Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (10-4 win over Buffalo)

  • 2B Thairo Estrada: 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI — here’s video of his first home run … this is his third career two-homer game, and I was surprised to see he had that many … he had a double off the top of the wall in his last game as well (it was originally called a homer before being overturned on replay), so he was pretty darn close to hitting three homers in two games … they are using the MLB ball in Triple-A this year, so power seems to be up all around the level … Thairo turning into the 15-20 homer guy because of the ball would be pretty fun
  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K — three homers in eight Triple-A games after five homers in 118 Double-A games last year … hooray for the MLB ball
  • RF Ryan McBroom: 2-3, 3 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 HBP
  • RHP Drew Hutchison: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 54 of 89 pitches were strikes (61%), plus he picked a runner off first base
  • LHP Rex Brothers: 1 IP, zeroes, 2/0 GB/FB — seven of nine pitches were strikes

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game One (3-2 win over Portland in ten innings) completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to rain after the top of the third inning

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K
  • LF Ben Ruta: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB — hitting .385/.484/.577 with three doubles, one triple, five walks, and four strikeouts in seven games so far … last year he hit .300/.350/.441 (124 wRC+) between Tampa and Trenton … he turns 25 in June and he wasn’t a high draft pick (30th round in 2016), but at some point a guy hits so much you have no choice but to pay attention
  • 3B Brandon Wagner: 0-2, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 HBP — walk-off sac fly
  • CF Rashad Crawford: 0-3
  • RHP Brody Koerner: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 4/3 GB/FB — 26 of 40 pitches were strikes (65%) … he started yesterday, before the rain
  • RHP Albert Abreu: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 2/1 GB/FB — 54 of 88 pitches were strikes (61%) … technically a relief appearance, but he “started” the suspended game today … 6/6 K/BB in eight innings so far … would be pretty cool to see him put together a nice little run and get himself to Scranton at midseason, then pitch himself into consideration for a September call-up
  • RHP Daniel Alvarez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1/0 GB/FB — ten of 17 pitches were strikes (59%) … the walk was intentional to set up the double play with the runner at second base as part of the extra-innings tiebreaker rule, and got out of the inning to set up Wagner for the walk-off

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game Two (1-0 win over Portland in seven innings)

  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 0-2, 1 BB, 2 K
  • LF Ben Ruta: 0-2, 1 K
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 1-2, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — a walk-off sac fly and a game-winning homer makes for a nice day at the park
  • 2B Angel Aguilar: 0-2
  • RHP Garrett Whitlock: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 5/3 GB/FB – 58 of 87 pitches were strikes (67%) … 10/2 K/BB in 12 innings so far

High-A Tampa Tarpons (7-6 loss to Daytona)

  • CF Pablo Olivares: 1-4, 1 K — threw a runner out at second
  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, 1 R — got picked off second … now 14-for-33 (.424) on the season … he has multiple hits in six of his eight games
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 0-4, 4 K — 1-for-11 (.091) with eight strikeouts in his last three games
  • LF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 3 K
  • C Jason Lopez: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K — had been 2-for-14 (.143) with no extra base hits prior to this game
  • RHP Miguel Yajure: 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 6/6 GB/FB — 55 of 85 pitches were strikes (65%)

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (5-0 loss to Greensboro)

  • CF Josh Stowers: 0-4, 1 K
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 0-4, 3 K
  • DH Josh Breaux: 0-4, 2 K — here’s video of yesterday’s homer
  • LF Canaan Smith: 1-4, 1 K, 1 E (fielding) — 1-for-10 in three games since coming up from Extended Spring Training
  • RHP Luis Gil: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 5/2 GB/FB — 49 of 75 pitches were strikes (65%) … 9/6 K/BB in 7.1 innings through two games
  • RHP Daniel Bies: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 48 of 82 pitches were strikes (59%) … last year’s seventh rounder had a 46/9 K/BB in 32.2 innings during his pro debut last year

The Short Season Staten Island Yankees, Rookie Pulaski Yankees, and two Rookie Gulf Coast League Yankees teams begin play in June.
