Down on the Farm

April 11, 2007 by Mike 5 Comments

Yo, Felix flat schooled the Sawx tonight, in the Fens no less. Whaddya think, Hughes-Clippard-Tabata for The King? I’d do it, but I dunno if the M’s brass would…

Triple-A Scranton (10-3 loss to Richmond)
Alberto Gonzalez: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 E (fielding)
Bronson Sardinha: 0 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Andy Phillips: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 K, 1 E (fielding) – played second…
Eric Duncan: 0 for 3, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Andrew Beattie: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB – meet the new career minor leaguer on the block…
Tyler Clippard: 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K – 61 of 92 pitches were strikes (66.3%)

Down on the Farm

I made a pretty substantial error in yesterday’s Down on the Farm: I wasn’t paying full attention to the Double-A box score, and jumped the gun thinking Trenton lost the game after the top of the 9th because they were on the road. In fact, Trenton was home, and they rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, and eventually won in 12. My bad, here’s the box score.

On to tonight’s action:

Triple-A Scranton (4-3 loss to Richmond)
Bronson Sardinha: 2 for 5, 1 2B, 1 RBI – signs of life…
Eric Duncan: 0 for 5, 3 K – coming back to Earth I see…
Shelley Duncan: 3 for 3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 CS
Steven Jackson: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 10-0 GB/FB - just when you thought that deal couldn’t get any better…
TJ Beam: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 E (pickoff)

Triple-A Scranton (8-5 win over Richmond)
Kevin Reese: 1 for 3, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Alberto Gonzalez 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 2 K- moved up to the 2-hole, right where he belongs
Bronson Sardinha: 0 for 4 –after a monster spring, he’s 0 for 2007
Andy Phillips: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K – batted cleanup. No really.
Eric Duncan: 1 for 4, 3 K
Shelley Duncan: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Chris Basak: 3 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Mighty Matt DeSalvo: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 5-1 GB/FB – 77 pitches (44 for strikes, 57.2%) is way to many to throw in 3 innings…
Ben Kozlowski: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K – once upon a time he was one of the best LHP prospects in the game…
Chriss Britton: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

From today’s (Sunday) games…

Triple-A Scranton snowed out. Game will be made up as part of a May 15th doubleheader.

Double-A Trenton scheduled off day.

High-A Tampa scheduled off day. Apparently that’s the only thing that can stop Jose Tabata.

Low-A Charleston (8-1 win over Greenville)
Mitch Hilligoss: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB
Austin Jackson: 1 for 5, 2 K – went 9 plate appearances between strikeouts, a baseball miracle
Chris Malec: 3 for 4, 2 R
Eduardo Nunez: 1 for 3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SB
Josue Calzado: 1 for 2, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 HBP
Wilmer Pino: 1 for 2, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Michael Dunn: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 6-4 GB/FB – this time last year he was a no-hit first baseman…guess the conversion is going well
David Robertson: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K- here’s a guy who could really step up and grab the spotlight with Cox and Melancon out…

Man, Alex is simply scorchin’ the ball this year. After games like that, you wonder how pitchers ever get that guy out.

Triple-A Scranton (5-3 win over Norfolk)
Andy Phillips: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K
Bronson Sardinha: 0 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – threw runners out at second and third from RF
Eric Duncan: 1 for 2, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB – 3 hits so far this year, all for extra bases (1 2B, 2 HR)…couldn’t be happier for the kid
Ross Ohlendorf: 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 5-7 K/BB – eh, hopefully the 32 degree temperature was the culprit
TJ Beam: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Man, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a line drive homer like the one Elijah Dukes hit. Talk about a laser.

Anyways, in honor of Opening Day, here’s the full lineups for all four squads.
