High-A Tampa was rained out, Tropical Storm Fay is still in the area. I’m guessing they’ll try for two tomorrow.

Low-A Charleston had their doubleheader with Columbus rained out. They’ve got tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday to make these games up.

Short Season Staten Island (5-4 win over Vermont in 10 innings)

Not a good night for the big club

Jake K. says:

Mike, what kind of prospect is Jason Jones?

Also, when you expect Humberto to begin moving up through the system?

Mike A. says:

Jones isn’t a prospect, just a very good org guy. That said, he could made a spot start in the bigs and not embarass himself.

I think Humberto will just finish out the year in the GCL and Instructional League. Next year they’ll look to move him.

Jake K. says:

Thanks for the knowledge!

Kay Sturns says:

i want them to start him

Jamal G. says:

Just to be clear, Pat Venditte is nothing more than a novelty for DotF postings, right?

Also, last night when I asked about Brandon Lair in comparison to Billy Butler, I meant his power specifically. Sorry.

Mike A. says:

Isn’t DotF itself just a novelty? ;)

Butler has more power than Laird. Butler can hit pitcher’s pitches a long ways, Laird can’t.

Ivan says:

He’s a mistake hitter than.

Rick in Boston says:

It just shows he knows what to do with bad pitches. I’ll take a guy who drives balls into the gaps over a guy who’ll pop up those mistakes.

A.D. says:

Lassiter 5 for his 1st 8, not too shabby.

Looks like Jason Jones is locked back in after a couple hiccup starts, whish they’d give him a look at AAA, maybe when/if Hughes gets the call

D.B. says:

melancon gave up 2 runs

Mike A. says:

Dunno happened there. Fixed now. Thanks for the heads up.

A.D. says:

Vindette just keeps tossing 0s

Jamal G. says:

The Chinese should be ashamed of themselves. They’ve made a mockery of these Olympic Games.

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/.....id=3547713

Jake K. says:

What do you expect from the Chinese government? In preparation for these games they were bulldozing houses and locking up dissidents. They denied visas to Olympians who are active in the effort to stop the slaughter in Darfur, Sudan, which the Chinese have supported/enabled. It’s been an amazing Olympics, but that government is fucking scary.

A.D. says:

i feel like its the IOC that makes a mockery of every games

Jake K. says:

The IOC tries to claim the moral high ground, but it’s all about one thing: $.

Mike A. says:
Andy in Slightly Flooded Daytona says:

One positive thing from the drug testing is that these Olympics have had some of the hottest female competitors ever. mmmmmm Lolo.

A.D. says:

pretty much, more viewer friendly

Jake K. says:

D.B. says:

its about time smith got a hit

Brandon says:

He can suck all season it doesn’t matter he’d be a college freshmen this year if he hadn’t signed aslong as next year he comes out stronger you shouldn’t worry.

Ivan says:

Hey Mike A, have you heard of Montero having a wierd stance?

Mike A. says:

No. Saw him in the Futures Game, nothing out of the ordinary.

Ivan says:

What impress you about Montero the most?

Mike A. says:

Gotta be the bat, no? The kid hits everything for power. You can’t teach that kind of pop.

Ivan says:

Yea that’s obvious, but the hitting for avg and going the other way is what impress me more.

Jamal G. says:

Don’t read into nyyfans.com to much, they have gotten a bit iffy.

Ivan says:

That’s where I got from too.

A.D. says:

Melacon is so economical that he gives up 2 runs, and still throws less than 20 pitches

Ivan says:

Hey Mike A, as a Jet Fan, what are ya expectation for the Jets season and will they make the playoffs.

Mike A. says:

Call me Mike, not need for the A. I expect better than 4-12. Is 8-8 realistic? I’d be content with that.

D.B. says:

yeah i agree favres not THAT good and they have to face the patriots twice

Ivan says:

Iight Mike, thanx for saying that cuz I was getting tired putting down the A.

I think the Jets will be okay, maybe 9-7 or 10-6.

Jamal G. says:

With that schedule, 11-5 is not out of the question. Yeah, I’m serious.

Ivan says:

maybe but 10-6 sounds more reasonable.

Jamal G. says:

Actually, that’s the exact record I came up with. I was going over their schedule and was like “Dude, this team can honestly go 11-5, like no bullshit”. I never go with my most optimistic of predictions of records. So 10-6 is my pick as well.

Mike A. says:

In all seriousness, Favre’s got to be worth at least 2 wins over Pennington.

Ready for my bold NFL prediction? Dustin Keller will be the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Ivan says:

Man everybody in jet camp has hyped him up like crazy.

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Ivan says:

I like their defense and like the o-line alot especially with the addition with Fanaca. I don’t love their recieving team and Thomas Jones is solid but not great.

Nevertheless, when your O and D line are good, usually you have good seasons.

A.D. says:

see what Gholston brings, of hes the real d, that D could put some real nice pressure

Nady Nation says:

Seems like a good night to get a count for the RAB fantasy league, eh?

Mike A. says:

The official sign-up thread is going up tomorrow at 4pm. Gotta give everyone a chance.

Nady Nation says:

Awesome, didn’t mean to be pushy. I’m just getting psyched for football season

A.D. says:

Who are the americans throwing against Cuba in baseball tomorrow?

Mike A. says:

Stephen Strasburg. They held him back and threw Cahill in the last prelims game.

A.D. says:

Ivan says:

I tell ya the NFL team to watch out for this year is the Bills.

Ivan says:

Hughes is pitching tomorrow, I,ve heard from Jennings he’s probably pitching on sat.

A.D. says:

doesn’t that conflict?

Mike A. says:

Hughes is pitching tomorrow. At least that’s what Jennings says.

Reggie C. says:

I’m pretty sure a farm hand squad that throws out McAllister, Phil Coke, Melancon, and Betances as closer could shut out this Yankee squad. What a disgrace in Toronto tonight!!

Nickel says:

Has Venditte given up anything all August? Any chance I’ll be able to watch him pitch in Trenton in the next year or two?

Mike A. says:

I think that best case, he’ll get to Trenton in 2010. They’re not going to be too aggressive with him.

Jamal G. says:

Golf is not a sport, but even EA Sports can make you want to buy a golf video game:

http://www.pastapadre.com/3175.....#more-3175

Mike A. says:

It’s not a glitch, he’s just that good.

Brilliant.

Ivan says:

I use to think Golf wasn’t a sport but really when you watch it alot, I gotta put it in the sport section.

Joe says:

Kei Igawa, no walks and 8 k’s in 5 innings, I’d like to think he figured something out, though it looks like he gave up hits rather than walk guys.
Jamal, I couldn’t get into Lupe Fiasco, too polished, need something a bit more raw, so I got a Bad Brains album instead. Thanks for the heads up though

Ivan says:
Joe says:

I’m talking Def Jux kind of stuff

Ivan says:

By the Doctor’s Advocate by The Game.

Mike A. says:

Man, I haven’t listened to Bad Brains in years, probably since high school. There’s absolutely no good music coming out these days. I’ve been cycling between old school Pennywise, Killswitch Engage and The Casualties for a good 3 months now. It’s sad.

Jamal G. says:

Dude, check out Paramore and Cobra Starship. I’m telling you.

Mashmore says:

Mashmore approves of Paramore.

Jamal G. says:

Avenged Sevenfold and Alexisonfire are some good metal bands as well.

Geno says:

Never The Sunshine!

Joe says:

There is ton’s of good shit coming out right now. That punk is dead stuff is bullshit. I don’t know if you have ever checked out Dillinger Four, but they are absolutely amazing. Black SS from syracuse, Marked Men from Denton, and the best band I have heard in years Ceremony have the most amazing mix of Hardcore, Metal, and Thrash. I reccomend you pick up “Violence, Violence” by Ceremony

Jamal G. says:

Check out The Cool Kids. They bring an ol’ skool flavor, I’m a big fan. “Black Mags” was my ringtone when I had the iPhone for a long ass time.

A.D. says:

Chance any of the A ball guys get moved up for the higher minor league playoffs?

Mike A. says:

Maybe. If the Yanks call up Melky and Christian on Sept 1st, I can see Ajax going up to AAA for the playoffs. Similar situation with Suttle. Montero and Romine, eh, I doubt it.

A.D. says:

Zmac or Garcia up to AA for a start? Though I guess Trenton has Jones, Hacker, Kontos for the playoffs

E-ROC says:

Mike, what’s your opinion of Jordan Schafer?

Mike A. says:

Eh, not sure at this point. Don;t like the PED suspension obviously, and it’s worth noting that his BA and SLG are down 50 points from last year. I like Heyward and Gorkys betters (Heyward much better).

E-ROC says:

His numbers are a bit down this year, but he has been ridiculous in the month of August, so maybe his body is getting used to be clean of PEDs.

Ivan says:

Yo if any you guys watch Family Guy, this part is just plain funny with Thomas Edison.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzITanQIPUw

I can’t stop laughing.

Mike A. says:

What’s that? I can’t hear you over my central heat.

Ivan says:

Family Guy at it’s best. To me one of the best parts in the history of Family Guy was when the Kool-Aid man came out of nowhere. I was dying laughing. Just creative.

Jamal G. says:

Oh yeah, I remember that.

My two favorite moments are the “Pea…tear…Griffin” and the “Can’t Touch This” song.

Sal says:

Eduardo Sosa continues to be AWOL’d from the DSL2 team.
