Can we play the O’s all year?

    PLease pretty please?

    • Thomas

      Brian Roberts would enjoy that.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    First pitch.

  • pat

    oh FUCK YOU albie.

  • handtius

    fucking balls.

  • whozat

    Hey, great job Albie.

  • handtius

I like albie, but he’s got to stop with those first pitch cookies.

  • RunnerS122

And now he’ll be gun shy and won’t throw strikes

  • pat

Swisher is just out there to amuse himself.

    • handtius

He sure does make himself laugh…but I laugh too.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

At first I wasn’t used to it, but now I love the idea that he brings a more loose attitude to this team. Its really hard not to like Swish, he’s such an upbeat guy.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

What is it with the Yankees and insane air time?

    • handtius

They’re all on frequent flier cards.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Someone threw a PERFECT game against Trenton today?

  • Matt-Pitt

Ok offense… Tack on another 15 runs or so.

  • Drew

What’s with the shifts we’ve seen on Teix? I thought he was good at hitting to all fields.

    • Andy In Sunny Daytona

He is. But the problem is that he’s a pull hitter from both sides of the plate

  • Andy In Sunny Daytona

    Brackman is dealing tonight.

    • DreDog

        How about NostraDrewmus?

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

      Nicely done.

  • Matt-Pitt

Well, good thing. A-Rod has smashed the ball his last two at bats, just right at people. Looks like his timing might be coming around.

    GO GO GODZILLA!

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Matsui is teh suxor…
    Wait…

    • Accent Shallow

Both Matsui and Cano look like they have no business in the majors when they’re slumping.

Thank goodness for hot streaks! (And that no one is as bad as they look when they’re slumping)

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Yep, nicely said.

      • Zack

What player looks GOOD when they’re in a slump?

        • Drew

No one looks “good.” But guys that work walks and don’t look silly swinging at balls don’t look horrible.

        • Accent Shallow

Clearly, but both Matsui and Cano look especially awful.

    • Drew

I don’t think anyone thinks he’s teh suxor. He’s no Cashman that’s for sure.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Heh Lol. Should have /Lohud at the end.

seriously, he took a liner off the knee.

      • hawkins44

        did it look bad?

        • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Not terrible. He pitched the next two batters and was in obvious discomfort, but it was not something where you thought he would be out a while.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Girardi didn’t mind him stabbing his pitcher, but when he ‘fist pumped’ after Joba fell to the ground, that really ticked him off.

        • handtius

Everything that’s come after Seinfeld has been a ripoff of Seinfeld.

      • JobaWockeeZ

It’s not untrue. Public speaking is the most feared thing. My public speaking class had a couple of periods pointing that out.

    • Thomas

I’ve heard the stat before. It is in an episode of Seinfeld. “People would rather be in the coffin than giving the eulogy.”

  • Matt-Pitt

Didn’t like that pitch selection. Just blew 2 inside fastballs by him and throw a slider with his bat speed pretty much perfectly timed for it. All good, get outta the inning, Albie.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Albie has been struggling even though he didn’t give up many runs recently. Seriously I really want Melancon and Robertson up here. Or at least some other bullpen arm from anywhere else that’s decent.

  • perplezxed

why would michael kay rip that directly from seinfeld and actually try to get away with not admitting thats where it was from?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Because it is an actually true stat and he may have not heard it from Seinfeld.

  • Steve H

Did anyone else see where Steve Phillips said he’d take McClouth over Beltran? Guess there’s a reason he hasn’t gotten another job in baseball. And no, ESPN doesn’t count for a job in baseball.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      ESPN and Foxsports don’t count.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

What in the fuck was his justification for that? Was it opposite day?

      • Steve H
        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Well, he is right about one thing. Carlos Beltran is not a $17MM player. The last three seasons, FanGraphs has him valued at $25.8MM (’06), $20.1MM (’07), $30.1MM (’08).

          • Steve H

But that didn’t help his teams win. You can’t put a $ value on grit.

            • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Nope. He has never won anything ever.

              • Steve H

In 22 career playoff games he’s hit .366/.485/.817 with 11 hr’s, 8 steals(0 cs) and played legitimate GG defense. So what Phillips is saying is that Beltran does all of the HUGE things, but not the little things to win those games. What an absolute clown.

                • Accent Shallow

Fair or not, Beltran is going to be defined in the eyes of guys like Phillips for striking out looking to end the 2006 NLCS.

If he grounds out to second, or lines out to left, I bet we’re not having this conversation.

                • Steve H

Yeah, if only Wainwright had thrown an absolute filthy curve it would help Beltran’s case, but instead Beltran watched an absolute hanger go by. Oh wait, not exactly how it happened was it. That at-bat was the epitome of the old adage that good pitching beats good hitting. Beltran had no chance.

    • Accent Shallow

He might just be that dumb, but one of the problems with being a talking head is that he’s paid to stir up controversy.

    • pat

Related note- ESPN initally wanted Matt Millen for the vacant MNF spot.

Umm these guys were TERRIBLE at their jobs, MORE FACETIME!!

  • yankees=warriors

Man, Albie suck as much as Veras…

  • Drew

So who’s in next inning? Edwar or Tomko is my guess.

    • handtius

      Edwar does not exist.

      • Drew

Ohhh I forgot. Guess it’s Tomko.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Lol I was thinking Edwar too. In all seriousness I’d rather have Edwar than Albie but that’s just me.

      • handtius

I like Albie. I think he will be very good. He needs to come around though. He’s had periods where he is lockdown, unhittable. Over the winter didn’t he not give up a run in the Mexican league. Like 30inning or something like that?

        • Steve H

          This ain’t the Mexican League.

          • handtius

ummm, really? I thought it was. What channel have I been watching?

Oh man, I haven’t been able to comment around here for a week or two. Finals prep sucks, and exams don’t even start till the first of June!

I was sifting through some of the comments and encountered some serious hatred for Albie. I myself don’t think he’s good, but it was awfully nice of him and Ramiro Pena to come to my school and talk to our Lower and Middle Schools in an assembly honoring a kid in the grade who died of brain cancer, which I think Kay mentioned. That gesture really changed my opinion of him and has made me root for him to do particularly well.

    • A.D.

And I just figured you didn’t want to show name around here with your so far poor showing in fantasy baseball.

In all seriousness I want Alby to well too, but he’s just not pitching very well right now.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Did you see the woman with breast cancer from last night’s game? Amazing, she had such an upbeat attitude even though she’s obviously going through some serious chemo. She threw out the first pitch, brough out the lineup card and even asked Jeter for HIS PHONE NUMBER when she met him, saying she didn’t know if she’d ever get another chance to. Great lady.

  • A.D.

Its not good when I want to see Veras in the game over who is currently pitching.

    Ugh. Come on Albie.

  • handtius

ok, I take it back. Albie a go go.

This is like every Yankee fans’ worst nightmare right here. Just get us to Bruney and Mo with a lead.

  • Joe from Long Island

Pablo – that points out to us fans that these guys are flesh and blood, and not robots. Yeah, we get disappointed in their lack of performance sometimes; what fan doesn’t. But that doesn’t mean we should hate somebody, who is probably trying harder than we know, after all, it’s his career.

And as I write this, Albie has just given up a dinger to Markakis. I wish he could pitch better, him and Jose Veras, but they obviously can’t get it done, and it’s driving me crazy.

    Doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy.

considering the non-mo bullpen had to pitch 7.2 innings tonight, they did okay

  • Drew

Okay, one more inning out Veras.

    /Joe G’d

    • Capital T

Why doesn’t Joe give Tomko a chance. He has to be better than Albi and Veras. At least give him a shot to see how he does in 1 – 2 inning stints

  • Accent Shallow

Gameday corrected itself: from “In play, no out” to “In play, out(s)” on Roberts. It’d be pretty difficult to have “In play, no out” with men on second and third.

  • A.D.

I still don’t get why the O’s didn’t trade Sherill when his stock was high last year.

    • Capital T

      Because they are the O’s

  • dkidd

if tom sizemore and lance bass had a child, it would look like cervelli

    • Thomas

      So random, but so funny.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Would anyone else have no problem letting Bruney pick up the save tonight?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Well yeah. I’d rather save Mo.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Well it’s not happening.

    • Drew

He hasn’t been up in the pen. Mo money time.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

My point is Bruney should be in to get the save tonight. I’d much rather save Mo for the Phillies.

        • Drew

Word, I’m not too worried about saving him. Let’s get the win tonight, worry about tomorrow tomorrow. Hopefully we won’t need him.

          • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Yeah, hopefully Bombs Away Brett shows up tomorrow.

    • Accent Shallow

      Even if it’s Jones-Markakis-Huff, I don’t think Mariano is necessary with a three-run lead.

Of course, Girardi is gonna do this by the book.

  • Dorian

    Andrew Brackman’s line for tonight: 8IP 1ER 5H 1BB 6K GO/FO 10-6

    • A.D.

      Not too shabby.

    • Capital T

Looks like his control is starting to come around

    • V

      Nice.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Very nice. Love the 1 BB.

  • Nate

Just me, or did Sherill just make Jeter look like he had no idea how to swing a bat?

  • Drew

Scranton blew up the Pawsux tonight.

  • handtius

Good nite all…movie time with the misses. This games over.

    • V

d00d, you have to watch Mo finish it out before you leave.

  • dkidd

i love having a first baseman

  • Joe from Long Island

Makes you long for the Giambino, no?

  • Accent Shallow

    1 pitch, 1 out. <3Mo<3

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Sterling singing Sinatra . . . introduced by Russ Salzberg.

Think I’ll head to bed early.

  • Drew

5 pitches thus far. C’mon Mo!

  • JobaWockeeZ

Because the Yankees know the O’s might have a 100 loss season. No reason to hit a small fry like Huff.

  • Drew

Alf is the player of the game today.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    This one’s for the Pen.

  • JeffG

What is up with this Sterling Sinatra thing – you think he is going to announce his retirement?

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Yes, and like Sinatra he’ll unretire two weeks later.

      • JeffG

Well he won’t be singing don’t cry Joe…

Whoever guesses the song is the ultimate champ.

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Let her go, let her go.

I liked the Nelson Riddle years, myself.

  • Accent Shallow

    Yay Mo! Yay win!

  • Drew

9 in a row! Woohoo!! Time to show the NL who’s the shit.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Mo pisses class.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Sox are slapping around the Jays again. Guess the bloom is coming off that rose.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Yep. I never thought of them as a contender unless they bested other AL rivals excluding the O’s.

  • JobaWockeeZ

“And you have to give a lot of credit to the bullpen Aceves and Mo.
    Fixed.

    • Drew

I know right? Albie did bad, Veras was Veras minus the total implosion.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Albie gave up 4 runs right? And Veras was Veras but as you said without the runs I think. They just got through the innings but could have been more efficient. I’ll take the win and hope for Melancon/Robertson owning if/when they get called up.

        • Drew

Yepp 4 runs for Albie. Veras gave up two hits in 1.2 innings, it’s amazing what happens when you don’t walk people.

          • JobaWockeeZ

Yep. But of course he was into really bad counts and he got lucky on a couple of well hit balls. Strikes are amazing.

  • Alex…for lack of a better name

Was that last pitch a 2-seamer by Mo?? first one all year

  • yankees=warriors

Nice win, but something needs to be done about Albie and Veras.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Their names are Dave Robertson and Mark Melancon.

  • Drew

Myers with 12 jacks on the year. Then he came to YS3.

  • Quikksand

    Yankees win! The-e-e-e-e Yankees win!

  • Drew

How is Robbie the player of the game? If it wasn’t for Alf this game would have been over early. Can’t get no respect.

  • stuart

I do not get the game, any reason no bruney in the 8th?

    thanks…

    • JobaWockeeZ

No idea. Save him for the Phillies?
      That’s all I got.

  • Drew

Okay, I don’t know how they go about predicting this.
    http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/features/cy
But, how the hell is Matt Fu**ing Palmer ahead of Jober?

    • Accent Shallow

The Cy Young predictor is based on the characteristics of the pitchers who have won it in the past, not on who is most deserving of the award.

Clearly, it’s biased towards: guys who have a lot of wins, but few losses (Palmer is 5-0, Joba is 2-1), as well as dominant closers. Doesn’t mean much of anything.

    • Zack

Santana is 3rd so when you see that you can just click that little X in the top right corner.

  • Charlie

It was pretty idiotic how Huff kept getting boos. Makin a big deal outta nothing

    • Drew

Since when is booing someone making a “big deal?” The fans don’t like him for what he did so they boo. No biggie.

    • GoTerpsGo

Perhaps. IMO it was idiotic for Huff to fist pump considering:
      1) His team sucks
      2) They lost that game
      3) His team sucks

      • Zack

#2 – I believe they were winning at the time

        • DaveinMD

Yeah, but he knew they would like lose since he plays for the Orioles.

    • LiveFromNewYork

People in NY like to boo. And beep. And boo some more. And then beep again.
