury becomes Ricky Henderson, I would stop my rant on our loss of power.

  • TheRealGreg

I think that was their seventh series win in the last 9 series at Fenway.

  • UnKnown

Hey Yanks win. In a game that had umpires too. I swore that wasn’t possible. Or so I read… A miracle!! HAHA

Love this team right now. Let’s play the big boys from Detroit.

  • RhapsodyInBlue

    Brian Mitchell come on down.

  • bart

What a nail close game but Yankees prevailed again.
