Update: Carlos Beltran day-to-day after hamstring MRI comes back clean
Yankees lose Beltran and get shut down by Hamels in a 7-1 loss to the Rangers

Let’s start with some notes:

  • In case you missed it earlier, RHP James Kaprielian has been diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain. Also, C Gary Sanchez and SS Jorge Mateo will represent the Yankees at the Futures Game.
  • Vince Lara-Cinisomo put together a list of nine pitching prospects who are in the middle of breakout seasons, and RHP Chance Adams is one of the nine. Adams has a 3.01 ERA (2.52 FIP) with a 30.9% strikeout rate and a 6.3% walk rate in 68.2 inning this year. He’s transitioning from reliever to starter.
  • And finally, earlier today Matt Eddy pointed out the Yankees have the highest minor league winning percentage in baseball this year at .601. The Phillies are a distant second (.576). I’ve been around long enough to know winning in minors means nothing, but it’s still cool to see. So with that in mind, let’s update the standings tonight.

Triple-A Scranton (6-4 win over Syracuse) they are 47-30 and have a one-game lead in the North Division

  • DH Ben Gamel: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB
  • RF Aaron Judge: 1-4, 1 , 1 BB — no homer? lame
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI — 11-for-37 (.297) with two doubles and a homer in his last nine games
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — man he is on some kind of tear, pretty amazing that he’s in the conversation for a call-up right now given the last few years
  • CF Jake Cave: 1-4
  • RHP Kyle Haynes: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 8/5 GB/FB — 55 of 96 pitches were strikes (57%)
  • RHP Matt Wotherspoon: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1/4 GB/FB — 19 of 33 pitches were strikes (58%)

Double-A Trenton (10-9 win over Portland, walk-off style) they are 49-29, which is the second best record in the entire Eastern League … they’re also 5.5 games back of Reading in the Eastern Division, which is bonkers

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-6, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — walk-off inside-the-park homer, which is pretty much the coolest thing ever
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 2-5, 1 3B, 2 RBI — threw a runner out at second
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 3-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — five homers in his last five games and nine homers in his last 15 games
  • PH Mark Payton: 1-1, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI — hit the game-tying pinch-hit three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth … sounds like a helluva game, huh?
  • RHP Vicente Campos: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 4/2 GB/FB — 55 of 96 pitches were strikes (57%)

High-A Tampa (5-4 win over Brevard County, walk-off style) they are 46-29 overall, and they’ve already clinched a postseason berth by winning the first half North Division title

  • 2B Jorge Mateo: 0-2, 1 RBI, 1 K — left the game for an unknown reason in the fifth inning
  • 2B Thairo Estrada: 1-2
  • DH Austin Aune: 1-4, 2 K
  • SS Abi Avelino: 3-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 CS — 13-for-32 (.406) in his last eight games
  • 3B Vince Conde: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI — hit the walk-off grand slam … sorry, but a walk-off inside-the-parker is way cooler
  • LHP James Reeves: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HB, 6/2 GB/FB — 53 of 84 pitches were strikes (63%)
  • RHP Gabe Encinas: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 WP, 6/2 GB/FB — 23 of 50 pitches were strikes (46%) … 20/34 K/BB in 26 innings

Low-A Charleston was rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader on August 6th. The River Dogs are 43-31 overall, and like Tampa, they’ve already clinched a postseason berth by winning the first half Southern Division title.

Short Season Staten Island (12-6 win over Hudson Valley in six innings) the game was completed early due to rain … they are 10-2 with a four-game lead in the McNamara Division

  • DH Ricardo Ferreira: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K, 2 SB — he’s 8-for-8 in steal attempts in eleven games
  • 2B Nick Solak: 1-3, 3 R, 2 BB — five walks and two strikeouts in five games for this year’s second rounder
  • 3B Mandy Alvarez: 1-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 3-3, 1 R, 2 2B, 5 RBI — nice game for this year’s 21st rounder
  • RHP Simon De La Rosa: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 1 HB, 6/2 GB/FB — 56 of 90 pitches were strikes (62%)

Rookie Pulaski Game One (6-4 loss to Kingsport in seven innings) they are 3-3 and a half-game back in the East Division

  • CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 2 K
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-3, 1 K, 1 CS
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — has a hit in every game so far
  • LF Leonardo Molina: 1-2, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — second straight game with a jack … he has four homers in 40 total games this year after hitting three homers in 101 games from 2014-15
  • 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-3, 2 K
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 4/0 GB/FB — pro debut for this year’s fourth rounder

Rookie Pulaski Game Two (7-1 win over Kingsport in seven innings) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • DH Estevan Florial: 1-4, 2 R, 2 K — he’s struck out nine times in 30 plate appearances so far (30.0%)
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 0-3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SB
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K
  • 1B Kevin Cornelius: 3-3, 2 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI — the 23-year-old was the team’s 31st round pick in 2013

  • 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Abel Duarte: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 4/3 GB/FB

  • DH Brandon Wagner: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • CF Jordan Scott: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 BB — got picked off first … this year’s tenth rounder has two hits in four games, and they’re both for extra bases (triple, homer)
  • RF Brayan Emery: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Yancarlos Baez: 0-4, 2 K
