The Yankees announced their first notable prospect promotion of the season earlier today: RHP Albert Abreu has been bumped up from Low-A Charleston to High-A Tampa. The team’s No. 9 prospect had a 1.84 ERA (2.54 FIP) with 22 strikeouts and three walks in three outings and 14.2 innings with the RiverDogs. Abreu, who came over from the Astros in the Brian McCann trade, threw 90 innings at Low-A last season as well.
Triple-A Scranton (4-2 loss to Indianapolis)
- SS Tyler Wade: 0-4, 2 K
- LF Clint Frazier: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K — here’s video of yesterday’s homer (talk about a hanger)
- DH Rob Refsnyder: 1-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K — started the season 1-for-13 (.077) … he’s gone 11-for-35 (.314) since
- 1B Ji-Man Choi: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
- CF Mason Williams: 0-3
- RHP Brady Lail: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 4/5 GB/FB — 53 of 91 pitches were strikes (58%)
- LHP Chasen Shreve: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3/0 GB/FB — 15 of 21 pitches were strikes (71%)
Double-A Trenton (6-5 loss to Portland, walk-off style)
- CF Rashad Crawford: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 SB — in a 3-for-25 (.120) slump
- SS Thairo Estrada: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
- 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-5, 1 K — his exactly one hit streak is up to six games
- RF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB
- 2B Abi Avelino: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
- LHP Justus Sheffield: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 7/5 GB/FB — 67 of 101 pitches were strikes (66%) … first time he’s allowed more than one run in a start this year … 16/10 K/BB in 17.1 innings so far, so walks are still a bit of an issue in the early going
High-A Tampa (7-3 loss to Lakeland)
- 3B Kyle Holder: 1-5 — fifth hit of the season! … he’s now 5-for-60 (.083)
- DH Didi Gregorius: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B — played the entire game as the DH … I imagine playing a full nine innings in the field on back-to-back days is on the rehab agenda
- SS Jorge Mateo: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 SB
- CF Trey Amburgey: 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — threw a runner out at third
- 2B Nick Solak: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K
- RF Jhalan Jackson: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K
- RHP Taylor Widener: 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 16/7 K/BB in 17.2 innings for the converted reliever
- RHP Colten Brewer: 1 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 1/0 GB/FB — his line so far: 7.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K … I wonder if the Yankees will look to get the starter-turned-reliever to Double-A soon … he spent all of last season at this level with the Pirates before being a minor league Rule 5 Draft pick
Low-A Charleston (4-3 loss to Asheville)
- DH Carlos Vidal: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
- LF Estevan Florial: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — 10-for-25 (.400) with three doubles and two homers in his last seven games

- CF Blake Rutherford: 0-4, 1 K — only the second time in 16 games he failed to reach base at least once
- C Donny Sands: 2-4
- 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K — had been in a 2-for-25 (.080) slump
- RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 1 K
- 2B Diego Castillo: 0-4, 1 K — in a 2-for-24 (.083) rut
- RHP Nick Green: 5.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 WP, 2 HB, 6/3 GB/FB — 55 of 86 pitches were strikes (64%) … 36 baserunners and 16 runs (ten earned) in 17 innings for the third piece in the Carlos Beltran
