Prior to tonight’s series finale with the Rangers, the Yankees will honor and retire No. 51 for Bernie Williams with an on-field ceremony. I guess that makes it Bernie Williams night, not day. Whatever. Either way, this is a long time coming. Williams hasn’t played since 2006, but it wasn’t until last month that he officially signed his retirement papers.

Bernie was an integral part of the team’s most recent dynasty, though he often doesn’t get enough respect simply because Core Five doesn’t sound as cool as Core Four. He was as much a part of those late-1990s teams as Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, David Cone … anyone. In fact, Bernie was a Yankee long before all those guys, having been called up in 1991.

According to the Yankees, Jeter, Posada, O’Neill, Rivera, Tino, Cone, Willie Randolph, and Joe Torre will be among those in attendance for tonight’s ceremony, which is scheduled to start right around 7pm ET. You’ll be able to watch the entire thing on YES. I’m not sure if it’ll be broadcast online anywhere though.

Following the ceremony, the Yankees will wrap up their ugly series with Texas and try to avoid getting swept for the second straight series. If you’re looking for some good news, I can offer this: the Yankees are 3-0 and have outscored their opponents 28-13 in Sunday night games this year. Here is the Rangers’ lineup and here is the Yanks’ lineup:

  1. LF Brett Gardner
  2. 3B Chase Headley
  3. DH Alex Rodriguez
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. C Brian McCann
  6. RF Garrett Jones
  7. CF Chris Young
  8. SS Didi Gregorius
  9. 2B Jose Pirela
    LHP Chris Capuano

It’s a nice day in New York, a little cloudy but warm. Weather will be fine tonight. Tonight’s game will begin at 8pm ET and you catch watch on ESPN. Enjoy the Bernie ceremony and the game.

Roster Move: As expected, the Yankees have called up Jacob Lindgren from Triple-A. Branden Pinder was send down to clear a 25-man roster spot and Brendan Ryan (calf, hamstring) was transferred to the 60-day DL to clear a 40-man roster spot. Ryan’s already been on the DL for 50 days and isn’t close to returning, so the move to the 60-day doesn’t really change anything.

Injury Update: Masahiro Tanaka (wrist, forearm) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session this afternoon and felt great. He’s scheduled to make his second Triple-A rehab start on Wednesday … Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup with flu-like symptoms and could miss more than just today.

Considering that over 80 percent of PAa the ball does not clear the infield on the fly is promising

Currently in the land of Loria, but with #51 in spirit. Enjoy the game and festivities.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Maybe he’ll hire you as manager, you never know.

  • YankeesJunkie

I sort of hope it is bird flu for Beltran. Not like it would make him slower on the field.

  • Pete22

From 1996-2002 Bernie put up a 144 OPS+. That’s about what Arods career OPS+ is and better than Arods OPS+ of 141 with the Yankees.

    • Some Asshole

Peak versus the full 20 years (or the full Yankees tenure for Rodriguez), but he was still a force during his peak.

Cause Garrett Jones hit a homerun the other day, and…binder.

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

This binder thing… Not really digging it, like at all

        • Mike Ehrmantrout

          Slade > Binder

          For sure.

          • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Does the binder have some dirt on Joe?

            • Mike Ehrmantrout

It knows where the bodies are buried…it knows. As does Drew.

              • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Atleast Drew is not in the lineup.. But then we know who will be the PH if they need a left handed hitter.. Drew over Slade!

  • Alex Reddardriguez

The past is all we have right now, Mike. I get sick of people saying these late 90’s players don’t deserve these ceremonies. Bernie deserves it and we’ve got the kleenex out for this one.

Capuano has got to get through 6 with the lead and then they can set up Lindgren, Betances, Miller which is the best 7-8-9 in baseball. Doubt that will happen, though. I think they’ll get swept tonight and hopefully we’ll see some organizational changes.

Beltran could miss more than one game and not a god damn person cares one bit. We want to see Slade, someone who actually hustles and wants to be there.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

I was going to reply, but Aliens.

    • LazerTown

I’m glad we have kept our expectations for Lindgren in check.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Hahaha, that was actually funny by Eddard

Bern, baby, Bern! There are 14 chairs set up in front of the pitcher’s mound facing home plate; who are the other 6 chairs for?

I hope Bernie plays his bittersweet version of ‘Take me out to the ballgame’ on his guitar tonight. I would have liked to see Heathcott starting at CF on a night when we are honoring the great Bernabe. Go Lindgren! Go Pinstripes!

    (Creatures already chanting Bernie Williams)

Think I’d of stuck Heathcott in CF, and young in RF tonight. We need the win, G.Jones prob sits if it was up to me

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Young against a righty isn’t good

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I get getting Jones some ABs, he has showed some life lately

    • LazerTown

Jones should be in RF, but Slade should be the starter. Young is useless vs rhp.

      • nycsportzfan

Yeah, Even though Young has struggled recently, Jones has been butt most of the year. I have a gut feeling Young produces tonight

        • LazerTown

I dont. Young’s splits are ugly. He has no reason to be in there as a starter vs rhp.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Even in old age these guys could still give this current team a run for its money.

  • Jman1213

Jetes I love you, but button your shirt dude.

it’s like moving the chairs on the deck of the titanic. Take this guy out, put this guy in, here a little, there a little but nothing is going to change while we still have the nucleus of players we have. The lineup needs a real shakeup whether with prospects in the system or a few players from outside the system. And maybe that can’t happen until 2017 when these big contracts expire. In the meantime we just sit and complain and speculate and wait for the end of the season. Again, the old cliché, “The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.

    • LazerTown

When was the last time you said something positive?

          • http://yankeecanada.com/ Bob(bobby) M.

no not never. Certainly this year and probably on to 2017 when the big contracts are off the books. Then we need a radical rebuild in my opinion

    • Pete22

They are not doing the same thing over and over again, don’t you see?. Since Hal took over entirely after 2009, the Yankees started reducing payroll as a percentage of revenue by keeping it flat in nominal dollars. This allowed other teams to close the gap in payroll whose spending increased with their own revenues and thus negated the Yankees principal advantage. Current spending would be 50 million higher if the Yankees had continued to spend and keep up with payroll and revenue inflation. 50 million is 7 wins, and basically the difference between a playoff team and a team that golfs in October.

We had a Core 1 but we allowed him to leave over small change and go to that place out west where hitters die a slow death. Would have stayed young in pinstripes. Pettitte also left over money and Jeter threatened to, as did Mo and Bernie by entertaining Red Sox offers, but George came up with the dough for the latter 3.

Big Mike ,Tanaka and Betances could be Core 1-3. But a core surrounded by rotten flesh does not get the attention that a core surrounded by juicy flesh is. Without the surrounding cast, the Core 5 would not have their name

Me too; I especially wanted to see him in the Bronx after seeing him at 3 different minor league levels. Hopefully he gets into this game at some point.

      • Dalek Jeter

I can see him being a defensive replacement for Beltran later in the game (he goes to CF and Young to RF…we shall see.

        • CanoHeDidnt

Chances of that are extremely slim. No Beltran.

True Story. My son and I went to one of the Posada Encephalitus benefits about five years ago. Great time, my son got an autographed ball and a handshake from CC. Afterwards, waiting for our car, we saw Bernie and his entourage waiting for their own car across the lot. My son, who is naturally shy, walked up to Bernie to ask for an autograph. Bernie just looked at him and shook his head. Had nothing to do but stand there and wait but he couldn’t be bothered to sign a ball for a 12 year old. There’s that.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

I’m sure someone on here will defend him so I’ll do the opposite, but to not sign an autograph for a 12 year old, that’s pretty low…especially considering the circumstances. It’s one thing if they’re eating dinner or actually doing something, but standing there. Boo!

      • Some Asshole

I can’t speak to anything because I usually ignore celebrities and such, since I’m sure they need moments to themselves. I don’t live that life, so I don’t know how it seems from the other end.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

True, but it’s kinda bad when they do that to kids. It’s their hero’s whether it’s good or not

          • Some Asshole

Yeah, but again, I’m not in a position to judge. All of us on our bad days are gigantic assholes.

          • Elton Cod M.T.

Would somebody please think of the children?

            • Some Asshole

              Veal is tasty.

        • Jimmy

Look, I understand guys need a little time off every once in a while. But you can’t just look a kid in the eye and say no for an autograph. You’ve been gifted with a great talent that has made you an incredible amount of money. You are an idol in a kid’s eye. How in the world in your weakest moment do you say no?

        • Mike Ehrmantrout

I personally don’t ever approach anyone either, I ignore too… but a 12 year old. My wife was telling me a little 10 year old boy recognized a gal from basketball wife’s or love and hip hop or some reality show, shopping at her place of business and very nicely asked for an autograph and she proceeded to attempt and humiliate him, humiliating herself in the process. You’d think people would appreciate the people that helped make them rich.

          • Some Asshole

Probably, I wasn’t there, so I’ll take it at face value. If so, yeah, it’s bad PR if nothing else. I know many adults get jaded even if they’re playing a kid’s game.

    • Elton Cod M.T.

True story. Any time I am in Manhattan and I see someone waiting for a cab or their car, I stop and ask them for an autograph. “Why?”, they usually say. “Well, I am naturally shy, but it’s worth the chance that you’re a celebrity and I can sell your autograph for money”, I say. Then they tell me to fuck off.

      Spoiled bastards! Manhattan yuppies!

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

I think it would be tough to tell a 12 year old kid no to quickly sign a baseball. Might suck for Bernie, but could make that kid extremely happy and a wonderful memory for a lifetime.

        • Jimmy

Unfortunate. I was a huge Bernie fan. I fondly remember the guy hitting like .500 for a whole month in 98 or 99. A great Yankee. A rival to all my Dad’s center-field Yankees. But he really disappointed me that night.

        • Elton Cod M.T.

I bet it would be easy to tell a 12 year-old kid “no”.

    Trolololol!

    51-0.

    …hooray.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

And now the floodgates will open after that defensive miscue. Capuano is hurt and will give up 5 runs before exiting.

        • Joy Illimited

      • Dalek Jeter

No, they just showed the replay, definitely Pirela.

      • yankeefeminista

        Pirella. Totally off line

    • Dalek Jeter

      Yeah…what a terrible fuckin throw.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Didi has a rocket, he should be throwing those..

Bye, I can’t take those extra outs.. Our pitchers are having a hard enough time getting 3 outs

  • Dalek Jeter

Even a bad throw has Choo dead to rights.

    • CashmanNinja

Hard to tell since the camera angle was fucking awful

      • Dalek Jeter

It was, but it looked like he was releasing the ball as Choo was rounding 3rd. If that’s the case, anything that McCann doesn’t have to lay out for probably gets him.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Yup shoulda been out

        • CashmanNinja

I’ll give you that…at first I thought Choo ran through a stop sign.

I have been excited by watching people suck in many contexts.

    • CashmanNinja

But to be fair…both Pineda and CC looked great their first 2 innings also.

RAB time machine: PLEASE BRING UP PIRELA!!!!

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

Here ya go, show me where anyone (non first name only male only) has done so, most of us want Ref at second but have settled for anyone over Drew.

    • speedyjohn

Refsnyder doesn’t have Pirela’s versatility, though. That’s a big plus for a player who mostly comes off the bench.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Refsnyder is who we want starting not on the bench. Refsnyder would take Drew’s spot and Drew would take Pirela’s spot.

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

Drew has versatility, Ref plays everyday.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

Pirela has only played 2B so far. Not like it’s a big issue, especially since Drew would provide the versatility.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

So today its Beltre and Fielder who will be staring in the ESPN lovefest?

    • speedyjohn

To be fair, they actually deserve it.

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

To be even more fair, so did Joe Kelly a couple of weeks ago.. He does have some amazing stuff!

        • Some Asshole

    LET’S GO (NY) RANGERS!

  • Dalek Jeter

  • YankeesJunkie

    Thank you Gardner!!!

  • Pete Testa

    Nice catch, Gardner

  • vwnut13

    ……..

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Haha, well done

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Pirela made the error initially and had an easy chance to redeem that error and failed again >.>

    • ScottinSJ

So you’re a Drew fan then?

      • ACX

The entire infield minus tex has been less than advertised.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

As a backup IF? Yes. I’m a Refsnyder starting and Drew backup IF fan.

      • Some Asshole

There’s a reason he still has a place on this team.

This is simply an awful team in every respect right now. Unconscionable.

  • ACX

At least it looks like the offense will hit today.

  • Some Asshole

I feel like Gardner may have lost a step, but he’s still thinking he can take the extra bag. Seems to happen not completely infrequently for him.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Lame, Headley should have tried to go to 3rd! (Im kidding.. but feared that it would happen)

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

A-Rod hit No. 2975, 25 to go to 3000; 12 to reach Sam Rice for 29th.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      I can’t wait :DDD

  • Elton Cod M.T.

Let’s be honest: the baseball IQ test is racist and classist. Fuck the “Bell Curve”.

  • Pete Testa

hit a HR, teix, and i’ll forgive gardner for running into the first out.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Rare snap throw to 2nd

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    FALLACY

  • Pete22

WTF is Schilling talking about. For Babes entire career 4 balls were a walk? Right? It was much earlier in baseball that there were no walks

    • speedyjohn

There have been 4 balls in a walk since the 1870s.

    • Some Asshole

Confucius says: How can man walk with four balls?

      • chicken_stanley

Don’t know but I’ve struck out many times with 2 :)

  • ACX

Kruks sigh. I feel the same way.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    Fuck off Kruk..

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

    Crap luck alert.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Please do something McCann… Please…

  • Joy Illimited

That Gardner out is about to hurt I think.

  • Some Asshole

I hope Kruk and Schilling get into a massive slap fight that ends up with three city blocks destroyed.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

It would be over quicker than intercourse with me… They don’t have the stamina to get a good fight going

      • Some Asshole

        Short but intense. My style.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I feel you! Its gonna end up with her crying and feeling bad anyway, might aswell get it over with

          • Some Asshole

No, she just keeps reading her Facebook news on her phone.

      • Elton Cod M.T.

You can make him shoot that quickly?

  • Pete Testa

why the hell was their 1B so close to the line??

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

You must be new to shifts

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

I’d say shift, but that’s not likely given the base situation. No doubles defense mostly.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Shifts, positioning it’s all the same: should be taken out back and brutally murdered

        • Some Asshole

It’s a shift, but mostly to prevent a grounder from going into the outfield corner.

    • Too Many Idiots

Prince is close to every base.

      • Pete Testa

that dude was white… that’s Moreland, ain’t it?

        • vwnut13

          And not fat.

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

          Yes. Prince is DHing tonight.

        • Too Many Idiots

Hell, I forgot Prince is DHing now and wasn’t watching the play.

    • Dalek Jeter

Because a dead pull hitter was hitting with a runner at second blocking the runner at first.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    MACCCCCC

  • Dalek Jeter

    Did McCann..just??

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

    Go McCann.

  • YankeesJunkie

    Nice job McCann!

  • Joy Illimited

    Yessss I love being wrong

  • ScottinSJ

That’s McCann’s first productive AB in what seems weeks.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      EVER!!

  • Pete Testa

what’s this thing where we hit the ball with guys on and 2 outs? Keep doing that.

  • YankeesJunkie

Nice to get two runs on the miscue!

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

2 first inning runs alert! This is a loss already…

  • ACX

Nice to go with the pitch…

  • ScottinSJ

Gardner still gets no pass. He cost them a run — nearly more.

    • speedyjohn

      (Fallacy?)

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Do you ever just have fun?

      • Some Asshole

        This is the fun.

      • Deep Thoughts

What do you suppose these comments are.

      • ScottinSJ

Not in the past 10 days or so.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

I think this is more of a 2 month trend rather than 10 days.

          • Too Many Idiots

            2 year

          • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

2 year trend? I want the early 2013 season group back.

      • Deep Thoughts

        oh, bother.

  • CashmanNinja

Obviously this will be the only offense we’ll have the rest of the game.

  • Some Asshole

McCann going the other way is my baseball porn. I love it.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Didi is my baseball porn if we are being honest here

  • Dalek Jeter

    That’s your 2-1 swing Garrett?

  • Since_77

    McCann .188 on the road & .306 with a .633 slg% at Yankee Stadium

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

I would love a 35-28 MLB game. That would be funny in the statistics.

    • Dalek Jeter

      That would last…14 hours?

      • ACX

With new pace of play rules? Maybe 13.5

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          ietc

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

How many violations of Rule 7.13 to extend it?

          • ACX

            Several

      • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Yeah, probably, but that would be fun in my Bob Carpenter scorebook, I’d have WTFs running around.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

More like 45-4 with this offense and all the extra errors by Didi (29)

  • dave_8

I can’t believe Kruk doesn’t have plenty of gas.

    • vwnut13

You made the obvious joke that even the ESPN crew passed on.

      Down vote for you!

      • dave_8

        DaDaDa DaDaDa

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Hit a HR

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I hate a good first inning from the Yankees… Just builds up hope, but we all know that we won’t get out next run until the first inning tomorrow

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Better than 10 runs in the top of the 3rd.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

I need two homeruns and three more RBIs between Choo and McCann…cmon guys!

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Ugh, may have been a strike but that pitch frame was dreadful

  • Dalek Jeter

    Gallardo can get WILD

  • ACX

Its bernie night. They cannot embarrass themselves with the fab five in the building….

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Jeter probably left to grab some martinis with some chicks

      • Sccrkeepr34

Hannah’s horse says “shut your mouth”

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Hi Toby Basner strike zone. Go away Toby Basner strike zone.

  • ACX

Thought young was only there to face lefties….

    • vwnut13

      Young?

      • ACX

        I fixed it…

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

        He looks like a Davis..

        • Some Asshole

          I could use some Chili.

          • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Chili, New York? That’s about 45 minutes from me at the moment. :)

            • Some Asshole

              Yum…small towns.

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

      Beltran has the flu.

      • ACX

So? Jones is in rf. heathcott is the matchup.

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

        Slade doesn’t!

  • HoopDreams

Uh oh. Two runs in the 1st inning

    • ACX

So two more basrunners the rest of the game?

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

People will start saying that Joe should have learned from ealier, and pull his starter now, before its too late!

      • ACX

Maybe betances is good for 3-4 innings….. We can hope.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I bet he will get used qucikly and for a long time if they have a lead beyond the 5th inning.. They are desperate for a win

  • Sccrkeepr34

I missed the bernie festivities :sadpanda:

    • speedyjohn

MLB.com already has some highlights up, I’m guessing more will be coming.

  • argenys

Soooo how many times is Beltran getting the “Flu” or “Stomach Virus”?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Hopefully daily

    • Some Asshole

It’s the Spanish Influenza. Twenty million will die, but Beltran will start tomorrow.

    • ScottinSJ

The truth is he has an allergy . . . to baseballs hit to RF.

    • Pete22

Steroids (good and bad) suppress the immune system , he might take them to suppress inflammation in the elbow if it still bothers him. I always wonder at the high incidence of flu by ball players when I get the flu once every 15 years

  • Sccrkeepr34

My dad was born an raised in the bronx and was drafted by the yankees as a catcher out of brooklyn tech highschool in 1967 and choose to go to Mizzou to play football instead. Tore his acl before he got to school and transferred back home to Hofstra. He was then a security guard at both yankee stadium and for the mets while in college. After college he met my mom and moved to florida. I was born in 1976, been a yankee fan ever since. He took me to my first yankee game in NYC in 1987. He scalped some tickets, we sat in a first row box alongside 1st base. We stayed till the last out, which was a foul ball that mattingly went into the stands to catch, by me, his hat feel off and landed in my lap. He told me to keep it, he’s been my favorite Yankee ever since. Bernie williams and Derek Jeter made lasting impressions on me too and you tend to forget how good bernie was. Im glad the yankees are finally giving him his due.

    • Some Asshole

Nice memories there. I’m also amazed at how many folks here seem to have connections to BTHS.

  • HoopDreams

Oh cool. Apparently I was on TV?

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

      Let us see?

      • HoopDreams

Kid with a grey Yankees shirt with the logo smack dab in the middle

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Kid? I thought I was the youngest on this site at age 24.

          • HoopDreams

            21

            • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

              Newb.

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

He is the dude in Marlins gear behind homeplate (I would be ashamed to show my Yankee colors too)

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Doubt it, my TV would’ve probably shut off due to sheer sexiness.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Aren’t you in the second deck? Tough to be seen

        • HoopDreams

The short porch in right, yeah

          • Some Asshole

He’s the guy next to Captainmike’s brother, or whatever that was about.

  • vwnut13

Lindgren, Betances, Miller good for two innings each tonight?

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Lindgren, 8 inning MLB debut. Strikes out 24. YCPB.

      • Some Asshole

He’s kinda wild, though. He’ll strike out 26.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

ESPN blows, he’s still not available in fantasy

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

          Yeah really.

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

I’ve tried like 6 times today, good to know I won’t be getting him.

    • ACX

So quick hook if the third inning looks like the last two days?

    • Pete Testa

Was just saying this to my dad, can we get Capuano through this inning and 1 more?

    • speedyjohn

I dunno, Lindgren isn’t in the Circle of Trust™ yet.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    Chris KKapuano!

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Sucks we couldn’t see Hamilton this series, would’ve been fun

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

He would hit 6 home runs in a game.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

To see him go off on our pitching like it was the homerun derby?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Well considering we lost 15-4, I’d be okay with it

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

We were all kinda rooting for the Rangers to see how much they could score before they game would get censored!

    • dave_8

yeah, on the Yankees after we traded Beltran for him

    • Rolling Doughnut

      Would have been 20-4 yesterday.

      • Some Asshole

Fallacy. The Yankees might have mustered another fight and lost 20-6.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

God damnit, couldn’t grit that to your glove?

  • HoopDreams

    Adam Rosales, yup

  • vwnut13

    Trololololol!

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Really, a home run by Adam Rosales? There’s people you let go deep, this is not one.

  • ACX

Gardner could have played that better

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    FAN INTERFERENCE THAT SHIT!!

  • ScottinSJ

Well, it’s Adam Rosales. That’s just going to happen.

  • Cuso

    That was gone

  • Pete Testa

    Fuck you, Capuano.

  • Sccrkeepr34

adam rosales….are you kidding me the guy who couldnt keep a starting job in Oakland…

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

or Texas or Oaklnd or Texas or Oakland or Texas.

    • Some Asshole

Seriously. I had him for fodder in MLB 14 and he still sucked.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Trout catches that.

  • Errol

How does junkie josh Hamilton not get suspended for doing drugs

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

      Its a disease

    • speedyjohn

Loophole in the JDA. Can’t suspend him when he admitted his relapse himself.

      • Some Asshole

It’s also not performance enhancing; he basically suspended himself by being out this long in rehab.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    A slap hitting infielder…

  • Pete22

Man, he runs like Gardner used to run

  • BigBlueAL

Tanaka and Nova cant return soon enough.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    So, so bad…

  • ScottinSJ

Don’t you people just ever have fun?? Sourpusses.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      lol

  • Captain Clutch

Why did the Yankees sign Capuano?! I mean seriously what a waste of $5m.

    • Some Asshole

      CapCadaGate

      • Too Many Idiots

        Isn’t Drew investigating that?

        • Some Asshole

          Drew’s just getting jealous.

    • ACX

The stephen drew of the rotation.

    • Since_77

Never understood the logic behind that decision.

    • Sccrkeepr34

Hal always looking for a discount

  • CashmanNinja

    Well…that’s probably the game.

  • Nick

how is chris capuano even still in baseball?

    • Veteran presents

How did he get 5 million?????

      • Bo Knows

        He’s left-handed. If you are a lefty and have a pulse you’ll have a job….I still kick myself that I didn’t focus on pitching when I was a kid…

        • Some Asshole

GAHH!!! I tossed balls around left handed when I was real young but then started using my right hand for handball and shit. Nothing ever works out for me.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Not knocking the signing because he’s still an important player depth-wise, I’m surprised he actually managed to get $5m.

    • Cosmos Giannakakis

because the Yankees were the only team dumb enough to bring him back

    • frogbogg

He’s a life long red sox fan. Maybe operation sabotage?

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Get this POS out of there. Call up Mitchell tomorrow.

  • ACX

Man not even going to get to the third this time

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Surprised DeShields didn’t score on that, with the kind of speed he has

  • Alex Reddardriguez

With the $17 million we spent on Drew, Capuano and Brendan Ryan we could have gotten someone that is actually good.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Thats almost enough for one year of the great Rick Porcello!

      • Some Asshole

        True. Ace.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

“Ace” is an insult to a player of Porcello’s caliber.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I read an article about that Porcello was everything they expected, and that was written when he had a 4.50 ERA.. and they are paying him 20M a year for that

  • argenys

    The amazing Chris Crapuano everyone

  • ScottinSJ

Chris Capuano is a proven MLB pitcher. Stop your bitching.

    • Mustang

      LOL
You know how I always felt about the guy.

    • Some Asshole

You might even say he’s a professional.

    • Cosmos Giannakakis

Even a proven starter’s time eventually runs out. Capuano’s ran out a long time ago.

  • Mustang

Can someone please tell me why is Chris Capuano on this team?

    Average 5th starter my ass!!!!!!

    • Too Many Idiots

      To strike out Prince.

      • Mustang

You want bet where this is going to end?

Promise neither one of us will be happy

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

I still got love for Cap. He’s still in this.

    • Mark Castillo

Got his autograph at yesterdays game. He really is a nice guy. Posed for a picture after he signed my tickets.

  • Captain Clutch

I am glad that the yankees couldn’t afford Moncada but wasted $10 on Capuano and Drew. Having money is great but they waste too much of it.

  • ACX

    Big k

  • Joy Illimited

    Phew.

  • JacobyWanKenobi

I haven’t watched baseball in like a week

    • ScottinSJ

You’ve missed absolutely nothing. Trust me.

    • dave_8

We haven’t either. Not sure what this is called.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Didi hit two homers. Like, for real.

    • WT2

Then my friend, you are a very lucky man…

You have missed the return of “The Bad News Yankees” this past week…

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Tanaka and Nova can’t get back soon enough. We have one MLB caliber pitcher in our rotation right now. Two in the bullpen, three now with Lindgren.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Lindgren still hasn’t pitched.. Im all for the hype with him being our savior, but lets just see him pitch first

  • dkidd

if your team falls behind by a run in the second inning and your instinct is to type “that’s the game” you should just take a breath

    • vwnut13

Unless you are a Yankee fan.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

All of this negativity isn’t good for your health fellas. Relax and drink a cold one, it ain’t over till it’s over. Now sit back and chill.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Loooooooooooooopy swing

  • YankeesJunkie

    Good hustle double by Didi.

  • Pete Testa

You gotta stay down on balls – John Kruk

    • Cosmos Giannakakis

I’m sure Kruk knows all about staying down on balls…and the shaft too.

  • vwnut13

Was totally expecting him to get thrown out.

  • Bo Knows

    womp womp

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

I know that’s an error, BUT he smoked that and he put a nice swing on it

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

The haters will just call it luck, because he is swinging like a mad man

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Actually bad BABIP luck there/good error luck.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

Almost over Beltres head, who was playing even with the bag.

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

Lol, I thought u were being facetious about Pirelas bunt attempt

  • TheStraw

Perhaps Didi’s bat is heating up? Although a good 1B would have had that, it did have the drewaded “exit velocity”.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He hit a ball in Washington to the wall too.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Heating up? He was never cold! Haters gonna hate

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      this

    • Pete22

Hitting some rockets so I guess he is hot now.

  • Joy Illimited

“This has not been the best-executed game, so far.”

I don’t like agreeing with John Kruk.

  • vwnut13

That’s one fucking expensive trip for that little league team.

  • Pete Testa

    you gotta swing, kid.

  • Pete22

    Drew could have done that

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    At least Pirela hits…

  • CanoHeDidnt

    Way outside…

    • speedyjohn

      Juuuuust a bit outside!

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Will it be the same ESPN booth tomorrow?

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Not likely, but you never know.

    • vwnut13

      Tomorrow too? Awe man.

  • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

All Pirela had to do was be better than Brendan Ryan, but nope.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

But he hustles! Who needs fielding or hitting when you run out groundballs!

    • bernbabybern

      I’d rather have Pirela, still.

    • Centaur Hips

Should be a great opportunity for Nick Noonan… or not.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

What about that Korean import in Triple A?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

What about that Korean import in Triple A?

        • Mike Ehrmantrout

          He’s a real blue chipper.

        • Centaur Hips

          BUT THE ERRORZ!

          • Some Asshole

Errors are good! That’s why the Yankees have so many, right?

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Didi he just touched your butt, touch his head as payback!!!

  • argenys

Pirela isn’t good for more than a backup role

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Wouldn’t have guessed!

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Not even a good backup, since he isn’t good on defense

  • TheStraw

    Need a wild pitch now….

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Clutch Headley up…

  • TheStraw

    headley..sigh

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Way to waste a leadoff man on 2nd

  • speedyjohn

And we’ve found Curt Krukman’s crush du jour: Robinson Chirinos.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Fucking Didi didn’t even score from 2nd, fuck this kid, triple a is where he belongs

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Independent League.. He doesn’t even belong in the minors when he can’t score from second without any hits..

    • Some Asshole

      FEED HIM TO THE PIRANHAS!!!

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

Triple A? HA! Try Tampa or Trenton.

      • Some Asshole

        NEWARK BEARS!!

  • argenys

Schilling at least gives some insights once in a while. Kruk is a complete fucking baboon.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Can’t tell if troll or serious

      • argenys

Not saying schilling is good but compared to Kruk he’s fucking Vince Scully

        • Some Asshole

I imagine that Scully has gotten plenty in his time, but that’s not a nice image.

          • SuicidalMustacheMasher

            You win the internet!

          • argenys

            Lol

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Are we talking about the same schilling??

          • argenys

Are you trying to say Kruk is better?

    • TheStraw

And a fat one at that…

    • Centaur Hips

David Cone makes them both look like little leaguers that are out of shape.

      • argenys

True that. He’s my favorite guy on YES

  • Some Asshole

So the Raging Assholes are still holding on to 17th, thanks to the suckage of the rest of the bottom feeders.

    • Centaur Hips

I was this close to making an offer for Brad Miller. Oh well.

      • Some Asshole

I’m out of infielders now. Want some pitchers?

        • Centaur Hips

          I’m trying to trade pitchers.

          • Some Asshole

            I’ll take yet more pitchers.

            • Centaur Hips

Well I need infielders and maybe even a catcher or outfielder. Hoping for a utility guy I can play at different spots. Let me know if you have any offers. Check what I have on the trading block too.

              • Sir Didi Nakamura

Amarista’s is the dream for someone with a utility fetish

                • Centaur Hips

                  Nah need a better hitter.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Want Didi?

          • Some Asshole

            Kinda, actually.

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

              Like I’d trade him lol

              • Some Asshole

                NAKAMURA!!!! *shakes fist at sky*

  • vwnut13

Hey you guys, the Intermission Report is on! That’s got to be better than the Yankees.

  • Pete Testa

    so it’s the third inning… I’m scared.

  • speedyjohn

    Third inning… Brace yourselves.

  • Dalek Jeter

Did you guys see that slip? DAMN DIVOTS THE NYFBC IS TRYING TO KILL THE YANKEES

    • Centaur Hips

Wonder if that contributed to a few of the errors…

  • Pete Testa

Didi has a monster arm, he literally threw that off-balance after almost falling off his ass, and i’m gonna bet it was faster than capuano’s fastball.

    • Pete22

Love to see him try pitching mop up, but they would worry about his UCL.

  • Pete22

The IF is messed up from the soccer. Players said there were soft spots, and I have seen players lose their footing and slide several times now, and balls are not bouncing the way they should and staying low, causing missed GB and 1Bmen not scooping throws they usually make

    • WT2

Shhh… Don’t tell that to Hal… another way he shows how little he really cares about getting the competitive advantage and winning.
It’s all about profits for him. As long as the team keeps the profits at a decent pace he will not do much to upgrade the team in a meaningful way. Not like he could do much this past offseason though. It’s the only pass I give him.

  • Captain Clutch

Was Capuano supposed to be a solution?!

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

      No. Just depth.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He was supposed to be a stopgap.

    • Some Asshole

      A solution? THE solution!!!

    • Dalek Jeter

Only if the equation was “somebody on the roster who can go every 5th day.”

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    And so it begins…

  • ScottinSJ

6 hits already off Cap. Just avoid Rosales this inning.

  • Dalek Jeter

Complete lock? Beltre’s borderline, strong borderline, but complete lock to me means if he retired tomorrow he’d be in the HOF…he’s not at that point numbers wise yet.

  • TheStraw

Capuano is such a meatballer….Can’t wait to see Nova back.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nova after TJS scares the crap out of me. Command wasn’t exactly his strength to start with.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

Cap is setting the bar pretty low.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Lets not pretend like Nova was really that great either.. Plus he is coming back from TJS, so we can’t expect him to be an upgrade over Cap

      • TheStraw

At least he throws over 90.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

And has a lifetime 4.20 ERA and coming of huge surgery…

          • Some Asshole

            So, a Porcello acolyte? SWEET!!!

    • Centaur Hips

Nova might be their 5. Getting Tanaka is the best thing that can happen to them even more important than Ells IMO.

  • Some Asshole

Alright, let’s get Cool Capuano going. Stab this guy in the nose, then barbecue the next guy and get out of this inning. Surgical.

  • Since_77

Watching Capuano reminds me of when they use at run Chuck Cary out to the mound in 1990. He looked good warming up.

  • Dalek Jeter

    CAPUANO WOW

  • YankeesJunkie

    Nice play by Caps!

  • Pete Testa

    lol, eat that, henrik.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    TV went out?

  • bernbabybern

    Like a cat!

  • Dalek Jeter

Play so good it broke the broadcast?

    • Bo Knows

It was shocked Capuano did something good

  • YankeesJunkie

Yanks may a good play and somehow ESPN goes dark!

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Commercial, bullpen?

    • YankeesJunkie

      Bad feed.

    • Dalek Jeter

      No, NESPN lost the feed.

  • Some Asshole

Alright, you didn’t stab him in the nose, but you got the out. That’s also good.

  • Mustang

    LOL
    the man living on miracles

  • Some Asshole

Man, my feed is like 30 seconds or so late.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

The sheer stupidity in the booth broke the broadcast.

    • Mustang

With Capuano pitching it was a welcome break
      LOL

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

I kinda like Cap, his name ends with a vowel, my name ends with a vowel. He did well for us last year, just came off the DL still trying to get stretched out. He’s better than he gets credit for.

        • Mustang

Can i smoke some of the stuff you’re somking because it seems like real good shit.

        • Mustang

          LOL

  • Some Asshole

Why do I keep expecting him to get stabbed in the dick by a pencil? It never happens…

    • Centaur Hips

Why would anyone do that to a pencil?

  • Dalek Jeter

Through the dreaded 3rd without runs!!

    • Mustang

      LOL your not kidding
      LOL

  • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

A wild scoreless third inning has appeared.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Good thing we were playing the error Nuzlocke challenge where players that make errors get released into the wild.

  • Leftballer

    I could’ve sworn I just saw that commercial …

    • Some Asshole

      THIS IS SPORTSCENTER!!!!

  • Pete Testa

if that was a strike, my name is Optimus Fucking Prime.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

That was the worst call of the fucking night, that is the reason he struck out…had to protect against a bouncing called strike. Fuck these umps.

      • TheStraw

he never, ever gets that low pitch called a ball.

        • Mike Ehrmantrout

          Terrible call was terrible.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      *Checks Pete Testa’s birth certificate*

      “First Name: Optimus
      Middle Name: Fucking
      Last Name: Prime”

  • Dalek Jeter

I still think Bernie should play the National Anthem during Fab 5 days. (Hendrix style optional)

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Now Bernie’s going to be a big fat disgusting man with stupid opinions after he leaves that booth.

    • Dalek Jeter

Bernie’s way too cool for that shit.

    • BearNJ

      Was he morphed into Kruk?

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    Great strike call…

  • TheStraw

    Bernie Figueroa?

    • Some Asshole

Full name. Also he was a doctor in his country.

  • Dalek Jeter

Bernie Memories are some of the best memories.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Michael Kay is currently ranting about shifts and going the other way wherever he is

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Just lay down a bunt! They are giving you the hit!

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Okay, thanks for showing us the game ESPN, we know Kruk can’t button his top button and what Bernie looks like.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

I personally like it when they show us the booth. Some sexy males in there.

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

They shouldn’t show these lards again tonigh. Also, either they should all wear ties or none of them wear ties, it angers me to see such un-uniformity.

        • Some Asshole

I demand more naked men in barrels!!

  • Alex Reddardriguez

They won’t score another run all game. They got their 2 runs in the 1st and that’ll be all she wrote. Those late 90’s Yankees would be up 10-2 right now.

    • Pete22

Those were the days, no testing and a small strike zone, and pitchers who threw 2 mph less

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

That K-zone looks too small for him.. Don’t know if its just me

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

It’s the same K-Zone for every player

  • Dalek Jeter

July for Nova? They’re just making shit up.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I thought that was the plan for him

      • Dalek Jeter

        I thought mid June?

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Might take it slow

  • ScottinSJ

Update from MSG: Lightning just scored. 1 – 0. Rangers 0-for-4 on the powerplay.

    • TheStraw

Didn’t even get a shot on goal on the last PP…

  • vwnut13

Every time I switch to a hockey game there is a goal within a minute.

  • Errol

Would you trade drew for chase Utley if philly eats like most of his contract and retires John Kruk’s brain.

    • Elton Cod M.T.

John Kruk’s brain was retired shortly after he was born.

    • Dalek Jeter

How much longer is the contract?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

I was going to say no until I read the retiring Kruk’s brain part. Yes, immediately.

  • NYYFanFromThePhilippines

    Can we please win.

  • Mustang
    • Mustang

The Miracle on the baseball field.

  • TheStraw

finishing last 12 years in a row helps too, Schill….

Buster picks Sox, what a surprise.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

The Yankees WILL win this fucking game! I BELIEVE, and so should all of you! Knock this damn starter outta the game and tattoo these assholes! …FOR PRUSSIA!!!!

  • Dalek Jeter

It was only a matter of time before one of them mentioned the Red Sox as their favorite to win the division.

  • vwnut13

Buster Olney picking the Sox? ~color me surprised~

  • Cuso

Schilling just said the Rays have a strong player development system

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

And they still managed to talk about how great the Red Sox are…

  • ACX

Every week buster and ken change their opinion of who will win the east. Last week boston was done, now they are going to win. Yankees were the team to beat two weeks ago and now they are toast.

    • Pete22

With new data comes updated analysis.

      • ACX

Yes, but its the projections that are laughable. When they pick who will win the division.

    • Dalek Jeter

Yeah, they’re crazy reactionary. What else is new?

    • Deep Thoughts

Q: How do you keep a moron in suspense?

A: We’ll tell you next week!

    • Some Asshole

      TORONTO: Offseason champ-eens.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Is this game also on MLB.tv?

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Yeah, thats how im watching it

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Every game is

      • Dalek Jeter

        Unless you’re in market.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          CURSES!

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I’m watching on ESPN3.com because I have the hockey game on TV.

    • bernbabybern

ESPN Sunday night games are always blacked out for me. But now I’m watching from Singapore. ;)

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

I thought it was blacked out, thought I read someone mention Kay, who would be welcome over these morons in the booth.

  • Dalek Jeter

Ahh Stans. I haven’t been there in years.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

They don’t shift on Jones? But they do in MLB the Show…. Burning this fucking game.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I love getting shifted on in MLB the Show.. Its not that hard going the other way and getting a double

    • Dalek Jeter

I just realized today while playing the Orioles that your team doesn’t shift behind you anymore. Davis hit one right to where the shifted second baseman would be and I was like ‘WHERE IS MY SHIFT?!”

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        You gotta do it yourself

        • Dalek Jeter

          Yeah, learned the hard way.

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

They do shift against certain players

        • Dalek Jeter

Nope, in 15 you have to do it yourself.

          • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Nope, I got 15 and they still do it against a player like Ortiz, haven’t noticed the other players

            • Dalek Jeter

Weird, Davis is a dead pull hitter, you’d think they’d auto shift him.

              • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Adrian Gonzalez and Adam Lind also get shifted automaticly on

    • Some Asshole

To be fair, he has turned into teh suck since April. This may not be accounted for in the game.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    hooray for Young vs righties!

    • ACX

I heard a lot about how he only hits lefties, so why is he starting vs a righty?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        Because Heathcott is a rookie

        • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

He was a rookie against a few rightys his 1st 2 games too.

    • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

      thats crazy

  • Captain Clutch

Why is Young playing instead of Slade? I mean seriously.

    • vwnut13

      Circle of Trust.

(Does that apply for hitters too???)

      • Some Asshole

        Circle of … something.

      • Chris Stewart

        Yes.

    • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

      Why Pirela ver Drew?

  • Pete22

Young showing what he was with the Mets

    • bernbabybern

He shouldn’t be playing vs rhp.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

What is the hand the pitcher is throwing with currently?

  • ACX

Looked like they would be in the pen early, now looks like gallardo will go seven or eight

  • Pete22

Oh man, the offense has went off the clock early again. Yawn. Let Bernie hit

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Texas will put the final nail in the coffin next inning with the big bats coming up for the 3rd time against Capuano. Joe will have a late hook and it’ll be 6-2 before you know it. Offense won’t score another run after getting their 2 runs in the first inning.

    • wompwomp

in the year two thousanddddd….in the year two THOUSANDDDDD….

  • ScottinSJ

Calm down, we’ll take care of business against KC.

    • James piasecki

      lol

    • Alex Reddardriguez

HA! If Texas demolishes us I wonder what KC will do. I think we’re cooked. Tanaka , Ellsbury and Nova can’t get back soon enough.

  • Pete22

Caps pitched pretty well against a hot offense that hits LHP’ers well. How long it continues I can’t say

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Well to be fair, we made the offense hot..

  • James piasecki

And I free, free falling–but lets not change anything

  • vwnut13

Turning on the hockey game curse happened again.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Capuano…WINNER.

  • Dalek Jeter

Cap’s pretty slick with the glove for a pitcher.

  • ScottinSJ

Rangers give up a PP goal. 2 – 0 deficit. Not a good night.

  • bernbabybern

Capuano has decided to field all the balls himself.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Wouldn’t you do the same with that infield behind you?

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

Wasn’t that supposed to be the strength of this team?

  • ACX

Caps has at least limited the damage. You know though after he saw them score two in the first, that he would get no more run support…

  • ACX

    Now low change

  • Dalek Jeter

There was a bit of “loop” in that line drive.

  • ACX

    Man Prince is hitting everything.

  • Chris Stewart

Little known fact: JoeG consults me to figure out what to do next in bed, too.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Handle fail?

      • Chris Stewart

        No.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

      Sammy boy!!

    • Dalek Jeter

“Suck it Samwise” – Sterling Archer

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Please Lindgren tonight

  • ScottinSJ

8 hits now off of the amazing Cap. And goodnight, crappy lefty.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I wouldn’t call him crappy.. Only 3 runs and the defense didn’t really help him out.. Not horrible from your 5th starter

      • ScottinSJ

He couldn’t go 5, gave up 8 hits, is responsible for the men on base. Lousy, sorry.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

He could have gone 5 if Joe didn’t take him out. Two weak hits, and the Beltre hit was lucky and came on a good pitch. I think he should have gotten the chance to get out of the inning

          • ACX

We saw what leaving the starter in too long has done the last two days.

      • ACX

Would be nice to get more than 4.1 innings though…

  • ACX

Looked like lindgren was moving around in the pen too…..if we are going to be bad, at least let us see some new guys play

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

I’m just Chasin’ Shreve man…I wish Cap would’ve been given the chance to get out of that jam.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

“I wish Cap would’ve been given the chance to get out of that jam.”

Careful, you may just be beaten for saying that

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

I like Capuano, he’s better than 3/5th of the BoSox rotation.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          impossible

        • CanoHeDidnt

Who are the other 2? Did they clone Joe Kelly?

          • Some Asshole

Cy Miley and Cy Masterson. They’re all named Cy for some reason.

    • CanoHeDidnt

      Agreed

    • Dalek Jeter

Hahaha, are you new here? If Moreland comes through we’ll spend then next halfhour reading that Girardi’s hook wasn’t quick enough.

  • Mick the Quick

I remember fans calling for Joe Torre’s head if the Yankees didn’t win the World Series. Under Joe “The Loser” Girardi all we can hope for is that the Yanks stay relevant until preseason football begins.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah the last two years have definitely been Girardi’s fault.

      • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

If he would have rested them more, hey might not have as many injuries.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

The injuries are to the rotation, only Martin’s been injured out of the bullpen thus far

          • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

Talking the past 2 years , try to follow along.

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

Don’t remember so many injuries to bullpen arms these past 2 years either

              • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

                Please …pay attention.

                • Sir Didi Nakamura

                  explain then

              • Chris Stewart

Are you forgetting about al the time Mo and D-Rob spent on the DL?

                • Sir Didi Nakamura

Mo got hurt shagging fly balls, he doesn’t count towards anything Girardi did.

        • Some Asshole

Girardi doesn’t get tossed from as many games as he used to. Too much time on the field.

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

            Not enough fire anymore

            • Some Asshole

Someone needs to set him on fire.

            • Chris Stewart

              Stupid fire departments.

              • Some Asshole

The Bronx was burning for a reason! Because of passion! To WIN!!!

          • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

            I blame the replay.

      • Chris Stewart

Joe Girardi is the reason I lost my job. Twice.

        • Dalek Jeter

Still know it’s you, suck it Sam Wise.

    • Alex Reddardriguez

Torre was underrated. I never agreed with how they ran him out of town when they did. He should have retired a Yankee.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Pretty sure that was his last managerial job

        • Mike Ehrmantrout

          Dodgers

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

            right forgot thanks

            • Mike Ehrmantrout

It was forgettable, it was strange seeing him there though. I remember one game where he just kept their closer out there after the blown save for like 40 or 50 pitches against the Yanks. Joe being Joe, rock em till their arms fall off.

      • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

        The midges did him in.

    • blake

The Yankees have won more games than they should the last two years

  • Captain Clutch

The yankees are going to blow out every arm in the bullpen by July. The starting pitching really stinks.

    • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

Yet some here say we have it better than TB.

      • ScottinSJ

I honestly haven’t heard anyone say that. Lots of geniuses here, but no one that foolish.

        • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

          I can name a few but won’t.

          • Some Asshole

I will name myself. Name something Tampa has won.

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

I will join this brave asshole against Tampa as well.

              • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

I guess you’re not counting Cobb or Moore?

                • Sir Didi Nakamura

                  We have Tanaka and Pineda

                  • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

                    and…..?

                    • Sir Didi Nakamura

So seems like a near wash right there. What else do they have that we don’t?

                      Good night.

                    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Because starting pitching is the only part of the team, right? I’ve obviously conceded the pitching argument, now we move onto the hitting.

        • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

Scott-You can cross DidiLover off the list of fools for now, he concedes TB has the better pitching, now try to change Jorge’s mind.

I haven’t watched in weeks, waiting to binge watch. The way TV was supposed to be watched.

      • Dalek Jeter

Heathen. I love binge re-watching the season…but I don’t know how you handle going to bed on Sunday nights without knowing what happened on Thrones.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Watching Didi play… or something

      • levendis

I don’t know how u do that. I watched the leaked episodes all at once, which was great. But man it pained me having to wait weeks for a new episode. Can’t imagine how you can resist yourself from watching new episodes

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

Haven’t been as pumped for this season for some reason. Don’t know why. I need to rewatch every season.. I’ll probably do that before watching this season.

          • levendis

Maybe because last season was a bit of a let down. This season is a lot better though imo

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

  • Centaur Hips

Shreve has really been good so far. Not a bad candidate for the circle.

  • CanoHeDidnt

Talking about second basemen I just looked up Cano’s numbers this year. Yikes…

    • NYYFanFromThePhilippines

      Yikes indeed.

    • YankeesJunkie

He was a great Yankee, glad for him he got 10/240, glad the Yankees did not match. Fond memories, first player that I really got to see for their entire prime starting from day 1.

    • James piasecki

Really strange too, because he has more protection this year than even last year with Cruz

      • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Example No. 38,457,518 that “protection” doesn’t matter.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

I’ll wait until No. 38,457,536 before making a decision.

          • NYYFanFromThePhilippines

            Still a small sample size.

          • WT2

I tend to disagree with Mike about that, but I have no way to prove it.
From what I have seen, when you have good protection you tend to see more FBs and/or mistake pitches.
I am sure there should some research regarding that topic. Hell maybe Cano is not used to having good protection since he didn’t have good protection since 2011 /wink

        • James piasecki

Agreed but I assumed he wouldn’t chase out of the zone this year as teams pitched around him last year. Hard to imagine him just falling off a cliff. Been kind of quiet about it too haven’t heard much said other than here

  • ScottinSJ

Can’t blame Shreve for pitching carefully to Rosales.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          May 21st, 22 pitches.

  • Pete22

No wonder kids don’t play baseball anymore. Watching grass grow is more fun than an MLB game most days. Only thing the game has going for it is the numbers.

  • BigBlueAL

Why Wison instead of Lindgren?? Wouldnt this be a perfect time to let Lindgren make his MLB debut??

    • Pete22

This is the guy who preferred to use Joba instead of Betances in Sep 2013 when they still had a shot and the pen was crumbling, and has Slade on the bench playing Young and Jones instead

  • Captain Clutch

Maybe the guys who came for Bernie’s ceremony want to get into the game? #2, #20 and #46. Unless they had enough of this crap and left already.

  • YankeesJunkie

Jason Stephen Lindgren out Lord and Savior only pitches 7th and beyond.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Joe needs to get himself tossed to at least give the appearance of trying to fire up his ballclub. Somebody needs to do something. It was times like these where Bernie, Jorgie, Paulie, Jete would get a big hit to get things going.

              • Chris Stewart

I switched to Steve Pearce for a Girardi joke, then Chris Stewart for a slightly different Girardi joke. I can barely remember. Memorial day weekend, you know.

I really missed the times the Yankees used to have OBP guys with a good hitting approach. It seems now they have Ells, Gardner, AROD & Tex (sometimes) and that’s about it.
The rest of the hitters are hacking there. They don’t even care of the opposing pitcher has thrown 2-3 pitches in one inning, they still try to hit the next first pitch.

    • bernbabybern

Young gets that if he doesn’t misplay it.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Yum

  • Jman1213

Kinda silly how Girardi talked about how they need length from Capuano and then pulls him in the fifth after 80-some pitches.

  • vwnut13

This shit show is fucking great.

  • nycsportzfan

3-1 count and McCann does what he does, rolls over a pitch that should been swatted hard somewhere

  • levendis

Is lindgren with the club today?

  • TheStraw

    Throw that binder away, Joe.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

And that’ll be the ballgame. 4 runs is insurmountable when you can only score 2 in the first. It’s insurmountable when your best player is a 40 year old DH.

    • vwnut13

Is my game like, really delayed?

      Its 4-2…

  • CashmanNinja

This is just an awful team. There’s no way around it. And let’s throw a wild pitch in there for good measure!!

  • Some Asshole

This is when you punch DeShields in the mouth, then tag him for an out. Get to it, Gritley.

    • Some Asshole

      Or not. Whatevs…

    • Dalek Jeter

      MLB Blitz?

      • Some Asshole

        The Bron-X baseball

  • ScottinSJ

This is simply a very bad team. What a fucking joke.

    • James piasecki

Yep–but nothing will change Drew will be out there tomorrow

  • SweetSpot

Sign Bernie and Posada to a one day contract. Couldn’t be any worse.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

At this pace we will see Lindgren in the 9th! So lighten up!

    • vwnut13

And George Steinbrenner will come back from the dead and fire Girardi!

      • Some Asshole

        He’s dead!?

  • Captain Clutch

Slade should be in the lineup everyday so we can see what he can do. Putting Young out there because he is a veteran is ridiculous..

  • I’m Bill White

At least they dont have to worry about retiring any more numbers with this group.

    • James piasecki

      LOL–True except maybe Drews

  • Jman1213

Exactly what is Rothchild going to say to Wilson? “Stop sucking, would ya?”

    • CashmanNinja

“Don’t make me go all Dave Eiland on you and punch you in the eye.”

  • WT2

Well it seems that’s it. Hopefully they make a comeback but their hitting approach leave a lot to be desired.
On a good not note, maybe this forces Hal to show up his face, and explain how great the team is if they play to their “potential”.
The teams does seems familiar to the one the last few years, they lose as many games as they win…. hence a .500 team

    • James piasecki

Team is what it is at best a .500 team

    • WT2

I would love for people to start booing Hal everywhere he goes as much as they boo the players.
That would make it all worth it to me at least, since I blame Hal more than the players and/or GM decisions, since those decisions are made because of his desired to be cheap or go below the cap.

  • Supernova

Get home just in time to see Wilson get lit up. Great end to an otherwise amazing day.

  • TheStraw

    Wilson….circle of trust……

  • Alex Reddardriguez

No rotation, no bullpen, no offense. The hot start was clearly a mirage and the team is right back to where it should be, 500. They really only have 2 starters, 4 hitters and 2 relievers and that’s when they’re fully healthy. Those players carried the team for a while but that was not sustainable.

  • CashmanNinja

Hey guys, I have a great idea. How about we keep the reliever in who has let back to back rocket line drives and let him face red hot Prince Fielder. Genius, no?!

    • Some Asshole
    • bernbabybern

Yeah, I agree, if you are going to bring in Betances then it was at least one batter too late.

      • WT2

Girardi has made some bonehead bullpen decisions this past few weeks.
It’s like he is having a bad streak that started in Tampa’s last series.
I haven’t seen him making so many weird decisions in years.

  • SweetSpot

Wow. Our pen aside from Miller and Betances is just awful.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Wilson out of the Circle of Trust™ perhaps Lindgren to come in?

  • ScottinSJ

Cashman, look at what thou hath wrought.

  • TheStraw

and now let’s waste Betances. Great managing, Joey Binder.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

He’s pitched like twice in 12 games

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Hasn’t pitched in 5 days. Twice since May 13.

Miller 3 times since May 13.

      • TheStraw

Then why not bring him in two batters earlier? oh wait, Lefty-righty overrules talent.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

Can’t redeem yourself on this one, sorry buddy

          • TheStraw

Whatever you say. My point is use him in high pressure situsations, not when you’re three runs down.

    • Jman1213

Dude, he’s barely pitched lately. If the Yanks wait until they get a late lead to use him, he might not pitch until June.

      • TheStraw

He should have been pitching to Choo.

        • SuicidalMustacheMasher

          Choo is horrible against lefties

          • TheStraw

So then let him hit against a mediocre lefty rather than a guy with a 0.00 ERA. Genius.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Why pitch to Fielder there? He is on a Harper like hot streak, so just pitch around him and let Dellin come in and get them

  • Jman1213

Good Lord, I could’ve clobbered that one.

  • Veteran presents

This bullpen has been such a let down (outside of the twin towers)

  • BearNJ

Next time we score two in the first inning I’m going to just chalk it up as a loss and spend more time with the family.

    • Veteran presents

      Seriously.

  • nycsportzfan

Yeah this pen doesn’t need Ty Clippard. Pfft, Wilson sucks!

  • Centaur Hips

I remember when this team could pitch and play defense… wait…

  • BigBlueAL

I would say hopefully this series would force them to make some roster changes but considering there is a lack of accountability with this franchise it will be the same old crap we’ve watched the past 2 years continue throughout this summer.

    • James piasecki

Exactly–Drew has another 2 months, the bullpen built by Cashman is garbage except the 2 big guys and the DIDI trade and Drew signing are atrocious at this point. Don’t forget Jones and Ryan who have done next to nothing.

  • James piasecki

Don’t worry nothing will change, Blah, Blah we have to play through it, we hit balls hard–Drew and the like are back out there tomorrow

    • Some Asshole

Didn’t you have a different account?

      • James piasecki

        No but thanks for asking

      • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I think its that Jim guy..

      • DeutschlandNY

Another alias brought to you by BGT.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Thanks, BGT!

  • Alex Reddardriguez

It’s time to turn this shit off and go watch Game of Thrones and Veep. Enjoy tomorrow outdoors with friends and family and don’t tune into the 3rd year in a row of this crap. Joe won’t even play Lindgren and Slade to build for the future.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

I’m starting to agree. Which means it’s past my bedtime.

  • BigBlueAL

    Betances is in now?? WTF??

    • vwnut13

Hasn’t had a reason to be in a game in like two weeks, so…

      • BigBlueAL

If you were willing to use Betances this inning then start the inning
with him not bring him in when they have scored 2 runs already.

        • TheStraw

          this.

  • vwnut13

Prince was hitting 450ft bombs at that age, not using a plastic bat.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Bernie’s probably saying, can they unretire my number? What a disgrace on his special day.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

I’m annoyed that I’m too lazy to get up and leave right now…

  • ScottinSJ

They’re not even competitive right now. Maybe Texas isn’t a bad team, but they’re not good. The ever-consistent Eovaldi will be a nice snack for the Royals tomorrow.

    • Pete22

Rangers have been a 600 team in May

      • ScottinSJ

Great factoid; I feel much better now about them sweeping us.

        • James piasecki

Didn’t just sweep us, took us outside and beat us with our own switch

  • Bo Knows

Only one of Prince’s son’s appears to have the old Fielder, body.

    • vwnut13

Other one looks like he has a different daddy.

  • Austinmac

The youth movement is not going too well tonight.

  • TripleShortOfACycle

Wasn’t the excuse on here that they were playing tough teams?

    • James piasecki

Yes and that it was okay they were still in first place.

    • Alex Reddardriguez

Yes, and they were on the road. Now they are playing at home and getting destroyed. They are a .500 club, no better.

      • James piasecki

Exactly–team is not very good but will stay around .500 in a weak East. A normal year you are looking at at 70 win team

  • Jman1213

This is why fans want Warren to go back to the bullpen. Because right now, it’s Betances, Miller, and cross your fingers.

    • BigBlueAL

Problem is Warren is arguably the 2nd best SP on the team right now.

    • Alex Reddardriguez

But they don’t have enough starters. Capuano shouldn’t be starting. CC is bad, Eovaldi is bad. They need Tanaka and Nova back before they can consider Warren to the pen.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

This Betances kid is good at baseball.

    • Pete22

No K’s. I am worried, he might be hurt

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

He looks different when he starts an inning clean and comes in mid-inning, IMO.

  • HoopDreams

Most exciting thing so far was the subway race on the jumbotron

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Did you choose the winning train?

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

CC’s son gonna have bad knees in a couple years

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    lol wow Choo

    • CashmanNinja

      Very Beltranian defense there

      • ScottinSJ

        Nothing is quite that bad.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

Now Didi will hit a HR and they’ll lose 5-4.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      I wouldn’t mind

      • ScottinSJ

So as long as your lover homers, it’s fine. Even if they lose. Got it.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

Well considering they’ll probably lose anyway, why not have bae homer as well?

          • DeutschlandNY

            True dat.

  • TheStraw

A two hit night for Jones?

    • Hankflorida

One to left and one to right!

    • CashmanNinja

To be fair…there should be an an asterisk because of Choo’s “defense”

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    Choo is the Korean Beltran

    • Veteran presents

      He’s Korean

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      Korean

  • Jman1213

    A baserunner. Hallelujah!

    • James piasecki

      small steps for this offense

      • CashmanNinja

2 steps forward and 1 step back

        • vwnut13

          You got it backwards.

  • Mustang

I don’t understand why people are so upset one look at the starting pitcher and one knew where is game was headed.
Can’t keep living of the pen than expect them to pitch most of a game every 5 days.
    It is what it is.

    • James piasecki

Especially when that part of the pen is not very good at the moment

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

I remember a game last year and the opposing team was spraying that shit on the pitchers arm. Nothing happened, no one complained. Yankees got dominated. (The last part just fits the narrative)

    • James piasecki

      wasn’t it bucholz

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

        I think so?

  • Veteran presents

    Young sucks now.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      VS RIGHTIES

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

        Where is Slade? SLADE!!!!

        • James piasecki

He is not 30 so he can’t play

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

            funni

    • WhittakerWalt

This is Chris Young. You ride him until he’s hot, then he’ll stink. You have to figure it out when that happens.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

not hard to expect when they play him vs righties. He’s a platoon bat, nothing more.

  • Dalek Jeter

Where was this discussion about having a commonly accepted substance for pitchers last year? All I remember is “HE BROKE TEH RULE”

    • speedyjohn

There was this discussion last year, too.

  • TheStraw

    Offense is lost without Ellsbury.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    YAY STEPHEN DROO!!!!!!

  • disqus_8E66WIUyso

Should tie cashman on a chair. Put TV on and make him watch this.

  • Jman1213

Schilling said some pitchers put Vaseline in their mouths. That sounds tasty.

    • vwnut13

      Kruk pitched a tent.

    • Veteran presents

Only God knows what Schilling puts in his mouth.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    DOO-DOO TIME!

  • Dalek Jeter

    Stephen Drew sighting.

  • vwnut13

Stephen Drew needs some illegal substances.

  • Dalek Jeter

    Chill Beltre.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

So PH Drew but not do the same with Slade for Young? Don’t get it.. I know that Young is the vet, but his role on this team is still platoon against lefties and good defense..

  • ScottinSJ

Drew has a good eye. He should donate it to someone who could benefit from the gift of sight.

    • Chris Stewart

Why doesn’t he just donate all of his organs? He’s a waste otherwise.

I bet his family would be sad for a minute, but then they would say, “Oh, finally, he did something, that hasn’t happened since 2013 or earlier.”

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Hall of fame type effort.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

What a great bench we have! The best pinch hitter we can send up there is Stephen Drew.

  • Pete22

    Beltre dives for blonds

    • Jman1213

That one in the blue’s pretty. I’d dive for her, too.

  • HoopDreams

Stupid fans attemping the wave fail

  • Jman1213

Boy, you know you stink when Stephen Drew is sent up to hit for you.

    • James piasecki

LOL–To be fair we have lots of those guys that you can interchange with each other

  • speedyjohn

Can some one tell me why Drew is pinch hitting instead of Beltran?

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

      Beltran is sick

      • speedyjohn

Oh yeah. It’s literally right in front of me.

    • Some Asshole

Strategy! See, he’ll be the relief pitcher.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I just saw Carp in the pen…

  • vwnut13

That dude in the stands. Nice hair dude.

  • disqus_8E66WIUyso

True Beltran to be put on waivers?

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Lol no.. Not after he has got hot

  • TheStraw

Can we just DFA Drew after the game. It would at least makew some fans feel better.

    • James piasecki

      Hit Velo

  • HoopDreams

And the fans begin to leave, embarrassing

    • bernbabybern

Can’t blame anyone for walking out on this.

      • James piasecki

Agreed, Half empty stadiums will be the norm for the summer if this doesn’t change. A boring team that is playing bad tends to do that. A young team that is struggling will at least draw fans for the intrigue of tomorrow

        • speedyjohn

I disagree. A bad team with former stars draws fans because they at least know the players.

          • James piasecki

Agree to disagree but I think we will see in the next month or so

        • DeutschlandNY

          Shut up BGT!

        • Dalek Jeter

Winter’s right, casuals show up for names, diehards showing up for prospects go to/ watch games regardless. Look at us.

    • Veteran presents

      It’s Drew’s fault.

    • Jman1213

      I don’t blame ’em.

  • Hankflorida

Pirela may be gone soon with Ref taking the big stage.

  • ScottinSJ

Just bad luck again, Pete, right? Why don’t you and Sir Didi meet somewhere for a beer? Neither one of you can identify a good ballplayer.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Lol? He’s hit the ball hard these past 3 games and he pops out and now you choose to say something? Where were you during the 2 HR’s? stfu

      • ScottinSJ

You are such a loser, I almost feel badly. Almost.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          lmao

    • Some Asshole

You look like you’re taking joy in this. I’m sure you’re not, but it is how it looks.

      • Dalek Jeter

I’m about 60% he is enjoying it.

        • SweetSpot

          88%

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

It’s funny because you just know they are rooting for Didi to fail just to say I told you so, it’s quite hilarious

        • ScottinSJ

Yeah, genius, I’m rooting against the Yankees.

          • SweetSpot

Thanks for admitting it – that’s the first step towards redemption.

          • Centaur Hips

Well you’re certainly the first to start complaining.

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

            Certainly seems like it, genius

          • Some Asshole

            Have you read your comments?

            • ScottinSJ

Because I call a spade a spade? And because I laugh at two commenters who, despite evidence to the contrary, continue to talk up two wretched infielders??

              • Some Asshole

                Have you read their comments?

    • SweetSpot

      Shut up BGT.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Why don’t you join the other trolls and their circle jerk? Neither of your can enjoy a Yankee game without hating on something..

    • Pete22

It was sharply hit but Drew has to stop pulling everything. Clocks running on him though, bad luck or not. Yankees might prefer a lesser player who is luckier. I think YS is bad for him. He had a better approach when he played at Fenway

      • Hankflorida

Many lefties like Boggs took advantage of the Green Monster. I wonder how many hits Drew got off it?

      • James piasecki

To be fair he has been bad for almost 2 seasons now.

    • Chris Stewart

you are an insult to my time zone.

  • Pete22

Carpenter in. White flag is raised

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Should get Lindgren in for his first outing, good time to get a debut.

    • vwnut13

He will be sent to AAA before he debuts.

      • James piasecki

I don’t doubt it, there is a road map of there moves like this in the past. Ramirez will probably be up. Saddens me that other teams make changes to better the team while this team just prays and hopes the likes of Drew improves.

  • HoopDreams

As soon as Carpenter came in, a flock of fans retreated. Highlight of the night

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

You sure it wasn’t a slow response to Drew?

    • vwnut13

      Oops.

    • vwnut13

      Aaaargh!

  • WhittakerWalt

In a big spot, our pinch hitter is Stephen Drew.
To quote Yoda, “that is why you fail.”

  • Some Asshole

Stephen Drew me a picture…of poop.

  • disqus_8E66WIUyso

    Crap. Crap.

  • SweetSpot

This may be the day Girardi loses it in the presser.

  • Centaur Hips

I know what I’m avoiding for the next few days.

  • Veteran presents

Did I just here Kruk snort. He really is a pig.

    • Pete22

At least we can’t smell his expirations from the bottom end

    • Chris Stewart

That’s actually what he calls himself on grindr

  • Basil

Probably too soon yet, but if this malaise continues, it’s the kind of situation that often leads to changes in managers, in the hope of a shakeup. Unfortunately, these don’t always work, but, nevertheless, there are times with an underperforming team–and the NYY are currently dogging it–that suspicion should fall on the manager, for failing to kick ass, or get people to kick ass for him–as in the old 1949 “red ass” Yankees, where policing was done by key players, including Keller and Henrich and sometimes Dimag.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Luckily I think management isn’t so stupid to do shake ups

      • Basil

No, management has been stupid enough the past ten years to put the team in a situation where it may need “shakeups.”

The failure to bring up Yankee-type players through the system and provide a Yankee esprit de corps has left them with far too many mercenaries, wandering free agents, pick-ups, etc. The Seligization of baseball, that leveling of the field, etc., has demanded that Yankees must turn their full intelligence (after first recovering it) and a good chunk of money to player development. In the 30s, their scouts could do what is less possible now: identify prospects as “Minor Leaguer,” “Major Leaguer,” and….Yankee. Well signing Mickey Mantle types ain’t so easy any more. There will always be a place for mercenaries and shrewd acquisitions of old timers with only a few bullets left in the magazine. But now they have to put seriously real dough into finding the best possible talent scounts and prospect development guys.

    • Hankflorida

Those teams did not need the kick ass approach!

      • Basil

Apparently they did, as told in that book by Halbertstam, The Summer of ’49. There’s a particularly good example of the the technique (“red ass” discipline, as from a dog biting your ass) as employed by Keller and others on Yogi (!) for not running out a ball. They played for World Series dough in those years, big money that could get the wife a coat, pay down the mortgage, send the kids to school, etc. It was a very tough team, not at all polite, and Casey could stand by and let his enforcers do the ass-biting.

  • disqus_8E66WIUyso

Why is young playing? Reverting to mets young.

    • Some Asshole

What? Folks were saying he should play more! What’s going on here!?

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

    Lets go Carp! Great start!

  • Captain Clutch

I wonder if Carpenter is injured. It is hard to believe that he could be this bad.

  • Dalek Jeter

Seriously though, it’s the 8th inning…where is the defensive replacement of Slade to go with Drew?

  • Jman1213

Wow, a leadoff double. Anyone else shocked?

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Shocked it wasn’t a homer, and he did manage to throw 5 pitches before he allowed a hit

  • argenys

I know they don’t really have an effect, but at what point do you have that team meeting where you foam at the mouth?

    • DeutschlandNY

      When a buffet appears?

    • ScottinSJ

How do you know it didn’t already occur this weekend?

    • Veteran presents

Don’t matter, those meetings don’t usually work anyways. Not with this team at least.

  • HoopDreams

Why would you bail out a medicore reliever like that lol

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I don’t get that play at all, but I will take it!

      • vwnut13

Seems like something the Yankees would do…

        • James piasecki

There has been times I thought they might do it this year.

    • Jman1213

      Exactly. That’s just bad managing.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

    Pretty brazen right there.

  • WhittakerWalt

Thank you for the free outs!

  • Jman1213

Really? A suicide squeeze with the way Carpenter’s pitching?

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    FALLACY

  • Veteran presents

He should change his name to Crapenter.

    • Centaur Hips

You can’t have a Crapuano and a Crapenter. Make your choice.

      • Chris Stewart

You can, actually, because the originating syllables for ‘crap’ (‘cap’ for capuano, ‘carp’ for carpenter), differ.

      • Veteran presents

        But we also have Doo-Doo

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I don’t get why any team would bunt on Carp with the way he has been pitching.. They are trying to bail him out

    • James piasecki

      They feel sorry for him?

    • Pete22

They have a plane to catch

  • Cuso

The arm is still good. Location is terrible.

    • James piasecki

Too bad he doesn’t have an option, I am not sure they can have him in the pen like this with everyone else crapping the bed too

  • Joy Illimited

Lindgren for the 9th if we’re still down?

    • 518forever

Nahh better let carp back out there. He is mowin em down!

    • Pete22

Hope not, I still need more points from Fielder and Choo to increase my winnings tonight

  • disqus_8E66WIUyso

    Wow. A scoreless carp inning

  • HoopDreams

Can they platoon Slade and Young please? He also failed to make a catch that Slade most likely would

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I don’t think we can assume Slade catches that.

      • Dalek Jeter

        He would’ve had a shot.

        • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

          So did Young.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Young is pretty good in CF, so not sure Slade would be a defensive upgrade

  • WhittakerWalt

Somehow we actually don’t give up any runs?
Now if we had an actual offense we’d still be in this game.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Rally time folks…its do it to it time. Lock your wives and/or husbands up and get down and dirty…

  • vwnut13

Shit, my #RepMyTeam didn’t make it.

  • Jman1213

Welcome back, Ross. Now THAT is a windup.

  • Centaur Hips

Shit didn’t realize they have given up 4.47 R/G and have a 0 run differential. Pitching has really under-performed ERA wise and so has the defense.

    • James piasecki

last 12 games or so really took a beating on both. We were 3rd or so in ERA and Run differential just over a week ago

    • Pete22

Starter ERA is 11th in the AL

    • Hankflorida

Most of us before the season began thought that the Bronx Bombers would not be back and thought that the starting pitching and the pen was the key to winning.

  • Pete22

Speaking of which, has Joe ever formally announced Miller is his closer?. Not that its needed.

  • Dalek Jeter

Heck of an AB by Headley.

  • Jman1213

A single! Come on, everybody! Rally! Rally! Rally!

  • vwnut13

    Lindy up yet?

  • Dalek Jeter

Alex, stop swinging at that shit at your Ankles.

  • ScottinSJ

    A walk and then Tex?

  • Dalek Jeter

Good hard slide by Chase keeping Alex out of the DP.

  • Pete22

    Nice hustle by Arod

  • Veteran presents

Rosales doesn’t even step on second on the relay

    • vwnut13

      Neighborhood!

    • James piasecki

They let the middle infielders do that alot to protect from knee injuries etc

      • Veteran presents

Garbage! What is this? The NFL???

        • James piasecki

not saying I agree but thats there reason

  • Pete22

    Strike 3 there, thanks ump

    • dalelama

      Big break for sure

    • bernbabybern

Not often going to get a call on that pitch.

  • dalelama

    That was a strike..,some luck

    • YankeesJunkie

That was a good pitch but looked outside when hit the pitchers mitt, still lucky.

    • Veteran presents

It’s only luck if we actually score.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

McCann just hit a fucking homer

    • Veteran presents

      He did?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        Bad punctuation my bad

    • Dalek Jeter

Fuck that…just get on base vs a LHP would be enough.

      • Dalek Jeter

Then hopefully Beltran is healthy enough to take 3 swings..if he gets on PH with Slade.

      • CashmanNinja

I’ll settle with anything productive. Anything.

  • gageagainstthemachine

For the love of all that is right and good in this world….Let McCann pull one like there’s no fucking tomorrow!!

  • yanksinfirst

    Is lindgrin up??

  • dalelama

This team just has no heart.

    • ScottinSJ

I think they have heart. It’s talent and ability they lack.

      • dalelama

        That also.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Heart can’t make you hit homers

      • Hankflorida

But heart may make moving the line easier!

    • DeutschlandNY

They DON’T HAVE THE WILL TO WIN!!!

    • James piasecki

Its a badly constructed team. They built it on pitching mainly relief pitching and defense and both have been bad. It also doesn’t help that the management is too stubborn to relize some youth might help this team especially when the youth options might be better

      • dalelama

Their youth isn’t that great either.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

Carp better not pitch to Fielder.. That will just be mean

    • Pete22

Amazing watching 1Bmen like Teix, Prince, Howard come back from the dead this year

      • Dalek Jeter

Prince was all injury, the other two yeah…straight back from the dead.

  • Centaur Hips

Obviously this is all because of Moncada.

    • Squats F9er

      Most of it.

    • gageagainstthemachine

This calls for Tilapia’s Moncada walker pic.

  • gageagainstthemachine

    Well. Shit.

  • ScottinSJ

As bad as our offense is, the pitching staff has allowed 40 hits this series.

    • Pete22

Everything has been bad, the starting pitching, non-elite bullpen, defense, offense, baserunning, etc

      • ScottinSJ

Can’t argue. It’s one of the worst series they’ve played in a long time.

        • James piasecki

The last 3 series have been bad. Started with that Eovaldi game in TB, just seems it is a whole team thing including Girardi. His decision making has been as bad as the teams play

    • Dalek Jeter

Tonight it’s been bad, but going into tonight they’ve had a dead average 100wRC+, and they’ve been averaging 4.6 runs per game…during this losing skid it’s been very much the pitching Warren, Whitley, Capuano, Eovaldi, Sabathia, and even Pineda lately have all been mediocre to bad.

      • Centaur Hips

Fangraphs just had it at 4.47 RS/G.

But yeah the offense overall has been average as expected. Pitching has been all over the place.

        • James piasecki

Defense too and not just the errors

        • Dalek Jeter

Op yeah, I misread my calculator. It’s actually 4.465, surprised they don’t round that up to 4.47.

  • Veteran presents

Fielder’s success according to Kruk is being healthy and happy………

    • gageagainstthemachine

Kruk probably based his own success on pre-game hot dogs deep fried in chocolate and dipped in bacon fat and deep fried again in his own cholesterol.

  • Pete22

If McCann was hurt he probably should not have hit. Hope its not serious though

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

I love Miller and he also has to get some work in, but I still really hoped Lindgren would get in since it just feels like the game is over, and he would really get tested against Fielder and Beltre

    • James piasecki

I thought last inning was when they would get him in. I hope he doesn’t sit there for 3 days then get sent down

    • Pete22

Joe might want to avoid his 1st appearance being at home

  • Pete22

Jones might not be toast after all

  • Dalek Jeter

Did McCann get hurt or something during his AB or after putting the ball in play? Having Murphy back there made no sense.

    • Pete22

He was hurt earlier, no idea when, trainer came out to check on him when he was catching. Looked like a foot issue.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

our backup 1B is a better RF than our 15M a year starting RF

  • James piasecki

Anybody guess Girardi’s demeanor after this one. Team seems lifeless which after getting mauled yesterday surprises me

    • gageagainstthemachine

Cutting his wrists during post game interview?

      • Some Asshole

        But sideways just for attention.

  • dalelama

Jones, Young, and Dope Dope up next….a real Murderers Row

    • Pete22

3 HR the last 3 games

      • dalelama

Considering he only has 2 for the year I doubt it.

  • SweetSpot

Can you imagine if George was still around.

    • Centaur Hips

The extra bad contracts would be a nail in the coffin.

    • ScottinSJ

He’d be very old and likely senile.

  • ScottinSJ

Girardi’s playing the hand he was dealt. The dealer should be feeling some heat, but that’s probably just wishful thinking.

  • Dalek Jeter

    Does Slade have Beltran’s flu?

  • Veteran presents

    No Slade, No Lindgren, BOOOOO!!!!!!

    • Pete22

Joe knows you want them so he shows his power by not giving them to you . Sadist

  • Dalek Jeter

Well it’s officially Game of Thrones time.

  • James piasecki

    wow haven’t lost 6 in a row since 2011

    • Veteran presents

When did we last lose 10 in a row? It just may happen.

      • James piasecki

we are one CC win against KC from 11 loses in a row

  • ScottinSJ

2 hits off of Kela, Ohlendorf, Freeman and Tolleson.

  • Rolling Doughnut

two feet outside what a joke

  • SweetSpot

Yankee pitching gave up 30 runs this weekend.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

30, though that’s not much better.

      • SweetSpot

Typo I corrected it right away. You’re right – really poor pitching.

  • WhittakerWalt

This is who Chris Young is, guys.

    • SuicidalMustacheMasher

against righties yes.. Not against lefties

      • WhittakerWalt

I know, which is why he should never face righties.

  • Hankflorida

Tomorrow, the starting pitching has to stop the bleeding!

    • ScottinSJ

It’s Eovaldi against KC. Could be ugly.

  • 518forever

This kid must be cy youngs great great great grandson or something lol schillings talking him up on every fn pitch

  • Pete22

As bad as 2013 and 2014 were they never sunk this low for so long

    • James piasecki

We are one CC win against KC from 11 loses in a row

  • Veteran presents

Swept at home by the Rangers. Gross.

    • James piasecki

      Girardi “Not what you want”

      • Some Asshole

His understatements warm the cockles of my heart.

  • Rolling Doughnut

Just for fun he struck out the side.

  • ScottinSJ

Just bring up Refsnyder already. Can it really hurt? We have three garbage middle infielders. Roll the fucking dice.

    • James piasecki

He is not over 30 so no

      • 518forever

        Hahahaha

      • Some Asshole

Two of the three current middle infielders are under 30.

  • SuicidalMustacheMasher

So I thought this series was a great chance to start another run plus it ended with a sunday night baseball game, which started our last run, but no.. Next up is the Royals, so thats cool..

  • Deep Thoughts

    perspective.

  • Bret The Hitman

what the hell happened to this team

  • ScottinSJ

Well, we get Guthrie and Duffy the next two days. That’s actually a favorable draw vs. KC.

    • Some Asshole

Maybe I should pick up Guthrie for fantasy. That’ll wake up the Yankees.

  • SweetSpot

“Joe are you contemplating any changes?”
“What do you want me to do. This is who we have, they have to play better.”

    . . . ok then.

    • ScottinSJ

Other than Refsnyder, what can they do in the near term??

      • Austinmac

Too late. This is who they are.

        • ScottinSJ

Cashman has made the bed and now they have to lie in it.

  • Austinmac

Now at .500. That didn’t take long. I’m ready to stop saying that we’re not this bad.

  • SweetSpot

Pirela proving he is a utility player. He’s hardly taking advantage of the opportunity.

    • LazerTown

Well that is what he is, people were just vastly overrating him.

    • Some Asshole

He would need utility to be a utility player. I think he may be able to pull it off, but without the bat and the ability to pretend at multiple positions, he will sink fast.

  • LazerTown

I can’t even remember the last time this team won, and yet they are only 1 loss out of first.

    The entire division blows.

  • nycsportzfan

Freaking joke. You manage 2 runs against these bums when your trying not to be swept at home? Holy shit McCann , Beltran, Alex, drew, Esmil, Wilson, Carpenter, Jones, Didi, all freaking suck! I wish they didn’t, but unfortunately fact is, they do. Refs should be called up and even Roller should be. Start with Drew and Jones.
