Game 104: In which we discuss how much I hate FOX games

As if it wasn’t bad enough that the Yankees have already lost the first two games of the series in a fashion best described as “ugly,” today’s game will be broadcast on FOX! I can hear all the “Ozzie’s team plays the game the right way,” and the “the Yankees offense has been propped up by that little league ballpark,” and the “CC Sabathia has not been as good as expected” references now. It’s always Trash the Yankees Day whenever it’s a nationally televised game, and for whatever reason they always seem to lose.

Bah, mini-rant over. Anyway, here’s the strange lineup for this afternoon. Try to enjoy the game between FOX’s holier than thou rants.

Jeter, SS
Swisher, RF
Teixeira, DH
A-Rod, 3B
Posada, C
Cano, 2B
Melky, CF
Hairston, LF
Ransom, 1B – really? Hinske can play first, you know

And on the mound, Allen Burnett.

Note: If the Yankees lose, blame Joe. I believe the team’s record when I write the Game Thread this year is 0-157.

  1. putt says:

Let’s go CC! We need a split here.

  2. Girardi announced the upcoming rotation:

    TOR: Pettitte/Mitre

    BOS: Joba, AJ, CC, Pettitte

  3. GG says:

I’m with you Mike, I cannot stand games on FOX

  4. TJ says:

    Why is ransom playing first?

  5. Bob Stone says:

Ridiculous line-up today. What is Girardi thinking?

  6. Billy says:

i, for one, am eager to see the new acquistion. im predicting 1-4 with an RBI and a diving play in LF

  7. Salty Buggah says:

So the guy in the last thread was saying that we don’t have a high AVG as a team so we won’t win the World series. I asked what our AVG should be but I havent gotten a reply yet. I was hoping for an absurd answer like anything between .285 to .300 or something.

I wanted to say the Philles won the WS despite having the 23rd AVG (.255) in the Majors last year. We have the 2nd best (.276). Some people are just funny…and don’t know what they’re talking about.

  8. Note: If the Yankees lose, blame Joe. I believe the team’s record when I write the Game Thread this year is 0-157.

Oh, so it’s your fault, huh? You jerkface.

  9. Dela G says:

    I hate FOX so much

i am going to listen to john sterling and but the tv on mute

  10. Salty Buggah says:

I hate FOX games too, especially when they aren’t showing it here!!! Who cares about the Dodgers and Braves?!!!

  11. Tank the Frank says:

Nothing like trotting out Hairston and Ransom in the same lineup in the middle of a losing streak. Way to put your thinking cap on Joe.

    • Zach says:

Yeah, it’s almost like we have a lineup similar to every other team in the game.

      • Tank the Frank says:

Excellent point. No sense in using the advantages you have to put your team in a position to win a much-needed ball game. After all, that’s not what managers are for.

Gotta sit those lefties vs a lefty. It’s in the bible.

        • Zach says:

No, it’s about resting your DH with two bad knees and your LF who’s always beat up. If they lose today are you really going to blame Ransom/Hariston?

          • Tank the Frank says:

            No. I’ll blame Joe Girardi.

            • Zach says:

He gets blamed for every loss regardless

              • Evan says:

Every win = the greatness of the players.

Every loss = Joe Girardi’s little league managerial style.

            • You know, every time Cody Ransom gets a start, everyone bitches and moans about how awful it is, and yet every time Cody Ransom gets a start he produces well and makes numerous good plays every game.

He’s made appearances in 5 games since the ASB and is batting .429/.556/.857 in the 9 post ASB plate appearances.

              I’m just saying.

              • Tank the Frank says:

Aren’t you the one who rants about small sample sizes?

I don’t mind Ransom. I don’t want to see him play more than once a week…but that’s me. I’m not in love with Ransom AND Hairston in the same game, that I personally believe to be an important one. That’s all. The Yankees have not looked good and I would like to see their A lineup out their to try and get a win to salvage the series and get back on the right track.

I understand the need to rest players. But I don’t think this game is the most expedient time. Matsui has a .913 OPS vs lefties this season. I don’t think it would kill him to be in the lineup today either.

  12. putt says:

You know what sucks? Living in California, having the Dodgers on the Fox game instead, and MLB Extra Innings not carrying the Yanks game.

Looks like it’s yard-work for me instead of drinking High Lifes all afternoon long…

    • Bob Stone says:

That sucks. I feel for you. I experienced the same problem when I lived in Boston. Extra Innings NEVER carried 4pm (EDT) ames.

      • putt says:

Sure the weather’s better out here, but I really miss living in NYC & CT. I never missed games then. Ah, those were the days…

And I feel for you, having to live in Boston. Beautiful city, lots of history, even more aholes. It’s a shame.

        • Billy says:

          live in da bronx

          • putt says:

I used to live on 139th & Riverside in Harlem. It was a trip to see so many Red Sox hats everywhere. It was in the heyday of the Pedro/Manny/Papi days…you gotta respect national pride, right?

    • Tank the Frank says:

Is it High Lifes or High Lives? Anyway that stuff tastes like death.

      • Bob Stone says:

If you have more than one Toyota Prius do you have several Pria or multiple Priuses?

      • putt says:

Aww, come on man…It’s the champagne of beers. It’s $8 a 12 pack. And ice cold, it’s delicious!

I just bought a house, and it’s about as high as my lifestyle will get for a bit. My days of being a beer snob are put on hold for a while!

        • Tank the Frank says:

Well introduce yourself to some Keystone or something! You don’t have to be a snob to stay away from the High Life, you just have to dislike vomiting.

Pabst (SP?) Blue Ribbon is also a nice alternative.

          • putt says:

Unfortunately I can’t find Pabst in the Bay Area, and I haven’t drank Keystone since my senior year in college (’01). We used to haul that stuff in by the pallet load for beer pong and beer die tournaments on the weekends.

            /semi-phratlife rant

  13. Salty Buggah says:

Hey Mike, for some reason when I refresh the page, every comment is still being shown as new for me.

    • Mike Axisa says:

It’s working for me, but that happens every so often for no apparently reason. Give it a while and it’ll fix itself, but it might not happen until a spillover is posted.

  14. Rick says:

Why is ransom at 1b? Ridiculous

  15. Billy says:

i live in da bronx so i have no problems getting yankees games

  16. Goose says:

Last game on FOX, Eric Karros was licking the boots of Sciosia and how the Angels play the best fundamental baseball in the game. Meanwhile, downplaying the Yanks strengths. His cheerleading for the Angels was too much to take…

  17. In my view, as good as the Yankees were in the first half of this game, that’s how as bad they’ve been now.

    /Tim McCarver Family Guy’d

  18. Sweet Dick Willie says:

Save basell and get a salary cap so the other two thirds of the fans, teams and cities can enjoy is too. Spankees need to stop buying wins, we are not respected, I like dick too like Goose.

  19. Goose says:

    Sweet Dick:

You and your team have one thing in common: sore losers and nobodys

  20. Salty Buggah says:

Anyone see the Webgems from last night? They basically admit they are biased to the Red Sox.

    • GG says:

I love it when that stuff happens, I forget the specifics of it, but Showalter called out Berthiume hard the other week when he criticized something NYY, Showalter was just like “Oh that never happens up in Boston does it?” or something to that effect, he had no idea how to respond, it was awesome

    • Mike Pop says:

Heh, Buck called him out on it.

    • putt says:

Buck got 2 digs in there, that was great!

  21. Mike Pop says:

Don’t forget the knob jobs on Theo today. Timmy M saying how the V-Mart trade puts the Red Sox far and away the best in the AL East and Smoltz will get it back on track.

  22. Goose says:

Yankees blow and the Red Sox are our daddys now, since 2000, spend more than on medical needs of the nation, all of you silly yuppies, get a life and stop pressing buttons for a thrill. Save Americas game, make it fair for all.

  23. acb says:

i can just picture having bases loaded no out with melky/hairston/ransom coming to bat ending the inning without driving a run in.

  24. Salty Buggah says:

Did Fox just say this: “Hey kids why don’t you get A-Rod to just sign a blank check.”

  25. E-ROC says:

That ‘Get To Know’ segment with Mark Teixeira was funny.

  26. Goose says:

You cant fake Goose…..he made your Red Sux his pussies in 78

  27. Dela G says:

anyone hear that fox reporter guy at the beginning when showing kids asking for a-rod’s autograph?

“kids, if you see alex rodriguez and want his autograph, give him a blank check, not a baseball, trick him into giving you his money”

  28. acb says:

eric: joe what the fuck why are you benching me i hit a 2 run bomb last night

joe: hey eric i know you hit a homerun everygame you play in but i really like cody even though hes batting .180 so im gonna bench you today

eric: damn dude if i knew this i would have stayed in pittsburg

    • I know it’s too hard for you to comprehend that Hinske is a lefty and Ransom is a righty. And that Danks is a lefty. But could you at least spell the name of a major city right during you Batshit Insane* post?

      * h/t tsjc

  29. Dela G says:

    thank god no john buck

  30. putt says:

YES Channel confirms the worst, Joba Chamberlain in an accident at his home today, may have a broken ankle, hear he was fixing his roof when it happened, oh boy.

  31. Edinson Volquez needs surgery on his elbow.

Am I alone in thinking Dusty Baker should be barred from contact with any pitcher under the age of 30? And only supervised visits with those above that age?

  32. Tank the Frank says:

GOOSE!! Is that you!! Oh, I thought you went and cracked your damn skull open! GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!

  33. Riddering says:

    I love broadway too, Tex.

  34. Goose says:

NEWSFLASH: NESN’s Tom Caron had his head so far up Youk’s ass it took 8 hours of surgery to separate the two. Youk out for the year. Tom Caron has now put his head up “HOF” Jim Rice’s ass…Rice says he likes it, dont remove

  35. Mike Pop says:

Put it in the books. Yanks lose.

  36. Drew says:

How many times do you see Jeter leadoff swinging at the first pitch? Was that a serious question? God Mccarver’s an idiot.

  37. Claudell Washington's 1988 Stats says:

Tim McCarver on FOX and/or Joe Morgan on ESPN might be tossing more anti-Yankee hatred these days since the revelation that their favorite player tested positive for a “performance enhancer”.

  38. Dela G says:

    wow swisha looked fooled

  39. What the fuck, more bad baserunning?

  40. Dela G says:

  41. Zach says:

    wow tex is slow

  42. Mike Pop says:

    Damn Teix.

  43. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Way to make him work guys!

  44. E-ROC says:

The field has not been too kind to Yanks.

  45. Bob Stone says:

ARod last night – now Tex. These guys have to play smarter!

  46. Salty Buggah says:

    AJ better be good today…

  47. Mike Pop says:

    Drink that A.J. Kool-Aid baby!

    Here we go.

  48. acb says:

has anyone every seen nick swisher hit a changeup?

  49. Dela G says:

lol when did suzyn woldman start doing play by play

  50. Dela G says:

    well thats an inauspicious start

  51. Fucker, this game isn’t simulcast in Spanish…

  52. Dela G says:

welcome to the big leagues gordon beckham

  53. Dela G says:

    good lord AJ looks sick

  54. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    AJ look absolutely dirty today.

  55. acb says:

how many times a week do you think aj pierzinsky gets beatup

  56. Dela G says:

  57. Mike Axisa says:

    See? The shift works fine.

  58. Defense wins championships mofos

  59. Mike Pop says:

    Cano’s lazy.

  60. JMK says:

Robbie made that look easy. He’s so lazy.

  61. Bob Stone says:

    Perfect positioning of Cano.

  62. Drew says:

Do those shifts effect the UZR ratings?

  63. Salty Buggah says:

Time for offense to do its magic.

  64. Dela G says:

Haha this time Alex gets to second base correctly

  65. Mike Axisa says:

Is Danks pitching exclusively from the stretch, or am I just an idiot?

  66. Goose says:

The announcers seem like they want to cry after Arod got to second on the error

  67. Riddering says:

Mmmm, I love ineffective opposing defense.

  68. Salty Buggah says:

Time to hit with RISP guys!

A-rod is so overdue for a HR

  69. Dela G says:

oh well, get em next time jorge

  70. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Thank god they made that error huh? That would have been a DP.

  71. Dela G says:

cmon cano, lets get em home

  72. Mike Pop says:

    Les go Cano.

  73. You know, I would sell things that should remain unsold for some RISP magic.

  74. acb says:

it appears we havent learned anything from last night

  75. Dela G says:

    damn struck him out

  76. Mike Pop says:

  77. Goose says:

MCarver is in a better mood after Canos SO

  78. Dela G says:

    damn it

what a waste of the Alex “double”

  79. Salty Buggah says:

    well that sucked a lot

  80. acb says:

well we cant ask melky to do it i mean cmon its not the 7th inning or later

  81. Bob Stone says:

Are we already at 0-3 with RISP?

  82. Tank the Frank says:

I’ll tell ya. The Yankees are just unlucky with RISP. That’s all it is. Luck.

And it’s a small sample size. Only the better part of two seasons.

  83. Mike Pop says:

  84. I’m going to go ahead and call bullshit on that little McCarver/Buck theory about people not knowing Frank Thomas was available as a free agent. Just because Tim McCarver is a moron who apparently can’t be bothered to closely follow the sport on which he holds himself out as an expert doesn’t mean other people are morons, too.

  85. Dela G says:

Haha swish makes things so hard

  86. Bob Stone says:

AJ has been missing Posada’s target quite often.

  87. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    WTF did Swish just do?

  88. Dela G says:

    great range there Alex.. haha

  89. Salty Buggah says:

Man, I cant wait until we win again (hopefully today). A lot of negativity around here.

  90. Dela G says:

    Kenny Williams is ripped!

  91. Evan says:

    Their A.J. is so punchable.

  92. Mike Pop says:

Was that a good package for PEavy?

  93. Mike Axisa says:

Ok, here’s a question. If you were going to sign one, who would it be, Bonds or Frank Thomas?

  94. Dela G says:

damn, cmon AJ, lets induce a DP or K this rookie Getz

  95. Salty Buggah says:

Fuckin Quentin had to get hot against us!

Cmon AJ, need a DP ball here

  96. Bob Stone says:

Neither would be my first choice. Thomas second because I couldn’t stand the extra bullshit that comes with Bonds.

  97. Come on AJ, please pitch well. Please.

  98. Mike Axisa says:

C’mon AJ. Dinky little hits. Overpower these guys.

  99. Salty Buggah says:

Fuck! Cmon AJ. You know our offense is kinda in a funk with RISP

  100. Mike Ox says:

Can someone tell the Yanks that these are the White Sox and not the Red Sox.

  101. Goose says:

If McCarver ran the world, all of our problems would be solved…

  102. Salty Buggah says:

FUCK YOU UMP! How was that a ball!

  103. Dela G says:

AJs fastball isnt at 95-96 today

    his curve looks filthy though

  104. Evan says:

One pitch and you’re out of this without a run scored against.

  105. acb says:

    am i watching yankees encore?

  106. Dela G says:

damn, wouldnt the sun help AJ?

those people can’t see that fastball moving like a snake

  107. Dela G says:

How was that not a swing?

  108. Bob Stone says:

    AJ’s control is off today.

    • Salty Buggah says:

No it isnt. 23 strikes 12 balls. And on that walk 2 ball COMPLETELY in the strike zone were called balls.

  109. Dela G says:

    holy cow

    how was that a ball

  110. Zack says:

So there’s no low strike today huh?

  111. Salty Buggah says:

WTF Fletcher! That was a fuckin strike too!

  112. Mike Pop says:

    Damn, horrible.

It’s alright though. The curse of the fox game.

  113. acb says:

im pretty sure barack obama has some kind of influence on these umpires

  114. sam says:

AJ getting squeezed by the ump
according to gameday 2 of those balls were in the strike zone

  115. Riddering says:

    Bullshit on that strike zone.

  116. Luis Polonia says:

The game is blacked out here but Gameday had two of the balls thrown to Nix as strikes. Excellent.

  117. Mike Axisa says:

    Where was that pitch?

  118. Salty Buggah says:

You know, Umps have screwed us over so many times this year, it’s not even funny.

  119. Dela G says:

    oh lord

  120. Mike Axisa says:

Way to keep the runner at second Swish.

  121. JMK says:

Even though some of those pitches are strikes, we can’t dispute that AJ’s control is not on today.

  122. cjc says:

we can’t stop this lineup this is goddamn ridiculous fuck this series is frustrating

  123. Manimal says:

    missing the glove

  124. Mike Pop says:

  125. Goose says:

At least McCarver is in a better mood

  126. J Squared says:

Is it that all umpires screw us… or we just get stuck with the umpires that screw us?

  127. Tank the Frank says:

Boy those White Sox are lucky with RISP.

    Because that’s all it is…luck.

  128. Evan says:

    I hate FOX.

  129. Riddering says:

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.

  130. BigBlueAL says:

Yankees might not even be in 1st place by the time they face the Red Sox.

  131. Manimal says:

I cant even watch this team anymore. Way too inconsistant. Ill watch them when they are on one of those winning streaks

  132. I am really really fucking pissed off right now.

  133. Mike Ox says:

Wow, getting horse whipped on national TV yet again.

  134. Dela G says:

    jesus save us

  135. Salty Buggah says:

WOW! this series is pissing me off

  136. Bob Stone says:

Batting practice for the ChiSox. Damn.

  137. Mike Axisa says:

Just leave him the fuck in and save the bullpen.

  138. BigBlueAL says:

Has there ever been a team this frustrating where they are playing great baseball then all of a sudden play 3 games in a row like this series, or in Anaheim, or in Boston like these Yankees have done this season????

  139. cjc says:

has there been a game on fox we haven’t looked over mtched shit this is brutal

11-21 risp sure is alot of luck

  140. Dela G says:

oh my god AJ is getting squeezed

  141. Bob Stone says:

Might as well. Little to lose at this point.

  142. Have the Yankees won a single FOX game all year?

  143. Goose says:

Isnt it time for the Ozzie’s a genuis for the way he put together this line together or Williams is a master at putting the right people in the right places?

  144. Goose says:

Isnt it time for the Ozzie’s a genuis for the way he put together this line together or Williams is a master at putting the right people in the right places?

  145. Tank the Frank says:

This is why I have no problem with Sergio Mitre as the 5th starter. Because our 1-4 are going to give us 6 + innings.

At least we have a rested bullpen…

  146. Dela G says:

    thank you jesus

    we got a second out

  147. JMK says:

Anyway we can call Melvin to pitch the next 6 innings?

  148. Dela G says:

  149. Riddering says:

Did the inning really end? Am I dreaming? Pinch me!

  150. Salty Buggah says:

I cant help but think how those 2 “balls” that led a bases-loaded walk must have affected AJ’s mind negatively…

  151. charlespoet says:

Think this team forgot how to play baseball. Getting schooled by the Whitesox. Not good

  152. putt says:

I’d just like to say that it was NOT ME who posted that obnoxious fake Joba injury post. That kinda stuff is definitely not cool or funny.

Now it’d be great if the Yanks could wake up the bats and the pitching can keep ‘em at 6.
