According to Andrew Marchand, the Yankees wanted RHP Bryan Mitchell to make Tuesday’s spot start, but his last Triple-A start had to pushed back due to a minor injury (he started last night). So he’s not an option. Also, C Austin Romine (thumb) has been activated off the Triple-A DL, reports Donnie Collins.
Triple-A Scranton (2-1 win over Toledo)
- CF Ben Gamel: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 K, 1 CS — third straight two-hit game with a triple … no idea when it last happened in the minors, but the last big leaguer with a triple in three straight games was Starling Marte in 2012 … last big leaguer with at least two hits and a triple in three straight games was Carl Crawford in 2009
- 3B Jose Pirela: 0-4, 1 RBI
- LF Ramon Flores: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
- 2B Rob Refsnyder: 1-4
- 1B Greg Bird: 0-4
- RF Aaron Judge: 2-3, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB — first game in eight days because he was “tight”
- C Gary Sanchez: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
- RHP Kyle Davies: 8 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 5/11 GB/FB — 57 of 97 pitches were strikes (59%)
Double-A Trenton (8-0 loss to Binghamton)
- CF Jake Cave: 0-4, 2 K
- 2B Tony Renda: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K — 12-for-23 (.522) during his little six-game winning streak
- RF Mark Payton: 0-4, 1 K
- RHP Eric Ruth: 4.2 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 4/6 GB/FB — 68 of 95 pitches were strikes (72%)
High-A Tampa was rained out. They’re going to try to play a doubleheader tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain basically all week though.
Low-A Charleston (4-3 loss to West Virginia)
- CF Slade Heathcott: 0-3 — another five innings in his second rehab game … my guess is the Yankees will use just about the entire 20-day rehab window, active Slade off the DL and option him to Triple-A, then call him back up when rosters expand on September 1st … he’d be down fewer than 20 days, which means he wouldn’t burn an option year
- SS Jorge Mateo: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 SB — he’s 70-for-84 (83%) in stole base attempts … no one else in pro baseball has more than 51 steals
- RF Austin Aune: 3-3, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI — his 33 extra-base hits are the second most in the system behind Judge
- DH Alex Palma: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
- LHP Rony Bautista: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 2/5 GB/FB — 47 of 81 pitches were strikes … 90/52 K/BB in 76 innings … he’s third in the system in strikeouts behind RHP Rookie Davis (101) and LHP Jordan Montgomery (93) despite throwing at least 14 fewer innings than Davis, Montgomery, RHP Luis Severino (fourth with 88 strikeouts in 93.1), and LHP Justin Kamplain (fifth with 84 strikeouts in 93 innings)
Short Season Staten Island (10-2 loss to Greenville)
- SS Kyle Holder: 0-4 — in a 1-for-26 (.038) rut
- 2B Thairo Estrada: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI — had been in an 0-for-12 slump
- RF Jhalan Jackson: 2-4, 1 K
- 3B Drew Bridges: 1-4
- RHP Yoel Espinal: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 H, 4/1 GB/FB
Rookie level Pulaski (13-5 win over Bristol)
- DH Carlos Vidal: 2-5, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB — 29-for-89 (.326) in his last 20 games
- SS Hyo-Jun Park: 1-4, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB — 9-for-35 (.257) during his little eight-game hit streak
- LF Nathan Mikolas: 0-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
- 2B Gosuke Katoh: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB — 13.0 BB% and 30.8 K% this year
- RHP Adonis Rosa: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 8/5 GB/FB
The two Rookie level GCL Yanks affiliates had their regularly scheduled Sunday off-day. The weather forecast tells me they would have been rained out anyway.
