The Yankees are on a bit of a roll right now. They’ve won eight of their last ten games and were able to overcome multi-run deficits each of the last two days. The bullpen figures to be short tonight thanks to the recent workloads of some key relievers, so tonight it’ll be up to Masahiro Tanaka to soak up innings and the offense to build a comfortable lead.
Kevin Gausman will be on the mound for the Orioles, which is notable because he and Greg Bird were high school teammates in Colorado, and they remain good friends. Tonight is the first time they will face each other as pros. “We used to make fun of him because all he would do was go hit and go to bed. But now he’s here and he belongs,” said Gausman to Dan Martin when asked about Bird. Here is Baltimore’s lineup and here is New York’s lineup:
- CF Jacoby Ellsbury
- RF Carlos Beltran
- C Brian McCann
- DH Alex Rodriguez
- 1B Greg Bird
- LF Chris Young
- SS Didi Gregorius
- 2B Stephen Drew
- 3B Brendan Ryan
RHP Masahiro Tanaka
We got a little taste of July in September here in New York today. It was hot as hell, temperatures were in the mid-90s all day, and it was sunny. No clouds for shade. It’ll be a little cooler for the game tonight. First pitch is scheduled for a bit after 7pm ET and you can watch on YES. Enjoy the game.
