Yankees blow big opportunity in the 10th, fall 2-1 Giants in 12 innings

Triple-A Scranton manager Al Pedrique told Sweeny Murti that OF Aaron Judge should return to the lineup in 4-5 days. Shane Hennigan says Judge hit against soft toss and did some long toss throwing today, so he’s working his way back. Good news.

Triple-A Scranton (5-4 win over Durham)

  • CF Ben Gamel: 1-3, 1 R, 3 K
  • RF Mason Williams: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB — that’s his sixth steal of the season, and no, it’s not a career high … he stole 15 bases (!) back in 2012
  • DH Ike Davis: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB
  • LF Cesar Puello: 2-3, 1 R, 1 HBP, 3 SB — that’s hit-by-pitch No. 14 … no one else in the system has more than seven
  • LHP Dietrich Enns: 5 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1/4 GB/FB — 55 of 97 pitches were strikes (57%)
  • LHP Tyler Webb: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 4/0 GB/FB — 20 of 37 pitches were strikes (54%)
  • RHP Johnny Barbato: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1/0 GB/FB — ten of 19 pitches were strikes (53%) … he’s been really good of late, but this wasn’t his best outing
  • RHP Jonathan Holder: 2 IP, zeroes, 3 K, 3/0 GB/FB — 20 of 29 pitches were strikes … two-inning save in a one-run game in his second Triple-A outing

Double-A Trenton (8-5 win over New Hampshire)

  • 2B Tyler Wade: 1-5, 1 BB, 3 K
  • LF Mark Payton: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 2-6, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — that’s only his fourth extra-base hit in his last 23 games
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K, 1 PB
  • 1B Mike Ford: 1-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 E (missed catch) — two homers in seven games back from the thumb injury
  • SS Cito Culver: 3-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K — he’s hitting .251/.316/.331 on the year, which makes this his best offensive season (by OPS) since he was in A-ball in 2013
  • LHP Jordan Montgomery: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K, 3/3 GB/FB — 44 of 81 pitches were strikes (54%) … had walked two or fewer in 14 of his 17 starts coming into this game
  • RHP Matt Wotherspoon: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 44 of 70 pitches were strikes (63%)

High-A Tampa Game One (10-7 loss to Palm Beach) completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to rain in the top of the third inning

  • SS Jorge Mateo: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K — 3-for-18 (.167) since returning from the suspension
  • CF Jeff Hendrix: 4-4, 2 R, 1 BB — this is getting ridiculous … he’s 17-for-26 (.654) with Tampa and 57-for-119 (.479) in his last 31 games
  • 3B Thairo Estrada: 0-5, 1 K
  • RF Austin Aune: 0-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 3-5 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI — 8-for-20 (.400) in his last five games
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 1-5, 1 RBI
  • LHP Josh Rogers: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 0/4 GB/FB — 34 of 59 pitches were strikes (58%) … he started yesterday, before the rain
  • RHP Jose Mesa Jr.: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 31 of 57 pitches were strikes (54%)

High-A Tampa Game Two (2-0 win over Palm Beach in seven innings)

  • SS Jorge Mateo: 0-3
  • DH Jeff Hendrix: 1-3, 1 R — this qualifies as a slump for him
  • RF Austin Aune: 2-3, 1 RBI
  • 3B Thairo Estrada: 0-2, 1 K
  • RHP Yefrey Ramirez: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 4/4 GB/FB — 46 of 72 pitches were strikes (64%) … Big Yef keeps on plugging along … who knows what’ll happen down the road, but so far it looks like the Yankees struck minor league Rule 5 Draft gold

Low-A Charleston (14-10 win over Hagerstown)

  • CF Ricardo Ferreira: 1-5, 3 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 E (fielding) — 16-for-21 (76%) in steal attempts in 33 games
  • DH Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Mandy Alvarez: 1-6, 1 R, 1 2B — Mandy’s in a little 3-for-23 (.130) rut
  • RF Alex Palma: 4-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 4 RBI — 14-for-36 (.389) in his last ten games
  • SS Gosuke Katoh: 0-4, 1 R, 1 K

Short Season Staten Island (8-4 loss to Tri-City)

  • DH Carlos Vidal: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 2B Nick Solak: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — one day after hitting his first pro homer, he hits his second
  • 3B Drew Bridges: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB — his last 13 hits: eight doubles, three homers, two singles
  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 1 CS — first pro homer for this year’s fifth rounder
  • RHP Kolton Mahoney: 6 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 1 HB, 3/9 GB/FB — 49 of 89 pitches were strikes (55%), plus he picked a runner off first

Rookie Pulaski (5-4 win over Kingsport, walk-off style) they scored three in the eighth and one in the ninth for the win

  • CF Blake Rutherford: 1-5, 1 3B, 2 K — has a 25.0% strikeout rate so far, which is lower than I expected … seems like he’s been good for a strikeout or two each game
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K — reached base on the walk-off throwing error
  • LF Estevan Florial: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP — threw a runner out at second
  • 3B Dermis Garcia: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K, 2 E (both fielding) — eleven errors in 26 games for the guy who signed as a shortstop but has already had to move to third
