Game 39: Avoid the Sweep
Eovaldi dominates D'Backs, Yankees take series finale 4-2

RHP James Kaprielian (elbow inflammation) is expected to return to the mound in 4-6 weeks, Hal Steinbrenner told Brendan Kuty. The Yankees said they will be conservative with their top pitching prospect, so I’m guessing it’ll be closer to six weeks than four. That puts Kaprielian on target for a late-June return.

Triple-A Scranton Game One (4-2 in over Louisville in seven innings) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • CF Ben Gamel: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 E (fielding) — threw a runner out at second … 5-for-19 (.263) with three doubles in five games since being sent back down
  • RF Aaron Judge: 1-3, 1 RBI
  • C Gary Sanchez: 1-3, 1 HBP — 1-for-11 (.091) since his brief MLB cameo
  • DH Nick Swisher: 0-4, 1 K

  • LHP Tyler Olson: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 38 of 63 pitches were strikes (60%) … he has lefty specialist tools, but if they can keep him reasonably stretched out, hey, why not?
  • RHP Gio Gallegos: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 1/2 GB/FB — 23 of 45 pitches were strikes (51%) … 34/7 K/BB in 22.1 innings … he was recently bumped up to help cover for all the injuries and call-ups
  • LHP Tyler Webb: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K — 21 of 36 pitches were strikes (58%) … 25/5 K/BB in 17.2 innings … can’t help but wonder if he’ll hop on the bullpen shuttle at some point

Double-A Trenton (2-0 win over Richmond)

  • RF Austin Aune: 0-2
  • LHP Ian Clarkin: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 8/6 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) — 62 of 91 pitches were strikes (68%) … second straight strong outing, good to see

High-A Tampa Game Two (3-1 win over Jupiter in seven innings) they lost the perfect game with one out in the seventh

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
  • DH Angel Aguilar: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 SB — 10-for-27 (.370) with two doubles and a triple during his little seven-game hitting streak
