Yankees can't finish sweep, drop finale 7-4 to Twins

Thanks to his contributions to Short Season Staten Island’s ten-inning no-hitter last night, RHP Drew Finley landed in today’s Prospect Report. It’s not behind the Baseball America paywall, so check it out.

Triple-A Scranton (1-0 win over Gwinnett) faced RHP Joel De La Cruz, who actually spent a day or two on the Yankees’ roster last season, but did not appear in a game

  • CF Ben Gamel: 1-4 — hitting .370/.452/.520 with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts in his last 24 games
  • RF Aaron Judge: 0-1, 1 BB
  • C Gary Sanchez: 0-2, 1 K
  • LF Jake Cave & 1B Nick Swisher: both 1-3
  • DH Cesar Puello: 0-3
  • LHP Phil Coke: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 5/4 GB/FB — 38 of 57 pitches were strikes (67%)

  • RHP Matt Wotherspoon: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 12 of 18 pitches were strikes (67%)

Double-A Trenton (3-1 win over Binghamton)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 2-4, 1 E (throwing) — had been in a 3-for-21 (.143) slump
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 0-4, 2 K
  • LF Mark Payton: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BI, 1 K — threw a runner out at first
  • RHP Ronald Herrera: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 2/10 GB/FB — 55 of 78 pitches were strikes (71%) … two earned runs or less in three of his last four starts
  • RHP Jonathan Holder: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — nine of 13 pitches were strikes (69%) … up to 53/5 K/BB in 35.2 innings

High-A Tampa is off until tomorrow for the All-Star break.

Low-A Charleston (5-1 win over West Virginia)

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K — five walks and two strikeouts in his last three games
  • SS Kyle Holder: 0-5, 1 K
  • 1B Chris Gittens: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — seven homers in his last 13 games … he leads the system with 12 homers (Judge and 3B Miguel Andujar are second with ten each)
  • 3B Angel Aguilar: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • DH Jhalan Jackson: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • RF Alex Palma: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K — second homer in eleven games here … he hit one homer in 81 games at this level last year
  • CF Leonardo Molina: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 K — 25.0% strikeout rate and 5.8% walk rate
  • LHP Nestor Cortes: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HB, 5/6 GB/FB — 63 of 95 pitches were strikes (66%) … 53/11 K/BB in 43.2 innings

Short Season Staten Island (8-6 win over Aberdeen)

  • 2B Chris Godinez: 3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI — nice rebound from his 1-for-10, six strikeout game the other night
  • LF Dalton Blaser: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB — this year’s eighth rounder has reached base 13 times in 19 pro plate appearances (.684 OBP)
  • C Luis Torrens: 1-3, 3 RBI, 1 BB — please please please stay healthy
  • 1B Drew Bridges: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
  • LF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • 3B Mandy Alvarez: 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B
  • RHP Anyelo Gomez: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 WP, 5/4 GB/FB — 59 of 89 pitches were strikes (66%)
  • RHP Brooks Kriske: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 3/1 GB/FB — 18 of 24 pitches were strikes (75%) … pro debut for this year’s sixth rounder
  • RHP David Palladino: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 2/0 GB/FB — 20 of 29 pitches were strikes (69%) … I feel like he’s simultaneously playing for three affiliates at once, he’s all over the place

Rookie level Pulaski begins their season Thursday.

Rookie level GCL Yanks East & West being their seasons Friday.
