The Yankees-Red Sox game is coming up later on tonight, so let’s get the notes out of the way a little earlier than usual…
- Biggest news of the day is Frankie Cervelli’s fractured foot. He’ll be out six-to-eight weeks, opening the door for Jesus Montero (or Austin Romine or Gustavo Molina) to make the team as the backup catcher. “We’re, knock on wood, catching deep,” said Brian Cashman. “We’re covered.” (Erik Boland)
- Rafael Soriano threw some live batting practice today (20 pitches), the first time he’s done that this spring. He’ll do it once more before getting in a game. Mariano Rivera will probably throw some live BP within a few days, and those two might actually appear in a game sometime next week. Crazy, I know. (Yankees PR Dept.)
- A.J. Burnett, Sergio Mitre, David Phelps, and Hector Noesi threw their side sessions without issue. Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher did outfield work as a group. For whatever reason, the Yankees have kept those three together all spring, on road trips and what not. (Chad Jennings)
- Minor league players and staff officially report tomorrow, though I imagine most are already there anyway. (Jennings)
