Bruney, Marte & Nady closer to returning

By Mike Axisa

Marc Carig has updates on some injured Yanks: Brian Bruney threw 20 pitches yesterday and felt no pain in his elbow (so he says). He thinks he’s a week and a half, or possible less away. Damaso Marte threw 25 pitches from a mound in Tampa and has started to throw some breaking balls, but there is no timetable for his return. Xavier Nady played catch at 75 feet and played in another Extended Spring Training game, but like Marte there is no timetable for his return. Mo knows the Yanks could use all three now.

Can’t wait for Bruney to come back. I hope he doesn’t get effing injured AGAIN. We need him.

Drew says:

Bruney,
Don’t pretend your okay then go DL style again.
kthxbye

Charlie says:

a healthy bruney and an effective marte would be awesome. Huge bullpen upgrade if those guys get better. And the X man would actually give us a guy off the bench that can hit the ball.

whozat says:

Not sure why people seem to be so hung up on having a bench bat with a big stick. In the primary lineup, there’s not really anyone you’d pinch hit for…and in any other lineup, there’s already a good bat on the bench because someone like Matsui or Posada is sitting down.

AndrewYF says:

I can’t think of too many situations where a second pinch-hitter would be needed.

Nady’s value is platooning with Matsui, so we don’t have to see crap like Melky in RF and Gardner in CF while Swisher DHs against tough lefties.

Drew says:

“crap like Melky”

Your post is crap I do not wish to see
Melky has been very good this year so far, no need to call him names.

Who is this Marte you speak of?

AndrewYF says:

He’s the mythical second lefty the Yankees planned to have in their bullpen. He throws 93 and has a long history of success in the majors.

Spaceman.Spiff says:

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe Marte is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

The Carl Pavano of relievers

teixeira on a pace to drive in 155 runs

Now if Bruney could only figure out how to swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon, we’d be all set.
