Game Two: Far East Matchup

By Mike Axisa

Wang & UeharaThe last time we saw Chien-Ming Wang take the mound was, well last Friday, but the last time we saw him take the mound in a game that actually meant something was June 15th of last year, when you know what happened. Wang said that ten month hiatus felt like five years, and I’m pretty sure we can all agree with that. He had a good spring, putting up a 4.15 ERA in 21.2 IP covering 6 starts, but hopefully he gets back to being the dominant groundball pitcher he was before the injury.

The Wanger will be opposed by Japanese import Koji Uehara, who will be making his North American debut. The first Japanese born player in Orioles history, Uehara is a nine year vet of the Japanese leagues, where he was a teammate of Hideki Matsui with the Yomiuri Giants. As Tyler Kepner noted, he won the Sawamura Award in 2002 (Cy Young equivalent), the same year Godzilla was named league MVP and Yomiuri won the league title. Uehara is known as an extreme strike thrower, racking up just 195 unintentional walks in 1,354 career innings (1.30 BB/9) on the other side of the lake. Those kind of pitchers have been known to give the Yanks’ fits, but hopefully they can buck that trend tonight.

Tiny bit of roster news before we get to the lineups: Dan Giese was claimed off waivers by the A’s. Judging by their current pitching situation, he might make it back in the bigs before long. We wish him well. Here’s tonight’s lineup, same as Monday’s:

Jeter, SS
Damon, LF
Teixeira, 1B
Matsui, DH
Posada, C
Cano, 2B
Nady, RF
Ransom, 3B
Gardner, CF

And on the mound, the Taiwanese Terror, Chien-Ming Wang.

Notes: I thought Chris Britton was getting the shaft with the Yanks, but the Padres sent him to Double-A. Poor guy … how do you define yourself as a Yankees fan? … don’t forget to vote in this week’s Fan Confidence Poll if you haven’t already … please consider contributing to our Pledge Drive benefitting Joe Torre’s Safe At Home Foundation if you haven’t already, it’s a great cause.

Expired Milk says:

I really wanted to see Burnett get the ball for game 2 but seeing Wang in a regular season game is good too.

Vin R says:

Let’s go Wang, he deserves a 20 win season.

pat says:

Ugh I see this guy giving us headaches. I sure hope I’m wrong.

Vin R says:

well Kei Igawa gave us headaches too. actually, more like migraines.

pat says:

Kei Igawa gave me the itus.

I thought it was the -itis?

pat says:

For white people its the itus.

Gotcha.

Damn ebonics got me spellin’ words all types of eff’d up.

Yankeegirl49 says:

Im glad Burnett is going tomorrow, cause so am I!!

To Baltimore?

I’ll guess you’re from South Jersey?

Reggie C. says:

Bold Prediction: I think Wang saves the season tonight!

Yankee fans, just when I think you can’t get any dumber, you go and do something like this…

… and TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!!!

Slugger27 says:

show em how u roll chien-ming

Rematch of the 2004 Athens olympics Taiwan vs Japan game (Wang blew the lead in the 7th after 6 inning of shutout and then Taiwan blew it in the 10th , ugggh)

pat says:

Tim says:

Nice. C’mon Jeets. Let’s see if ya got any wheels.

VO says:

Of course he has wheels, he has an edge.

If he was shaving with an Edge Razor in his Ford Edge, he’d be so edgy he could have a starring role in a film in one of those West Village movie houses.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Baltimore fans are bitter just a little.

Tex should have signed with Baltimore out of the goodness of his heart. Forget the lack of a competitive bid for his services and tens of millions of dollars. What a douche.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

The booing was cute the first game, now its just stupid. If the Red Sox fans boo him for any other reason than being a Yankee, then they’re bigger idiots than they already are.

The first thing Tex did this January after signing his Yankee contract was to fly to the Baltimore metro area and personally punch everyone’s grandmother in the stomach.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

There is no way that he punched Omar Little’s grandmother in the face.

What’s also stupid is the notion that it bothers him. I hope that’s not true, but even if it is I don’t think it means much. Johnny Damon was bugged when he returned to Boston in 2005 and got booed heavily and has done nothing but produce since then (first 2 months of 2007 excluded).

Vin R. says:

Oriole fans think Mark Teixeira betrayed them because their GM talked to him once

They’re pissed that his favorite player as a kid was Don Mattingly and not Boog Powell.

They’re even more pissed that he’s not going to do a reprise of the old Jim Palmer Jockey Ad.

http://baseball.dailyskew.com/.....709882.jpg

Now they have nothing to hang from their ceilings, and Jim’s poster is getting old and sticky.

Eric says:

I’m watching the Baltimore braodcast and under his 2008 stat line it actually says “Native of Severna Park, Maryland”. O’s fans are so bitter.

Robinson Cano:
Native of Dominican Republic, Maryland

VO says:

For get Cano their going right for Roberto Alomar

Tim says:

I hate to hate on the guy, but it’s so easy to say that Tex has effectively taken A-Rod’s place (complete the joke here)

Raf says:

i could see him pressing this series but i think he’ll be fine once they get out of Bmore.

pat says:

Is this guy really throwing a 55 mph changeup?

Chris K says:

The YES radar gun blows.

Adventures of the YES gun.

Tim says:

It’d be nice if highway patrol used the same radar guns.

mko says:

No. It’s around 80mph. And for the most part they’re doing a good job laying off of it as it dives out of the strike zone.

Ugggh, when you don’t put together anything against a guy who only threw 50% strike in that inning, it’s not a good start.

pete says:

is anyone else having trouble getting the video to play on mlb.tv? I’ve logged in and it just shows me things i can buy. I’m pretty sure i’ve already bought them at least once or twice, and i’m worried they’ve charged me more than that. Why won’t an actual media player come up? I live in boston so the game shouldn’t be blacked out.

Steve H says:

Great article by Simmons on A-Rod and team chemistry.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=4050462

Good article. If Alex got a few big hits in the postseason (like Reggie did) all the other stuff would be meaningless, or even better, part of WHY they succeeded in the eyes of the media. Then it becomes part of a winning formula.

I’m reading a book on the 39 Yanks right now. Ty Cobb was considered to be a selfish ballplayer, what they called back then an ‘individual ballplayer’. Ruth was considered to be a show boater, they derisively called him ‘a fans player’. Honus Wagner and Lou Gehrig were thought of as team guys, called ‘a ballplayers player’ or ‘manager’s players’. Interestingly, the Yanks never won World Series with Gehrig unless Ruth or DiMaggio was on the team. The year Ruth left (1935), they fell to 89 wins and attendance dropped by 1/4.

This shit goes back forever.

ZOMG teh Wang is only throwing 58!1!!

Eric says:

MASN doesn’t even have a gun, I think I’m happier not knowing than seeing what the YES gun throws out there.

radnom says:

Huh?
I’m watching the MASN feed on MLB.tv and there is a radar reading for every pitch.

Jamal G. says:

Oof, Carlos Pena has started the season 0-for-5 with 5 K’s.

That woulda been a double / triple during the last 7 season

Tim says:

That’s the Wang i missed.

Tim says:

pat says:

Effing adam jones is going to haunt us forever.

Effing adam jones is going to haunt torment us forever.

Only ex-players or ones that got away should “haunt” us, IMO. We never really had a shot at Adam Jones.

Curt Schilling, he is going to haunt us forever.

pat says:

No he haunts because all I ever see of him is his specter flying around the basepaths.

Chris K says:

Seriously, Adam Jones what do you have against us?

Tim says:

I’m telling you, Adam Jones is going to hit 30 homers with a Gold Glove this year.

Is it me, or does he look like Eric Davis Part Deux?

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

When he steals 80 bases, then I’m with ya.

http://www.baseball-almanac.co.....ograph.jpg
http://breakdown360.files.word.....jones.jpeg

No? Nobody?

6′2, 195, fleetfooted African American 5-tool heart-of-the-order centerfielders? No?

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

First of all, like Colbert, I don’t see race. Secondly, you may be right. Thirdly, Eric Davis’ bones were hollow, like a bird, its true.

Thirdly, Eric Davis’ bones were hollow, like a bird, its true.

More room for cocaine and alcohol.

John says:

Adam Jones clearly is auditioning for big-deal from the Yanks

Flynn says:

Spring Training ended Saturday.

3 straight doubles = bad

Please stop now.

E-ROC says:

Sinkerballers and their live arms…………

Derek Lowe says hello.

E-ROC says:

Brandon Webb says hi.

A-Rod would have had that shit. Bah.

mko says:

Ransom also failed to make some makeable plays on Monday…

Tony says:

I feel like we can’t beat the Orioles. It’s quite sad

Oh Lord, is Kay going to get into how much higher CMW’s ERA is with men on base than it is with the bases empty.

Eric says:

Isn’t every pitchers ERA higher with men on base?

shhhhhhh…

Side-note: The 2009 Yankees have a 0-1 record when scoring 5 or more runs.

You mean that when there are men on base, teams tend to score?

WHAT KIND OF CRAZY TALK IS THAT?

Mister Delaware says:
Chris K says:

Are there re-do’s? I’d like a re-do on the 1st?

No?

Alright…

pat says:

It’s alright 2 runs ain’t sh*t. CMW is a little geeked up to be back on the mound. Now that they have a taste for blood the O’s are gonna be slamming the sinker into the dirt for the next 6 innings.

There’s another 8 innings left, so there is no need to panic. Wang will settle in, the offense will get to Uehara, and we won’t have to listen to more panic from the rags tomorrow.

Positivity now! Positivity forever (or until the 7th inning)!

VO says:

Why the 7th? Everyone knows the 8th is the most important.

Uehara will struggle the second and third time around, unless he breaks out something offspeed (slider, curve, etc.). I can’t imagine that fastball/change combo will work once everyone sees both. He got Tex on the change, which now he’ll have seen the second time around.

southernyankeefan says:

not the inning i was hoping for from wang. his change up is looking nasty though.

GoTerpsGo says:

Very nice offspeed pitch low and diving away. C’mon Wanger put ‘em in their place – on the bench!

John says:

Posada looks a little like Peja Stojakovic (sp?)

Jamal G. says:

Robbie Cano is the man.

He basically “flicked” a pitch off the corner away and hit a laser to left. He took an ass out swing and still hit a rope. Impressive.

But, if he was a “hard worker”, that probably would have been a homer.

[/Lombardi'd]

That stuff goes back to his minor league days. Its not just something that was made up last year. It also showed up in Torre’s book. Bowa loved him, but felt like he had to stay on top of him. Cano would even recognize these things himself, and asked Bowa to do extra pregame stuff from time to time. He’s just a player who tends to get into bad habits, like lots of other young players.

Jamal G. says:

Hey, Mike Pelfrey, how about you develop a second pitch before you pitch to Joey Votto with two men on base.

A.D. says:

Alright Cano stealing bases, I guess on Zaun might as well go.

Cano walk twice and stole a base within 2 game? what the?

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

A-Rod doesn’t beat that out.

he woulda just send it out of the park, stats padder

Of course A-Rod would have hit the ball out of the infield, but that’s besides the point.

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

He does make it onto the front page of ESPN.com, though.

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/200.....ts_576.jpg

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

What is the relevance of that picture? I saw it this afternoon and I said, “Wtf?” I didn’t read the article though…

I really would like one of the unclutch three run homers in the first three innings out of A-Rod right now.

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

According to several bar patrons from Monday evening, not only am I not a Yankees fan, but Grit Gardner has “power.”

Mike, are you going to shoehorn the “How much we miss A-Rod” bit into every game?

Jamal G. says:

Come on, Gardner, be all clutch and shit.

A.D. says:

Ransom getting lucky need the Gritster to get a hit

Chris K says:

20 push-ups, Gardner.

A.D. says:

It would be awesome if they actually did that

but then next season he’ll try to swing for the fences!

AJ says:

Let’s hope the Yanks don’t feel like stranding all their runners in scoring position tonight.

And what is up with Wang? Let’s get those pitches down buddy. Felix Pie should not be driving it deep like that.

Shamik says:

Wang needs to get the ball down! WTF is he doing giving up all these deep fly balls

Jamal G. says:

Jose Reyes’ lazy Dominicaness just cost the Mets a run.

A.D. says:

Edison Volquez working the count

minus the big fly from Pie this was a lot more Wangish inning

Chris K says:

Nice and Wangy.

Nice and Wangy

That’s what SHE said!!!

A.D. says:

Tomorrow is a day game, lame

southernyankeefan says:

why doesn’t YES get a new radar gun

Chris K says:

That’s the interesting thing, they don’t even have one. They just eyeball it.

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

A.D. says:

Is it possible to just stream Pitch F/X data…that would be optimal

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Mike, since you’re a YES Network employee, why don’t you call them and tell them to turn off that gun.

We aren’t YES Network employees. And I happen to like the radar gun, good comic relief.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Will you get invited to the YES Christmas/Festivus party?

Will you get invited to the YES Christmas/Festivus party Bacchanal?

Fixed.

andrew says:

Mike Pop – if you’re out there – I’m sure you saw the Jets are meeting with Miles Austin this weekend… how do you feel? Hang in there… I’m not sure if he’ll go though, not with a #2 role in Dallas waiting for him.

http://www.nj.com/newsflash/in.....ist=sports

As a Jets fan… meh. Miles Austin is an org arm.

andrew says:

I agree, but Pop expressed his love for him last night

A.D. says:

Damn Lester has 5ks in 2 innings

pat says:

Haha Mora you suck.

pat says:

or Arod in any stadium, Ken.

A.D. says:

Umm maybe the Matsui “scouting report” isn’t that great since he hasn’t played in Japan since 2002.

Shamik says:

can the yankees get a timely hit!?!? Cmon Tex!

Why can’t Igawa pitch like this guy? bah

Frank says:

Igawa even has better stuff than this guy.

Shamik says:

find the damn strike zone wang!

Frank says:

Oh, wow Brian Roberts is on base…

And when can we officially add Adam Jones to the “Yankee Killer” list? If he’s still batting 1.000 after this game you’d have to consider it.

A.D. says:

Straight gunned down

Brian Roberts, all your base is belong to us!!!

pat says:

Raf says:

nice f’ing job jorge!

Chip says:

Well Posada is looking good

pat says:

every play at 3rd has been an adventure, ugggh.

A.D. says:

Tex saving Ransom’s ass

Tony says:

We actually got adam jones out ! lol

Eric says:

There has been some odd baserunning in this series so far

radnom says:

Wow. Who knew it was so nice having a 1st basemen who actually can play the field?

Frank says:

In slow mo… it actually seemed like Wang’s “sinker” floated upward in that hit by Markakis.

southernyankeefan says:

He definately doesnt have his best sinker tonight so far.

Jamal G. says:

I say Matsui has been the greatest Japanese player because he gives you OBP and above-average power. Ichiro is just a speedy contact hitter with no power (and league-average, at best, on-base skills) at a corner-outfield position.

Jamal G. says:

Wow, scratch that, I’m a dolt, completely misread the numbers.

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

Plus…what position does Matsui play?

Jamal, do yourself a solid. Watch Ichiro take batting practice one day. He’s really special, and can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants with a bat in his hands. Including depositing shot after shot into the bleachers. Its quite a sight to behold.

Ichiro: .331-.370-.430
Matsui: .295-.371-.478

Ichiro’s Gold Glove caliber defense, cannon arm and baserunning more than makes up the difference in slugging. It’s not even close, Ichiro in a landslide.

Yeah, especially now that Matsui’s a DH and really has been for years.

pat says:

I was kinda thinking Pena might get the start at 3b tonight with Wangs GB preponderance.

RichYF aka sooooo tired of the "namedrop says hello" meme says:

Mora – *some* unknown substance = Cody Ransom?

southernyankeefan says:

has wang shown his slider yet?

That’s what she said.

southernyankeefan says:

ha yeah guess i walked right into that

Frank says:

Good call. I was really expecting it with two strikes there.

Drew says:

Just had to listen to John and Susan for a fucking hour. I have never been so happy as I am now to listen to Kay.

Shamik says:

ok lets get a run this inning

Frank says:

This guy Uehara is pissing me off. His stuff is atrocious and he’s really lucking out.

his locations have been awsome. but he’s using a lot of pitches…

Nick Markakis, best outfielder in the AL not named Grady? I think so.

Chris K says:

You forgot Nick Swisher.

Josh Hamilton maybe? Matt Holliday?

A.D. says:

Holliday if he hits out of Coors, Alex Rios could have a huge year.

Forgot about Holliday, he’s up there as well. I think I’d take the all-around package of Markakis though.

pat says:

Edinson Volquez?

/BBWAA’d

Watch out for Bossman Jr., if he can continue his improvement.

andrew says:

WeAgreed, although Markakis is developing as well. I think it’ll be another year or two before Upton passes Markakis

John says:

cmon offense!!!

Frank says:

I think Pedroia sold his soul to the devil. Tommy Johnson style….

“Well he taught me to swing this here bat reeaal good.”

Mike says:

correct me if i’m wrong, but it seems like over the past few years they have always gotten shutdown by pitchers they faced for the first time

Frank says:

No correction needed.

Eric says:

I’ve felt thats the case for the last decade or so, but I have no evidence to support that claim.

Drew says:

cmon cody. get one broski.

Drew says:

hahaha yes. i thought he had it.

I take back everything bad I’ve said about Ransom.

Frank says:

God this team is SOOO much better without A-Rod!!!

JobaWockeeZ says:

HANDSOME RANSOM

A.D. says:

Rich says:

Way to shut me up, Ransom.

Cody doing the first useful thing of the season

Chris K says:

He’s still about -3 in the category.

Joey says:

Ransom! A-Rod would have never hit that, he’s not clutch

Raf says:

4th inning doubles are more clutch off Ransom’s bat

southernyankeefan says:

John says:

Drew says:

How long till we call him brett instead of grit.

61 pitches, six outs for Pelfrey. Yikes.

You know how it’s way too soon to push the panic button and the WTF IS MY BURRITO and all that?

Yeah… it’s not too soon to push the panic button for the Mets. Commence panicking.

But they have teh Johan, he cures all ills.

Every 5th day. The other 4 days get bumpy.

Frank says:

Every time I look at Kevin Youkilis’ face, I look forward to the future to the inevitable time when Joba will be firing a baseball into it.

Rich says:

It’s not unimportant for Wang to put up a 0 this inning.

Shamik says:

wang needs a quick inning. How about one of those classic double plays

A.D. says:

classic triple play?

wang needs a quick inning. How about one of those classic double plays three-up, three-downs

Frank says:

This gets ugly if Wang doesn’t find it soon. He’s lucky it’s 2-1.

pat says:

Anybody watching the Yankees bonus cam?

Scott Kazmir does not know the meaning of the word efficiency.

And Wang has about three too many walks.

cuponoodles says:

Wanger having trouble finding the strike zone…

mko says:

You gotta hate the pitching woes in the early games. Spring training was soooooo long this year and still they can’t get off to a hot start with good stuff?

They DID get off to a hot start. They were 24-10 in spring training.

Mike says:

Am I the only one who finds that pop up noise in the corner annoying on YES? It reminds me of Pop-Up Video from the 90s on VH1.

Shamik says:

oh the pain…2 on no outs

Shamik says:

wang is pulling a CC

Well, at this point, I’m thinking that we could do with a long man. Who’s with me?

Drew says:

“Wang can’t hang, Joba to the pen”

Would you care to rephrase that Kaitlin?

People might get the wrong idea.

Mike says:

sigh. Talk about blueballs after how these guys played in the preseason….

southernyankeefan says:

man this is painful

Drew says:

60 mph per hour pitch. is it that hard to get a gun.

pat says:

Robbie made that look effortless.

Shamik says:

yes i think we pull wang. His sinker isnt working

I’m thinking that the staff will soon reel off five straight shutouts and bring the team ERA somewhere south of 14.00. At least, I hope so.

Tony says:
Drew says:

one would think. there is 5 innings left

Smitt Dog says:

This place is restricted Wang, so don’t tell them you’re Jewish!

Rich says:

He’s got nothing.

Smitt Dog says:

Jesus christ Wang! Whats with all the pictures? It’s a parking lot!

Frank says:

Has Wang thrown a slider?

Mike Pop says:

You suck Wang!!! We finished!

Joey says:

Another that’s what she said moment brought to you by TSJC’s Burritos!

Yeah, these first two games are dying for some burritos, aren’t they?

Mike Pop says:

I need hookers and blow right about now.

Joey says:

I’m gonna get my own amusement park, with hookers….. and blackjack…… you know what? Forget the amusement park

Joey says:

Get Zillo on the phone, you could be the Yankees Official Microwaveable Burrito WTF!?!??!?!? Guy, they have just about everything else

pat says:

Second game of the season, a night game, the yankees are in town and the stadium is only half full. Yet these d-bags in b-more are mad that tex didn’t want to come play there for less money. Go eff yourselves.

A.D. says:

I really don’t get all the booing, Red Sox sure, Nationals have a case, but the O’s not really

Frank says:

12 consecutive losing seasons will make you sour.

Plus, if Homicide: Life on the Street, The Corner, and The Wire is any indication, Baltimore is one gigantic mammoth shithole.

Joey says:

don’t forget “Ace of Cakes”

Comment of the night.

Joey says:
(Comments wont nest below this level)

southernyankeefan says:

wang is out there throwing meatballs

Frank says:

Heh. Wait till you see Edwar come in.

andrew says:

Looked good to me…

Drew says:

I love how Nady doesn’t try to throw TOWARDS home.

Shamik says:

u have to get wang out after this inning. he just doesnt have his sinker going tonight

Mike Pop says:

Well, I think we know the main reason why the Yanks are losing right now.

I know Wallace Matthews knows.

Drew says:

“Yankees suck, Joba to the pen”

Tomorrow, I anticipate a 1000-word column from Matthews explaining how Vermont, Iowa, and DC legalizing gay marriage means that Joba should be in the bullpen.

mko says:

One thing I was really hoping to see out of the Yankees this season: Winning series. Doesn’t look too good for the first one right now. But it’s only the fourth inning.

pat says:

Frank says:

Yankees rotation is teh awesome!!1!1!

Rich says:

Any rain in the forecast?

K.B.D. says:

Well… looks like it’s up to Burnett to salvage the series.

Smitt Dog says:

Let’s get one tomorrow night fellas… No game is over till its over, but this one has all the markings of a 16-3 prison raping…

southernyankeefan says:

ha that sucks but did anyone notice the old school clip playing on the big screen?

dsafasdfasdf don’t pull a fucking Detroit damnit

mustang says:

hummm… i wonder where i seen a start like this before… Oh yes last year.

LOL

Mike Pop says:

LOL

I love when you put lol in all caps after you say something you think is funny. It cracks me up more than your actual joke. Keep it up, mustang, baby!

mustang says:

I’m happy at least I’m entertaining you seem like the Yankees didn’t want that job tonight.

Shamik says:

thanks wang….great game!

Matt K says:

Does anyone know where wangs slider was tonight??? I dont believe he threw it even once. sorry if this has already been discussed.

mustang says:

It still in Florida.

Matt K says:

how come? its been successful in the past. maybe he saw something wrong with it in the pregame but to not even try it once when the sinker sucked

mustang says:
Matt K says:

I know but I am still wondering why he wasnt throwing it.

mko says:

Well, the Phillies came back from 3-10 down…LET’S GO!

Flynn says:

Heck of an effort by Wang tonight. Proving again why he is a #4.

Matt K says:

i hope you are being very sarcastic here

pat says:

The lonely stoner likes to free his mind at night.

Mike Pop says:

The arsonist had oddly shaped feet.

Mattingly's Love Child says:

I think Rick Suttcliffe has an illicit relationship with Aki Iwamura……he has creamed his pants each time Iwamura has done anything.

Shamik says:

atleast lester is getting roughed up

Drew says:

Who has the worst outfield in the AL?

All around, both offense and defense?

All four AL West teams are tied for last, IMO.

Abreu is the Angels’ problem now.

andrew says:

I never viewed Abreu as a problem, I thought he was very good for the Yankees.

A.D. says:

Probably the Royals or the Mariners, especially without Ichiro

mk says:

Seattle’s OF defense is money.

Their offense without Ichiro, not so good.

A.D. says:

Yeah i was assuming the question was offensive based

Rich says:

Put at least one run on the board this half inning.

Frank says:

Tomorrow Burnett’s arm falls off…

In Kansas City… Joba shows up to the ballpark drunk after drinking some firewater with the local Chiefs.

Andy is then reunited with Roger Clemens.

0-5. A perfect week!

Expired Milk says:

Wang did not rise to the equation

Rich says:
Joey says:

Well done sir, well done

pat says:

southernyankeefan says:

well glad that inning is over

AJ says:

The second terrible effort by the starters. I’m not too worried about it right now – it’s still early. But two nights in a row and the pitchers can’t locate their pitches? Ugh, it always sucks to lose to the O’s, and the Yanks have been getting good at it lately.

It would be perfect to have Tomko or Geise right now in the ‘pen. I know, Geise is in Oakland now. But a long reliever would be great to mop up some innings.

The Phillies came back today from nine down, so the Yankees can come back in this.

Drew says:

ZOMG!!!!11!1!!!

Frank says:

Both Damon and Jeter have been hitting the ball well… But has Damon gotten a hit WHILE Jeter is one base? Has he even advanced him?

Drew says:

Let’s see if he pops it up again.

Eric says:

6 pop ups to the left side in 7 at bats. Make an adjustment one time.

Drew says:

Mike Pop says:

Tex, you’re overpaid, you bum.

cuponoodles says:

I’m still a believer CMW :-(

Seriously though, no way we go down with Alfredo Simon on the mound toms.

pat says:

Usually no-name journeymen have their way with us.

Usually no-name journeymen have their way with us.

That’s what your mother and your sister said last night, Trebek.

pat says:

Heh. I like how you added Trebek at the end of that just to make sure I wouldn’t get offended.

I’ll take “The Penis Mightier” for $600.

AJ says:

I know he’s a slow starter, but how can Tex be fooled the same way three straight times? C’mon Tex, help us out here.

Mattingly's Love Child says:

Holy FUCK! Rick Suttcliffe is a bigger moron than I thought!

He thinks that Wang is an injury risk this year because he hurt himself running last year!!!!11!!!!!!!!

Looks like the ole Wednesday night baseball is going on mute…

What time is DOTF getting posted? We need something to look forward to…

A.D. says:

southernyankeefan says:

everyone of texiera’s at bats tonight have ended in a similar way

Frank says:

Don’t forget yesterday.

And our starting pitchers have yet to record a strikeout. My money is on A.J. for one or two though.

Philly won a game this afternoon that they were trailing 10-3.

Mike Pop says:

Ya, but the Yankees don’t have heart. They just want to get back to the clubhouse and count their benjamins.

Drew says:

Phillies also are the world Champs.

YankeeHater says:

This is great !!!!
Wang gets smacked up and this rookie Japanese pitcher looks like Cy Young agaisnt this over rated crap lineup. Now go ahead and pull out your charts and graphs about how good Wang’s curveball looked.LOL.

pat says:

hahaha this is so good on so many levels.

A.D. says:

Wang doesn’t have a curveball, I can see that with my eyes.

mko says:

Did your mommy forget to change your diapers?

Double shot:

WHY THE FUCK IS MY BURRITO TAKING THIS LONG TO COOK IN THIS MICROWAVE?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

and

GO MAKE LOVE TO YOUR SPREADSHEET, NERDS!!!!!11!!!!!!1!!!!eleventy!!!!!!

Mike Pop says:

Gotta ignore the trolls.

First few trolls of the year is like spring training for me.

I’m just working on my mechanics. Experimenting with a circle change.

Wait till they see your Gyro Ball.

They won’t know what hit them.

Nickel for every time I’ve said that!

mk says:

Umm, does Wang even have a curveball?

fatboy says:

0 combined strikeouts from starters so far. boo ya!

AJ says:

Michael Kay made a good point – this ‘pen is going to be gassed by the end of the weekend. Burnett has to go at least six innings tomorrow.

Frank says:

The pen isn’t going to be “gassed” after 3 games.

A.D. says:

Burnett, 8 innings, 4 hits, 9Ks. Mo the 9th just to get some work in.
