Open Thread: AFC Championship Game
Posted by: | CommentsWell look at this. The Jets, who managed to “back into” the Conference Championship Game, are facing the Colts this afternoon for the right to play for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. These are the same Colts that granted Big Rex’s team a playoff spot in Week 16 by putting helmets on their cheerleaders in the second half. My, how the turntables have … turned.
(Part of that intro may, or may not have been hyperbole.)
Indianapolis bowled over the Ravens last week while the Jets had to pull a 2009 Yankees and come from behind to beat the Chargers. As always, the Jets are going to rely on the league’s best defense to keep them in the game, while pounding away on the ground offensively to limit the potential mistakes of their rookie quarterback. Revis Island will surely keep Reggie Wayne in check, but it’ll be interesting to see who can handle Dallas Clark inside when Peyton fires off those short, quick passes as he’s being blitzed.
The Jets are going to have to get some big plays on special teams (opponent’s are 0-for-5 on field goal attempts against them this postseason) and avoid the turnover at all costs to have a chance. Rex has talked the talk for weeks, and so far his team has walked the walk. Let’s see if they can do it again this week. Enjoy the game.

Open Thread: Ravens at Colts
Posted by: | CommentsRay Lewis and his homies murdered the Patriot’s dynasty last week, and now they’ll deal with the team that was too cool to go undefeated. This should be a good one, chat about it here and enjoy.
Open Thread: Cardinals at Saints
Posted by: | CommentsThis should be a good one. If the Pack managed to drop 45 on Arizona’s D last week, I wonder if Saint Drew & Co. could hang 70+ on ‘em. Should be a fun game, chat about it here.
Yanks donate $500K to Haiti relief efforts
Posted by: | CommentsAs the international community attempts to put together rescue and relief efforts for Haiti in the aftermath of yesterday’s catastrophic earthquake, the Yankees are adding their money to the pot. The team donated $500,000 rescue and relief efforts. “The catastrophic event has devastated an entire nation and will have far-reaching effects in the worldwide Haitian community,” the team said in a statement. “The Yankees hope their donation will inspire people throughout the United States to do everything they can to aid the people of Haiti in their time of need.” Earlier today, The Times had more on how to donate for those who want to help.
Derek maybe not getting married
Posted by: | CommentsWhen we yesterday highlighted a New York Post story claiming that Derek Jeter is getting married in November, we may have jumped the gun a bit. Although the story featured a denial by those in charge of the venue in Huntington, Long Island, the Post seemed pretty convinced of its veracity. Today, though, Craig Calcaterra’s sources tell him that Derek’s sister Sharlee is the one getting married. I just don’t know who or what to believe anymore, but hey, at least my sister still has her chance.

Open Thread: Ravens at Patroits
Posted by: | CommentsThe Pats are without God’s gift to slot receivers, but their key to success is stopping New York’s own Ray Rice. Enjoy the game.
Open Thread: Eagles at Cowboys
Posted by: | CommentsThe Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since Phil Hughes was ten years old. For reals. Enjoy the game.
Open Thread: Jets at Bengals
Posted by: | CommentsAfter putting a hurtin’ on them last week, the Jets line up to face the Bengals once again in today’s AFC Wild Card Game. Another 37-0 beatdown is unlikely, however expect the Jets to use the same smothering defense and brutally efficient ground attack to try and get them their first playoff win since 2004.
Use this thread to talk about this afternoon’s game, which starts at 4:30pm ET and can be seen on NBC.
