Tanaka gets hammered again, Yankees fall 9-5 to Rays
Tanaka and the Dingers 2017 Edition

Josh Norris was at last night’s Double-A Trenton game, and he posted video of SS Gleyber Torres’ grand slam and 3B Miguel Andujar’s home run. Here’s the link. Norris also wrote something on RHP Domingo Acevedo’s Double-A debut, so check that out too.

Triple-A Scranton (5-4 win over Rochester in eleven innings, walk-off style)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (missed catch)
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K — six homers in 37 games this year after hitting 12 homers in 132 games last year … getting out of Trenton is good news for a left-handed hitter
  • DH Clint Frazier: 1-5, 2 K
  • 1B Mike Ford: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — 9-for-30 (.300) with two doubles and four homers since the promotion
  • LF Mason Williams: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Mark Payton: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 K — walk-off single … also threw a runner out at second
  • 2B Cito Culver: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 E (missed catch) — seven homers in 30 games!
  • LHP Caleb Smith: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 5/4 GB/FB — 64 of 104 pitches were strikes (62%)
  • LHP Tyler Webb: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 31 of 44 pitches were strikes (70%) … 32 strikeouts and zero walks in 22 innings this year … he’s 26, left-handed, and at Triple-A for the third straight full season … being a Rule 5 Draft pick this spring might have been his best chance to reach MLB at this point
  • RHP Ben Heller: 2 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 4/0 GB/FB — 13 of 18 pitches were strikes (72%) … 28/7 K/BB in 21.1 innings

Double-A Trenton is currently in extra innings. Here’s the box score. I’ll update this post once the game ends, as long as that happens reasonably soon. DH Tyler Austin went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in his first minor league rehab game. That’s the most important bit of news from this game.

High-A Tampa Game One (7-1 loss to Daytona in seven innings)

  • SS Jorge Mateo: 0-3, 1 K
  • 3B Kyle Holder: 1-3, 1 K
  • DH Tito Polo: 1-3, 1 CS
  • RF Trey Amburgey & 2B Nick Solak: both 0-3 — Solak struck out
  • RHP Albert Abreu: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 3/2 GB/FB — 31 of 44 pitches were strikes (70%) … first start since May 1st … he missed close to three weeks with elbow inflammation

High-A Tampa Game Two (13-2 loss to Daytona in seven innings) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • SS Kyle Holder: 2-4 — had three hits in the doubleheader after going 3-for-28 (.107) in his previous seven games
  • 2B Nick Solak: 1-4, 3 K
  • CF Tito Polo: 2-4, 1 K
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB
  • RHP Erik Swanson: 4.2 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 7/3 GB/FB, 1 E (fielding) — 69 of 89 pitches were strikes (78%) … he allowed two runs total in his first four starts and 24 innings
  • LHP James Reeves: 1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HB, 1/0 GB/FB — 22 of 32 pitches were strikes (69%) … first game of the season after suffering an elbow strain early in Spring Training

Low-A Charleston (18-4 beatdown of Augusta) everyone in the starting lineup reached base at least twice

  • DH Estevan Florial: 4-5, 4 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB — had been in a 3-for-25 (.120) slump
  • 3B Angel Aguilar: 2-5, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
  • CF Blake Rutherford: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB — 12-for-34 (.353) with four walks and three strikeouts in his last nine games
  • C Donny Sands & 1B Isiah Gilliam: both 2-5, 1 R — Gilliam drove in two runs, Sands drove in three
  • 2B Diego Castillo: 3-5, 2 R
  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, 3 R, 1 BB
  • RHP Nick Green: 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HB, 2/1 GB/FB — 25 of 45 pitches were strikes (56%) … he’d been getting better and better with each start, so I guess he was due for a clunker
