Triple-A Scranton (7-2 loss to Norfolk)
- CF Mason Williams: 1-5, 2 K
- LF Ben Gamel: 2-5, 1 3B, 2 K — 23-for-67 (.343) in his last 17 games
- 2B Rob Refsnyder: 0-4, 2 K
- C Austin Romine: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B
- RF Tyler Austin: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — he’s going to start hitting at some point, right?
- RHP Luis Severino: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 4/4 GB/FB — 57 of 91 pitches were strikes (63%), plus he picked a runner off first … a little inefficient but not awful for his first career Triple-A start, especially since he’s roughly six years longer than the average International League player
- LHP Tyler Webb: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1/2 GB/FB — 22 of 27 pitches were strikes (81%)

- RHP Jose Ramirez: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 17 of 24 pitches were strikes (71%)

- CF Jake Cave: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K

- RHP Brady Lail: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 5/6 GB/FB — 31 of 51 pitches were strikes (61%) … he made this start on three days rest because his last outing was cut short after two-thirds of an inning due to rain
- RHP Kyle Haynes: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 7/1 GB/FB — 36 of 52 pitches were strikes (69%)

The Dominican Summer League season started yesterday, which means several of the Yankees’ top international signings made their pro debuts. I don’t update DSL stats daily — most of those kids never even make it to the U.S., it’s not worth the effort — but this is a special occasion, so here’s how a few of top international signees performed in their first pro game. Here are the DSL Yanks1 and DSL Yanks2 box scores.
- SS Wilkerman Garcia: 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI — signed for $1.35M last July
- LF Frederick Cuevas: 0-4, 1 K — signed for $300,000 last July
- SS Yonauris Rodriguez: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — signed for $550,000 back during the 2013-14 signing period … he hit .315/.435/.427 (154 wRC+) at this level last year
- LF Brayan Emery: 3-4, 3 R, 2 3B, 1 RBI — signed for $500,000 in November
- RF Juan DeLeon: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 K — signed for $2M last July and was arguably the best prospect the Yankees landed during their spending spree
- 1B Miguel Flames: 0-5, 3 K — signed for $1M last July as a catcher … not sure if the move to first is permanent, but it would be surprising to move him so soon, especially after giving him seven figures
Based on who didn’t play yesterday, it appears SS Dermis Garcia ($3.2M), 3B Nelson Gomez ($2.25M), and OF Jonathan Amundaray ($1.5M) will debut this year with the rookie Gulf Coast League Yankees. Gomez and Amundaray are on DSL rosters right now, but that doesn’t mean much. They can change in an instant. I assume big bonus prospects like them would have played on Opening Day. We’ll see.
