- The Yankees were off Monday, then they welcomed the Athletics to the Bronx for a three-game series. The offense sputtered in Tuesday’s 3-2 extra innings loss, then again in Wednesday’s 5-2 loss. The A’s finished the sweep with a 7-3 victory in the series finale.
- The Rays came to town next, and the Yankees took the opener 6-3 thanks to Jacoby Ellsbury’s steal of home. Brett Gardner’s walk-off homer gave them a 3-2 win Saturday, but Michael Pineda got rocked in Sunday’s 8-1 loss.
- Injury Updates: Gardner (neck) missed one game with stiffness. Alex Rodriguez (oblique) went for an MRI and it came back negative. Aaron Hicks (shoulder) is day-to-day with bursitis. Branden Pinder (elbow) has a torn UCL and is facing Tommy John surgery. Jacob Lindgren (elbow) was placed on the High-A DL. Slade Heathcott (hand) is day-to-day with a contusion after being hit by a pitch.
