Yankees, Tanaka hang on for 3-2 win over Indians
Fan Confidence Poll: August 8th, 2016

Triple-A Scranton (5-0 win over Syracuse) one day after beating up Nationals RHP Lucas Giolito, they worked over Nationals RHP Reynaldo Lopez (6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 6 K), another one of the top pitching prospects in baseball

  • DH Ben Gamel: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB
  • RF Clint Frazier: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • LF Aaron Judge: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K — Shane Hennigan has video of the grand slam he hit off Lopez … Hennigan says Judge made a great leaping catch in left too
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 0-4, 2 K, 1 PB
  • 1B Chris Parmelee: 1-2, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — played five innings in his first rehab game in the field
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 0-1
  • CF Jake Cave: 1-3, 1 2B
  • LHP Jordan Montgomery: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 7/3 GB/FB — 63 of 97 pitches were strikes (65%) … he’s not going to be an ace or anything, but Montgomery definitely has a chance to help the Yankees in some capacity, maybe as a lefty David Phelps type
  • LHP Phil Coke: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HB, 0/2 GB/FB — 20 of 35 pitches were strikes (57%)
  • RHP Ben Heller: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — eight pitches, six strikes … 52/13 K/BB in 45 total innings this season

Double-A Trenton (7-2 win over Harrisburg)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB — got picked off first … he’s having such an impressive season for a 21-year-old in the Eastern League … the OPS won’t be sexy because he doesn’t hit for power, but that’s not his game … he’s a contact/OBP/defense guy
  • RF Dustin Fowler: 2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — having a great finish to the season
  • LF Billy McKinney: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 2-4, 2 R, 1 K
  • 1B Dante Bichette Jr.: 3-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 4 RBI — yep, he’s still kickin’ around the system
  • LHP Daniel Camarena: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 11/0 GB/FB — 53 of 74 pitches were strikes (72%)
  • RHP Cale Coshow: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 4/3 GB/FB — 26 of 41 pitches were strikes (63%)

High-A Tampa‘s game was postponed due to wet grounds and the threat of rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at some point during next weekend’s series.

Low-A Charleston (4-3 loss to Greenville)

  • CF Ricardo Ferreira: 2-4, 2 R, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4
  • SS Kyle Holder: 2-4 — first game since July 13th due to an unknown injury
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 1-2, 2 RBI, 1 BB — got picked off first … threw a runner out at the plate
  • DH Mandy Alvarez: 0-2, 1 K — he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the fourth
  • C Luis Torrens: 0-4, 1 K, 1 E (throwing)
  • RHP Luis Cedeno: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HB, 5/7 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) — 57 of 90 pitches were strikes (63%)

Short Season Staten Island (6-0 win over Lowell)

  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 0-4
  • 2B Nick Solak: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI — three homers in his last 14 games after hitting no homers in his first 25 pro games
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 0-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB
  • SS Angel Aguilar: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 K
  • RHP Simon De La Rosa: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 WP, 6/3 GB/FB — 55 of 89 pitches were strikes (62%) … 47/18 K/BB in 44.1 innings here after a 38/27 K/BB in 31 innings at Charleston

Rookie Pulaski (8-7 win over Greenville, walk-off style)

  • LF Estevan Florial: 0-5, 3 K
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 2-4, 3 R, 1 3B, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 SB, 2 CS — scored the winning run on a walk-off wild pitch
  • CF Blake Rutherford: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB
  • 3B Dermis Garcia: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K
  • C Donny Sands: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB — considering he’s new to catching, it’s impressive his offense hasn’t lagged given all the work he has to put in on defense
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB — six homers in 32 games this year after hitting four in 52 games with Staten Island last year
  • RF Leonardo Molina: 0-4
  • 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-2, 2 BB
  • RHP Rafael Lara: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 4/2 GB/FB

The two Rookie GCL Yanks teams had their regular Sunday off-day.
