C Miguel Flames and 3B Nelson Gomez, two of the Yankees top international signings last year, got some love in the Helium Watch section of this week’s Prospect Hot Sheet Prequel. They’re both playing the Dominican Summer League, but apparently they’re tearing the cover off the ball.
Triple-A Scranton was rained out. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader next Thursday.
Double-A Trenton (7-3 loss to Bowie)
- CF Mark Payton: 0-4, 1 K
- RF Tyler Austin: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — alternating one-hit games with no-hit games for about a week now
- SS Tyler Wade: 0-4, 1 E (throwing) — Double-A is hard
- RHP Taylor Garrison: 3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 38 of 58 pitches were strikes (66%)
- RHP Rookie Davis: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 4/5 GB/FB — 54 of 93 pitches were strikes (58%) … unusual he came out of the bullpen, but Garrison’s coming off an injury, so they probably wanted him to warm up at his own pace and not in the middle of a game
High-A Tampa (7-4 loss to Daytona)
- DH Jorge Mateo: 0-5, 2 K
- SS Abi Avelino: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
- CF Dustin Fowler: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B — threw a runner out at second … pretty excellent season for the former 18th round pick
- 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB — second homer in his last four games
- RHP Gabe Encinas: 5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 9 K, 1/2 GB/FB — 50 of 94 pitches were strikes (53%) … that sure looks like a high stress outing
Low-A Charleston (5-1 win over Augusta)
- SS Angel Aguilar & 2B Vince Conde: both 1-4, 1 K — Conde scored a run
- LF-RF Austin Aune: 0-3, 2 K
- RF Alex Palma: 0-2, 1 K — left the game for an unknown reason after popping out in foul territory in the fifth
- RHP Jordan Foley: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 2/3 GB/FB — 56 of 90 pitches were strikes (62%) … 90/39 K/BB in 84.1 innings
Both Short Season Staten Island games were postponed due to wet grounds. That is the regularly scheduled game and the completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to wet grounds after the first inning. They’ll finish the suspended game next Tuesday and make up the other game as part of a doubleheader next Wednesday.
Rookie level Pulaski (4-2 win over Elizabethton)
- CF Carlos Vidal: 0-3, 1 BB
- SS Hyo-Jun Park: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K — 13-for-33 (.364) during his eight-game hitting streak
- 2B Gosuke Katoh: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
- RHP Drew Finley: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 2/2 GB/FB
- RHP Simon De La Rosa: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 4/0 GB/FB — 59/28 K/BB in 44.2 innings
Rookie level GCL Yanks1 (2-0 win over GCL Astros)
- SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 E (throwing) — 17-year-old is hitting .302/.397/.375 with 16 walks and 13 strikeouts in 28 games
- 3B Donny Sands: 1-4
- CF Leonardo Molina: 0-4, 1 K
- RHP Alex Vargas: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 6/2 GB/FB — 29/11 K/BB in 36.2 innings for the 18-year-old, who the Yankees signed after his $200,000 deal with the Twins fell apart last year
- RHP Icezack Fleming: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 5/1 GB/FB — well then, that’ll do just fine Icezack
Rookie level GCL Yanks2 (5-2 loss to GCL Blue Jays)
- SS Yancarlos Baez: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
- RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4 — the Yankees announced him as a first baseman at the draft this year, but he’s only played the outfield
- 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K — last year’s top international signing ($3.2M) is hitting .140 with 16 strikeouts in 50 plate appearances (32%) in 15 pro games
- RHP Jordan Ovalles: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 3/2 GB/FB
