Game 99: After Aroldis
Yankees finally beat Keuchel in 2-1 series-opening win over Astros

Here are the day’s notes:

  • Baseball America provided free scouting reports for all players involved in today’s Aroldis Chapman trade, so don’t miss that. It’s not behind the paywall.
  • RHP Vicente Campos has been promoted to Triple-A Scranton, reports Shane Hennigan. He’s replacing RHP Luis Severino, who was called up to take Chapman’s spot on the roster.
  • Also, RHP Conor Mullee was in the Scranton clubhouse today, according to Hennigan. Mullee is on the MLB DL with a hand injury and this might indicate he’s close to starting a rehab assignment.
  • RHP Will Carter has been bumped up to Double-A Trenton, according to Nick Flammia. Carter’s promotion is part of the Chapman-Severino-Campos chain reaction.
  • LHP James Reeves and RHP Chad Martin were named the Pitchers of the Week in the High-A Florida State League and Rookie Appalachian League, so congrats to them.

Triple-A Scranton was rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Double-A Trenton (5-2 loss to Portland in seven innings) completed early due to rain

  • SS Tyler Wade & 3B Miguel Andujar: both 0-2 — Wade drew a walk and committed a fielding error
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 0-3, 1 RBI
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 0-3, 2 K — in an 8-for-40 (.200) rut
  • RHP Will Carter: 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 8/3 GB/FB — 55 of 85 pitches were strikes (65%) … Double-A debut for last year’s 14th rounder … he is the team’s second 2015 draftee to reach Double-A behind RHP Chance Adams

High-A Tampa had a scheduled off-day.

Low-A Charleston (5-4 loss to Hagerstown in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • CF Ricardo Ferreira: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 1 CS
  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 0-5, 3 K
  • C Luis Torrens: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 PB — 12/11 K/BB in 23 total games this year
  • DH Jhalan Jackson & 3B Mandy Alvarez: both 0-4 — Jackson got hit by a pitch and drove in a run
  • RF Alex Palma: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS
  • RHP Christian Morris: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 8/3 GB/FB — 58 of 92 pitches were strikes (63%)

Short Season Staten Island was rained out. They’ll play two games tomorrow.

Rookie Pulaski (6-1 loss to Elizabethton)

  • CF Blake Rutherford & 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-4, 3 K — Rutherford made a throwing error
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K — had been in a 5-for-47 (.106) slump
  • LF Estevan Florial: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K — threw a runner out at second … 10-for-31 (.323) during his eight-game hitting streak
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — 18-for-46 (.391) with seven doubles and a homer in his last ten games
  • RHP Rafael Lara: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 2/4 GB/FB
  • RHP Cody Hamlin: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 2/4 GB/FB

Rookie GCL Yanks East (4-2 loss to GCL Tigers East)

  • RF Erick Mendez: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K — 16-for-37 (.432) in his last ten games
  • DH Jordan Scott: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
  • RHP Jairo Garcia: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HB, 2/4 GB/FB — true story: Giants closer Santiago Casilla used false documents to pass himself off as three years younger than he really was back in the day, and the name he used was Jairo Garcia

Rookie GCL Yanks West (6-1 loss to GCL Blue Jays)

  • SS Diego Castillo: 0-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K — eight of his 14 hits have gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple, three homers)
  • DH Donny Sands: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 HBP — he’s caught one game since June 27th
  • C Miguel Flames: 0-2 — second game behind the plate this year … he caught five innings then was lifted from the game, presumably by design
  • RHP Alexander Rosario: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 10/1 GB/FB
