I’m still hanging on to my prediction that the Yanks will win 100 games. We’ve been pretty awesome this season, and that’ll look better with a series win in Boston this weekend.
How are the Phillies going to get Michael Young for an average MLB reliever and a low level prospect and Texas will eat half of his salary? HOW??? Little maddening right now. I do not look forward to seeing Easy E Nunez with a glove in his hand next year.
Ooo, shiny new open thread.
Ooo, shiny red ball.

I just saw Ian Kennedy pitch for the first time in over a year, and now I see why he is pitching so much better. He got much bigger and built up in general.
For all who haven’t seen, this cracks me up:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3bUh.....posada.jpg
I was looking, but no “about us” button, top or bottom of the page. What’s the standard of your journalism ethics? Is it okay to root for a player, because you like him; because you like his agent, or his agent likes you?
Just asking. When you expect the reader to take judgments on statistics cooked up, like WAR, FIP, UZR, where who knows what weights in the shadows…
What do you want to know about us? Our names are on everything we post. I like players because I like them, I’ve never interacted with anyone of them, their agents, etc.
I’m saying you should include explicit statements of your stndards of ethics. Journalists can ethically (by tradition, I suppose) incite excitement to develop their market, but it just occurred to me a website that was influential could be subject to influence from well heeled donors, as well as from powerful interests.
Not that I have seen anything that makes me suspicious of your honor, the analysis and opinion I have seen seems to be fair, often team-engaged in a positive way, but I think you should declare your standards.
It’s a baseball blog, chill out bro
The Communists are soliciting RAB!
Hide yo wife and hide yo kids…
I’m afraid you’re confusing the RABbis with the Republicans.
See? Utter faith, and I rest my case.
yikes.
You crazy.
Probably the most interesting thing thats happened in a Marlins game all season: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......d=17335315
Just watching MLBN and they’re showing random clips on Quick Pitch like they do all the time. Ubaldo was on and said that before the game, he was told he was traded. WHY WAS HE ALLOWED TO PITCH?!
I’m only fifteen, and I’m only going to be a junior, but apparently I’ve got to start figuring out what I’m doing someday.
I was thinking: How awesome would it be to get a job in the Yankees FO?
Looking at it, I bet it’s like applying for any other job.
Since I like baseball, my dream would be to play it. But the fact remains I really suck, so that’s not happening. But I know a lot about it, and I have all of college to figure out yet – why not?
This post is fairly self-indulgent, but I just wanted to officially state my mission. I’m doing this.
Yeah!
Go for it. Just do us all a favor and don’t end up like Randy Levine
You take that back.
Don’t be ridiculous, by the time you graduate college, there won’t be any more jobs.
And don’t listen to stuff like this, people will always try to find excuses to bring you down. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this economy is horrible and I’m totally screwed and blah blah blah. Ignore it, just be good at what you do because employers can afford to be picky.

Seems like all the sabre writers did Econ majors. It’s tough but it’s good, you can get a lot of finance jobs with that major too. Just try to get into the best college possible and really bust your ass. Do internships junior and senior year once you’re in.
I was an Econ major. If you don’t like 101, 102, or statistics, don’t do it. I loved everything Econ, so I never had an issue, but I met so many people who saw the signs and continued anyway.
One piece of advice for an Econ major is that it might have been better to have a double major. Unless you plan on going to grad school, it’s easy for an Econ grad to get lost in the job mix. That might be why all the sabre writers are Econ guys. LOL
Great major though. You think about the world in such a cool way.
Jorge DHing vs Lester. No Gardner. Odd start to the series.
Great news day for Red Sox haters!

Thank God you guys put that disclaimer in your “about” section. I was about to think that Mike’s employers also thought that Warren was a good back-of-the-rotation candidate down the stretch. I was getting my lawyers ready and everything.
Eh, I guess it’s for the best.
Braves called up Arodys… oof.
That’s alright. Getting Vasquez guaranteed us the WS in 2010.
Arodys will have a lengthy career before Montero is called up.
This should settle the Blue Jays stealing signs business: http://flamingphoenixofflames......l?spref=tw
What are those triangular cutouts outside the 1st and 3rd baselines for? Best guess is that it provides a little more dirt in the path runners would take as they round 1st or third, but I can’t find anything to back that up.
Why are there two, yes two, fake Eduardo Nunez twitter people out there?
Tigers got Delmon Young. Interesting
He stinks.
Yeah, I am not sure the Tigers got anything worthwhile there.
Any one know who’s pitching for swb on wednesday? I’m going to see a-rod play there and it looks like both dellin and manny are lined up to pitch on wed (both pitched last friday)
nevermind, just saw @swbyankeesTT tweeted that manny will go wednesday and dellin will make his aaa debut thursday
The Giambino hit a walk off HR against Choate. Good for him.
the hr derby doesn’t seem to have affected cano’s swing and power, could it have affected a-gon’s? i don’t think i have heard much about that
When I grow up I want to be a U of Miami football player. Wait. What?
I generally like MLBN’s Prime 9 specials.
But I just saw the one on base-stealers. They ranked Tim Raines #6 and Vince Coleman #4. Hmmm…
Tim Raines: 808 SB, 146 CS, 84.7%
Vince Coleman: 752 SB, 177 CS, 80.9%
It seems that the only reason they ranked Coleman higher was because of his 3 straight 100-steal seasons. That’s great and all, but I can’t see how anyone would think Coleman was better.
You seem to have made the argument, actually. It’s like, why is Babe Ruth a better hitter than Mays/Aaron in spite of inferior stats? It relies on context. Coleman stole almost as many bases in a much shorter time period, and he sucked at getting on base. Stealing so often in so few chances probably pushed him ahead of Raines, who’s definitely the better player.
I actually thought how often they get on base shouldn’t have anything to do with it, but how were they simply at stealing bases. And Raines was better.
mauer’s playing rf and we are facing a triple a lineup, yanks should win 15-0, but for some reason i have a bad feeling
So the Phils are looking to lock up Hamels now too. WTF?!?!
Went over to the shop, and discovered that the robot ump shirt is no longer available. When did it get DFA’d?
And is there a chance it will get called back up in September?
my friend just told me that A-rod is scratched tonight due to a jammed thumb. Got a text from the Yankees sms program.
Yep, saw it on ESPN.com.
Jeez, between this and NY Giants players dropping like flies, I’m ready to hurt myself.
Nick Swisher is awesome! He and his wife who got married last December but did not yet take a honeymoon are finally taking one this off-season. His honeymooon spot is Afghanistan to visit the troops! Thats pretty cool. Gotta give him tons of credit.

“They asked me a lot of questions. I answered them. It went well. I feel great about it. I think they have their information. Now they can report back to the commissioner”
You would be hard pressed to come up with a statement that said less than that.
No offense to Axias as he couldn’t do anything about it and he did a great job of picking up the slack when Ben and Joe weren’t really posting that much, but, it feels like a different site with Ben and Joe back posting heavily again. I thought Ben and Joe might have been slowing down for good, nice to see I was wrong and you guys are back again. At least for now. Looking forward to getting all of the big three back posting again down the stretch and into the playoffs after a much deserved vacation for Axisa. As always, keep up the great work and following the Yanks would literally not be the same without this site.
Hey Pat D, maybe AT&T won’t be taking over T-Mobile.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/.....erger.html
Esteban I think AT&T will definitely take over T-Mobile. At the very least they are going to relentlessly fight the US in court, and I think they have a good case. They’ll lose what, 3 billion if they go back and don’t take over T-Mobile? It’ll definitely happen, only it’s going to be from a nasty legal battle.
Yea, it’s been surreal the last two days.
My mother calls me at 8:30 Wednesday morning and says that my aunt, who works for AT&T, got a message saying AT&T was committed to bringing back 5000 call center jobs that went overseas and keeping all existing call center jobs as well. I told her it just sounded like lip service.
Sure enough, 3 hours later, I’m on Yahoo and the first headline is the DOJ suing to block the merger.
I go to work and there were excited messages from the VP of Tech Care touting the job story, and then all the stuff about the DOJ’s decision. Sure enough, the CEO sent a message saying they are dismayed by the ruling but to just keep doing what you’re doing at your job and all that stuff, but they are still committed to the merger.
Here’s how I feel right now: about the same as before. I felt like I had maybe a 50/50 chance of keeping my job post-merger, but the way things have been lately, I’ve felt that chance constantly decreasing. Now, considering that for AT&T to get this merger to go through they’re probably going to have to spend millions, perhaps billions, I am almost positive that if the merger gets approved, I won’t have a job.
The problem now is wondering what should happen if AT&T is blocked. Doesn’t sound like the government wants Verizon or Sprint trying to buy T-Mobile either, and the parent company is committed to dumping us. So who buys us then? Google? Apple? A cable company? Some venture capitalists? It’s just going to be more of the same.
Right now, I’m just going to do my job as best I can and hope to survive. I don’t feel like looking for another job, I feel I get paid pretty well right now and that I won’t get the same starting over somewhere else.
No post on Montero being in the lineup tonight?
Who?
Explaining WAR on BBTN? Awesome.
And Schilling doesn’t like RBIs and such? Wow, surprised.
He’s still a dick.

It is almost as if the Yanks brought up Montero just to face Lester in order to humble him a little bit. I’m half serious.
I’m very confused. According to the Yankees win/loss record the Yankees as of Sunday morning Sept. 4th should have 25 games left to play. But no matter where I go to check there remaining schedule for September be it the Yankees site, MLB, ESPN, Yahoo, etc. they only show 24 games remaining. WHAT’S MISSING?
They’re missing a game at home against Tampa Bay. Either the July 8 or August 14 rainout hasn’t yet been rescheduled.
Thank you. You have answered my question. I see that 1 of the 2 postponed games has been rescheduled but not the other. Again, thank you. It’s been driving me crazy.
Montero’s homers were 399 and 396 ft., respectively. That’s some pretty serious opposite-field power for a 21-yr-old.
Anyone know how the Yanks are doing in the Dayn Perry “Secret Sauce” meter against the other probably playoff contenders?
I have no idea but wasn’t Secret Sauce proven to not work a little while ago? (Because of Rivera. No, seriously. He threw the whole thing off, apparently.)
Interesting piece MLB Network did on Stephen Strasburg’s return. (And some excellent analysis by Al Leiter, as usual): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=7417714

Utter bullshit. David Stern is as horrible a commissioner as Bud Selig, if not worse.
Daniel Bard is now 2-8. What the hell. How does a reliever get 8 losses. That’s ridiculous.
Brian Fuentes had six by the end of May (only two since, but still).
Fuentes was terrible and on a terrible team. Bard is neither of those. It’s bizarre.

OMG A negative review about a Sawx prospect!
Fun fact: Even if the Red Sox win all their remaining games they still won’t win 100 games.
Fun fact #2:
If the Yankees go 5-5 over their final 10 games, even if Boston went 8-0, they still wouldn’t tie the Yankees.
The Yankees would have to go 4-6 and Boston go 8-0 for them to tie.
Who’s a bigger joke? Gordon Edes or Peter Gammons? It’s telling that ESPN hires Edes to cover the Sox for ESPNBoston but hires thugs like Wally Matthews to cover the Yankees for ESPNNY.

Wow, when did Brian Kenny join MLBN? That’s awesome, I’m a big fan of his. He’s into other stats too…
This was Brian Kenny’s first week anchoring MLBN.
After showing the Brad Pitt / Billy Beane interview with Bob Costas, Kenny and Harold Reynolds were arguing over which type of players hold more value relative to others and Harold said that he doesn’t particularly care for players who draw a lot of walks because they don’t score. It’s like Brian Kenny never left ESPN.

I noticed that Ellsbury’s BAbip this year is at .340. That’s high, but not outrageously high, and for a guy with his skillset – speed, random walls in LF et. al., is it foreseeable that this is his BAbip going forward?
His career avg is .326 is 2200+ PA, so I’d probably defer to that. Hardly a big drop though. If the power is for real he’s a legit 5 tool guy.
But the .326 was accumulated in ~1500 PA’s, which, while beyond SSS, still seems small enough to be flexible when it comes to BAbip.
I guess it’s possible. I was curious to see what some of the faster guys’ career BABIPs look like, highest I could find was Bourn at .341 over 2600+ PA.
Suzuki’s been playing for over ten years at a ~.350 BABIP. Of course, he’s also got a unique hitting profile.
Ah, how could I forget. Although it seems like those days might be over.
The 1927 Yankees just clinched the third best record in the AL East.
Congratulations!
Am I the only one who’s totally not buying that fWAR says Miguel Cabrera and Alex Gordon both had better seasons than Granderson?
Have you seen Cabrera’s Triple Slash?
.344/.448/.586
Granderson
.262/.364/.552
I’m not buying Gordon though.
Yeah, Cabrera’s slash is pretty insane. I knew that, though. Maybe it’s just narrative infecting my mind.

You don’t remember that July 4th game against the Indians where the Yankees got screwed over by AUSTIN KEARNS and SHELLEY DUNCAN?

Mike Newman: I haven’t received a single report on Ranaudo that saw him as more than a 3-4 starter. In essence, I heard a bunch of people saying the same thing – “Is this all 2.5 million gets these days?”
The best comment on the Boston Herald article:
“Much of the story seems to be the typical CYA management plant[sic] to denigrate the person they fired and justify their post-season actions (and inaction during the season). What a slimy bunch. Where else could the sordid implications re Tito’s marriage and his (nudge nudge wink wink) “drug abuse” come from? Fire him and stick a knife in his back afterwards, would not expect any less from Henry (note how the eyes have gotten even slittier — pre-nuptial plastic surgery?), Lucchino and Werner.”
Leave out the plastic surgery part and the comment is gold.
The fire him and stick a knife in his back afterwards fits the Red Sox M.O. perfectly.

Remember when CC Sabathia was worth his contract?
So do I. It was THE PAST THREE SEASONS.
People…
..Okay and?
It’s an OT vent on how often I see people complaining about CC. Gimme a break.
People saying Friedman would never leave the Rays for the Angels have a rosier picture of the Rays’ future in Tampa than their owner recently revealed. Friedman worked in the investment field before becoming GM. He certainly understands the concept of selling short.
Way too many ESPN articles trying to say if we re-sign CC it could turn into the Burnett signing.. Couldn’t be anymore absurd… As far as I’m concerned, yes the AJ signing has not given us the results we desired, but I won’t forget his start this year versus the Tigers or the start in Game 2 versus the Phillies in 2009. Yah AJ was 82.5 million dollars of drama, but you can’t forget the big games he won. Comparing CC to AJ is literally comparing apples to oranges… only @ ESPN…
I compared Montero to Napoli last year. I didn’t expect people would like it, but I was surprised that some thought the comparison made no sense at all. Wonder if they still feel that way?

I actually went into his chat the next day and said the same thing, albeit in nicer terms, but I did conclude my question by telling him to “get real.”
He actually posted it and answered it. His response was lame, something like “Hey, I can dream, can’t I?” but the fact that he even posted the rather insulting question made him go up a notch.
Granted, that still only puts him at Notch Negative 3,548, but it’s a start.

Just have a couple of things to get off my chest since my comments didn’t post for whatever reason.
1. Jesus Montero – If he’s traded, the only way I’d be lifted out of my depression would be if the Yankees sign Yu Darvish and Prince Fielder.
2. John Danks – He’s good, but he was referred to as an “absolute beast” in one comment thread. He is definitely not an “absolute beast”. Even though I’m not the biggest Danks fan, I don’t resent him nearly as much as I did back when people were willing to deal Montero for him.
The Giants don’t learn from their mistakes. They trade Sanchez for good ol’ Melky, thinking that Melky is going to repeat his year from last year, evidently.
Haven’t they been making this same mistake with guys like Huff and Torres over the last couple years. Aren’t they being silly in believing that Vogelsong will be good again next year?
It’s Brian Sabean, what do you expect? Not that Sanchez is great, but I have to think someone would have topped that offer.
I guess I’m still remembering that he made a great trade about 15 years ago (the Matt Williams/Jeff Kent swap) and think he’s still capable of doing the same or something.
Terrific new show for fans of the analysis here? Clubhouse Confidential on MLBN. Weekdays, hosted by Brian Kenny, they analyze everything used advanced analytics/metrics and those kinds of things. They just went through an analysis of Pujols’ free agency and trends using only OBP, SLG, WAR, BB%, and FB%.

Nothing to see here.
Joe Paterno got FIRED. So much for retiring after the season.
This is a commenting test.
This is meant to be taken with a grain of salt, but what if a team signed a relief pitcher such as Papelbon or Soriano – guys with past starting experience – to a relief pitcher type deal (3-4 years, 10-12 per) and converted him into a starter? Definitely more of a PS3 maneuver where you can ignore all of the potentially negative factors but it just came to mind as a way to get a starting pitcher on the cheap.
Ugh, now the Players Union is filing an anti-trust case against the NBA. Why couldn’t they accept the league’s 50-50 offer? I want my basketball, goddammit.
Because it’s hard to be forced into a 7% paycut or else we’ll cut your pay 10% instead ultimatum?
Okay, I was unaware that the previous CBA gave the players 57% of all basketball related income. I’m almost sure that the hardline deal the owners proposed that caused this fiasco was probably in retaliation for the recent trend of players “jumping” to bigger markets. It should be in both sides’ best interests, though, to get the NBA season back on track because neither side is making money as of now (especially the poor players who live off of their salaries) and I was really looking forward to having a competitive basketball team in the New York area for the first time since the 90′s (the Nets don’t count).
Marlins offer Pujols 9 years? Wow.

Red Sox trade Weiland and Lowrie for Melancon. Guess they think his Houston stint will carry over back to the East instead of his stint in NY.
should of kept…………
Yeah, is it just me or is that entirely too much to give up for an unproven, nondescript middle reliever? I mean, he’s really a closer in title only, IMO. An up-the-middle player with upside remaining (who could potentially start) and a back of the rotation starting pitcher?
Ben Cherington. This could be an interesting few years.
A back of the rotation starting pitcher when they desperately need pitching, to boot.
2012 Boston Red Sox:
Lester
Beckett
Buchholz (probably)
Aceves
And……?
Beckett is never healthy for an entire season.
Buchholz just had structural damage in his back
Aceves, while I love what he did for us, also has had health issues.
Although who am I to criticize, not like the Yankees rotation is much better.
Here’s hoping for Darvish.
Per MLB Trade Rumors:
“•The Yankees seem to like Hiroki Kuroda more than the other free agent pitchers, according to Heyman.”
If they don’t get Darvish, I’m fine with that decision.
so does goldman sachs own rab now? haha what’s with the gs banner?
Holy crap, Mat Latos was just traded (mlbtr). Dang, thats crazy.
Hopefully, cutting payroll and letting the younger player play in the coming years will tun out like it did in the late 90s with these players taking over the roles of the older players:
Montero-Posada
Mason Williams-Bernie Williams
Banuelos-Pettite
Culver-Jeter
Mariano Rivera-Mariano Rivera
/pipedream
Why do I find it unsurprising that only the Mets would need to stipulate to one of their players that if they kill themselves trying to climb Everest they’d automatically void their contract? It’s like Alderson is daring Dickey in order to lower their payroll.
Cano’s the most overrated player in the sport per Dave Cameron. He’s worse than ESPN in terms of being “fair and balanced” toward the Yankees.
Any chance Edwin would be interested in 3/$36ish deal? Madson/Boras just signed a 1yr deal. If Jackson lights it up, he could be due for a big deal at 31. Maybe a 5yr deal with opt out after 2??
I really think(hope) Edwin could retain the lessons he got from Dave Duncan and pair them with Rothchild’s(sp?) plus being able to pick the mind’s of CC & Mo and turn himself into a true 1A.
Kobe is playing like a beast – consecutive drops of 40+. Maybe that “controversial” knee procedure will help Arod.
I cannot belive he is playing like that with his bad wrist.
If the Rangers don’t sign Darvish, is Darvish an Int’l Free Agent next year or does he have to get posted again?
He’s a FA in Japan next year but won’t be an int’l FA for another three years.

Yankees are having serious talks with Bill Hall.

Great hometown article on “Rookie Davis”. Young man is 18 years old, just got his driver’s license and throwing 95 mph… really fun & interesting piece.

Someone on twitter asked Keith Law it would be too favorable of a comparison to say that Yoenis Cespedes looks/feels/seems like Justin Upton.
I have no words.
Just opened up the new SI with Lin on the cover to see a great photo of Montero in the cage in Arizona. Page 20.

http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.....8;c_id=mlb New York wanted to trade Burnett for Abreu but Burnett used his no trade clause
Okajima just failed his physical. NOW WE’RE GONNA SUX THIS YEAR!!!!
At least we still have future closer™ Manny Delcarmen.
Will be in NY for the Home Openner and considering going, but gotta wait to see how the weather is before I buy tickets, as I don’t live in the area and probably wouldn’t be able to make it to the make-up game (leaving NY on Saturday). Never been to a Home Openner. Hope the weather is good and we can go. Made the suggestion to my wife and she was all for it! Hooray!!
Just did a GIS on Meredith Marakovits. She’ll do.
Why are the comments closed? Did it get a little crazy in there?
The Kim Jones thread got pretty disgustingly sexist. I figured I’d just cut out the middle man and keep them closed this time.
That bad? Didn’t read them. What did I miss?
Arodys Vizcaino just had tommy john surgery :/ http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....8;c_id=atl
Sucks for him, I generally like and want former yankees prospects to do well, but maybe makes the decision to trade him for javy a little less bitter. Not a lot, but a bit?
Hey Mike,
Any report or post upcoming on Tex?
Despite all the discussion regarding his swing coming into 2012 season, we havent had any in depth analysis of differences between this ST and last year’s plate approach from the left side, unless i missed it, which is very possible.
Anyway, what major changes has he made? Does he look better from the left side? Has there been tangible results from the changed approach? Inquiring minds need to know!
Colon continues to tear it up.
These Off-Topic threads have really slowed down.
A-Rod likes Miami!
“A-Rod was so thrilled by Marlins Park that he held a news conference at the stadium to let everyone know just how thrilled he is. He grew up in nearby West Kendall and keeps his offseason home in Miami.”
With the deal Cain just got, who can even afford Hamels? Hamels might break CC’s and Lee’s deal.
I just won the RAB bracket challenge, only 10pt difference, close one.
The gauntlet has been thrown down. Kentucky wins the National Title in basketball, the Yankees must win the World Series to maintain tradition.
Kontos for Stewart.
WTF??
Get Craig Tatum for nothing and then give up potentially useful bullpen diff for essentially the same player with a different name.
*bullpen depth
Are you guys not accepting donations anymore, or am I just too stupid to find it on the website?
That Lysol ad is hideous. Those types of ads made me stop going to nomaas completely.
It’s extremely annoying to scroll around a page trying to find the source of the audio that is covering up the music or podcast I’m trying to listen to.
Hear hear. I can never understand why advertising people don’t see that ads like that, that foist themselves upon people over and over, create an active animosity towards the brand. In any case, however, I would like to move to strongly urge RAB to do something to get rid of it, and other ads that make unbidden noise, as they create a very strong disincentive to visit the site.
So Johnny Damon signed with the Indians…he’s officially become the Vinny Testeverde of baseball. Wow, wish him the best…still love him for the double steal. Always will. Hope he gets to the Hall someday.
What do you mean vinny testaverde??? It’s always been his dream to play in Cleveland and he hoped all along to be able to sign with them…
Can we give that shitty joke up? Look when free agents are desperate their agents do weird things to get them signed. He was productive as a Yankee and he’s got an honest shot at 3000, which is cool.
As to Vinny Testaverde…well he was always good, but not great, and stuck around for forever and played for everyone. Kinda like Damon.
What does boras doing
Damn iPad, anyway,
What does boras doing or saying things this year have to do with Damon using the same pitiful lines every time he’s gone to one of his thousand new teams over the course of his career? He’s even more fake than most other athletes, which is really saying something.
Raul Ibanez always looks surprised when he hits the ball.
Why does it bother me when a person in the sports writing business says that Verlander’s season last year was one of the top 10 best ever pitching seasons?
It probably wasn’t even top ten in the 2000s. Randy Johnson alone has like, four seasons ahead of Verlander this century.
Randy Johnson in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004
Pedro Martinez in 2000, 2002, and 2003 was just insane.
Curt Schilling in 2001 and 2002
Im sure there are more. But that’s 9 in just in the 2000s.
I’d put Greinke’s season over that season too.
Any chance tonight’s game gets played? What is the weather doing in the NE?
It’s supposed to start pouring this afternoon and keep going until the morning, so I doubt they play. I’m sure ESPN will delay the announcement of the postponement as long as humanly possible.
Thanks. I’m going to make dinner plans then.
Well, now that I’ve found the Off-Topic thread…any idea when we’ll get MRI results back on Pineda? Today? Tomorrow?
O, HAI!
I just now found this thread after some bored poking around the webpage, and wish I had an an accurate answer for you. Unfortunately, I don’t even know when the appointment is scheduled for, soooooo…yeah.
I think Mike has a Pineda update ready to go. He’s just waiting for the news. It’s like when Sinatra died every news outlet had something ready to go. Not that I’m comparing it to an obituary.
Bad news by all accounts. I don’t even want to hear it at this point.
Matsui to the Rays.
O NOES!
Hey Ben,
Can we get a sanctimonious post about how Delmon Young is evil and should have his livelihood taken away (no jury needed, right?) because there’s a rumor that he might possibly have said something anti-semetic?
I’m looking forward to your venom, just like with the ‘rumors’ about Ronan Tynan that you reported as stone cold facts. ‘Journalism’, right?
Ok…go!
You got bullied and beaten up by a lot of jocks back in highschool, didn’t you?
Go. Away. Fat man.

Why would you wear Red Sox gear to Yankee Stadium when the Red Sox aren’t there?
Aside from that, I’m generally against New York fans doing this kind of shit, makes the rest of us look bad.
I’m not a huge hockey guy, but I would watch more if I could and I’ve been taping and watching all the Rangers games so far.
Given that, why does it sound like the analysts keep saying it’s a good thing that Ovechkin is getting less playing time? Isn’t he one of the best players in the league? Why not get him as much time as you can?
Also as an aside, why does it not look like the Rangers were the best team in the conference? Are they just not playing well now or is this just the nature of the beast where they’re not quite at their best, or am I just an amateur?
They overachieved this year but are still really good. They just play a pretty boring brand of hockey, not much skill or many spectacular plays. Defense-first and puck possession. They wait for the other team to make mistakes to the extreme.
Hey, is it possible to get an ignore feature? There are some relatively new posters that repeat the same bullshit over and over and it is making it difficult to read some threads.
My buddy just showed me this today, don’t know if you guys have seen it yet.
Standard 10 team mixed league, Bryan LaHair, Jason Kipnis and Ricky Romero for Sean Rodriguez, Luke Scott and CC Sabathia. Who wins? My love of Sabathia and hatred of Luke Scott is clouding my mind.
Thinking of changing my name to “Lexington Steele’s Bigger Brother”. Too childish? Will people get it? Offensive? (no worse than Peter North I guess.)
River Dogs will get the game in this afternoon, the sun is out and rain should hold off but the Wind is insane here now (effect of Tropical Storm to SE). I’m not at the Joe yet so don’t know if this wind is blowing in or out but if it’s blowing out…
Since this is a River Dogs comment I thought I’d reply here.
I had no idea that Bill Murray was part owner of the River Dogs:

Next great idea. If Drabek tears his UCL a third time, sign him on the condition that he can’t get it fixed. Then find the guy that taught RA Dickey the knuckleball and boom!
NY Post, so take with grain of salt but direct quotes of Kevin Long on Melky Cabrera …”he has totally gotten committed to his career, he doesn’t drink, his personal trainer is with him all the time. When you go all in and have talent, this is what happens-and it is evident he has talent.”
Sounds to me that he is implying that Melky 1. Drank too much in his Yankee days, and 2. Was clearly not All-In then.
“If Melky had committed himself to the Yankees as he does now, he’d still be a Yankee…and he would say the same thing. He made himself tradeable then.”.
Wow!
I know this may be a little stupid, but do Alex Rodriguez and Bryce Harper become free agents the same year (assuming Harper doesn’t sign any extension with Boras)? Because that would work perfectly.
And I know, this is why everybody hates Yankee fans

Fuck it.
Mets fans outraged that the guy they didn’t bother to vote for got snubbed for the ASG. Funny, nobody cares when deserving Yankees get snubbed.
Greinke asked about the egregious breach of etiquette by Carlos Zambrano running over the mound after making an out:
“He ran on the mound? Like, I don’t know where that Braden-guy thought anything was wrong with that. I think people do it all the time. I don’t understand the problem with doing that.”
And this was even after a pseudo-HBP battle between the two. It’s awesome that even when Braden is invisible to the baseball universe, he can ba bashed by someone who has nothing to even do with the situation.
Mason Williams just got promoted to Tampa!
Hahah, I thought I was breaking news when I saw this on Mason’s Twitter this morning, but just read last night’s DOTF and there it was, broken last night. All this tech, and I’m still 12 hours behind.
Penn State athletes responding to the sanctions:
Hahaha that’s awesome. Kudos for using the off topic thread too.
Did we break the website? Is anyone else getting database errors all over the place?
I’ve recently come across an absolute treasure. An incredible piece of baseball history. A complete radio broadcast of a Yankees-Tigers game from 1934. Enjoy.
The U.S. basketball team should be ashamed of itself. This should have been a 20 point win. a ONE point difference over three quarters? Only a SEVEN point win??? They should be ashamed.
And they have the BALLS to compare themselves to the Dream Team.
I haven’t bothered keeping track of the NFL during the offseason for awhile, but anyway I DVR’d the Giants game against the Jaguars.
I had no idea that the refs were holding out, but let me just say, WOW are these replacements terrible. I’ve only watched one half of the first game, but they seem to miss a ton of calls on both sides and even when the end call is correct they go about it the wrong way so no one knows what the hell is going on.
It’s amazing to say, but please come back regular refs!
Melky Cabrera, owner of the NL’s second-highest batting average and the All-Star Game MVP, was suspended 50 games after testing positive for testosterone.
So surprising he would test positive after working out with ARod and immediately becoming a superstar. Just one of those mysteries of life.
And now Colon too. Again, just shocked at this stunning turn of events.

I fucking hate Ian O’connor. Even more than before now.
strike(test, duh)Hey Lost iphone 4s at Yankee Stadium last night vs Toronto, LF Field Level seats.. If anyone find it, contact 516-242-9894.. Its a black iphone in a Han Solo case. Thanks people.
What is undeniable, according to scouts and other baseball people who have closely followed his starts, is that Strasburg was beginning to struggle physically…… His mechanics had subtly changed, so that he appeared to be overthrowing in order to maintain his signature velocity. At times, he was falling toward first base at the end of his delivery. Scouts saw it. The Nationals saw it.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/s.....nM-;_ylv=3
Did reporters ask Johnson about his health 5 times per post game conference? Get some NY media down to DC asap!
Wow. For once, a dude from Yahoo totally nailed it. This new wildcard system sucks, and for the exact reasons he gives.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/1.....-race.html
I really hate Bud as commissioner. He sucks.
As far as awful commissioners go I think Goodell’s on top of the list as of now. THREE primetime games decided by shitty calls within a week.
I think all commissioners suck. They have served their purpose. Why the owners just don’t hire a PR specialist, Labor Atty and Conduct/Good of Game person baffles my mind. Also, why do they make so much money? I’m not entirely sure what it is they do.
Holy fucking shit is Oakland incredible.
Now we need to win to get the number 1 seed, assuming they hold on.
did anybody else have an unlucky fantasy season?
I played in 9 money leagues, finished 4th twice, 3rd twice and 2nd 5 times. I lost the championship in two of those leagues on the very last day. At least I made some nice profit.
I have to say that I put a TON of time into preparing for each fantasy season, so not winning at least 1 league stinks.
Just listening to the CIN/SF game while having Game Day up. I wonder if this stuff will get lost, but Latos threw 2 strikes to Crawford. Both were called balls (The SF radio guys also thought they were strikes). From 0-2 to 2-0. Next pitch is down the middle and hit for a triple.
Of course you can’t say what would happen, but the inning could have ended much differently if the pitches were called correctly.
Robot-umps now!
Have to say Robot-umps would take some of the most memorable moments away
e.g. Don Denkinger, Jeffrey Maier, Jim Joyce, etc.
However, something like the NFL where you get maybe a few challenges per game, and if you challenge wrong you can’t pinch hit or pinch run that inning.
Have to say Robot-umps would take some of the most memorable
momentsthings that didn’t happen except in the umpire’s mind away. This is a good thing. I came to watch a real baseball game, not the umpire’s imaginary one.

I hope Ortiz falls off a cliff (production-wise, not literally) now that he’s signed his new 2-year deal with the BoSox. Either that, or they find he’s been using PEDs. :-0
I knew some Americans are pretty crazy but this!?

So Mike Piazza denies taking steroids and denies being gay according to his new autobiography. In both cases, far from it, faaaaarrrr from it.
Wow this off topic thread has been open for almost 2 full years.
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…….
And how many World Series have the Yankees won in that time?
Coincidence? I think not…
maaaaan, public fantasy leagues are such a pain in the ass. In one of my leagues one dude just traded Kemp, King Felix, Kinsler, Y. Molina, Hanley and Nathan for Freese, de Aza, Miley, Lincecum, Madson and Crisp. Of course I was the only one that vetoed the trade -_-
Francesa is a fucking idiot.
He keeps asking “What pitchers, what seasons were as dominant as Koufax’s five years?”
When somebody pointed out Pedro he practically laughed at them.
Really, Mike? Let’s review:
Best ERA of their career:
Pedro, 1.74, 2000
Koufax, 1.73, 1966
Number of runs scored in their respective leagues those years:
2000 AL-11995
1966 NL-6624
I mean, come on. That’s nuts.
But forget that. Let’s compare the ERA+ of their top five years, so it’s scaled to league average pitching.
Pedro’s: 219, 243, 291, 202, 211
Koufax’s: 143, 159, 186, 160, 190
My hair is a bird, Francesa. A FUCKING BIRD. Your argument is invalid.
http://www.google.com/imgres?i.....8;dur=1455
So sad what happened in Boston today.
I’ve never done this on RAB before, but I’m going to ask a fantasy related question.
I have a trade on the table in a 40 roster spots deep Rotisserie OBP league. There are barely any interesting hitting options on the board. It’s a tough league.
I’m being offered Pujols for my Kubel and Trumbo.
I feel like I’d have to make the trade since Kubel just sits on my bench, but should I be more worried about Pujols’ foot problem? Apparently he’s dealt with plantar fasciitis in 2004, 2005, and 2006, so am I just being stupid?
I should do the trade right? I don’t know. Help please.
Depends on how many keepers. If it’s all keepers, screw that. Trumbo will be much more valuable down the road. However, for this season, I wouldn’t bet my money on either one to be better. It really is just your call on whether Trumbo would out-produce Pujols (and more about how you would need a 3B vs need for 1B.
