6:35pm ET: It’s a bruised right ankle for Warren, the Yankees say. X-rays came back negative. Exhale.
5:55pm ET: A few innings after losing Billy McKinney to a shoulder sprain, the Yankees lost right-hander Adam Warren to an ankle injury. He was hit by an Aledmys Diaz comebacker near his right ankle this afternoon. Warren didn’t appear to lobby much to stay in the game, and he didn’t throw any test pitches. He walked off the field under his own power and seemed to be in good spirits, which I guess is better than the alternative. Here’s the video.
Warren, who was making his season debut, is the Swiss Army Knife reliever and an important part of the bullpen despite not being a high-leverage guy. The good news is the primary late-inning arms are still intact and the Yankees have plenty of pitching depth should Warren miss time. Domingo German, Luis Cessa, Ben Heller, Gio Gallegos … any of them could come up and be the last guy in the bullpen for a while, if necessary.
The Yankees have yet to announce an update on Warren, who will surely go for x-rays and whatnot.
