Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barres RailRiders (10-5 win over Charlotte) they faced White Sox RHP Michael Kopech, arguably the top pitching prospect in the minors
- RF L.J. Mazzilli: 1-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 BB — his bases clearing double was the big blow that helped turn a 5-1 deficit into a 10-5 win after Kopech was out of the game
- 3B Gleyber Torres: 2-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI — went 0-for-3 against Kopech before doubling twice against the bullpen … three straight multi-hit games … he’s gone 14-for-33 (.424) since going 0-for-4 on Opening Day … Aaron Boone told Marc Carig the Yankees have had vice president of baseball operations Tim Naehring in Scranton watching Torres, so make of that what you will
- DH Mike Ford: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
- C Erik Kratz: 1-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB — The Kratzken
- SS Abi Avelino: 2-3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB — 9-for-18 during his little five-game hitting streak
- CF Rashad Crawford: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
- LHP Daniel Camarena: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 5/3 GB/FB — 39 of 70 pitches were strikes (56%)
- RHP Brady Lail: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 4/0 GB/FB — 19 of 33 pitches were strikes (58%) … easily his best outing in the super early going
- RHP Cody Carroll: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 26 of 41 pitches were strikes (63%) … 8/3 K/BB in 5.1 innings so far
Double-A Trenton Thunder (1-0 win over Akron)
- 2B Gosuke Katoh: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K — he’s reached base 16 times in nine games this year, and has reached at least once in every game
- DH Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 2 K
- RF Jhalan Jackson: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — he is 6-for-24 (.176) with one triple and five homers this year
- RHP Dillon Tate: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 6/0 GB/FB — 28 of 43 pitches were strikes (65%) … that’s him in the video at the top of the post … he left the game after a rain delay, hence the low pitch count … back-to-back strong starts to begin the season after starting last year on the disabled list with a shoulder injury
- RHP Jose Mesa Jr.: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 10 of 14 pitches were strikes (71%)
- RHP Kaleb Ort: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 17 of 27 pitches were strikes (63%) … 26-year-old has a 50/12 K/BB in 31.2 innings since signing out of an independent league last year … the Yankees jumped Ort from rookie ball last year to Double-A this year, which is a pretty good indication they think he has a chance to be more than organizational arm like most indy league pickups
High-A Tampa Tarpons (5-4 loss to Fort Myers) they faced a rehabbing Phil Hughes (oblique) tonight
- SS Hoy Jun Park: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding) — his batting average went from .321 to .281 in one game, which is a good reminder it’s still crazy early
- CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 1 BB
- 3B Brandon Wagner: 3-5, 1 R — 13-for-40 (.325) with three doubles and two homers in ten games this year … not sure I’d call him a sleeper prospect, but Wagner is more than your run of the mill corner infield minor league masher
- RF Isiah Gilliam: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K — 10-for-23 (.435) in his last five games
- LF Pablo Olivares: 0-3
- RHP Mike King: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 Balk, 7/2 GB/FB — 57 of 91 pitches were strikes (63%) … he came over in the Caleb Smith/Garrett Cooper trade with the Marlins
Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (4-3 loss to Kannapolis)
- 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-6, 1 R, 1 K
- SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 2 BB
- RF Steven Sensley: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — second straight game with a homer … 13-for-35 (.371) with seven walks and seven strikeouts in ten games so far
- CF Leonardo Molina: 1-5
- LHP Dalton Lehnen: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 6/2 GB/FB — 57 of 90 pitches were strikes (63%)
