Yankees 6, Royals 3: A series win in Happ's debut
Fan Confidence Poll: July 30th, 2018

RHP Domingo Acevedo was placed on the Double-A disabled list with a biceps injury, the team announced. Acevedo told Sean Miller he’s going for an MRI tomorrow. “During the week I felt excellent, and then this came out of nowhere. Most of the time you feel a little something in your arm, but this time it was getting worse, and I did not want to make it worse,” Acevedo said.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (7-4 loss to Gwinnett)

  • LF Mark Payton: 0-4, 3 K — ejected for arguing balls and strikes
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 1-4, 1 K — with 1B Luke Voit on the way, I reckon Austin will see more time in the outfield going forward
  • DH Mike Ford: 0-2 — also ejected for arguing balls and strikes … not a good day for the home plate umpire
  • SS Abi Avelino: 1-4, 2 K
  • LHP Nestor Cortes: 7 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 5/10 GB/FB — 66 of 95 pitches were strikes (69%) … had to wear this one because the bullpen is short due to recent workloads and all the trades
  • RHP Brody Koerner: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K — 13 pitches, nine strikes … he left the game after being hit by a comebacker
  • RHP J.P. Feyereisen: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 17 of 31 pitches were strikes (55%) … 2.17 ERA and 46/18 K/BB in 49.2 innings this year … he certainly moved up a few spots on the bullpen depth chart after all the trades

Double-A Trenton Thunder (4-1 win over Portland)

  • 2B Gosuke Katoh: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — 13-for-33 (.394) with three doubles and one triple in his last nine games
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 SB
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Ryan McBroom: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K — have to think he’s stuck down here for a while now that Voit and Austin are with Scranton
  • SS Kyle Holder: 3-3, 1 RBI — 9-for-30 (.300) during his eight-game hitting streak
  • RHP Brian Keller: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1  ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 1 HR, 1 HB, 1/5 GB/FB — 64 of 101 pitches were strikes … nine strikeouts are a season high

High-A Tampa Tarpons (1-0 win over Palm Beach, walk-off style)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K — got picked off first … 8-for-20 (.400) with four doubles, five walks, and five strikeouts during his five-game hitting streak … would be great to see him hit the cover off the ball the rest of the way after what was essentially a lost first half
  • 2B Diego Castillo: 0-3, 1 BB
  • LF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K — walk-off single
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 1-3, 2 K
  • 1B Steven Sensley: 0-3, 1 K
  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 1-3, 1 K, 1 CS — he’s hitting .267/.387/.374 with nearly as many walks (50) as strikeouts (59) … I wonder if we’ll see him make a late-season cameo in Trenton
  • RHP Nick Green: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 12/5 GB/FB — 60 of 95 pitches were strikes (63%) … 3.16 ERA with 18.9% K%, 11.8 BB%, and 66.4 GB% in 102.2 innings

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (3-2 loss to Greenville)

  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-5
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • CF Leonardo Molina: 1-4, 1 K
  • RHP Roansy Contreras: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 WP, 3/5 GB/FB — 58 of 88 pitches were strikes (66%) … his worst start of the season, which is pretty telling because this is hardly a disaster … he allowed five earned runs total in his first six starts and 34.2 innings

Short Season Staten Island Yankees Game One (2-0 win over Tri-City in seven innings)

  • LF Canaan Smith: 0-3, 2 K
  • RF Junior Soto: 1-3, 1 R
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 0-2, 1 BB
  • RHP Frank German: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 34 of 49 pitches were strikes (69%) … 1.10 ERA and 20/ K/BB in 16.1 innings for this year’s fourth rounder
  • RHP Drew Finley: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 0/1 GB/FB — 14 of 26 pitches were strikes (54%) … 18/13 K/BB in 13.2 innings

Short Season Staten Island Yankees Game Two (2-1 loss to Tri-City in eight innings, walk-off style) makeup of Friday’s rainout

  • DH Josh Breaux: 1-3 — played six innings in his first game since July 11th due to a hamstring issue
  • 1B Miguel Flames: 0-3
  • SS Eduardo Torrealba: 0-3
  • RHP Shawn Semple: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 6/3 GB/FB — 47 of 78 pitches were strikes (60%)

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (3-1 win over Greeneville)

  • 2B Ezequiel Duran: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • DH Saul Torres: 1-4, 2 K
  • RHP Pedro Barrios: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HB, 6/3 GB/FB — 54 of 76 pitches were strikes (71%) … 1.47 ERA and 24/5 K/BB in 30.2 innings for the 19-year-old

The two Rookie GCL Yankees teams had their regular Sunday off-day.
