Game 50: Late Night on the West Coast

DotF: Judge homers, Sanchez steals a base in Trenton's win
(Presswire)
(Presswire)

The only thing that sucks worse than a Yankees loss is waiting until late at night for a Yankees loss on the West Coast. The Yankees have dropped the first two games of this four-game series to the Athletics — which team is in first place and which one has the worst record in the league again? — and we’ve had to wait until the wee hours of the morning for both games to go final. Blah.

Anyway, the Yankees have lost two straight and 12 of their last 16 games, yet they somehow aren’t buried in the AL East. Quite the opposite in fact. The division is just that bad. Still, the Yankees can’t keep losing at this pace. The offense, the defense, and the pitching has let them down in not so equal parts. Start righting the ship with a win tonight, mmmkay? Here is the A’s lineup and here is the Yanks’ lineup:

  1. CF Brett Gardner
  2. 3B Chase Headley
  3. DH Alex Rodriguez
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. C Brian McCann
  6. RF Carlos Beltran
  7. LF Ramon Flores
  8. SS Didi Gregorius
  9. 2B Jose Pirela
    RHP Nathan Eovaldi

It’s cool and foggy in Oakland tonight, though there is no rain in the forecast. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Try to enjoy the game.

Roster Move: As expected, Slade Heathcott (quad) was placed on the 15-day DL and Flores was called up from Triple-A Scranton.

Injury Updates: Jacob Ellsbury (knee) is working out in a pool and getting treatment. That’s about it … Garrett Jones is dealing with plantar fasciitis but it’s manageable … Gregorio Petit (hand) has started taking batting practice … Brendan Ryan (calf, hamstring) has started playing in Extended Spring Training games.

Headley gets a $1M bonus for reaching 550pa. He is well on his way. Who would have thought he could be worse here than in San Diego?

    • nycsportzfan

I was always against Headley long term signing , and that was assuming his defense would be on point

He’s been ok offensively and terrible defensively, which isn’t big money valuable

      • frogbogg

        Negative bWAR valuable.

yeah, but if i’m going to do a late night, there are better things to do than west coast games. and i don’t mean go out or anything, i just mean that watching 5 episodes of law and order is better than watching a west coast game.

  • Alex Reddardriguez

I think we’re in must win mode. You can’t lose 3 straight to the worst team in the league and expect to make the postseason. They have to win every game Eovaldi, Warren and Pineda start because the other two starters are automatic L’s. He finally benches Drew and plays some of the kids so I would expect a W tonight.

    • Play Da Kidz!

      ..

    • Some Asshole

Yeah, but you choose which guy you want from the available list of countries. I usually choose Cuban, Dominican, Brazilian, Peruvian, and another Cuban. You can see I enjoy South American “mayo” more than others.

    • Pete22

I was always more worried about the pitching, not expecting much from CC, worried about Tanaka staying healthy and not a big fan of Eovaldi given what he showed with Miami. Pineda is also a concern although he has been pretty good.

I did expect more from Beltran and Headley though, and Didi and Drew, that coupled with the SPing is the problem

      • Pete22

His best year was 2006 when he went to the opposite field 25.1% of the time. Now he is down to 18.9%, Plus he is older and fatter. Not sure the shift is the main culprit

  • NYCORNERSTONE

WOW better send him back down he may be good

  • vicki

    para los muertos.

  • WT2

Repost: was in the old post lol:
    Go Flores!!!! Perfect throw!

  • Alkaline

Flores just saved my fantasy team a run.

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

And mine, given Eovaldi is in my rotation.

    • Dellin Betansaze

      And our REAL team one

      • Some Asshole

        …who?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        That doesn’t matter. Fantasy forever.

    • CashmanNinja

      Mine too! :) Go Eovaldi

  • HoopDreams

    Razor Ramon guns em down

  • yankeefeminista

Flores! Kid’s got a gun for an arm and great play by McCann.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

So what’s Flores’ nickname? I was thinking something to do with flowers

    • Some Asshole

Actually, they call him the Crest Man. Because toothpaste and fluoride.

    • JacobyWanKenobi

I like Ramon “Anchor Arms” Flores tbh

    • RetroRob

Florie. The team’s first female player.

  • GregD

    Now Flores hits a HR

    • Chip

      Or a popout, same thing

  • Beauee

    BUST

  • Chip

Flores should stop taking his hitting advise from Drew

  • Desert Yankee

Sweet throw-Not a bad one for his first major league effort

  • blake

Welcome to the big league Flores…..no all the fields don’t have 100 yards of foul territory

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Ohhhhh Didi

  • ScottinSJ

The absence of Drew has pumped up the entire line-up. Or was it Reggie?

    • Pete22

LOL, 2 scoreless innings and Pirela makes 2 of the 6 outs

  • Supernova

If Didi approached all AB’s like that one, he would be a half way decent hitter.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      excellent analysis

    • Chip

Yes, if he got a hit every time up, he would indeed be good at baseball

      • Supernova

I mean looking to hit it hard the other way instead of doing his best Willie Mays Hayes impersonation and trying to hit it into the stands every time up.

  • YankeesJunkie

That play was beautiful on both ends.

  • Pete22

Drew working the voo-drew dolls furiously on Pirela

  • blake

Drew would have popped up and only made one out

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

  • WT2

Did going to other way and it seems he did it on purpose.
Glad he is finally changing his approach. There is hope!

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

But he hit like .300 at AAA!!

    • Robert Lucarelli

      So did Didi

      • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Actually no.. He hit .287 there

        • Robert Lucarelli

No he hit .300 one season

          • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

But in his AAA career he hit .287

            • Robert Lucarelli

It’s actually .277 and I’m not talking about his career

              • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

No, baseball reference says he hit .287 in his 3 season in AAA and .272 in his 7 seasons in the minors
                http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gregor003mar

                • Sir Didi Nakamura

I’d care more about his recent stint in Triple A last year, not 2-3 years ago.

                • Robert Lucarelli

U r so stupid Im not talking about that

                • Robert Lucarelli

.277 for his minor league career

                  My god you are stupid

I was originally talking about one season

                  I hope you get cancer

                  • Sir Didi Nakamura

                    wut

                    • Robert Lucarelli

                      Hugh woatmeight?

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        shh

  • James

    Drew is better

  • ScottinSJ

Damn it Pirela, all you need to be is sub-par to stick.

  • GregD

It’s hits like that that make me believe Didi can be a better hitter

    • RetroRob

It was one of his five best looking hits of the year. It’s sad that I can actually almost calculate them.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        dislike

    • Shortporch

      Last night’s double was impressive.

      • Some Asshole

SIGN THAT MAN TO A TWELVE YEAR EXTENSION!!

        • Shortporch

          Not that impressive!

          • Some Asshole

Two years with a player option for a third. The Brendan Ryan Deluxe!

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

He had a double!??!?! Get Hideki on the phone, I’ve got one more for his collection!

    • cxz

The night he hit his first HR of the season, the crew covering the game had said Didi was spending extra time working on his swing. He’s had a few nice ones since then, so who knows?

  • CashmanNinja

Pirela is Drew. Drew is Pirela. Einhorn is a man!

  • Pkyankfan69

Pretty sure Stephen Drew used Pirela’s toothbrush and gave him his sucking disease

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      He’d be dead…

  • levendis

If they really want to light a fire under Drew call up Refs…

    • Pkyankfan69

Can we light Drew on fire?

      • Pete22

This crowd has already lit Solarte, Roberts, Johnson and Drew on fire. Pirela and Ref will be next. Oh Cano, we miss u so, the only fire was your bat

        • Some Asshole

          …and also the herpes.

      • Play Da Kidz!

Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.”

        –Terry Pratchett

    • Some Asshole

Actually, just set something on fire and shove it up Drew’s ass. You’ll have a Drewlotov Cocktail.

    • CashmanNinja

It may make Drew a bit desperate and actually try to kill Refsnyder. Poor Refsnyder would have to live in fear and pay Pirela to start his car every morning before leaving the house.

  • dayanks

I hope the Yanks hit Lawire tonight

    • Play Da Kidz!

      argee.

How is it possible to be an athlete and that slow?

  • blake

Wow Beltran cut one off….he actually looked like he was running!

    • NYCORNERSTONE

      flores got him moving

Is Flores also playing RF tonight, or am I missing something?

        • NYCORNERSTONE

its a reply about why Beltran’s actually running

          • Off the Wall

My statemeny was sardonic, and you missed it — you may need a dictionary tonight.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          LF

    • Pete22

Runs ok when he has to. If he does not have to or want to he goes at 60%

  • Pkyankfan69

Did Beltran really just cut that off in the gap or was the brownie I had for desert laced with LSD?

    • blake

      Both

  • ScottinSJ

Eovaldi continues to yield lasers everywhere.

  • BigBlueAL

Its amazing the amount of solid contact hitters consistently get off of Eovaldi.

One thing, when Beltran throws, he still has quite a cannon recently.

  • HoopDreams

This guy looks like Drew gained 100 pounds

    • RetroRob

…based on that, hits like him too.

  • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Shane Greene gave up four homers to the first seven batters he faced tonight. Egads.

    • ScottinSJ

      Can he play 2B??

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

      Strangely, all solos.

    • RetroRob

Wow. Hoping I have a few fantasy players in that game tonight.

      • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

I got 2 that took him deep (Trout & Joyce)

        • RetroRob

Yay. I have Joyce, which is amazing since he hasn’t hit at all this year. (It’s an AL-only, ten team league). Was just about to cut him but I’ve been holding him since I’ve crushing my league. He’s my Stephen Drew. I’m 1st place, so I’ll hold him for a bit, but he’s been flat out horrible.

          • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

I cut Chris Young & Alejandro de Aza outright to get Joyce. I made the right decision.

        • Pete22

          Pujols just hit the 5th

      • dayanks

        RIP

    • dayanks

      Didi > Greene. Obviously.

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Wow.. That would be hard to do even in batting pratice.. But I love seing him struggle for another club! (Yes, im that type of person)

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

I’m also that type of person. Fuck Greene, hope he does terrible. (Mostly to piss off the Didi h8ers)

    • cxz

But we gave up so much for Didi! Worst trade of the century, BR had Greene as a dark horse Cy-Young candidate so we must have been ripped off!

    • YankeesJunkie

FIP is 55 today. Yes, 55.

      • Pete22

3.45 FIP going into the game for the season

    • Chip

But everybody said he was a budding ace the first few weeks!

      • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I like Greene! But I feel like if he was this up and down with NYY, everyone would be saying they should have sold high and traded him for a young SS in the offseason.

        • Chip

I agree! I’m just saying that he’s more of a number 4 than the ace everybody was claiming him to be after 2 good starts

        • Some Asshole

Now, we’re all level-headed folks here. Would have stuck with Greene through thick and thin, always.

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

            haha

    • Pete22

I should have stacked the Angels but instead I stack the Cardinals and Greene is one of my SP’ers on that stack. At least he gave up a HR to one of my guys though

    • Some Asshole

See. He’s on the Raging Assholes, so he’s almost guaranteed to be terrible.

    • WT2

      ouch…

    • Too Many Idiots

Just gave up another to Pujols. 7 runs in 1.2

Ramon Flores – it’s like the Yankees just had a baby.

EO should buy Flores dinner tonight just for these 2 innings

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Razor Ramon Flores…say hello to the bad guy!!

  • Pete22

5 of 6 hits given up by Greene HR’s

    • Captain Clutch

So he might not be a hall of famer?!

      • Pete22

Not tonight, although he may have set some kind of record

    • dave_8

I’m glad we broke up with him.

      • Robert Lucarelli

        Ha

  • Some Asshole

Wait, Shane Greene gives up homeruns to everyone in the stadium and I moved up to 18th? Good god, Hoops, what’s going on here?

  • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Now that Greene has allowed 5 HRs in his start, does anyone know what the record is for most HRs allowed in an apperance or start?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      I’m going to guess 7.

      • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

I really have no idea, but I have to believe he is close to it

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

4 in an inning, 7 in a start. I was right! If this site is legit: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/home_runs_allowed_records.shtml

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

The 7 was in 1886 if it means anything

            • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Im just gonna go with the 6 then.. Surprised it has even happened that many times, since i would think that they got pulled pretty quickly after the 5th

              • Sir Didi Nakamura

Lowest is 2 innings until Greene tonight at 1.2 innings. And those are outliers too.

    • SweetSpot

      In 2 innings!

      • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Most people who allow 5 HRs are not even allowed to go 2 innings

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Six done eight times, last by James Shields in 2010. http://bbref.com/pi/shareit/er0Dz

      • SweetSpot

In how many innings. A’s announcer said Greene has given up 5 in 2 innings.

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

          4.0.

          • SweetSpot

            Thanks.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

I think Greene broke the 5 HR record

          • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

He did. Lowest I see is 2.0

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

All I see is 2 innings, he pitched 1.2.

      • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

I really need to learn how to use that site.. Its amazing how much you can find on there..

      • Some Asshole

I feel like Sloppy Thurston needs to be a reference in a Katie Sharp post.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

CC went 8 innings and lost 5-1 against the Rays in 2012 while letting off 5 solos. He’s the 18th on the list.

  • cxz

But Greene is totally going to help fill the void Verlander was leaving by being awful/injured in DET,right?

    • dave_8

He’ll be lucky to stay in the rotation. I thought that before the season started.

      • cxz

He had 78 innings pitched last year and people have been throwing fits over dealing him the way they did because of his good start. And I’ve just been sitting here like “lol you’re all going to look foolish about 10 starts into the season”

        • dave_8

I didn’t know how many starts — but I thought he’d turn back into the Shane Greene he had been for nearly all his minor league career. We gave up an old rookie on a hot streak. And despite all the reports about his curious availability and electric stuff during ST, I think the Yankees knew they were selling high. Didn’t get much. Didn’t give much.

          • cxz

Yeah, they knew that simply sticking Drew at SS wasn’t going to fly as a Jeter replacement after the year he had last year. At the time of the deal (and now,for that matter), there’s a real lack of acquirable/quality SS’s out there. Didi isn’t blowing anyone away, but there really weren’t many other options out there. It was a need for need trade ultimately, and most people with a level head knew it wasn’t going to be as lopsided as it looked early on

            • dave_8

I had no problem with the trade. Like I said the other day, you don’t get one of the Cubs SSs for Shane Greene. They gave up an overachieving arm due for a market correction for a young SS with warts.

  • Jman1213

Man, you could fit a decent-sized wedding reception in the foul territory at the Coliseum.

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Also, I forgot to mention in OT, I am going to a Scranton @ Buffalo game on June 8. Will get reports and photos.

  • ScottinSJ

Someone tell the team in gray that these are the A’s and this is Jesse Hahn.

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Jesse Hahn is not a bad pitcher

      • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Yeah, Hahn was a hot prospect in San Diego. Good acquisition by Oakland.

        • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Always had good stuff but he had a ton of injuries earlier in his career.

        • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

I really like the trade by Oakland too.. Did give up Norris, but always felt he was a bit overrated..

          • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Norris is thus far doing his job in San Diego… The entire team isn’t working as a whole though.

            • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Yeah, he is good.. I just for no reason at all think he is overrated.. Just look at him as mostly a platoon bat without a real defensive position

              • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Eh, Norris proved himself more than I think Vogt has. Vogt, I would put more in that position.

                • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

I just think Vogt has a better bad, but is worse defensively (I haven’t looked it up or anything, just my amateur thought about them, without having seen that much of either)

                  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Batting WAR: Norris 6.7 vs. Vogt: 3.6
AVG Career: Norris .251 vs. Vogt .271

                    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Yeah but didn’t Vogt become a hitter this season for realsies

                    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

.270 average for 2013-14 combined. Less games in 2013 than 2014.

    • Pete22

Mike pointed out in one of his posts the A’s are not as bad as their record indicates. Their weak point is the pen, but you have to get to it early to exploit it. If you let their starters go deep and get behind by a few runs you are done

  • Some Asshole

Stephen Drew sucks. I know it’s not a popular opinion in these parts, but…darn it, I don’t care! Somebody’s gotta say it! I accept all the consequences of my act, speaking out for the truth.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Why does this loser have to get mentioned when he’s not even starting? Can we just get a break!??!

      • Some Asshole

He’s dragging down the team. They would have been up 7 to -3 by now.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

Traded mid-game to make them go to -3?

          • Some Asshole

  • SweetSpot

Damn EV – he’s a base hit machine.

  • Robert Lucarelli

Vogt is strong…and he’s gritty lolz

  • oldmanalex

Was playing the show 2012. Got frustrated doing all the roster updates manually. Ended up just putting Arod at SS and jeter in left and went to town.

    • Robert Lucarelli

Not getting the new one ?

      • oldmanalex

No money, plus I don’t really play video games all that much anymore.

    1. What is a Stephen Vogt?
    2. When did he become a world beater?

Joe West being clobbered was great, considering his response to it.

    • Pete22

After the Rays dumped him. Might be the best hitting C in the AL now

    • Robert Lucarelli

He always hit well in minors

  • Beauee

    That wasn’t a bad pitch.

  • Shortporch

    Get out of this.

Can’t really be mad with Eovaldi there..

  • James

    Aw crap

  • ScottinSJ

    Eovaldi can’t put guys away.

  • Captain Clutch

Too bad they can’t put Eovaldi in AAA where he belongs.

  • Pete22

Another crappy start by Eovaldi but fortunately he has remained unscathed with bad baserunning by the A’s and some nice defense

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      it’s 0-0, not a bad start, yet

  • SweetSpot

At least get someone up – before he gives up 5 runs.

    • ScottinSJ

      He’s already at 50 pitches.

    • Some Asshole

      GET PHELPS UP!!!

      Oh, right….

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s cute you think the bullpen won’t give up five runs.

  • WT2

So the As are simply going after EOs FB and laying off all his secondary pitches.

    • Alkaline

That’s what the scouting report says

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Someone get Billy Beane on the phone and tell him to come watch this game.

  • dayanks

    That…That could’ve been worse.

  • oldmanalex

How long is someone considered a project, till the team officially takes away your status as a project thereby letting everyone know that you just flat out suck? Not implying anything regarding Nate, just curious..

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      more than 2 months

    • Alkaline

      2 years

  • Jim Piasecki

Man this staff is bad. Are the Yankees good at anything

  • TwinTowerz

Here we go, the start of the carousel

  • ScottinSJ

    Seriously, Eovaldi is batting practice.

    • Pete22

At least he has kept it in the park, a nice big park where the ball does not carry, unlike Greene tonight

  • WT2

Ok nvm that was on a Slider… a very bad one, but it wasn’t a FB… oh well, they are just hitting him like an instrument.

It’s like they know what is coming, not that is hard with EO.

  • BigBlueAL

    Rocket after rocket after rocket.

  • HoopDreams

Kinda wonder if Rothschild is feeling the heat

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      doubtful (Hopefully)

    • oldmanalex

It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes..

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Don’t blame him.. Eovaldi has always allowed a ton of hits.

    • m. martin

eovaldi is not rothschild’s fault, he is eovaldi’s fault.

    • bernbabybern

      I don’t think it’s Rothschild’s fault.

      • HoopDreams

Not saying that, but he’s the scapegoat

  • Jim Piasecki

Wow this team is just bad. How do poor hitting teams just crush us

  • SweetSpot

Girardi – how many runs do you want to be in the hole? Ask yourself, do you feel confident EV is going to ‘get it’ all of a sudden? 8 hits in 2 1/3 innings. Come on.

    • Beauee

Who do you put in? Rogers? He’s been worse than Eovaldi.

      • SweetSpot

Well that’s sad if you’re saying we have no one better.

        • Beauee

It may be sad, but it’s true. There is no one to put in in the third inning.

  • JacobyWanKenobi

Well according to Suzyn, this is not what the yankees wanted. pfft

  • Captain Clutch

Does Eovaldi have any AAA options left? If so the yanks need to send him down. He doesn’t give them quality starts or length. He is batting practice and he is going to kill their bullpen.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Guys, sending players down to Triple A isn’t the magical fix to struggling players.

      • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Yes it is!! Always send struggeling players to AAA!

      • m. martin

but at least it sends them a message

        • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

And whats thats gonna do for them?? All of a sudden they understand they need to be better? I think he already knows that.. Its not gonna make Eovaldi better by him going to AAA, thats just dumb to think

          • m. martin

you can have a message or no message. if you want no message, that’s fine, just say so.

        • Some Asshole

“Fuck youze, here’s a bus ticket.”

        • Alkaline

Of what? That he has to improve? You don’t think he knows that aleady?

          • Some Asshole

            But what…if he doesn’t?

            BOOM

            • Sir Didi Nakamura

“I let off 10 hits, BUT I wasn’t sent down… My momma only punished me when I did bad things and when I wasn’t punished it meant I was being a good boy…. So since I haven’t been sent down it means I’ve been a good boy and should just keep doing what I’ve always been doing!”

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

“I’ve been sent to Triple A! Better flip the switch from mediocrity to consistent ace now!”

          • m. martin

exactly. it is all a matter of morality and will, when it comes down to it. the will to win. the integrity to do what it takes to make wins happen.

            • Alkaline

So all players performing poorly just don’t have moral integrity or the will to win? Please be satire.

      • Captain Clutch

Maybe this is what he is. A guy who doesn’t have good secondary pitches, can’t put batters away, he throws hard but batters don’t react like his fastball is anything special. He definitely isn’t fooling anyone.

        • Alkaline

He also just turned 25. If he’s doing this same stuff for 3 more years than ya that’s what he is.

        • cxz

I hate his slider,it’s such a hittable pitch and really is only good for keeping the ball on the ground, but his other secondary stuff really isn’t all that bad movement wise, he just doesn’t know how to sequence it and doesn’t seem to trust it enough, which is what’s set him back. If he can learn to trust in it, that fastball becomes 10x more effective. There’s going to be a learning curve, otherwise a guy with his potential wouldn’t have come at such an affordable rate.

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Yes he does, but that’s not going to happen.

    • Beauee

Who do you replace him with? Esmil Rogers? He’s been horrible. Eovaldi has learned all he is going to learn from AAA. It wouldn’t serve any purpose.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Send Eovaldi down at this point and he’d be the Felix Hernandez of the International League. Nothing to learn there.

    • blake

Coming into tonight he’s gone 7+ innings in 2 of his last 3 starts

  • ScottinSJ

I don’t care how good this kid’s arm is, he’s not a good pitcher.

    • Johnny Mac

Another one of Cashmans terrible moves. He really does not have an eye for young talent.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

Funny thing is neither do both of you!

        • Play Da Kidz!

          Oh it’s hilarious.

        • Play Da Kidz!

          Oh it’s hilarious.

      • Alkaline

You take eos potential every day of the week for what he gave up. You want the yanks to get younger, they did. Now we have the growing pains that come with it.

        • Beauee

This. They gave up Prado. That’s it, and he has been pretty subpar this year. If Eo wasn’t a project he wouldn’t have cost just Prado. Phelps and Jones was pretty much a wash.

          • Johnny Mac

            That is true

          • Sir Didi Nakamura

Honestly who gives a shit about Prado and Phelps, Phelps blows and anybody who gives a shit about him is just being annoying and a starter is much more important than a 2B who isn’t even doing well this year anyway. Anyone who thinks that trade was bad needs to open their eyes and stop being stubborn.

            • Play Da Kidz!

I did like Phelpsy throwing behind Kiermaier last year in Tampa after The Captain got plunked.

        • Play Da Kidz!

          word.

    • WT2

He is actually a thrower rather than a pitcher.
The Yankees are trying to make him a Pitcher, because the tools are there.
That why they said it was an experiment.

  • oldmanalex

It’s pretty awesome that we’ve been shitty for like a month now and we’re still hovering around 1st. It’s going to be a sad day when some team in the east gets hot and starts running away with it.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      why not us

      • oldmanalex

This game is a good example why not.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

*Points to other AL East teams shitty games*

    • Pete22

Awesome? We drop to 500 with a loss.

  • Pete22

All of my DFS starters shitting the bed tonight, no prizes tonight

  • Johnny Mac

I just turn on to the Yankee game and the first thing i hear is that Eo has already allowed 8 hits. Just terrible

  • WT2

If he were to throw 3 CBs in a row they would not even try to swing…

  • cxz

Guys, calm down. At least Eovaldi has worked out better than Joe Kelly.

  • Dellin Betansaze

Is it someone playing the drums??? What the fuck?!??! It’s been driving me crazy

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      It’s terrible

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

It’s taken you 21 innings to notice?

      • Dellin Betansaze

No, It’s been making me insane for 21 innings

      • Some Asshole

Only did for me because this is the first game I’ve been watching. Murdering that guy would be a charitable act.

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Or just take his drumsticks and throwing them out into Mount Davis.

          • Some Asshole

And then chaining him to the foul pole. Just in time for Raiders season.

  • BigBlueAL

The A’s announcers are talking about how Eovaldi throws so hard but all he seems to do is throw breaking balls. Threw 7 in a row at one point.

    • Alkaline

That’s what he needs to work on. Only one way to get better at them.

  • RetroRob

He’s lucky they’ve only scored twice.

  • Leftballer

He’s miscast In the wrong role for 4 years now.

    • oldmanalex

Nate the great as our CP?

  • Beauee

He gave up 8 hits but it’s still just 2-1, let’s all relax.

    • ScottinSJ

We’re not exactly a scary offense after the first, if you’ve noticed.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

63 pitches through three.. Welp give us at least two more innings evo

  • cxz

I mean, Eovaldi entered the season number 4 in the rotation. 2 runs from a number 4 is pretty acceptable. The hits are a problem, but come on.

    • WhittakerWalt

      Three runs.

Not sure this team can handle adversity.
Conditions have to be optimal for them to win/compete.
August and Sept is a more favorable home schedule and we could have 25% different players.

I miss the day’s when I don’t sweat over every game !! Every single game has been on pins and needles

    • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

So do I but this is an overnight game and I just want it over.

  • Chip

Man, Eovaldi is just getting singled to death. They’ve found every single hole in the infield

  • SweetSpot

Go ahead Girardi give the game away.

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

I can’t even blame EO for that one…

  • ScottinSJ

Either these A’s can hit, or Eovaldi sucks.

    • Jim Piasecki

Seems every team can hit against us

    • Hankflorida

Can I take answer no 2!

    • Sccrkeepr34

3 nights in a row the A’s have singled and not scored the run from 2nd…

  • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

    Enough with those groundball singles…

It’s ironic that our organization loves taking up reclamation projects.

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

      Name an organization that doesn’t..

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        Heaven

      • oldmanalex

Let’s face it, we aren’t the best organization when it comes to developing pitching.

        • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

No, but they aren’t hopeless reclamation projects they are just taking up.. Eovaldi is actually a pretty good project is you ask me, and most other people, plus he didn’t cost that much

      • Some Asshole

Joe Kelly is a finished product.

    • WhittakerWalt

      How is that irony?

  • Since_77

Amazing that the Oakland has the worst record in the league but they look like world beaters against us.

    • Jim Piasecki

      Same with Texas

  • ScottinSJ

I wonder if boy genius makes an obligatory trip to Seattle on Monday. Not that it would matter.

    • WhittakerWalt

      What are you babbling about?

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

    Fuck you Hahn

  • cxz

The amount of RAB rage over Eovaldi is pretty entertaining. Nah, so such thing as a learning curve. All number 4’s with serious upside must pitch like number 2’s immediately or we riot

    • WhittakerWalt

You have to admit he’s pretty maddening. A guy with his stuff should be better than this. And he’s been in the league since 2011.

      • cxz

I mean to a degree. But again, he started in the rotation this year as our number 4, it was well documented that he was a project, or he would have taken a lot more than Prado and Phelps to obtain. It’s pretty ridiculous to hold expectations as high as some of you guys are. If he’s still doing this at 28, rage on, please. But until then, expectations should really be more balanced than they are

        • WhittakerWalt

I don’t expect him to be a number 1, but I expect better than this. He’s got such great stuff, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s pitch selection, maybe he just doesn’t know where it’s going, but the guy inspires ZERO confidence.

          • Beauee

HIs last outing he went seven innings and gave up what 2 runs? Against a good team. I don’t understand how you can say you have ZERO confidence. His ERA and FIP are in the low fours. Not great, but it’s not like he’s Joe Kelley.

            • WhittakerWalt

I never said he’s incapable of pitching a good game. Watching him though? I don’t look forward to it, ever.

          • cxz

I think a lot of it has to do with self trust in the secondary stuff, and learning to use it properly in game action. If you look at break downs of the kid’s stuff overall, he has some decent off speed offerings. He uses his Fastball the most, obviously, but he doesn’t have pinpoint command of it. He uses his slider 2nd, and that pitch is so hittable its not funny. It’s good for inducing grounders, but it also gets slapped around a lot, yet he trusts it so much to use it 2nd most. He has a decent splitter and curve, he just next to never uses them, and if he does, he doesn’t use them at times where they’d be most effective. If he were to gain confidence/understand proper sequencing, the total command of his Fastball wouldn’t need to be perfect. It’s frustrating, but when you get away with dealing so little for a guy with the raw tools to succeed that he does, you give him the chance to work through it unless he’s unbearably bad, which he hasn’t been.

      • cxz

I mean to a degree. But again, he started in the rotation this year as our number 4, it was well documented that he was a project, or he would have taken a lot more than Prado and Phelps to obtain. But until then, expectations should really be more balanced than they are

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

In their defense, he has already throw over 500 innings at the major league level, so he should be futher along the learning curve

    • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

In their defense, he has already throw over 500 innings at the major league level, so he should be futher along the learning curve

      • Tony Wilson

        Thank you!

      • Tony Wilson

        Thank you!

      • cxz

Anybody who actually looked at what Eovaldi did before wearing pinstripes knew that he wasn’t going to just immediately be an ace, he has problems to work out, hence being slotted in at back of the rotation. Obviously, it’s frustrating but we knew(or should have known) it was a project arm. People piss and moan about having an old team, but when the young guys struggle, they’re still screwing up

        • Some Asshole

          Shoulda traded for Cliff Lee.

        • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

The order in the rotation means nothing.. I like a young team too, and I really do like Eovaldi, but he is frustrating to watch, and don’t just use the learning curve excuse, because when you have 500+ innings at the majors, you should be further along.. But I still like him, and have hope

          • cxz

The order in the rotation comes into play in the sense that they didn’t hype him as a top flight starter from the get go, it was pretty clear that he was a project, look at his numbers the past few years. If people are so mad about how he’s done, they didn’t have reasonable expectations in the first place. Regardless of innings logged, there’s absolutely still a learning curve with a guy like him. If he’s doing this when he’s 28, then sure, worry and yell. But man, he’s what, 25? There’s time for him to learn, and if this is as bad as it gets for a guy in the back of the rotation, we could be doing a lot worse.

    • Y’s Guy

It’s not just on RAB, I heard Marlins fans and Dodgers fans before them say the same things about him. Pretty much nobody feels that he’s pitching anywhere near his potential. I heard Flaherty talking about it on WFAN today.

      • cxz

That’s the key there though, because it’s well acknowledged the potential is there, waiting for him. He’s a project, a work in progress, and that was well documented by being the pitcher he was last year. NY fans need instant glorification or they rage until it happens, and it’s really just a waste of time. He’s going to take some work, all of us aware of the guy knew that. It’s a frustrating process but it’s worth it when the dividends could pay off the way they could. It’s no guarantee, but we didn’t give much to get him, and he’s been a passable back end option for now.

        • Y’s Guy

I think it’s the lack of progress across almost 90 starts thats most worrisome about him.

    • dave_8

A portion of the rage is due to our slide back into losing.

      • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

They don’t want to be there.

  • insidethescoreboard

That YES break just made for a small measure of consolation. Shane Greene detonated for 5 home runs tonight.

    • oldmanalex

      Damn..

    • dave_8

If Shane’s still mad at being “dumped”, tell him we just wanted to see other people.

    • dave_8

If Shane’s still mad at being “dumped”, tell him we just wanted to see other people.

    • Hankflorida

And with McCarthy out of commission, our pitching could be worse if we kept them both. Maybe?

      • insidethescoreboard

Schadenfreude maybe but we have to work with what we have.

    • Hankflorida

And with McCarthy out of commission, our pitching could be worse if we kept them both. Maybe?

          • WhittakerWalt

You don’t see a lot of remarkably low-scoring games from this team? I sure do.

            • Beauee

I do, but I’m saying I feel like that is common to a lot of teams. You score a bunch, get into a rut and don’t score much, and so on. The problem has been the pitching.

              • WhittakerWalt

The low-scoring games are especially low-scoring for this team. More than usual, I think.

    FUCK THE SHIFT

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

        salt

    • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

I’ll say this about the shift, I no longer have any idea whether a ball off the bat is going to be a hit unless it’s completely crushed.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

I still think everything hit up the middle will be a hit :/

        • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

If Pirela hits and he has that capacity as he makes good contact with Drew taking Ryan’s role, will we keep our fingers crossed that Pirela’s glove doesn’t cost us?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Yes if it’s Refs. Pirela’s not going to hit well, I’ll make bets with anybody here

      • Hankflorida

I like Ref’s bat better then Pirela but don’t discount his ability to find the holes and raise his average to a respectable one with a better glove then Refs.

  • HoopDreams

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

      plaque

    • Y’s Guy

You just have to let that go. retiring #’s is all about ticket sales and not about merit. There are several Yankee HOF’ers who don’t have #’s retired. It makes no sense and probably never will.

      • Sir Didi Nakamura

They don’t retire numbers to get an extra 5k fans, that’s ridiculosu

  • dave_8

Good time for a quickie. But then again, isn’t it always?

    • Some Asshole

Make it a longie. Eovaldi’s up!

  • oldmanalex

Wonder who has the fastest time to a 100 pitches.

    • Some Asshole

David Cone could get to 100 pitches in six minutes, usually when facing the Mariners in the playoffs.

You have a kingdom? What is your main export?

      • RetroRob

Base hits. Someone named Eovaldi has purchased many of them.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

          Regular customer?

          • RetroRob

He bought plenty to last the year.

  • ScottinSJ

    Thanks for the 4.2 Eovaldi.

    • Hankflorida

Playoff Joe can channel Billie Martin and ruin some arms but win the old fashioned way. I doubt it!

Martin in a drunken rage would probably have decked Eovaldi.

    Nice work Shreve.

      Binder

      • JacobyWanKenobi

It must be a 3 ring binder, Miller, Betances, Shreve each get a ring.

        • HoopDreams

You ever get your fingers caught in those? Sucks

          • JacobyWanKenobi

More bite than a betances slider

        • Some Asshole

Nah, Girardi’s only gotten one ring and it wasn’t his fault and Cashman failed anyway.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Because Girardi actually wants to keep the game close.

  • oldmanalex

Regardless of how this game ends, for me, Tanaka’s start on Wednesday is really important for a few reasons. 1)Obviously to see what we’re going to get from him going forward. 2) If we’re going to make some noise and create some distance nows is probably the best time. Our rotation has had their ups and downs and this will probably be closest to full strength we’ll get. If we’re going to make the postseason it’s going to have to be on tanaks and pineda’s arms. Everyone else is just a question mark.

Nah. Shreve in the 7th betances n miller ..Shreve can can righties out and he’s the third best reliever

        • Robert Lucarelli

My guess is Shreve for the sixth, Wilson for the seventh, Dellin for 4-5 outs if necessary, then Miller.

    • dave_8

Cooked in the field though. Can’t get around that. That’s no slump.

    • Off the Wall

He just missed one that was knocked down by the wind in deep CF — at 405 — in Game 1, and was robbed of an Xtra base hit by Cain’s phenomenal catch against KC at the 408 mark in that series.

  • Hankflorida

Girardi stayed with Beltran even when he lived in the Mendoza Line, so does this mean unlucky Drew has some breathing room while Pirela sits?

YEAH! Wait, what are you talking about?

      • Some Asshole

        Poo?

    • YankeesJunkie

Still a below average fielder and hitter.

      • cxz

He’s a “below average hitter” because of his abysmal start. He’s been pretty good the past month. No defending the defense, but his bat has still got something left to offer

        • YankeesJunkie

His 80wRC says that even with him hot he has not been playing that great. Especially to cover his abysmal defense.

          • cxz

He’s not an all star, but he’s been a LOT better than most were planning on him. People were saying to DFA him after his start. That would be a silly assessment now. He’s a defensive liability, and really ideally would be a DH, but what we’re getting now is better than nothing. If he keeps at the pace he’s at now, when forgetting about the start to the season he had, i’d be hard pressed to complain a whole lot.

            • YankeesJunkie

Actually his performance has been below 0 WAR, I don’t see him bringing it the point of being above replacement. He is bad, McCann has become an above average hitter in hot streak, Beltran has stayed well below and with his defense his offense is straight up unacceptable. Great he hit a homer, but to say he okay or above replacement at this point is bad considering the playing time he has receieved.

              • cxz

It’s more than the HR that dictated me saying he’s been better than expected though, didn’t he just have like a 14 game hit streak and bat like .300 the past month(i’m too lazy to look into that right now,it’s late lol)? Also, are you factoring in defense and his bad start into everything? Because it’s established he can’t field at an acceptable level, his defense is as good as Drew’s bat. And his start was atrocious. But to say he’s plain bad is skewed imo. The groundwork has been laid for a productive season the past month. It may not be vintage Beltran, but I’ll take it.

                • YankeesJunkie

I’ll give you lazy, he has 117wRC+ in May, however this feels more like a dead cat bounce than a comeback, plus his fielding is atrocious still which diminishes his 117wRC and the lack ability he showed overall in 2014. However, I appreciate you making me do research, part of being a better baseball fan, though I will continue to stick with my original point.

                  • cxz

Fair enough, we’ll see how it goes, could be a dead cat bounce given the sample size or it could be a sign of more to come. I appreciate my laziness being respected!

                    • YankeesJunkie

My laziness, I though he was doing much worse this month. If I am going to present facts they should be somewhat accurate. I enjoy conversations of reason though!

                    • cxz

Conversations of reason are the best kind because they’re the rarest in environments such as this, haha

        • YankeesJunkie

Esmil Rogers…Lindgren has options, not saying he is done by any means but he is the odd man out.

    • JacobyWanKenobi

We may as well have two long men

    • dave_8

They won’t cut Carpenter. Trade? possible. But Lindgren goes down for this one unless we overuse someone the day before.

      • RetroRob

It will probably be Lindgren. Cashman did say earlier that when Lindgren is called up they want him to stay, but circumstances now will probably change that. Girardi likes to work his young relievers in slowly, low pressure situations. I don’t see how he can do that with Lindgren while Carpenter is scuffling. That means Lindgren probably goes down.

        • dave_8

I didn’t see where Cash said that, but if it was long ago, I assume that he meant that he’d stay if he was promoted due solely to performance rather than them simply them needing an arm. If not for that bullpen blowout against the Rangers, I don’t think he comes up just yet.

Also, I think plenty of teams would jump on Carpenter’s arm if they made him available. Too much stuff for some other team not to take a chance on getting him back on track — esp down the stretch. Plenty of NL teams view him differently than we do now.

          • RetroRob

It was earlier. He was responding to questions about why Lindgren wasn’t on the team to start the season. His response indicated that when they called him up they wanted to keep him up, not bounce back and forth. That’s all fine in the moment, but in the end they’re going to do what’s best for the team at that given time. They’ll want to hold the depth. Lindgren is going to have to work his way into key situations, and he’s a bit away from the Circle of Trust, especially after his last performance. Some people will moan if he’s the one that’s sent down, but this is no different than what Girardi did with D-Rob.

  • http://riveraveblues.com/ Mick

    Shreve to start the 7th?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Lake Street Dive. Great jazzish style band. Girl’s got an awesome sexy voice (and apparently the on stage presence to back it up) and the pipes of a back up mo-town singer. If you like jazz, check em out – they do an amazing cover of both Faith by George Michael, as well as Rich Girl by Hall & Oates.

He’s so bad I’m almost feeling sorry for him.

    • cxz

I felt bad for him, genuinely, until he pumped himself up earlier and said that his knowledge, defense, and help with Didi as SS has been huge. It’s not entirely false, but when you’re playing like he has, there’s no room to be vain.

    • WT2

Same, I feel bad for him too. I just think they are making it worse for him by trying to push him in the everyday lineup when he clearly didn’t belong there.

He is fine as a backup. That is what he is at this point.

With that said, I have to be honest. Since the Yanks were up by 2 already with Miller up, I wasn’t rooting for him to get a good hit, because I am afraid Joe use that as an excuse to put him back in the starting lineup.

  • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

Future yankee zobrist wasting no time

  • Sir Didi Nakamura

Wow, beautiful play on both ends

    Effin Didi’s gotta go

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

      Really?

    • JacobyWanKenobi

      But he just got here?

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Get a normal shortstop so the tying run is at the plate right now!

        Check your email sir.

        • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I got it but it’s too late to read it. I will in the morning.

            Alright, fair enough.

    • Chip

Do you miss pastadiving Jeter or what?

  • nycsportzfan

Dellin still has a zero era. They finally have created and bred the perfect specimen. Bound to happen

  • RetroRob

Didi is giving Tex his calisthenics workout in game.

  • ScottinSJ

Your MVP tonight is (mouth having trouble forming the words) Carlos Beltran.

  • NonSuicidalMustacheMasher

    Thats the defense we want!

  • James

Teix fucking rules (and great play by didi)

    • RetroRob

From a defensive point of view, it was so frustrating last year when Tex was out for periods with injuries. His replacements couldn’t even make standard plays, let alone difficult ones.

      • James

Yeah. His defense is still amazing. Hope he can keep it up and win anither GG.

        • Chip

Oddly, the advanced metrics really don’t like him

          • RetroRob

He’s been a bad 1B’man his entire career according to the advanced metrics, but advanced defensive stats at 1B have always been problematic. I’ve been following them for at least two decades and they still haven’t figured it out. I’ll go with the scouts view on this one. He’s plus.

Game OVER! God we really needed this win.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

Lol everyone here that wants to dfa didi wanted to dfa tex and send dellin to AAA in April. Clown shit.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Didi h8ers can suck dis dick

    • WT2

I think there was more of a cry to take Drew out of the starting lineup.
Personally, I wanted Drew out of the lineup for obvious reasons. I just think you can’t have both Didi and Drew hitting back to back making automatic outs.
It was way to easy to pitch around 6-9 in the Yankee lineup tbh. Hopefully that changes now that Drew seems to be out of the starting lineup. We can only hope.

      • Mandy Stankiewicz

Not talking about drew, a disposable stopgap player who’s a sick obsession on this blog

        • WT2

I understand. I was imply pointing out most people, including me, wanted the Yankees to pick one, Didi or Drew, but not both in the lineup.
Drew over Didi was silly of course.

    • Pete22

      Which parallel universe you in?

    • WhittakerWalt

Yeah it sure sucked when Tex had 10 homers in April. We all hated that. And Dellin with the 0.00 ERA and a mi?lion strikeouts, yeah we hated that too.

      • Mandy Stankiewicz

This was just googling one thread in April on Dellin:

        • WhittakerWalt

I’m going to assume that was before the season even got going.

          • Mandy Stankiewicz

It was in April, as in “send dellin to AAA in April” like I wrote above.

            • WhittakerWalt

Before the season started. While he was still struggling in ST. Big whoop.

I feel like….you’re not even responding to my original comment at this point.

That’s the bullpen we thought we had

  • nycsportzfan

    good stuff yanks! Belty baby!

  • JacobyWanKenobi

Miller time is over, Bed time is now!

  • RetroRob

Take tomorrow’s game, split, and get on to Seattle where they’ll win 2 of 3.

    • Sir Didi Nakamura

Felix on Monday :/ And vs. Pineda, right?

      • RetroRob

        Yes.

        • Sir Didi Nakamura

They should skip Pineda, waste to have him against Felix…

          • RetroRob

That game will be one of the two wins. Pineda shuts down his former team.

            • cxz

The pitcher lover in me is unbelievably excited about that match up.

              • Sir Didi Nakamura

                It’s at 10 PM though >.>

                • cxz

                  No bueno

    • Pete22

Not so sure. Big Mike goes against King Felix. Then we have CC and an iffy Tanaka. Cano hit a Hr tonight and might be heating up. Should be a good series though

  • Pete22

That was a big win to keep hopes alive for a series tie, and stay over 500. Playoff Joe made all the right moves

  • NYCORNERSTONE

    Tomorrow we win

  • ScottinSJ

    Dear Joe,
Please resist your inclinations and use the same line-up tomorrow.

    Thanks much,
    Most of us

    • Hankflorida

Pirela will get his Spring training mojo back!

    • Chip

Uhhh what’s wrong with the lineup? Probably the best we have right now overall

      • ScottinSJ

Ummm, that’s exactly what I’m imploring Joe to do.

      • RetroRob

I think he’s saying he likes the line up. Not sure I’ll say it’s the best one all year. Any lineup without Ellsbury is not the best one, although I’d be happy with tonight’s lineup again tomorrow and the next day and the next day…

        • WT2

Agreed. Same lineup until Ells gets back. Add Young against lefties of course.

  • TIME WILL TELL

God we needed this win .

  • bernbabybern

    Good win.

Pretty good game time considering Eovaldi gave up like 20 hits.

  • WT2

Great win tonight. We really needed it.
Time to get ready for bed.
    Goodnight everyone:)

Friend of.mine who played in Seattle during the Griffey years says that some water cooler chatter on the blue floor ) the suits hangout are whispering about the nexr 8 1/2 years and the 200 plus million dollars due to their very relaxed 2nd baseman.

    • Play Da Kidz!

The grass is always greener on the other side of second base. Is any team happy with 2B except the Marlins and Indians?

Are you implying Cano isn’t always great at hustle?

    • WhittakerWalt

Are you implying Cano isn’t always great at hustle?

      • Pat M

Aside from the perception of hustle or the lack of. No the real concern is how the club is feeling about this contract. A Theme most favorable reports indicated that Cano would still hold a good line for 4 maybe 5 seasons.. There’s some talk that five tears is a lark and he’ll never have YANKEE numbers again. Well no shit guys the Cano contract is laced with cement, very heavy..
