• Brazilian Yankee

That was a nice job getting out of that with only one run allowed.

  • Accent Shallow

Agreed. Not so confident in Andy making 2-1 stand up.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

      Me neither.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    32 pitches, 9 strikes that inning. :(

  • GG

I really like Jerry Hairston Jr., that being said get Cody Ransom off the roster, plsthxbye

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

When BG is back, CR is gone.

      • GG

I can’t wait that long, and there is no reason for JoeyG to either, you don’t carry more than one light hitting utility guy, it makes no sense. Its not even like Ransom flashes the leather.

    • Zack

fucking Ransom walked Millar and Wells back to back last inning

      • Mike Pop

Ransom is the reason this team is not 10 games ahead of the Red Sox.

  • Drew

    more like Madske

  • whozat

Not for Andy, he’s not been a pitcher’s ump.

    He’s been a Halladay’s ump.

  • Salty Buggah

    Andy was getting kinda squeezed.

    • GG

I dont want to become a conspiracy theorist and start complaining about that every series, but the Chicago series was ridiculous….speaking of conspiracy theories, maybe a couple of calls came in from DC on those umps in Chicago

      • Mike Pop

        Don’t get the chip bro!!!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

What does it say that the Yanks have a line up where Hinske is the 9 hitter?

    • Mike Pop

That the Yankees offense is good.

    • baravelli

Did you hear him scream “No Way!” when he get rung up? That was pretty cool – I wonder what other soundbites could be available from that mike?

      • Mike Pop

Was watching a Mets game one time vs the Braves. David Ross clearly said “fuck me!”. Was pretty funny.

        Awesome double play there.

  • Salty Buggah

I predicted Hinske to go0-4 with 3 K’s today to my cousin…so far so good (or bad?)

  • Zack

a 1-2-3 inning was not needed there

  • Brazilian Yankee

That lucky catch by Wells really hurts. We were getting to Doc early on.

  • Salty Buggah

    Oh boy, cmon Andy

Can we get some guys who will take a few pitches.

    • http://eemack.blogspot.com Jackson

It’s a little more difficult to take pitches when the best pitcher in the league is pounding the strike zone.

      • Mike Pop

Johan got roughed up tonight a bit.

        • Mike Pop

Jeez, with these reply fails the past couple days.

  • Riddering

    Who hits a homerun tonight?

  • whozat

Andy is not getting those same calls.

  • Brazilian Yankee

It’s really hard to hit against Doc with a strikezone this big.

  • Salty Buggah

yea, that strike 3 to A-rod wasnt a strike but Halladay has gotten that call all day

    • Drew

I thought it was a strike.

      • Salty Buggah

a bit inside to me looking on gameday

  • Andy In Sunny Daytona

Mike, What do you think. David Phelps = Quality MLB Pitcher?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Possibly, most likely a reliever because he’s a two pitch guy (I think).

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona

If he were a Red Sox(ck)?

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’ll invent a new pitch to use as his third offering while simultaneously revolutionizing the game. He’d call it “the oscillator.”

      • GG

same thing/same reason on Aroldis Chapman?

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

          Not sure.

  • Riddering

Any ball that looks like it could have possibly covered the plate = strike for Halladay.

As if that beardless bastard needs any help!

    • Andy In Sunny Daytona

He’s trying to show the Yankee FO that he can pitch without the gritbeard.

      • Riddering

Hmm, that is a cunning ruse! He’s subtly attracting the attention of the Yankees while putting off Grit Sox.

  • Salty Buggah

Halladay is nasty again…we need to start getting him next time.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Jeter for MVP, ladies and gentlemen.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Jeter is amazing.

  • Mike Pop

Why isn’t David Wright hitting home runs like he used to, it can’t be all Citi Field, can it?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’s not getting anything to hit (with authority) in that AAA lineup. He’s still got a high avg and a super high OBP.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

At home: 4 HR in 222 PA.
On road: 3 HR in 232 PA.

      • Mike Pop

Well, yea. I meant more of adjusting his approach at the plate. But, ya, Mike’s point makes more sense.

We’ll see how he does next year, he’s still a heck of a player.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

I believe Pujols had more home runs in June (maybe July) than the whole Mets team combined. At least, that’s what I think I read on the Mets board. What a sad bunch of fans.

  • Riddering

Andy owes his infielders a three-course Applebee’s meal after this game. *g*

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

If you could only punch one in the face, who would it be: Pierzynski or Millar?

    • Son of Maas

Millar, then I would kick Perzynski. You said one punch.

    • JMK

      Dustin Pedroia.

      • GG

        YES

        • Johan Iz My Brohan

C’mon guys don’t you think his ugly face has had enough beating?

          • Mike Pop

Come on Phil, drop the deuce.

    • whozat

AJ. Millar is one of those guys that his teammates like, but opponents don’t. AJ is one of those guys that his teammates tolerate because he’s pretty good at baseball.

    • Hola

i would punch millar and kick pierzynski

    • http://eemack.blogspot.com Jackson

Pierzynski easy, I actually found Millar sort of amusing when he was on the Orioles. He had some funny videos they would play on the scoreboard between innings.

      • bonestock94

Why do we hate Pierzynski now? I missed most of the Sox series…

        • http://eemack.blogspot.com Jackson

It’s unrelated to the last series. He’s just a dick in general.

    • Riddering

My preferred method of violence is a kick to the face. Which I would enjoy delivering unto Pierzynski.

    • Ivan

      Pierzynski. He’s an absolute cock.

    • pollo

Millar never EVER shows up when he plays the Red Sox. Fuck him.

  • Salty Buggah

We better get some WebGems today…not that I would get angry much because usually a lot of plays get left out (especially from the Yankees) and Tacoby gets one for normal catch he makes.

  • Little Bill

Halladay has been good, but he’s not a true ace if he loses this game. Aces don’t lose. Is Andy Pettitte our true ace if he holds on for the win? Absolutely.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

This has to be sarcasm, right?

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

Clay Buccholz is an ace, he never loses a game.

I just realized, tonight, Melky AND Robbie don’t know how to run. Saw that Michael Johnson “the sprinter” has a place to teach athletes quickness and improve speed. Maybe this off season a good place to go.

    • Chef

The Mets had someone teach Reyes how to run a couple years back…

  • Salty Buggah

seriously, WTF ump? Andy isnt getting a lot of those low calls.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Alright, Phil. Clean up this mess.

  • Ivan

    Come on Pettitte, it’s Barahas.

    • whozat

Guy crushed the ball twice tonight.

That said, once you’re ahead 0-2, you want to get that out. But, let’s hope Hughes can get the illustrious Jose Bautista.

  • Salty Buggah

damnit, How do you walk Barajas after starting 0-2 with him?

    get out of this Philly

    • toad

Nothing more irritating, yet Yanks seem to fail at putting away batters on 0-2 counts all the time. Utterly stupid.

There’s that, and then there’s Juan Cruz scenario. Where the Yanks let him walk, and teams would like to sign him, but don’t like him enough to give up a draft pick for him.

    • A.D.

Yeah I don’t think you should be worrying about blocking a bench player with another bench player.

      • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

        Good point.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Hmm, I don’t see the harm in it. Was he starting in Cincy? If he was and has even a decent showing with the Yankees, he could parlay that into a starting job somewhere next year. I’d say it’s safe to offer him arbitration.

    • DreDog

I would think you have to if he stays a Type B. It’s a non guaranteed contract and another team would probably offer a similar guaranteed contract, no?

  • Hola

Nice K there (that BTW was the call Andy wasnt getting all day even though its completely in the zone)

  • pat

Unfortunatley there’s no way Millar doesn’t come through right here, I hate that cock.

    • pat

      glad I was wrong.

  • Dorian

According to Gameday, Phil has not thrown one fastball on the inside part of the plate.

  • Mike Pop

Seems like JoPo gets crossed up an awful lot.

    • Teix is the Man

No, the pitchers just don’t like him so they throw at him
      -MSM’d

  • Thomas A. Anderson

Bottom of the 8th inning in a Yankee game? After 2 hours? When they play the Red Sox we’ll be lucky if they are in the bottom of the 4th inning in 2 hours.

I HATE JORGE POSADA!!!! JUST ONE FASTBALL INSIDE…ONE

    • Mike Pop

      There ya go, boss.

    • cor shep

  • Mike Pop

Shouldn’t Neftali be in Texas’ rotation, or am I just being silly?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I think they’re gonna start him off in the ‘pen then send him to the rotation.

    • Accent Shallow

They’re doing the same thing they did with Holland — breaking him in through the ‘pen.

      • Mike Pop

        Oh, alright. Sounds better.

      • Zack

so what happened to that crap about Nolan wanting all his pitchers to throw 7-8 IP a start?

    • Hola

he should, but in AAA they have groomed him to be a reliever

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

All three strikeouts by Phil are looking, I believe.

  • Chef

Here comes the flood of, “WHY IS GIRARDI BRINGING IN MO?? HE IS THE DUMB STOOPID!!”.

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I’d say most people are alright with it, considering the tying run is at the plate.

  • pat

You can’t really argue with bringing in MO but I would have liked Girardi to show a little faith in young Phil. Rivera isn’t always gonna be around to clean up the messes.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Remember, he’s managing for his job.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

It has nothing to do with faith. He brought him into a 2 on, 2 out situation in the last inning, so Hughes knows he is trusted in that kind of spot. It has to do with Mo being better, and with Hughes tiring once he passed 25 pitches.

  • crbleakley

Girardi has been doing this way too much and it’s getting annoying.

    • Zack

using your best pitcher in a big spot?

      • Yankee1010

Was there that much of a difference between 4 and 5 outs? It’s completely arbitrary. He is going to him frequently for 4 outs. We can all pretend like he’s not 38 and that it’s impossible to abuse him, but they’re extra pitches being thrown nonetheless. Plus, it wasn’t like Hughes was pitching poorly.

    • http://eemack.blogspot.com Jackson

I know, I too get annoyed when the manager brings in the best closer in baseball to get a big out in a close game in the 8th inning.

      • V

4 out saves are going to tire him over the course of the next two months.

  • Salty Buggah

I would have left him in there but cant argue with Mo

  • Ivan

Hughes last 5 outs have been on K’s. 4 consecutive looking.

  • CT Yankee

Thanks Joe: Here we go again

  • Riddering

Posada’s being worked by his pitchers tonight.

  • A.D.

    ugh

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Shit, I thought Damon caught that. Stupid white advertisement.

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

    Fuuuuuuuck.

  • Hola

    damn it

  • Mike Pop

    Well, that blows.

  • crbleakley

Great, Hughes’ runs because he didn’t have the chance to get out of his own trouble.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Seriously? They brought their best pitcher in for the biggest spot in the game. It is the right move every time.

      • Yankee1010

But why is it that 4 outs left is the magic time?

        • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Apparently they feel that he can go more than one inning, but if you ask him to get multiple outs in multiple innings he is more likely to rack up a larger pitch count.

  • Drew

Fuck. I thought JD caught that.

  • V

    Carl Crawford catches that.

    • A.D.

Gardner in CF, Melk in RF, probably caught. Maybe even Hariston catches in LF

    • A.D.

Gardner in CF, Melk in LF, probably caught. Maybe even Hariston catches in LF

  • Chef

Before anyone goes crazy… please no 20/20 hindsight remarks…

    • crbleakley

I’m pretty sure plenty of people were questioning the move before he threw a pitch.

      • Chef

Why? Cuz Mariano can’t get Vernon Wells out?

Sure we like to watch Phil pitch. But can you seriously argue that bringing in Mariano there reduces the chances of getting Wells out and/or winning the game???

      • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Questioning the move because they wanted to see Hughes get out of the inning, not because they were predicting that Mo would allow the runs to score. Big difference.

  • BigBlueAL

Doesnt Wells hit Rivera good???? I know he has a walk-off HR off him.

    • BigBlueAL

BTW I am not questioning bringin in Mo!!

      • BigBlueAL

Yup now 6 for 17 off him.

  • A.D.

Hughes nailed with a couple of runs.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Vernon Wells is an evil man in more ways than one…

    • Mike Pop

Vernon Wells says fuck you RAB.

  • pete

isn’t vernon wells one of those douchebags who gets hits off of mo from time to time?

  • Riddering

    ASS.

  • Yankee1010

Why was it so necessary to bring Mo in? Was Hughes not doing OK? Mo is 38. He does not need to be abused. Infuriating.

    • Chef

Its only infuriating b/c Mo gave up a hit.

      • Yankee1010

No, it isn’t. It’s because you can’t keep going to the well with Mo like that. They have to see the forest for the trees. Hughes had 4 strikeouts in 1 1/3 IP. He wasn’t struggling. Those hits weren’t hit hard.

        • Yankee1010

Sorry, 3 strikeouts in in 1 IP.

        • Chef

Mo has pitched twice in the last 10 days.

He’s not a freakin’ geriatric. In my opinion (which means very little) he hasn’t pitched enough recently. When he’s getting regular work he NEVER goes 3-0 on guys like he did on Wells.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Hughes has tired in his last two outings once he exceeded 25 pitches. He also did not look great tonight- two hits, and got lucky on some missed locations on the two strikeouts.

      • Yankee1010

I’d actually say the 2 hits were kind of unlucky. And he struck out 3 in his inning of work. It’s not like he was being knocked around the yard.

The issue is not that he went to Mo in just this game – it’s that he is instinctively going to him for more than one inning seemingly pretty often. There’s no need to blow him out know if they can make sure he’s completely healthy for October.

  • Salty Buggah

    oh boy…cmon Mo

  • Accent Shallow

    Well.

Just get Rios and we’re good, Mo.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

Speaking of draft picks, I’m keeping an eye on Kevin Millwood’s innings. He’s on the DL with a minor injury, and if he gets 180IP (138 now) a 12 mil option kicks in. If not, maybe they have an interest in Andy next year, who’s a Type B and I doubt the Yanks will bring back.

  • J Squared

Mo can always get his cutter over, but posada’s calling secondary pitches as soon as Mo comes out of the pen… makes no sense.

  • Mike Pop

    Matsui is done, release him.

    What a shot!!!

  • Esteban

    Get those runs back

  • Reggie C.

    Halladay gives. B/c he sucks.

  • crbleakley

Crushing Doc tonight, I love it.

  • J Squared

    HIDEKI!!!!! HIT DECK EE!!!

  • Yankee1010

Will Halladay complain about the Rogers Centre being a bandbox? Matsui’s and Tex’s were crushed.

    • Mike Pop

      Did Halladay complain about YS3?

      • Yankee1010

He implied that some of the HRs in the game that Wang was hurt were just fly balls. He wasn’t happy about what he thought were fly balls being HRs.

        • Mike Pop

Oh, alright. Just wondering, I remember watching that game and saying the same thing to my friend. Halladay will be bitching about this.

  • Drew

    GODZILLAAAAAAAAA

Halladay needs to start earning his paycheck. He’s no ace.

    • JobaWockeeZ

He gave up runs? No true ace does that.

  • Son of Maas

That freakin ball almost broke my window here in Upstate NY

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Why wouldn’t you pull Halladay here?

    • Zack

      padding those CG stats

    • Esteban

      nobody knows

  • charlespoet

That is the third game in a row that Phillip has come in, left with RISP and his relief has failed to hold the runners. Unfairly giving those runs to Phil. That sucks.

    • crbleakley

and he saves the pitcher before him some earned runs.

    • Chef

What are talking about??? Who put those runners on???

How do you know Phil wouldn’t give up another hit? He already gave up 2 that inning.

In the long run if you have Mariano pitching after you, you are going to get saved more runs than you safe for other pitchers.

    • Zack

unfairly giving those runs to Phil? he put those runners in scoring position, dont do that and you wont have to rely on others to get out of your mess

  • paulc

mo will be just fine…chill out…best closer of all time is correct…only 4 outs….he has had plenty of rest….

    • Mike Pop

True, but, he’s getting older. When you can rest him, you should.

I didn’t have a problem with what Girardi did there. Just my lil man crush on Hughes made me wanted to see him finish the inning.

      • Chef

I actually think Mo has looked worse since he got all that time off in Chicago and the day off.

He needs to pitch more to stay sharp.

  • Dela G

    i love you godzilla

  • crbleakley

I’m pretty sure that Cano must flip a coin each at bat to determine whether or not he swings at the first pitch.

  • Former RAB Lurker

Matsui’s homer isn’t showing up on Gameday, how far was it?

    • manimal

Dead center, decent amount of distance.

It was crushed. Hit straight to CF but I have no clue how long it was.

Only Halladay could pitch 9 innings, throw 103 pitches, and give up 5 runs on 3 bombs.

    • Mike Pop

Yep, he can give up 5 runs and still look pretty good.

    • JobaWockeeZ

He’s not a true ace though.

      • Accent Shallow

Well, imagine the pants-pissing that would happen if the Yankees had given up Joba+ or Hughes+ for him?

  • Mike Pop

    We all remember Oakland…

    • Hola

      grrrr

  • BigBlueAL

Mo looks horrible tonight. Blue Jays announcers saying it is cause he was rushed into the game in the 8th inning and didnt warm up enough. They did show him begin to stretch only after the leadoff hitter got on base in the 8th so maybe some truth to that.

  • Cokie

    Mo a bit shaky eh?

  • V

So, um, maybe these 4 out saves are starting to get to Mo?

    • BigBlueAL

I think it is more rushing him into the game tonight.

Remember those articles all over the web about how unhittable and untouchable Bard was with his scoreless streak? Well Hughes pitched roughly the same exact time frame as Bard without giving up any earned runs. Also, Hughes has pitched more innings in that time span than Bard has. So why the fuck does Bard get all this credit? NOT FAIR.

Even if we signed Bard when we drafted him, and he did the same thing, he wouldn’t get that same attention. It’s BS.

    • Mike Pop

That’s why we can’t let it get to us. The MSM will win, and we can’t let it happen.

    • JobaWockeeZ

    • V

The umps should all be asked to retire, effective immediately.

      Inexcusable call.

      • Mike Pop

What happened in the Boston game?

        • Drew

Aybar bunts Zobrist over. Bard threw the ball into the bullpen. Zobrist rounds third before the ball hits the bullpen shit. The umps took the go ahead run off the board.

        • Riddering

Aybar bunted and Bard threw the ball away down the first base line. It rolled for an eternity and then got stuck in the bullpen area/equipment.

One man was on first base and would have scored if the ball had been fielded and thrown back to home/second base. The umpires ruled it a dead ball so it didn’t matter where the runners were once it got caught.

They just clarified the ‘dead ball’ part in the ninth so before we didn’t even know that. But it’s still bullshit that Bard throwing that ball almost to RF didn’t get a run scored.

          • Mike Pop

            Thank you, both.

  • Drew

God I hate umpires. They have their heads so far up their asses it’s unbelievable.

Traded for him just before the AS break and he’d been struggling. Glad to have him back on track now. What a beast.

  • Drew

    Pujols=4
    Green=0

    • Hola

      that guy is incredible

  • Belstein

    PUJOLS

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I love the Mets. They provide such awesome comic relief.

    • Russell NY

That was a roid shot, all the way. A beautiful roid shot.

    • Steve H

      Comic relief.

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

OH I see what you did there!

  • Mike Pop

Damn, thought that was hit deeper.

  • Drew

So apparently the umps didn’t botch the call. It was a deadball no matter where the runners were.

  • nyrfan

just a base hit, thats a big sb

  • Mike Pop

    Longoria, end this ish now.

    • Mike Pop

Well, I got my hopes up.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Varitek you can’t throw out runners KTHXBYE

  • Salty Buggah

Damn, I wanted the Cards to lose. They have a chance to be awesome in the postseason with their pitching and Pujols/Holliday. Hopefully they dont make it.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

Nah I like the Cards, they can run over the Mets anytime they want.

      • Salty Buggah

sure but I still dont want them making the playoffs because they can be dangerous.

  • Mike Pop

    Damnit Rays.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Kill the sox bullpen. I like.

  • Brazilian Yankee

The Rays are not very good.

  • Salty Buggah

Rays know what they’re doing. They’re keep the Sox hopes up while wasting their pen and once the Sox get a lead, they will crush their souls with a walkoff in the bottom half.

    • Salty Buggah

      maybe they dont

      • Salty Buggah

        maybe they do again

        • Salty Buggah

          they dont again

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Indians DFA Jose Veras…

    • Drew

I had just flushed his name from my mind. And you go and bring him up!

  • Andy In Sunny Daytona

The Rays announcers have been crying about the dead ball now for 2 innings, totally glossing over the fact that they failed to score with the bases loaded and no outs.

    • JobaWockeeZ

I’d be pretty pissed too. Hell I’m kinda ticked off that the umps would make such a call. Rays should have won it. But instead tomorrow ESPN or Fox will give an hour long speech about Bard’s time in Boston saying how he deserves the CY Young.

    • BigBlueAL

Foreel. Get over it you still had the bases loaded and 0 fuckin outs and didnt score.

  • Mike Pop

    Mudafucka.

    Bases juiced, 1 out.

  • Drew

    ughhh damnit tampa

  • Hola

    oh god

why the hell did you throw to second you moron!

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon PED-ROIa DP

    • Salty Buggah

      HAHAHAHAHA!

  • Riddering

Okay, maybe the Rays do deserve to lose this game.

    • Riddering

      I TAKE IT BACK.

      Longoria is da man!

  • Hola

    THANK GOD!

    WHAT AN AMAZING DP!

  • Brazilian Yankee

Dustin the midget grounds into a DP with the bases loaded. Nice.

  • Drew

    Thank you longoria

  • Mike Pop

    tyvm Pedroia.

  • Hola

    aight rays

    lets fucking end this game

    • Salty Buggah

      lets not…lets waste their pen

  • Drew

    Pena rippped that!

  • Brazilian Yankee

The Rays have to score now.

  • Mike Pop

    Boo-ya!

    2nd and 3rd, no outs.

    Do it up, Rays.

  • Hola

    yay runners on the corners!

    • Hola

      i mean 2nd and 3rd

  • whozat

    Let’s go BOSSMAN JR!!!

  • Drew

    Upton wtf

  • Mike Pop

Bases loaded, no outs. If Sox get out of this, they deserve the knob jobs.

  • nyrfan

    third times the charm?

  • Mike Pop

    Oh my Mo.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    IDIOT

  • Hola

    wow that popup sucked

  • Brazilian Yankee

2-0 and Gross pops out. They really don’t want to win this one.

  • Reggie C.

    Gabe Gross = Worthless.

  • Hola

wow are they unclutch, or what?

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Calling a DP.

  • Drew

omg rays wtf plz get this in

  • Arman Tamzarian

    The rays are incompetent

  • Brazilian Yankee

Yeah, it’s official, the Rays are pathetic.

  • Reggie C.

    Michel Hernandez = Worthless

  • Mike Pop

    Gotta be kidding me, right?

  • LiveFromNewYork

    These Rays are idiots

  • dc1874

speaking of worthless…Indians DFA Jose Veras
By Eddie Schmid [August 4 at 9:33pm CST]
Another Indian reliever has been shuffled: According to Anthony Castrovince at MLB.com, the Indians have designated RHP Jose Veras for assignment. He’ll move to make room for Jess Todd, the player to be named later from the Cardinals in the Mark DeRosa deal.

Veras had been acquired from the Yankees in June, and put up a 7.62 ERA in 13 innings for the Indians.

  • Mike Pop

Ramon Ramirez, just become a POS right now!!

  • V

If the Rays don’t win here, I want the game to go 20+ innings. Then I want the next two games to go 20+ innings.

Then the Red Sox come to New York.

  • V

    Wow.

  • Zack

    give me a fucking break

  • Hola

    WOW

    SUPER DUPER UNCLUTCH!

  • Yankee1010

Wow. It’s been like a string of Cano bases loaded at-bats.

    • LiveFromNewYork

I actually thought the same thing.

  • Arman Tamzarian

    Terrible

  • LiveFromNewYork

    IDIOTS

  • JobaWockeeZ

    HOLY FUCK RAYS. HOLY FUCK.

  • Mike Pop

    Disgusting dude.

  • Reggie C.

You’d swear the Rays had Arod on their team …

    • JobaWockeeZ

This may be blasphemy but A-Rod is more clutch than them.

  • Zack

Rays are 1-12 with RISP, who do they think they are the Yankees?

  • Mike Pop

I puked in my mouth a little.

  • Salty Buggah

    OK, now win Rays please

  • Jersey

The Yankees won tonight. Why is everybody bitching about them now while they watch the Rays?

    • Mike Pop

Just having fun with the Yankees don’t hit with RISP, therefore they can’t be a good team meme.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Who’s bitching at what now?

    • Riddering

We’re just treating the Yankees like we would a younger brother.

  • Hola

    NICE K ON YOUKILSUCKS

  • Riddering

Rays’ fans are going to have to ring those cowbells a lot harder.

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon Big PaPED DP!

  • hal

Whatever… At least they’re wearing down the bullpen. .5 GB isnt much worse than 1.5 GB

  • Hola

man that Big POPUP hit had me scared

  • Salty Buggah

If Papi was on roids still, that ball is gone

    • Drew

      easy slopi double in fenway.

  • Hola

    ON TO THE 11TH!

  • Riddering

I’m predicting this game doesn’t end in 11 innings.

  • Salty Buggah

Should the Rays win it here or should they waste another inning or 3 of Boston’s and their own pen and then win?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Drag it on. Kill that unbeatable 0.00 ERA bullpen.
Then the Rays should make the Red Sox starters go 4 innings so their pen can really get tired.
Because right now I have little faith in them scoring on Papelbon.

      • Mike Pop

        Zobrist walkoff.

        • JobaWockeeZ

That’d be nice for my fantasy team.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

How sweet would it be for Papelbon to get the L?

    • Riddering

      I’m drooling in anticipation.

  • Riddering

Oooooh, Papelbon! I’m going to love this inning.

  • Mike Pop

    pap will blow it here

  • Hola

don’t they know he’s going to throw fastballs every time?

  • Hola

oooh so they will have to use paps for 2 innings…

    :salivates:

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Agreed.
If the Rays offense fell asleep at least keep their pen up.

  • Mike Pop

    Mother of Mo.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

This is really good for us because it wears out their Bullpen, and they also have Penny going tomorrow who cannot go past 5 innings, then Smoltz the next day against us.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Keep dragging it out Rays.

    • Hola

I AM SALIVATING AT THAT PROSPECT

  • Hola

    TO THE 12TH!

  • Drew

damn mlb network is saying Pedro was clocked at 93.

  • Mike Pop

    Good work, Balfour.

  • Hola

ON TO THE BOTTOM OF THE 12th!

  • Riddering

It’s a game like this that leads the rest of the league to wishing they had a multipurpose OF like Swisher. ;)

    • JobaWockeeZ

Heh once the Sox tried to pull a Swisher by making Jan Van Every pitch and he got rocked. That’s what they get for copying Swish.

  • Mike Pop

Make Saito throw like 40 pitches. But keep this game going.

    What would they do?

    • Hola

      take wake off the DL?

      • whozat

        …is he healthy?

        • Zack

no, he now has a pinched nerved and has 0 strength in his calves (his own words)

          • Hola

            i was being sarcastic :D

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

How sweet would it be for Saito to get the L?

    • Mike Pop

I’d rather see Jason Bay get it…?

      • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

I don’t know if Bay has the arm for it, but I like where your head is. :)

  • whozat

If the Pena doesn’t hit at least a double right here, the Rays don’t win this game.

    • whozat

Either the Sox win, or this game goes a couple more innings until the top of the Rays lineup has another shot.

      • Mike Pop

Who are the Sox going to have pitch?

        • whozat

They got one more in the pen, right?

  • Mike Pop

Bossman going to redeem himself here??

    • whozat

      Nnnno!

  • Danny

i would love for rays/sux game to continue, wear out that pen!!

    • whozat

They’ll bring up an arm tomorrow…they have an 11 man staff right now.

  • Hola

    Clay Buchholz is warming up

    this should end well

  • Mike Pop

    Clay up in the pen.

  • Arman Tamzarian

Jose Veras is a free agent, lets settle up that bullpen!

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/08/indians-dfa-jose-veras.html

    • whozat

Heh. Will he take a minor league deal? Stash him at AAA :-)

      • Drew

Single A, that dude needs to rework that delivery.

  • Zack

thats masterson arm would have been pretty handy in this game no?

    • 27 this year

i believe so, didn’t Clay start a game like two days ago?

      • Zack

        yeah he did

  • Brazilian Yankee

Unfortunately there’s no doubt the Red Sox will win this game right here against Cormier.

  • Riddering

Man, do I love Ellsbury making an out to centerfield.

  • LiveFromNewYork

If this game was the inspiration for the fight scene in Rocky, the script would have called for each guy to punch themselves out and never connect.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

I would hate to be a catcher in one of these games. I wouldn’t be able to walk the next day.

    • Drew

cap’n america is the only catcher to play all 12.5

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

I played with Jason Varitek; I knew Jason Varitek; Jason Varitek was a friend of mine. Sir, you’re no Jason Varitek.

  • Hola

this ump is killing the rays

    • whozat

This is the most 3-0-ish 1-2 count I’ve ever seen.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Mitch Williams just called Mo “Mariano Duncan”!

    EPIC fail

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

You mean Eric Duncan revived his career has a lights out closer?

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

        as*

    • Drew

heh.. heard that, mariano dunc.. Rivera

      • LiveFromNewYork

He needed to buy a vowel

    • 27 this year

Today’s top story on August 5, 2009, sports analyst Mitch Williams was struck down and killed by lightning on what appears to be a clear sunny day. Scientists are clamoring to find a reason.

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

They say Jesus was not involved.

      • Hola

        IETCVVM

  • Hola

    I LOVE YOU EVAN ALMIGHY!

ON TO THE BOTTOM OF THE 13!

  • Mike Pop

Saito back out. They can get to him.

  • Drew

At this point its a win win. Either Tampa wins or Boston needs to bring in a positional player to pitch. I dont think theyll pitch saito for 3 innings.

  • LiveFromNewYork

Why was a +300 hitter bunting?

  • LiveFromNewYork

Why was a +300 hitter bunting?

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

I’m no “Great” Joe Maddon, but what purpose did that bunt serve?

  • Hola

    this is incredible

can the rays not score one effing run?

    …but…but…but TEH DEPTH!!!1!!!11!!!!eleven!!!!!

  • whozat

On BBTN they just said Yanks take sole possession of first after the Sox lose.

Actually, they have been in sole possession for a week or so, and moved to a game and a half up. Great journalism.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Eh, they were tied in the loss column. Technically they’re right.

      • DougPinstripesForever

and technically they are recognized journalists doesn’t me

it’s true to the honest fans who know better. Mike, they are

biased & cruel tabloidists who deserve all the animosity

        they recieve.

  • DougPinstripesForever

And thank you for MLB network for showing it live {well sort of}! And big booooo to NESPN for not caring to show it!!
