Game 119: Homefield Advantage
Yankees 4, Rays 1: Don't worry, be Happ-y

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Game One (7-3 win over Indianapolis in five innings) completed early due to rain … they scored seven runs in the fifth right before the rain

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — in a little 3-for-24 (.125) slide
  • RF Ryan McBroom: 1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI
  • 1B Mike Ford: 2-2, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 HBP — dude is hitting .364/.421/.659 with eleven doubles, five homers, and only six strikeouts in his last 23 games
  • DH Luke Voit: 2-3, 1 2B
  • CF Mark Payton: 0-2, 1 HBP
  • 3B Gio Urshela: 1-2, 1 R — 8-for-21 (.381) during his six-game hitting streak
  • RHP Erik Swanson: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 1 HB, 2/5 GB/FB — 61 of 90 pitches were strikes (68%) … 121/25 K/BB in 103.1 innings

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Game Two was rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Double-A Trenton Thunder (5-2 loss to Portland in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 3-5, 1 RBI — pretty crazy his season batting line is sitting at .260/.300/.432 … seems like he’s been getting two or three hits a day for three months
  • SS Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
  • LHP Ryan Bollinger: 7 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 5/8 GB/FB — 63 of 107 pitches were strikes (59%) … one run allowed in three starts and 20 innings since his most recent big leaguer for a day stint

High-A Tampa Tarpons (6-1 loss to Palm Beach)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 1 K
  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-4. 1 R
  • LF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 3 K, 3 E (two fielding, throwing) — he’s had better days at the park
  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 0-4
  • 1B Steven Sensley: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 WP, 6/5 GB/FB — 58 of 93 pitches were strikes (62%) … 132/54 K/BB in 110.1 innings

The Low-A Charleston RiverDogs had a scheduled off-day.

The Short Season Staten Island Yankees are off until tomorrow for the All-Star break. The All-Star Game itself was played tonight (SOU 7, NOR 1). Staten Island did not have an All-Star this year despite having several deserving players, such as RHP Juan De Paula (2.19 ERA) and RHP Harold Cortijo (2.27 ERA). Not sure what what’s about. I thought every team got an All-Star representative. Well, whatever.

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (5-4 win over Danville)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 0-4
  • C Anthony Seigler: 0-4
  • CF Everson Pereira: 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 CS — had been 5-for-28 (.179) with one walk in his first seven games back from a mystery injury
  • DH Mickey Gasper: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K — six homers in his last 12 games and eight walks in 33 games overall for this year’s 27th rounder
  • 2B Ezequiel Duran & 3B Nelson Gomez: both 0-4 — Duran struck out once, Gomez twice … Duran also committed a fielding error
  • RHP Luis Medina: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1/0 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) — 30 of 67 pitches were strikes (45%) … 41/38 K/BB in 30.2 innings … kid is 19 years old and it wouldn’t surprise me if he spends seven years in the minors a la Dellin Betances

Rookie GCL Yankees East (4-1 loss to GCL Tigers West)

  • CF Isiah Pasteur: 0-4, 3 K
  • LF Alexander Santana: 1-4, 3 K
  • C Alex Guerrero: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 PB
  • RHP Juan Then: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 8/2 GB/FB — 3.07 ERA and 37/11 K/BB in 44 innings for the 18-year-old

Rookie GCL Yankees West (6-2 loss to GCL Phillies East)

  • CF Raimfer Salinas: 0-3, 1 K — first game since June 9th
  • SS Roberto Chirinos: 1-4, 1 2B, 3 K
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 K — 17-year-old is now tied with two 21-year-olds for the league lead with seven homers
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • RHP Nelvin Correa: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 7/5 GB/FB
Game 119: Homefield Advantage
Yankees 4, Rays 1: Don't worry, be Happ-y
