  1. A.D. says:

AL curfew is 1AM I believe, they might not even get the game in if its a 4+ hour affair

  2. JobaWockeeZ says:

Meh I dun need school. This game is wayyy more important.

  3. Heh, it’s raining again.

  4. Mattingly's Love Child says:

Mike Pop….IETC in the last thread….

  5. Ivan says:

    Iight game time baby.

  6. Thomas A. Anderson says:

Unless one team blows out the other, they will play until 2 am. Good ‘ol Yankee-Red Sox baseball.

  7. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

Holy sh**. I just listen to Boomer and Carton with Selena from this morning……I’m not a big fan of Carton but they did a great job asking the questions.

  8. Matt H says:

God Dam, I was down there, but after about 8:30, I left, fuuuuuck.

  9. cult of basebaal says:

    HAH!

This is revenge for all those 1pm East Coast starts!

Bring on the rain delays and extra innings!

  10. Ivan says:

Is it me or people in the media made too big of a deal of the sox sweeping the yanks.

  11. Albert = Machine says:

Can’t wait till the team plays the Blue Jays.

  12. VO says:

Let’s have Gardner steal home on Lester tonight. This could be a tough one considering hes not in the line-up but we will see.

  13. Jeremy says:

Jeter’s expression says at all. They should have called this one.

  14. Matt ACTY says:

This one will be called by ten.

  15. I love the way they’re like

“fuck this rain, we’re playing, damnit!”

  16. Matt ACTY says:

Oh and I’m watching on NESN: Over/Under: 5.5 times they mention Ellsbury’s steal of home. I’m saying under.

  17. Something I was wondering today, want to see what you guys think.

Selena Roberts says she has “multiple sources” on the pitch tipping allegation. MLB is investigating the steroid claims, and will have to look into the pitch tipping at some point.

If one or more of the players comes forward and tells Bud he was tipped off by Alex, and its supported by video evidence in some way, then what? What do you think will happen and what do you think Bud should do?

  18. Yankee1010 says:

This is completely ridiculous. It’s worse now than it was earlier in the night. So, sure, let’s start the game at 9:20. Makes sense.

  19. Jeremy says:

I would like to write the “Scouting Report” for a living. One third of it is basically “Hughes is pitching tonight.”

  20. CP3 says:

where should I watch the game ESPN or YES

  21. Mike Pop says:

Ugh. Got my hopes up, this one might get called.

  22. pat says:

Franchise looks beefier than last year.

  23. dkidd says:

no way hughes threw this hard last year

  24. Stryker says:

    mentioning of stolen base #1.

  25. So we played at least 1/3 of a half-inning tonight!

  26. Tom Zig says:

Gameday had Hughes at 94 MPH. zomg!

  27. Reggie C. says:

    what’s pesky about a MVP?

  28. Blackdragon905 says:

Phil’s fastball no less than 93 that whole at bat to ellsbury, topped out at 95 according to gameday.

  29. Man Phil’s pitches have some nasty movement.

  30. Tom Zig says:

    95 MPH on Gameday.

  31. Mike Pop says:

    Double play ball.

  32. Mattingly's Love Child says:

Kay is doing his best to get Ortiz off the schnide….

  33. dkidd says:

did you see where the rays walked pedroia to get to papi?

  34. Reggie C. says:

Don’t like seeing Hughes nibble the corner against Pedroia.

  35. Matt ACTY says:

That cutter just has filthy movement. I like it. A lot.

  36. Mike Pop says:

    Whoever called it.

  37. Ayayay Phil, let’s get some outs here!

  38. Ivan says:

    Early trouble for Hughes.

  39. A.D. says:

    So Ortiz’s career isn’t over?

  40. Matt-Pitt says:

C’mon Hughes, work outta the jam kid.

  41. pat says:

Drop the curve for the K please

  42. Mike Pop says:

Man oh man, I can’t stand Youk.

  43. Alex says:

The crowd is saying Huuuuuuuuughes rite?

  44. A.D. says:

    WTF Molina

  45. Matt-Pitt says:

Oh come on! You gotta glove that, Molina.

    • Matt-Pitt says:

That should’ve been a passed ball. Molina knows he should’ve had that.

  46. Matt ACTY says:

    Should’ve started Molina.

  47. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

I hate the Red Sox…I really, really, really, do.

  48. Yankee1010 says:

    Great stuff, Molina.

  49. Shane says:

Hughes looks bigger than last year

  50. cult of basebaal says:

    ugh.

    alright.

MLB.tv YES HD feed is 1/2 batter behind … can’t update RAB until after AB’s.

    gar.

    • bizarrojamie says:

it gets even farther behind through the game. I’ve been multiple batters behind before when streaming the game. Sucks when you’re chatting with somebody about the game or twitter pops up with updates. But you get used to it.

I’d rather have a slightly lagged game that I get to watch than no game at all :)

If you try to gameday and mlb.tv it, you’ll find they get out of sync the same way.

  51. Ivan says:

Wow that impressive to blow two FB’s by youkilis the way he’s hitting.

  52. Matt-Pitt says:

How was that not a stike?

  53. Mike Axisa says:

Hughes straight up blew Youk away. Swung through two fastballs right down the pipe.

  54. Shane says:

    JD Dew is terrible

  55. Matt ACTY says:

So…where did the first pitch to Nancy miss?

  56. Alex says:

I’m on gameday and all these fastballs are 94 or 95.

  57. Moshe Mandel says:

Listen, Boston has a good lineup and Phil is 22. I see him throwing 92-94 with good life on all of his pitches, and I am encouraged.

  58. You know, I’m thinking Hughes’ pitches may have too much movement right now.

  59. Matt-Pitt says:

Ok… This blue’s zone is killing me… and Hughes

  60. Stryker says:

all these balls – result of the rain?

  61. kSturnz says:

is taht why you don’t walk batters?

  62. A.D. says:

Damn looked like a perfect pitch

  63. Matt-Pitt says:

    WHERE IS THE ZONE?!

  64. Alex says:

    wow.. a ball.. really?

  65. pat says:

UGH WTF that curve was dirty, too mad it missed a little.

  66. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

Seriously, where the eff did those pitches miss?

  67. Shane says:

    fuck that….. Rookie/Soph K zone sucks i guess

  68. Moshe Mandel says:

According to Gameday, Phil just got squeezed terribly.

  69. Evan says:

Do we get any fucking calls? At least 2 of those balls were strikes.

  70. Yankee1010 says:

He’s got impressive stuff so far. It would help if he got some strikes called. That last pitch was SICK. And a fucking strike. He threw 3 pitches in that at-bat that were strikes but called balls. The umpire knows the game started, right?

  71. Raf says:

this tight zone better go both ways.

  72. Eric says:

good thing we got Aceves today with this damn ump

  73. Tom Zig says:

is the ump squeezing Hughes? Gameday had 2 balls that shoulda been strikes

  74. A.D. says:

Annnd out of it, damn passed ball.

  75. Evan says:

Don’t worry guys, Lester will get 2.5 inches on each corner to make up for Phil getting squeezed.

  76. Albert = Machine says:

Watching this on ESPN doesn’t feel right.

  77. Jeremy says:

Hughes made the most out of what could have been a really shitty inning.

  78. Ivan says:

Didn’t like he threw that many pitches, but nevertheless kept the damange to a minimun.

  79. As long as they call the tight zone for Lester I’m okay with it.

But I don’t think these umps realize what they’re doing with a tight zone. We’re so not getting any sleep tonight.

    • Mattingly's Love Child says:

Yeah, Yanks-Sox don’t need any help going longer. And they don’t need any motivation to take pitches….

  80. kSturnz says:

is it just me, or does Bay look alot like Ike from Southpark?

  81. Albert = Machine says:

    Cleveland took the lead!

  82. Mike Pop says:

When will the MLB get robots to ump games?

    • Matt ACTY says:

Just as soon as we get the games to be played on computer like we really want.

But seriously, I know the “human error” factor of the umpire may be charming or whatever, but it’s fucking stupid. There needs to be a standardized strikezone that’s more readily enforced.

  83. Brazilian Yankee says:

I hope the ump squeezes Lester just as bad.

  84. Evan says:

Does Tex have a big game? Slumping is an under statement. He is hitting in Ransom territory.

  85. pat says:

Wow, cleveland was getting no hit for a while there.

  86. Albert = Machine says:

These umps must work for the Sox, just like George Mitchell.

  87. Mike Axisa says:

Hughes did well to get out of it. The run scored because Molina tried to glove a ball he should have got in front of.

  88. Mike Axisa says:

That was a fugly swing out of the Cap’n.

  89. JobaWockeeZ says:

At least I have both Lester and Hughes on my fantasy team. Let’s see Lester get all the calls Hughes will never get.

    • Alex says:

I go as far as taking out my fantasy starters no matter the team if they’re facing the Yanks. I cannot get anything good from a win against the Yanks.. it makes me feel dirty.

    • VO says:

I actually just dropped Lester for Joba.

  90. Hughes did not get that pitch.

  91. Albert = Machine says:

This ump can suck a pickle

  92. Evan says:

    We look solid, as always.

  93. Albert = Machine says:

Lester is growing that D-bag Red Sox beard

  94. Reggie C. says:

    Uuummm …. Lester look sharp.

  95. Mattingly's Love Child says:

    Great start so far!

  96. Mike Pop says:

    Mark, please.

  97. Evan says:

Maybe Tex can do something other thank walk and make outs.

  98. Matt ACTY says:

Daaaaaaaaammmit Tex just missed that one.

    • Evan says:

This seems to be the mantra for him lately. He isn’t paid to “just miss that one” he is paid to hit the shit out of that mistake.

  99. Dave says:

has lester really not thrown anything but a fastball?

  100. Matt ACTY says:

    Right on cue, blue!

  101. Moshe Mandel says:

Seriously, guys? The guy has been awful this year.

  102. Yankee1010 says:

Jerry Meals, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? BOTH WAYS, FUCKASS!!!!

  103. This is gonna be a long night, isn’t it?

  104. Ivan says:

Wow Lester looks sick right now.

  105. Dave says:

    Uh. Oh.

  106. Matt-Pitt says:

I wish that man would start hitting already… C’mon Hughes, hold em’ down and have a quick one.

  107. Mike Pop says:

Impressive inning. Except for the 2nd strike on Teix. ugh.

  108. Eric says:

Over/under 4.5 innings for Berroa to muff something up…

  109. Voice Of Reason says:

Lester is downright filthy. This will be a long night for the Yanks lineup.

  110. Evan says:

Too bad there is no one there to boo Tex.

  111. Jake H says:

    Man I dislike Lester.

  112. Dave says:

Chances this one gets called before the 5th?

  113. A.D. says:

    band box

  114. Accent Shallow says:

Lowell looks 50. I hate him.

  115. Moshe Mandel says:

It’s gonna be a long evening.

  116. Reggie C. says:

Its going to be a romp… isn’t it.

    We. Can’t. Beat. Them.

    • Mike Pop says:

      Have you no shame?

      • Mattingly's Love Child says:

This is the stuff that makes me want to turn on the car with the garage door closed….

      • Reggie C. says:

it’d be a shame if it the skies didn’t open up and save us from another embarrassment.

        • Mike Pop says:

A shame is you – an actual fan giving up after 1 inning. A shame is you saying “we. cant. beat. them.” Come on, man. Anything can happen. Don’t be a fairweather fan. Ya, “we” can’t beat them but the Yankees can 8) . I’d take Hughes on the mound over Mike A any day. No offense Mike A.

    • A.D. says:

      Axl is that you?

  117. Albert = Machine says:

Can we get the rain to turn back on?

  118. Evan says:

This team must love to play us. We go to Fenway and the place is packed with those shitty fans. They come here and its like church. Fuck, we are shitty.

    • A.D. says:

Yeah I’m sure it’d be packed in every stadium after a 2+ HR rain delay on a Tuesday.

      • Evan says:

Clearly not, plus it’s Monday. But it’s just typical. Even if it was 75 and sunny at 7:05, those seats behind HP would still be 1/2 vacant.

    • Stryker says:

hahaha i semi enjoyed this comment.

  119. Dave says:

Ah, so this is what it was like to be a sox fan from 1990s-2003

  120. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

Fuck you Red Sox. Fuck You.

  121. Ivan says:

    Come on Hughes

  122. Accent Shallow says:

No need to dick around with Varitek. He has a slider-speed bat these days.

  123. Evan says:

Being down 2 runs might just do us in tonight. The way we are swinging the bat, or lack there of, thus far we are finished. Unless Cano, Matsui and Swisher hit 5 home runs each, we are finished.

  124. TC says:

    This ESPN broadcast is brutal

  125. Evan says:

Red Sox, Rays and Blue Jays in the next week and a half. Maybe we can win 3 of those games…

  126. Ivan says:

    It’s early.

  127. A.D. says:

Wait, not every ball goes out at the new stadium??

  128. Ivan says:

    Wow that ball travel.

  129. Alex says:

It looks like the Sox are rite on the curve.. like they know its coming.

  130. Ivan says:

    Please don’t walk Ellsbury.

  131. Albert = Machine says:

    FUCK KERRY WOOD!

  132. Matt ACTY says:

Orsillo just said ’07 was Hughes’ first year in the Yankees’ system.

  133. DCR says:

I guess I will be the first one to say it:

    I wish this was Johan.

  134. Matt-Pitt says:

Gotta throw strikes, Hughes. Least challenge em’.

  135. Mike Axisa says:

“He was running at will, and will was on the next base.”

    Classic.

  136. Bryan says:

    This game went south fast

  137. Nick says:

    anyone know his pitch count

  138. Holy crap guys, it’s 2-0 in the second inning.

Like we haven’t come back from worse? Or were you guys not around on Friday?

  139. Mattingly's Love Child says:

Ok, so maybe it isn’t over yet…. ;)

  140. pat says:

Phil went 0-2 right away on a bunch of those fools, gotta learn how to put em away early.

  141. Accent Shallow says:

    Dear Phil,

Outs are good, runs are bad. Lock the state.

  142. Evan says:

I effing hate Lowell, he’s like 60. Always seems to have a big hit against us. If he didn’t play at Fenway and have a massive wall 200 feet away he would suck, kind of like Matt Holliday.

    • KW says:

Nah, the dude is pretty good. He does look 60, but he’s got a legit bat. Wish we could do that trade over :P

      • Evan says:

Seems like the only time we see him play, when the Yankees are in Fenway, he hits at least 1 double off the monster which would be a routine out in any other park. Get one of those a week and that is the difference between hitting .250 and .300. He’s not as good as his numbers show, IMO.

    • A.D. says:

He was a much better hitter away in ’06 & ’08, so its really not Fenway

  143. My fucking g-d can we get like a ban on this smoking commercial or something?

  144. Nick says:

does he have a pitch limit for the night, im guessing 110?

  145. Mattingly's Love Child says:

If this team doesn’t win 75% of their games the rest of the year I’m done as a fan!

  146. Evan says:

    C’mon swish!

  147. Matt-Pitt says:

    I love Swish’s at bats

  148. Reggie C. says:

Thank You Swisher. Dont make it easy for Lester. … unlike Teix.

  149. Mike Pop says:

Oh man. A home run can tie it? I thought this game was ovaaa!

  150. Matt ACTY says:

    That’s how Nick Swisher rolls.

  151. pat says:

Booya, swisher says fuck your perfect game jon lester.

  152. Evan says:

ALLLLL RIIIIIGHT! WAY TO GO SWISHER!

  153. Mattingly's Love Child says:

Nick took pity on him and just accepted a walk

  154. Accent Shallow says:

    Sneaky, Robbie, very sneaky.

  155. Ivan says:

    Don’t do dat Cano.

  156. Jamal G. says:

Zack Greinke has 9 K’s through 7 but has only thrown 79 pitches. This man belongs in the league that Mariano Rivera and Albert Pujols plays in.

  157. Mike Axisa says:

27 3-2 counts in 25 games? Holy shit.

  158. Evan says:

Hey, Bobby Baccala in the stands.

  159. A.D. says:

    Damn thought that was through.

  160. Ivan says:

    Fuck Green.

  161. Evan says:

Crap, that was a nice little grab.

  162. kSturnz says:

you know cano would have turned that dp

  163. pat says:

Geez, crosby and ovechkin both had hat tricks tonight.

  164. Albert = Machine says:

    Rattle this bitch

  165. Mike Pop says:

    Jump ship now.

  166. Matt-Pitt says:

Should’ve been back to back singles. Cano seems ot be getting robbed lately. Nice pick up single by Posada. Need to get that run in now.

  167. Drew says:

    Jorge is the man.

  168. Accent Shallow says:

Please continue hitting Lester. I have such good memories of him as a punching bag.

  169. Hey, just got here.

Read through the game threads so far.

I feel like Bluto from Animal House listening to some of you Yankee fans. You people disgust me.

“What the fuck happened to the Yankee fan I used to know?
Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, HUH?

This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you’re gonna let it be the worst.

“Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble.”

Well just KISS MY ASS from now on! NOT ME! I’m not gonna take this.
    Lester, he’s a DEAD man!
    Pedroia, DEAD!

    YOUKILIS…

  170. Matt ACTY says:

    Easy there, Melky.

  171. Ivan says:

    Lets go Melky.

  172. dre says:

can some Girardi lover please justify playing Berrora over a hot Pena? and playing Molina over a Hot Matsui?

  173. Alex says:

    STEAL HOME CANO!!

  174. Steal home, Cano! STEAL HOME!!!

  175. Buddy says:

This lineup is short. Melky 7th? Ugh. I know he’s swingin’ a hot bat, but I want him swingin’ a hot bat out of the 9 hole.

  176. Ivan says:

Iight don’t swing at the high FB.

  177. A.D. says:

    Goddamn Evil Melky.

  178. Ayayay Melky, that was not cool.

  179. Matt-Pitt says:

Come on Melky, you can’t go down looking at anything close like that.

  180. Mike Axisa says:

    Too close too take Melk.

  181. dre says:

oh wait thats right Molina has 1 good game agaisnt lester, so hes a lester killer…

  182. Ivan says:

Stills K’s great and that FB was rite there.

  183. Albert = Machine says:

    Fuck, Jose is up.

  184. pat says:

It’s ok Jonathon, when your arm falls off right around the all-star break we’ll be laughing last.

  185. Yankee1010 says:

That was a strike, Melky. Just because Hughes wouldn’t get it, doesn’t mean that Lester won’t.

  186. Matt ACTY says:

Don Orsillo being wrong Pt. 2: Apparently Jose Molina was signed just last year to be the backup catcher.

  187. Jake H says:

I want to know where that strike 3 on melky was cause Hughes threw that same pitch and it was a ball.

  188. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

El queso está viejo y pútrido. ¿Dónde está el sanitario?”

  189. Ivan says:

    Hit a homer Molina.

  190. Reggie C. says:

Of course we let Lester off the hook.

  191. Albert = Machine says:

    Damn, homie!

  192. Evan says:

They look like they have never seen a curve ball.

  193. Matt ACTY says:

I wish Phil Hughes had the same umpire behind the plate that Jon Lester has.

  194. A.D. says:

    What was Molina looking for?

  195. Matt-Pitt says:

Wow, c’mon guys. You can’t really go down looking, at least take the bat off the shoulders.

  196. Albert = Machine says:

What’s the record for spillover threads?
