Game 101: Hirok you like a hurricane

(REUTERS/Adam Hunger)

The weather forecast for tonight is a lot better than it was yesterday, but the Yankees and Red Sox still figure to be dodging some rain drops throughout the game. As long as no one slips and get hurt, I’m fine with whatever happens. Long-term health is far more important than the outcome of a single game at this point for the Yankees. Here’s the starting lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
DH Nick Swisher
LF Andruw Jones
Russell Martin
RF Ichiro Suzuki
3B Jayson Nix

RHP Hiroki Kuroda

Tonight’s game starts a little after 8pm ET and can be seen on ESPN. Enjoy.

  1. Kevin says:

Other than the Blue Jays, all the other AL teams won so even if the Sux win,it will merely tie them for dead last.

  2. Kramerica Industries says:

Take the game, take the series.

I can’t stand the thought of the Red Sox coming to the Bronx and winning yet another series.

    • Remember, what ever happens tonight, no matter what: The Yankees are more than likely going to win the division, meanwhile the Red Sox are more than likely going to be watching every game that takes place in October at home.

      • Jacob says:

Fenway Park doesn’t open in October :P

      • Kramerica Industries says:

In regards to what I posted, none of that really matters to me.

Stop me if you’ve heard me say this before, but the Yankees are 4-11 in their last 15 home games against the Red Sox. I hardly even have to begin to describe how horrendous that is. The Red Sox have won three of the last four series’ in the Bronx, with two series’ splits preceding that (in 2010).

Oh, so they do well at Fenway (14-10 since 2010). Don’t care. The idea is to post winning records against the Red Sox, and losing three out of every four home games makes that damn near impossible.

Will this game likely affect the Yankees’ chances at winning the AL East? No, not really. Even less likely for the Red Sox to be that team who would be that pain in the ass.

But it’s a rubber game. It’s Yankees/Red Sox. I think I speak for all of us when I say go forth and fucking WIN.

*this isn’t meant to sound like an attack post at all, btw. But that home record I posted above is probably my biggest source of irritation, in general, with the Yankees. There’s just no defending that, at all.

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

Win, but win for none of the reasons you just stated. Win because we want to continue getting this division in the bag.

I could give a shit what this team’s record against the Boston Red Sox is as long as they’re ahead of them in the standings.

          • Robinson Tilapia says:

And, no, that’s not an attack either. I would just love to make this rivalry more the idiot media creation that it is. This ain’t your daddy’s Red Sox anymore.

        • Jacob says:

*Crowd cheers and screams while pumping bats into air* AND TONIGHT WE DESTROY THEM!!!!!!!!!

        • Tom Q says:

Everybody’d like to win, but that stadium record is skewed — mostly based on last year, and the fact that the Sox came into the Stadium very early, when they were rolling and the Yanks were struggling, and then very late, when the Yanks had the division wrapped and were content to let Scott Proctor pitch.

          • Kramerica Industries says:

This goes back to August 9, 2010.

Red Sox went 3-1 to finish 2010, and 7-2 last year. The Red Sox were below .500 when they swept the Yankees the first time (in May), and the Yankees were really hitting their stride when the Red Sox swept them for the second time (in June).

Seven of the eleven losses were by three runs or less, so these have been winnable games, to boot. Heightens the frustration.

      • TomH says:

Baseball history is filled with failed “remembers” like this one.

  3. Jacob says:

I wish there were 2 games each day

  4. dan2 says:

fly ball to right by sox should be an adventure

  5. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Hey hey my my. Hirok & Roll will never die.

  6. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

Wow redsox crew calling game on BSPN.
Dan Stoolman puts me to sleep.

  7. Robinson Tilapia says:

Da fuckin Swish is back, bitches.

Kuroda will finish these fuckers tonight.

  8. Pat D says:

Posting from my new phone. Yay for me.

  9. Tom Q says:

So, was anyone watching Baseball Tonight, when they said, “Sure, the Yankees have the best record in baseball, but do you really put them up there with Texas and Anaheim?”

If I hadn’t heard it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it.

    • Yankee Fan 1 says:

      LOL what even

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

Why do people still watch these shows if they know this is what they’re going to get? Between this and MLBTR, I’m gold.

      • Tom Q says:

I was eating dinner and looking for something to watch. Also hadn’t seen the other scores at the time.

For the record,, about five minutes later they mentioned Twitter “lit up”, with people saying the question should have been asked the other way around.

    • Didn’t even turn on the TV till 8:05. I hate most pregame shows, as they’re kind of pointless anyway…but BT is the worst.

    • Jacob says:

That’s why I watch MLB tonight on mlb network, not as bad

    • Kramerica Industries says:

      Texas has been terrible lately.

They’re a rotation of five #3′s, but no true shutdown ace. In many ways, in fact, a similar construct to the Yankees, in that they both have fine offenses, and it will be the quality of the pitching that determines how far they can go.

  10. captain kiwi says:

i want hirok to bean crawford. give them another clip for the yankee-sox montage.

  11. Kramerica Industries says:

Andruw Jones has such a badass personality.

  12. captain kiwi says:

5 pitch 1st. keep it up sox

  13. DERP says:

    I love Mark.

  14. Hummingbird S. says:

    Great first inning!

  15. Nice play by Jeter….awesome scoop by tex.

  16. CBean says:

5 pitch first inning! i love it.

  17. Jacob says:

That was efficient, you can have a drink now Hiroki

  18. Tom says:

Is ESPN going to show 1/2 the game from behind the catcher?

Would be nice to see Kuroda dealing…

    (And nice pick Tex!)

  19. DERP says:

    Jeter gets an XBH here.

  20. Cuso says:

The whole Hirok substituted for the word “rock” is a bit of a stretch.

Using in every single possible way doesn’t propagate it’s coolness. It makes it seem even more forced.

  21. God, what a terrible camera angle.

  22. Hummingbird S. says:

what is Jeter thinking? swing the damn bat

  23. DERP says:

    ugh you stupid fuck Jeter

    • Jacob says:

The ball was barely in the zone that was a good take

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

How is taking a pitch in the zone with 2 strikes a good take?

        • Jacob says:

Because it barely just BARELY caught the zone the umpire could have called it a ball

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

With 2 strikes, he should be protecting the plate on borderline pitches. If it was actually out of the zone, I could understand, but that ball had the plate. NBD, get him next time.

  24. Brett Pedroia says:

    Rubber match?

  25. Really, that seems the easiest sky to find a ball against…I think Salty just had a brain fart.

  26. Hummingbird S. says:

Yankees up there hacking (and whiffing)

  27. Widget says:

Doubront sucks. He will get crushed, eventually in this game.

  28. Just saw Tex’s homer off of Padilla for the first time…love seeing him pimp the homer there.

  29. DERP says:

So Nova and Hughes each have a 4.08 ERA. Which one finishes the season with a lower ERA?

  30. Brian S. says:

I like how Granderson got out on a changeup against a left handed pitcher. There is literally nothing he won’t strikeout against.

  31. A-Rod gets to that ball, or I just hate Nix so much that I’m imagining it?

  32. CBean says:

ESPN: If only the Red Sox were winning, they would be winning

  33. Kramerica Industries says:

Sorry guys, it doesn’t work that way.

  34. jjyank says:

ESPN: If the Red Sox two best pitchers weren’t so bad, they’d be good! I swear, they’d be leading the wildcard!!

…really? If they weren’t bad, they’d be good? I miss the YES network already.

  35. Really? We’re looking for a dominant number 2? What about this guy on the mound right here? who according to your graphic is 7-1 with a sub 3 ERA in his last however many games ESPN…

  36. Brian S. says:

Way to go Kuroda. Don’t even challenge the guy with the sub .300 OBP

  37. Kramerica Industries says:

  38. DERP says:

    Fuck you Kuroda.

  39. Brian S. says:

    God fucking dammit

  40. Cy Pettitte says:

Kuroda better not shit his pants a la CC.

  41. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

And Andruw is picking the ball up about …. now.

  42. Jones took a horrific route to that ball.

  43. Karl Krawfid says:

Wow shitty outfield positioning right there.

  44. MartinRanger says:

I get irrationally angry when the Red Sox do anything right against the Yankees, but god damn it Kuroda you have to be better than that.

  45. Widget says:

My god is it make crappy red sox players look good weekend at the Stadium? Sweeney sucks.

  46. MartinRanger says:

Also Gardner (and maybe Ichiro?) cuts that ball off. Andruw is fine tracking balls but he doesn’t have nearly the range he used to.

  47. Jacob says:

Oh my god this kid is trolling hard

  48. Tom says:

So routine groundball past a shift, walk and a single to left that nearly gets to the wall…

Other than the walk, hard to fault Kuroda for much of this.

  49. Widget says:

The stank of that west coast road trip is still lingering with the Yankees. Enough already and get back to winning.

    • MartinRanger says:

This team has not been the same since that dreadful weekend in Oakland. They are a better team than this.

      • Get Phelps Up says:

        They’ve won 3 of 5 since then.

        • MartinRanger says:

3 of 5 isn’t that impressive when you consider the streak they were on. I’m not saying they are tanking, but I think they aren’t playing particularly good baseball. The pitching has fallen off and the hitting has been really inconsistent. Despite decent help from guys like Nix and Chavez.

          • Get Phelps Up says:

They’ve allowed 3.6 runs/game so I don’t know why you’re thinking the pitching has fallen off. As far as the offense goes, they’ve scored 5.4 runs/game in those 5.

            • TomH says:

Forget the numbers. He’s seeing, correctly, something you’re not: that since Oakland there has been some falling off in the quality of play. Are they “tanking”? Doubtful. However, this big lead is not to be trusted. Without ARod they’re a weaker team–as they’ve been since Pettitte left for the DL. Moreover, they had been playing at a very high level of intensity during those good weeks, when they built up that lead. Only the very best teams–and these Yankees are not that–can maintain such a pace. They were do for a “correction.”

        • Widget says:

Irrationality of the moment trumps results.

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

They should have won 6 out of 5.

  50. captain kiwi says:

    eat balls ciriaco.

  51. Brian S. says:

That pitch to Sweeney was right down the fucking middle.

  52. God Ciriaco is such a good player…did you guys see him hustling down to first there. Even when he makes an out he’s awesome.

    • captain kiwi says:

even when joking it’s still incensing… argh!

    • MartinRanger says:

Ciriaco is like my least favorite player on the Red Sox. Because absolutely nothing suggests he should be able to hit this well.

The Yankees are not getting any breaks with batted balls this series. Didn’t Morales have an outing where three of his four outs were hard line drives?

  53. Tom says:

ESPN needs to stop the behind the catcher angle… it adds almost zero value to the game.

  54. The Real Greg says:

I hope the media doesn’t follow Joe Buck when comaparing the Red Sox to the Cardinals last year. But I knew the media would be jumping for joy.

  55. Widget says:

So let’s make Doubront look like an ace. This better not be one of those games.

  56. jjyank says:

    Welcome back, Swish.

  57. Garbage time single for the return of Swish.

  58. Hummingbird S. says:

    I fucking hate Ciriaco

  59. Kramerica Industries says:

Giraffe-neck is such a pain in the ass.

  60. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

I really hate that fucking guy.

  61. Get Phelps Up says:

    Ciriaco you piece of shit.

  62. …I don’t think Ibanez should be giving Ichiro advice on how to play the outfield.

    fuck you Ciriaco.

  63. Widget says:

I am all set with Jones. Sick of him.

  64. MartinRanger says:

So it seems the Yankees are gambling on Russell’s BABIP rebounding? I mean, with the walks and the power he’s not the complete zero his BA suggests, but damn he needs a hot streak.

  65. Cuso says:

    Ciriaco is Merton Hanks

  66. MartinRanger says:

Okay, let’s have a triple into the gap. We have the groundball single and the 4-pitch walk.

  67. I’d love to see something positive Ichy.

  68. Jacob says:

I am starting to think jones should only be used as a pinch hitting role for homers because I swear he does two things and two things only: strikeout and hit home runs. Yes guys I am now on the scott hairston train

    • Cuso says:

Jones as a starter is a mistake, but it messes up indoctrinated narrative here so you have to be careful about what you say.

      • jjyank says:

Then who starts in his stead?

        • MartinRanger says:

Seriously I don’t think they ever wanted Andruw as more than a situational bat. But when you lose your starting LF for the season you can only do so much. It’d be better if the Colin Curtis’ of the world paid off, but they didn’t.

          • jjyank says:

Andruw was signed to be a starter against lefties. If he’s been more than that (which he occasionally, but not tonight) it’s been because of injuries. Better players are likely too expensive in prospect terms. So again, who’s the better option?

            • Andruw's Smile says:

There really isn’t one. Jones was signed to be the right handed part of a platoon and be Outfield insurance. I’m sure Girardi and company didn’t envision Ibanez/Jones to start more than a game a week in the outfield combined. But, injuries push guys into action and forces your hand in terms of depth. So, it is what it is.

          • Get Phelps Up says:

            That’s why they got Ichiro.

  69. Cuso says:

Alright Choo-zuki, get er done Party-Rocker

  70. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

They could really use another everyday, above average against lefties and righties, bat.

    • MartinRanger says:

I mean, so could every team in baseball. You just described a potential all-star.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

True. But I don’t care about every team in baseball. I do see a bit of a hole in the Yankee offense, especially with ARod out. Too many platoon hitters and low production spots in the order. They can survive without more offense, especially for the regular season, but deepening the lineup would be very nice.

        • MartinRanger says:

And how exactly do they do that? They can’t stretch the budget any further. They don’t have major talent in the upper minors. And reliable bats don’t come cheaply. These aren’t the Yankees of old, but they are paying for the mistakes of them.

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

“They can’t stretch the budget any further. ”

Sure they can. They may choose not to.

  71. MartinRanger says:

Ichiro not exactly inspiring confidence since coming over. Then again I can’t say with certainty that Wise would be doing any better.

  72. Brian S. says:

The Red Sox score 2 out runs. We do not.

  73. idk, maybe it’s because we have a huge divisional lead…or because Boston has been generally terrible all year…it’s really not too important for me for the Yankees to win this game. I’d love to see it don’t get me wrong, but I’d love it in the same way as if it was the Orioles, or the Indians…

  74. DERP says:

I’ve already moved on to the Orioles series. They start three crap starters, so that’s nice. Unfortunately we don’t start CC or Kuroda.

    • Widget says:

based on CC’s last start and this Kuroda gem, it’s not that big of a deal.

      • jjyank says:

You’re really judging Kuroda’s start in the 3rd inning of a two run game?

        • Mike Axisa says:

Do you really need to ask that question?

          • jjyank says:

            You’re right. I don’t know why I bother.

            • Widget says:

It’s called sarcasm. Obviously their recent outings have no bearing on their next outings. Duh!!!

              • Robinson Tilapia says:

                Is this “sarcasm” too?

                Widget says:
                July 29, 2012 at 8:45 pm

just let all the garbage get on base. Crawford should be going yard again. Worst part of losing this series is the Red Sox will go back to Fenway and get smoked by the Tigers.

                • jjyank says:

It’s funny how some commenters use the “sarcasm” card when they’re called out for crazy statements.

                  • Robinson Tilapia says:

Speaking of which, did anyone ever even see my reply to the whole religion/Andy debacle in the other thread? Still showing as “awaiting moderation.” Pretty tame reply.

  75. DERP says:

I hate this fucking team. I hope Ellsbury tries to steal and then Cano stomps on his bad shoulder.

  76. Karl Krawfid says:

    Dammit Yankees.

  77. Widget says:

just let all the garbage get on base. Crawford should be going yard again. Worst part of losing this series is the Red Sox will go back to Fenway and get smoked by the Tigers.

  78. Can we get a slow mo of the play at first, not the clear out at second?

  79. Brian S. says:

ESPN won’t show the play at first.

  80. Get Phelps Up says:

ESPN truck takes a look at that play, saw that he was out, doesn’t show it.

  81. Kramerica Industries says:

Gee, ESPN, show the wild card graphic some more.

I don’t think I get the point yet.

  82. DERP says:

    Well done.

  83. Hummingbird S. says:

great play by Nix to turn that DP.. that was nice

  84. MartinRanger says:

    That’s better.

Okay no more screwing around with Doubront.

  85. Tom says:

Gritty DP… gritty hustle in almost beating that out.

  86. We got 4 outs that inning, on two double plays.

  87. Cuso says:

Ooh. The camera just caught Grit-ster say “ef.”

    That’s not very grit-like.

  88. God, if we didn’t have Jeter ESPN wouldn’t like a single player on our team.

  89. Cuso says:

    Stan. Stan.

    Eat. Work. Gym. Sleep.

    Stan. Stan.

Eat. Work. Gym. Creepy Lamb. Sleep.

  90. DERP says:

  91. Hummingbird S. says:

    first pitch DP.. very nice

  92. Brian S. says:

    Fuck off Jeter!

  93. DERP says:

    You dumb fucking idiot Jeter

  94. Kramerica Industries says:

Well, I certainly couldn’t have predicted that double play off THAT bat…

  95. MartinRanger says:

    Thanks Captain! Ugh.

  96. Cuso says:

    Schulman set that up.

  97. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

First pitch DP on a pitch that was worse than the one he took for strike 3 in the first inning. SMH.

  98. Widget says:

Doubront pitching better than Lester pretty much sums up why the red sox suck and will continue to suck this season.

  99. Get Phelps Up says:

Guys, let’s all pause a moment and mourn the misfortune of the 2012 Boston Red Sox.

    • jjyank says:

      Mourn = celebrate?

      • Get Phelps Up says:

Should have said: Guys, let’s all pause a moment and join ESPN in mourning the misfortune of the 2012 Boston Red Sox.

    • Widget says:

It’s a damn human tragedy. They had to fire that junkie Francona and Theo shafted them with those Crawford and Lackey deals, and God decided that it wasn’t in the cards for them last year. So we should mourn for them everyday.

  100. Widget says:

again, thanks for the awesome at bat jeter.

  101. MartinRanger says:

Good AB by Curtis. He should think about running with two out.

  102. Kramerica Industries says:

Feels like they’ve worked Doubront well, but his pitch count is still manageable.

    • Brian S. says:

That’s because for every guy that has worked him we have people like Jones and Jeter that groundout on the first pitch.

  103. MartinRanger says:

    More shitty BABIP luck. Damn.

  104. Tex couldn’t have hit that ball any harder…

  105. Hummingbird S. says:

hard hit, but caught.. no luck so far for the Yankees

  106. Brian S. says:

    Trade for Headley right meow.

  107. Widget says:

Anthony Rizzo has 7 homers, Adrian Gonzalez has 10. I’d put good money down that Rizzo finishes with more homers than Gonzalez. I will add that I hate Gonzalez.

  108. Brian S. says:

First pitch to Ross was right down the middle.

  109. MartinRanger says:

You aren’t obligated to allow the leadoff batter on every inning Hiroki.

  110. Hummingbird S. says:

too many baserunners allowed by Hiroki

  111. 1. Cano is too smooth to be allowed.

    2. I hate 1-4-3 DP’s

    • jjyank says:

Cano is too smooth to be injured. SIGN HIM.

      • sign him to a reasonable deal. I’m actually in the let him walk camp if he wants anymore than 6 years after next season.

        • jjyank says:

I think he’ll get more than that. My ideal scenario is a 6 year deal with two vesting options for plate appearances. If he hits those vesting requirements, he’s at least not injured, and that could take him to eight.

But as I’ve said before, I have blinders for Cano. He’s my boy.

  112. MartinRanger says:

Is there anyone here who really trusts 2012 Ivan Nova over 2012 Phil Hughes in the playoffs? It’s not like Nova gives up fewer home runs.

I just see this assumption they’ll move Hughes to the bullpen because he did it years ago and it makes no sense to me whatsoever.

    • Brian S. says:

As long as Hughes starts on the road I’m fine with him starting in the playoffs (assuming we get there)

    • Kramerica Industries says:

      Hughes gives up home runs.

Nova gives up tons of extra base hits.

      Pick your poison.

      • Hughes. He doesn’t put anybody on base, and allows solo shots.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

That actually spooks me in some ways – Hughes is bound to give up a couple two or three-run shots with the sheer volume of HR he allows. Hope that something like that doesn’t come back to bite them at the worst moment.

That said, I’m taking Hughes right now myself, only because Nova routinely allows baserunners. Hughes seems to be a lot more capable of dominating on any given night.

          • Robinson Tilapia says:

I agree that the law of averages will catch up and, yes, some HRs will be hit with runners on base, but there have also been very, very good pitchers throughout history who were extremely HR-prone.

            • Kramerica Industries says:

              Well, of course.

Especially if they are in the right ballpark for half their games, a fly ball pitcher can be extremely successful. In this case, I don’t think it’s any surprise Hughes has been better on the road than at home.

              • MartinRanger says:

Right now I see Hughes becoming vintage Brad Radke with a higher K/9 rate and I’m pretty happy with that.

          • Anthony says:

            Wow, give credit to Kuroda.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

The assumption is more based on a general impatience with Hughes than anything concrete. I don’t think anything’s a given.

  113. teddy says:

    we got this game

  114. Brian S. says:

Doubront has a 4.5 ERA and a 4.3 FIP. SCORE RUNS

  115. Kramerica Industries says:

    Jesus Christ.

How many more times are these three going to badger the “Lester and Beckett being better” POV. HOLY SHIT!

  116. Get Phelps Up says:

4 runs in 6 innings is a step in the right direction? If you mean it’s an improvement over 11 runs in 4.2 innings, then yes it is a step in the right direction.

  117. I usually don’t let anything ESPN says effect me, but this goes beyond them. I’m fucking sick of our rotation not getting the respect it deserves “CC’s going to have a lot of pressure in his starts because of the lack of quality depth behind him” my fucking ass.
Kuroda is averaging almost 7IP per start, with a 3.34 ERA
Hughes has an ERA of 3.34 in 15 starts since My 6th
and Nova has been a decent 4 guy as well..
Our rotation is damn good ESPN, MSN, and some commenters here. fuck.

  118. Karl Krawfid says:

    Swing at errthang.

  119. MartinRanger says:

Be nice for Andruw to run into one here.

  120. captain kiwi says:

    come onnnn, make him pay

  121. Hummingbird S. says:

Please, make him pay for all the walks

  122. If Ichiro swings first pitch I am turning this game off.

  123. Kramerica Industries says:

Six base runners already against Doubront. It’s about time to start taking advantage.

  124. Robinson Tilapia says:

Just to get things straight, I don’t care how good this game winds up getting in the next 35 minutes, Breaking Bad comes first.

    Priorities, people.

  125. Cuso says:

Should we get another bat even if it’s part-time?

  126. Kramerica Industries says:

Yep. All the makings of severe frustration right now, fortunately there’s still time to atone for that.

  127. Hummingbird S. says:

    RISPfail special

  128. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

At least they cleared the pitcher’s spot.

  129. Andruw's Smile says:

Yikes, Ichiro… Maybe these poor ABs against lefties will prove to Girardi that Ichiro should really only platoon, and never hit against lefties.

  130. Brian S. says:

I sure am glad we decided to upgrade our offense with the guy with the 76 wRC+

  131. MartinRanger says:

Ichiro had better go on a tear in the next week, or I’m pretty much giving up on him. I have no idea how his approach worked for as long as it did.

Really need Swisher to get back to being a presence in the lineup.

  132. teddy says:

    chase headly please

  133. Widget says:

Doubront is on the verge of getting crushed. It’s gonna happen next inning and we will all laugh.

  134. The Real Greg says:

Problem is that the runners are being let on with 1 or more outs. We have not led off an inning great tonight.

And actually, Orel was exactly right. The Yankees are not playing with the urgency the Red Sox are. Complacency can bite you in the ass sometimes. Let’s hope it doesn’t this season.

    • Brian S. says:

Nix leadoff with a walk before Jeter ruined it but doing Jeter things.

      • The Real Greg says:

        MULTIPLE base runners.

I am tired of you spreading so much hate about Ichiro and CC and Jeter.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

Either that or Doubront has their number.. 3rd start this season that they can’t get to him

      • The Real Greg says:

I actually think Doubront has been their best starting pitcher all year. The game yesterday was the one that we should have won, But CC bit the bullet.

    • Widget says:

Really? Your only hope for the red sox is that the yankees get complacent? You are up shit’s creek without a paddle because the red sox problems run deep and cold and hard.

  135. MartinRanger says:

Oh my god that was terrible. Like I’d expect that from Ibanez. Or Gary Sheffield.

  136. TampaYankee says:

And this was an upgrade over Wise who was hitting better lately how?

    This Ichiro trade is frustrating.

    • MartinRanger says:

      34 years old. .222/.258/.381.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

That’s the same OPS Ichiro has right now. And he’s 38.

        Just saying.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

Why? It’s basically Ichiro over Wise, and that’s pretty obviously an upgrade

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

You can put him out there every day and know the position is going to be played well. He’s not going to hit .400 while he’s here. That, to me, counts for a hell of a lot and a definitely upgrade over a journeyman like Wise.

  137. captain kiwi says:

    earthworm jim, everybody

  138. captain kiwi says:

hiroki is pitching well. sox should only have 1, and the offense is… frustrating, but kuroda doing kuroda things. russell needs to work some magic now.

  139. Being 1 hit by Felix Dubrount is zero fun.

  140. MartinRanger says:

Nix is really getting good at that short-porch opposite field swing.

  141. Robinson Tilapia says:

Didn’t Max Scherzer have a frustrating “effectively wild” start against the Yanks at the start of the season?

    • Kramerica Industries says:

It was frustrating, but they were winning that game.

I could swear you are thinking of the ALDS game last year where Scherzer throw 100 pitches in five innings, but kept the Yankees off the board.

  142. The Real Greg says:

And by the way, for people complaining about Ichiro being out there tonight, its either Ichiro or Ibanez. Think about that.

  143. Hummingbird S. says:

Jeter has been owned tonight… great stuff from the leadoff hitter

  144. MartinRanger says:

Jeter half your offensive value consists in crushing lefties. This is bad.

  145. DERP says:

    Fuck off Derek.

  146. Kramerica Industries says:

Jeter’s just having a banner night.

  147. Widget says:

Kuroda is pitching a great game. Get the man some damn runs. Please.

  148. Karl Krawfid says:

    “Dick around”

  149. MartinRanger says:

    Wow this really sucks.

  150. Tom says:

1 hit allowed by Felix Doubront… and even that was a groundball single through the infield.

  151. The Real Greg says:

Guys, Doubront is not a crappy pitcher. Especially against the Yankees whom he beat at Fenway in the 4 game set. and held them down before the epic comeback

The game yesterday is the one we should have won.

    • Widget says:

He is garbage. You just hate the Yankees.

    • MartinRanger says:

Doubront is not nearly good enough that this offense should have 1 hit against him. CC’s start is irrelevant.

    • Tom says:

Who said he was crappy? Would it be possible to stop creating these ridiculous strawman?

He has a 4.54 ERA, and a FIp of 4.31, so he’s not exactly an ace who should be 1 hitting the Yankees.

      • The Real Greg says:

Phillip Humber was NO-HITTING the Yankees through 7 last year.
Doug Davis shut them out in Wrigley last year.

Should they have done that? No. But it happened. And Doubront is better than both of them.

        • Tom says:

So taking that the next step basically we should tip our hat to ANY pitcher?

          Nice logic.

I guess we should expect any pitcher with a below average ERA to 1 hit the Yankees now.

I get it now… never the offense’s fault… who could have expected the Yankees to come up with more than 1 groundball single (now 2) against an ace like Doubront.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

      97 ERA+ so he’s below league average.

  152. Karl Krawfid says:

    1 hit.

    5 walks.

Its the first pitch swinging that is annoying.

  153. fuck…nice play to save a run…but gotta get an out there Derek.

  154. Karl Krawfid says:

    Great defense.

  155. Kramerica Industries says:

    Again, banner night Jete.

  156. Hummingbird S. says:

Jeter killing the Yanks.. he has to make that catch

  157. Widget says:

so much for keeping the trash off the field. Crawford is a joke.

    • Cuso says:

That’s dangerously close to the Monday comment

      • Widget says:

no it’s not. It’s not even close. Crawford is not a good player. Stop making shit up.

        • Cuso says:

Sorry, did you just call Crawford trash? It’s not the same, it’s dangerously close – like I said.

          Not making shit up.

          • Widget says:

I would say the same thing if Punto got on base. He too is trash. It’s ok to say players of every race are trash or suck. Not everything is racial.

  158. DERP says:

  163. Cy Pettitte says:

    “fucking a” lol

  164. Mike Axisa says:

Hooray for an outfielder throwing to the correct base.

  165. that. was. fucking. incredible.

  166. Cuso says:

  167. Brian S. says:

Awwwwww poor Pedey can’t get an XBH when there isn’t a big dumb fucking wall in left field.

  168. Athenian says:

Really hoped the real Yanks would return tonight. One friggin hit, c’mon!

  169. Hummingbird S. says:

  170. Kramerica Industries says:

    That’s a game-saver, Hiroki.

Time to cash in with some runs of their own.

  171. Cy Pettitte says:

hope CC is in the dugout taking notes

  172. Cuso says:

Can we score some frigging runs please?

  173. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Nice job Hirok.

Now for some runs please … pretty please.

  174. Get Phelps Up says:

    now please score some runs.

  175. I really hope some stupid Political Correctness pansy organization goes all “think of the children” on Pedrioa, the Sox, and ESPN for that.

  176. The Troll says:

They desperately need an additional bat in that lineup. Ichiro’s not going to solve much of anything. I hope Cashman comes through.

  177. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I read a Tweet that said the Dodgers got Rollins and Howard. Can anybody confirm this?

  178. Hummingbird S. says:

awful swing.. that was a hanger

  179. Kramerica Industries says:

    This is pathetic.

  180. Widget says:

Greg’s pants must be soiled after that strike out. You gonna hold your Doubront blow up doll extra tight tonight Greggors?

  181. DERP says:

Fake rumor going around that says Shields going to the Braves for Teheran and Bethancourt. If this were real, who would have won?

  182. The Real Greg says:

It’s the Brett Cecil model. Fastball, change and curve. No wonder we struggle against him.

  183. The Troll says:

Getting owned by Felix is not so feliz.

  184. Hummingbird S. says:

lefty masher that can’t hit lefties.. great value

  185. MartinRanger says:

Well glad we’ve got Swisher back in the lineup.

  186. The Real Greg says:

    Get Scott Hairston please.

  187. Karl Krawfid says:

    Yep. Better without A-Rod.

  188. Kramerica Industries says:

It was Pedroia’s grittiness that allowed him to go to the ground and catch that.

  189. The Troll says:

Ok. It’s time to bench Andruw for a few games . . .

  190. Celerino Sanchez says:

Jones is f**king done. Couldn’t cut that ball off in the second. Can’t hit for his life.

    Team is too left-handed now.

Lucky to have the big lead. 3-7 in the last 10 after tonight’s poor effort.

  191. Anthony says:

  192. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Holy shit Andruw.

  193. The Real Greg says:

Felix Doubront’s career against the Yankees

    1-0 with a 3.18 ERA m 11 hits and 19 K’s in 17 innings (Not counting tonight)

    Crappy pitcher huh?

    • Mike Axisa says:

Yes, he is. What he does against one team is irrelevant. It’s 1/29th of the available information.

      • Celerino Sanchez says:

Seems like the Yankees have been putting a lot of efforts like this lately regardless of whether the pitcher appears to be really good or really crappy.

More to worry about than whether or not Doubrant’s any good.

    • Celerino Sanchez says:

Watching this…you’d think Cy Young was pitching…

    • Tom says:

Yes… below average this year unless you insanely look at 17 innings and consider that more meaningful than 100+ innings.

  194. I’ve been defending Jones a lot lately…but fuck Andruw…come on man.

  195. Cuso says:

Can the Andruw apologists for his Fielding prowess please be quiet for a month, now? Or still in denial?

  196. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

    Put pena out there
That was way worse than damon or matsui in 2009.

  197. captain kiwi says:

i know people hate ichiro for what he has(n’t) done at the plate, but seeing druw in left like that makes me appreciate the balls off of ichiro.

  198. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

Bottom 4 in the Yankees lineup have OBP of .305 or worse. It’s like a NL lineup they ran out there today.

  199. Karl Krawfid says:

    Kuroda hoe

  200. Kramerica Industries says:

    And another double play.

Seriously – when the hell do the Yankees cash in?

  201. Robbie hanging in there like a champ!!

  202. Mike N says:

I am feeling like the Yanks have got this game.

  203. captain kiwi says:

    god i love kuroda.

  204. Mike N says:

Kuroda looked nasty on that last AB.

  205. CBean says:

The Yankees really should get #HIROK some runs. He’s been awesome.

  206. Anthony says:

I am starting to feel legitimately bad for Kuroda. Its like the beginning of the season all over again….Kuroda has been pitching great but with 0 run support.

  207. Hummingbird S. says:

    RUSS!! YS special!

  208. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Old man in a Brosius jersey T.

  215. Mike N says:

Hahahahahahah! I’ve been hanging out with Dodgers fans today.

  216. Anthony says:

    That’s the speed I missed.

  217. MartinRanger says:

    That was lovely. Now steal.

  218. lol, Ichiro new he could beat that out and wanted to up his AVG and OBP instead of just OBP.

  219. Kramerica Industries says:

And now a baserunner as well.

Gotta get Ichiro home. Hopefully some more.

  220. Karl Krawfid says:

    Classic ichiro baby

  221. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Was that Thomas Friedman sitting next to Paul Simon?

  222. Get Phelps Up says:

    Please steal and THEN bunt.

  223. Kramerica Industries says:

    Umm, bunt?

    Heartily disagree. No. No. No.

  224. why the fuck is he bunting? let him steal on his own!!

  225. smurfy says:

Hiroki’s hit was perfect. Not threatening enough to take him out. Left him teetering…

  226. Karl Krawfid says:

Take the fucking bunt off jesus christ!

  227. Brian S. says:

  228. MartinRanger says:

Stop giving them outs! Nix has been hitting well lately!

  229. Ichiro should steal here. Odds are he’s going off speed to try to get the K.

  230. Hummingbird S. says:

thanks for nothing Nix… terrible AB

  231. Brian S. says:

    Chase Headley.

  232. Karl Krawfid says:

    Should have bunted.

  233. jjyank says:

Hopefully the righty coming in means Ichiro steals.

  234. Brian S. says:

If Girardi had any balls he would pinch hit Chavez.

  235. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Why the EF take the bunt off?

  236. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

RHP on the mound. Captain DP at the plate.

Please go on the first pitch, Ichiro.

  237. Cy Pettitte says:

Ichiro should be able to steal 2nd with Albers in

  238. Hummingbird S. says:

this has DP written all over if Ichiro doesnt steal

  239. Widget says:

  242. Get Phelps Up says:

  243. jjyank says:

    YES Ichiro. Thank you.

  244. Widget says:

    Steal 3rd.

  245. MartinRanger says:

One batter too late. But so nice to see the steal as an option again.

  246. Cy Pettitte says:

thank god Thompson didn’t do another shitty send and get Ichiro thrown out by 20 feet

  247. Hummingbird S. says:

awesome… another hit with RISP that doesnt score a run
now we are a DP away from not scoring

  248. Kramerica Industries says:

    Holy fucking shit.

How many times is that this week that a base hit didn’t score the runner from second?

Not the fault of the hitter at all. It’s just fucking annoying by now.

  249. MartinRanger says:

And more terrible luck with RISP.

    Classic hitting by Jeter there.

  250. Get Phelps Up says:

Jeter should steal 2nd here. No way they throw through.

  251. jjyank says:

In hindsight, holding Ichiro was smart. That was a damn good throw to home.

  252. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Squeeze bunt plz!!!!!! #AngelsBaseball #AllahAybar #RallyMonkey

  253. smurfy says:

alright! we just got rid of Albers, the bear.

  254. Kramerica Industries says:

Of all the times for Kurtis to strike out, this sure as fuck isn’t one of them.

  255. captain kiwi says:

ot but the mens 400m relay is on and always exciting

  256. bobtaco says:

Just get it in the air Grandy

  257. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

Robbie thompson please die. Fuck ichiro can score on that.

  258. Cuso says:

They keep a stat for everything.

So there has to be a stat that measures number of hits with RISP that DON’T score runs.

Because seriously, we’ve had a ton.

  259. Hummingbird S. says:

    awesome choke job by Grandy..

  260. Kramerica Industries says:

Not a strikeout, but just as worthless an AB.

  261. MartinRanger says:

    Well that was terrible.

Teix time to continue your hot-hitting ways.

  262. Cy Pettitte says:

Granderson just having a terrific series

  263. Jeter should’ve taken off for second the second he knew the throw was going through.

  264. Kramerica Industries says:

    Fucking typical.

  265. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Fuck that shit

  266. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  267. Anthony says:

  268. Mike N says:

  269. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

  270. MartinRanger says:

    Everything sucks.

  271. Hummingbird S. says:

    Pathetic. RISPfail at its finest.

  272. Widget says:

That is your 2012 New York Yankees. Terrible.

  273. Karl Krawfid says:

    Ugly ass inning.

  274. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

Ground ball to right field should score ichiro other teams like rays and angels go automaticly to homr from second or first to third. Girardi and thompson kill rallys with this dont lose shit.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

They kill rallies by not getting a runner thrown out at the plate?

    • Bunt Gardner says:

You should apply to be a MLB third base coach.

    • 28 this year says:

did you see the throw? Ichiro would have been dead in the water. The ball was hit hard and the outfielder got to it quickly, had momentum and it wasn’t that deep. And yes the Rays send runners like crazy and do you see where they are? The Yankees way is better, the proof is in the record.

  275. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

That’s fucking ridiculous. Less than 2 outs with a speedy runner on third in a 1 run game and your 2 and 3 hitters up and you can’t get the run across.

    That’s a losing recipe.

  276. MartinRanger says:

RISP has to normalize eventually, right?

  277. stuart a says:

same old story. a broken record. ba risp the usual.. grandy at least did not strike out for about the 123rd time..

joke….this offense is avg……nice pitch nix swung at, maybe he would have swung at it if it was going to the backstop.

grandy with 58 rbi/s because the guy strikes out a god awful amount…….

andruw jones charm is waring off fast. can the guy lose 10 pounds and give a crap?

  278. Mike N says:

  279. Kuroda had been brilliant tonight. a few to many base runners, but the two-seamers have been keeping the ball on the ground.

  280. MartinRanger says:

Don’t you dare put Soriano in if they tie it. Go with D-Rob.

    • Nathan says:

Closers in a tie game almost always result in the other team scoring…I don’t know why.

  281. Nathan says:

Another quality start by Kuroda…wish the offense would just show up and back him up.

Can’t say this enough: Kuroda has been more than I could have expected and more.

  282. Cy Pettitte says:

Kuroda is definitely having Dodgers flashbacks

  283. Kramerica Industries says:

Six outs left to tie this game or, hopefully, take the lead.

Kuroda pitched great tonight. It would be a crime for him to take an L.

  284. Get Phelps Up says:

    Hiroki you deserve better.

  285. captain kiwi says:

nice quick 8th. win this for hiroki guys, c’mon.

  286. Mr. Pink says:

This offense needs a shot in the arm. I was hoping for Justin Upton or Shin Soo Choo and got a washed up Ichiro. I’m not liking our chances in the playoffs with this offense. There’s no such thing as too many homers but when most of your hits are home runs it’s a problem. Our pitching is not what made us lose in the ALDS vs. the Tigers, it was our pitiful hitting with RISP and in general. The middle of the order isn’t putting fear in the opposing pitchers. Cano is hack happy and will swing at all pitches, high or low and Tex is up and down.

  287. stuart a says:

if there offense was remotely competent and close to what it has been the last few years they would have 68 wins or more.

their pitching has carried this team the whole year.

  288. Troll Hunter says:

REALLY??!!!!! A base hit doesnt score Ichiro from second???!!! WTF? Don’t they watch their own team? Worst in baseball with runners in scoring position! Plus whats up with letting ?nix swing? Manager and third base coach deserve the loss in this game.

  289. pistol pete says:

How much longer is Girardi going to have Granderson bat 2nd vs leftys leaving a gaping hole late in games and an easy pitching change for the opposing team. How he bats ahead of Cano and Swisher vs leftys is hard to explain. Lastly how many late rallys are we going to have to watch our best hitter not get up because Girardi won’t move Cano to the 3 hole, it’s ridiculous. Now we get him leading off again Just put Cano 3rd and leave him there instead of jerking him around among 3rd 4th and 5th.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Because he’s been better than Cano and Swisher vs. Lefties?

      • pistol pete says:

You can stick those stats where the sun don’t shine. Cano’s our best hitter period, bat him ahead of Grandy vs leftys.

  290. Hummingbird S. says:

    Could not be any slower..

  291. Karl Krawfid says:

That’s what happens when you take your time out of the box cano.

  292. Mr. Pink says:

Cano and Boras are going to have a lot of explaining to do in contract talks when the Yankees bring up his numbers hitting with RISP.

  293. Kramerica Industries says:

    Holy fuck Swisher.

Right over the middle of the plate.

  294. Karl Krawfid says:

Way to take a hanging breaking ball right down the middle.

  295. Hummingbird S. says:

Awful… swing the goddamn bat. That was not nasty, that was a breaking ball in the middle of the fucking plate.

  296. The Real Greg says:

Guys they are 8 games ahead in the division.

  297. I’m not a major league hitter, and I also get the benefit of seeing it from behind the pitcher…but Swish gave up on that ball way to early.

    • smurfy says:

I don’t think many ml hitters would swing at the last tail on the expected pitch movement. If it was gonna be a strike, it would have to cut in the side of the plate.

  298. Kramerica Industries says:

    Extra base hit.

    Score this motherfucker!

  299. MartinRanger says:

    Andruw ran into one.

  300. bobtaco says:

    Pinch runner?

  301. Mike N says:

Jones was chugging so slowly to second, I was afraid he was gonna be out.

  302. Jones is teh awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  303. smurfy says:

Andruw’s legs still get him to second. That’s why his knees are in there.

  304. Hummingbird S. says:

yay, another opportunity to fail with RISP… let’s see how they blow this one!

  305. Kramerica Industries says:

Well, time for a greedy wish:

    More Mussell!

  306. Troll Hunter says:

Guess who is going to be left at second? HINT: initials A.J.

  307. MartinRanger says:

By the way has anyone figured out where Aceves found 2-3 MPH on his fastball? Because he didn’t throw that hard as a Yankee.

  308. Brian S. says:

Swish swinging at ball four again.

  309. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

    Pena pinch run please

  310. CUYanks says:

No chance he’d use Ibanez here?

  311. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Pitch hit Ibanez?

  312. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

You gotta think if Bobby V gets fired after this season, he’ll probably never get another managerial job again.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

He still has to manage the Miami Marlins before his managerial career is officially over.

  313. Get Phelps Up says:

    PH Ibanez.

  314. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

    Ph ibanez run pena

  315. MartinRanger says:

  316. Cy Pettitte says:

    Russ Mart!!!

  317. captain kiwi says:

  318. bobtaco says:

  319. Mike N says:

  320. Anthony says:

    I cannot believe my eyes.

  321. Hummingbird S. says:

    RUSS!! One man army tonight!

  322. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  323. jjyank says:

  324. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  325. Kramerica Industries says:

    Mussell delivers again!

  326. Russel Martin coming through with a late clutch RBI? That can’t be right….

  327. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

That one was payback for shit risp fail.

  328. smurfy says:

Gotta say, Woo! for Russell and Andruw!

  329. Troll Hunter says:

I have never (well almost never) been so happy to be wrong!

  330. Karl Krawfid says:

Russ my god. Put us on ya back man.

  331. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Ichiro homaruna!

  332. Kramerica Industries says:

    Don’t stop now boys.

  333. 28 this year says:

FUCK YOU TROLLS!!!!! Russell says FUCK YOU!

  334. Get Phelps Up says:

Ichiro wants to hit a HR right here.

  335. Knoxvillain says:

What the fuck is with Russell Martin today? Did he forget who he was?

  336. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

    Nice arm by Ellsbury.

  337. Mike N says:

  338. MartinRanger says:

  339. Kramerica Industries says:

Well, now a patented Ichiro hit puts the Yankees ahead.

  340. Mr. Pink says:

Please don’t lose this game in the top of the 9th now.

  341. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

What in the blue hell is Orel talking about?

  342. Hummingbird S. says:

    comon Ichiro.. that’s weak

  343. Kramerica Industries says:

And ESPN needs to stop using that behind-the-plate camera. Seriously, that thing just sucks.

  344. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

    Robertson please

  345. God…what an awful camera angle. I had no idea where that ball was in regards to the strikezone, or after it was put in play.

  346. smurfy says:

Loved that on deck view of Crawford’s catch of Ichiro’s fader.

  347. Mike N says:

Anybody know (or know how to find) the historical stats on the home team winning a tie game going into the ninth inning?

    • Tom Q says:

Wish I had a link, but I did read something a few years back that said that if a game goes tied into the bottom of the ninth or extras, because of things the visiting team has to do to avoid even one run scoring, the odds shift into the favor of the home team.

  348. Tom Q says:

What kind of camera angle was THAT? It half-looked like it was going to fall in; the normal shot, I think I’d have known it was a routine fly ball.

  349. The Troll says:

    Awesome . . . Soriano. Great.

  350. Widget says:

Soriano facing Crawford, Pedroia, and Gonzalez. This won’t end well.

  351. Cuso says:

We’re going to see Padilla vs. Teix again

  352. Mike N says:

Stuart Scott’s suit fabric looks like fucking pajamas.

  353. Karl Krawfid says:

Really don’t want to see Soriano here man.

  354. Anthony says:

I love Sori but he has been sloppy of late c’mon MFIKY!

  355. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

    Not again
Mfiky is not made for tie games

  356. Mr. Pink says:

Ichiro looks like he’s a 38 year old player. I don’t know why everyone is expecting him to hit like he’s 28. Argh. When will Cashman make an impact trade that doesn’t end up sucking?

  357. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Soriano gtfo

  358. MartinRanger says:

  359. Cy Pettitte says:

    here we go again…

  360. Great start there Soriano…get your shit together dude.

  361. Karl Krawfid says:

See what the hell im talking about?

  362. Mike N says:

  363. RkyMtnYank says:

Get Sori the fuck out of there already!

  364. Hummingbird S. says:

here we go… Joe should have gone to D-Rob.

  365. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

    Soriano is an asshole.

  366. The Troll says:

Haha. Wow. This game is lost.

  367. Cuso says:

Girardi hasn’t figured our how to manage tie games in the ninth yet. It’s his only glaring bullpwn usage flaw.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

He does it the same way pretty much every other manager does it.

(Not that that’s necessarily a good thing)

  368. Mr. Pink says:

Stop putting Soriano in non-save situations. He always implodes! Eppley or D-Rob would’ve been better options.

  369. Hummingbird S. says:

    Grandy caught that!

  370. Kramerica Industries says:

Is this site slow for anyone else?

  371. captain kiwi says:

top of the 9th, runner on first, second batter with a high-fly to center…. anyone else get scared?

  372. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Nice camera work ESPN

  373. Kevin G. says:

    Good job ESPN

  374. Troll Hunter says:

    speaking of camera angles!!!LOL

  375. Tom says:

So Kuroda at 102 pitches was done?

I know it’s the 9th inning, but he seemed under control.

  376. Troll Hunter says:

YES puts all these others to shame!

  377. Is the site lagging terribly for anybody else, or is it just me?

  378. Cuso says:

But seriously with this amateur camera work…..

If Teix is a LH 1B, Crawford is out.

  379. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  380. Hummingbird S. says:

Great pitching Sori! Time to win this thing

  381. Anthony says:

TEX BACKWARD TROT, HAHA. Didn’t somebody just mention wanting to see that?

  382. Ichy and Irok hello to number 28 says:

Tex did that with style lol

  383. MartinRanger says:

Wow. That was a lot easier than expected.

Come-on, it’s been a while since we had a walk-off. Don’t make Martin do everything.

  384. Nathan says:

Have the Yankees had a walk-off this year? It doesn’t feel like it…but it feels like it’s time for one!

  385. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (former Manny's BanWagon) says:

Can’t believe the Sux didn’t have Crawford steal there.

  386. Brian S. says:

Teixeira should have moonwalked back to first base after fielding that grounder.

  387. Cy Pettitte says:

the shots of Bobby V. after the Sox do anything really make me appreciate Tito. I didn’t like him when he was managing the Sox but I could respect him. Bobby V. looks like such a clown every time the show him.

  388. Mike N says:

  389. pistol pete says:

Martin is saving his season with a number of clutch hits regardless of how lousy his batting avg is.

  390. I’m never going to stop saying it, because I get to watch so few games…that behind the catcher angle is the worst.

  391. Hummingbird S. says:

the strikezone is huge for red sox pitchers tonight

  392. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

I’m calling walk off win here.

  393. Anthony says:

Why is everyone so anti-Soriano coming in with a tie game in the ninth? Recently he hasn’t had his stuff but he was just fine tonight..

  394. JobaWockeeZ says:

Who is this asshole that’s overrating the Sox right now on the broadcast?

  395. 10th time one of the broadcasters have said “If Lester and Beckett were Lester and Beckett the Sox would be good.” Shit we get it.

  396. smurfy says:

I don’t believe Aceves is imbedded anymore, or he’s deep under cover, hiding behind a wicked fb.
