Yanks roll after days off

The Yankees sure like their scheduled days off. They’ve had eight so far this season, counting the All-Star break as just one, and not counting the break between the first and second game of the season. In those contests they’re 5-3 overall, but have won the past three. The last time they lost a game after a day off was the opener of the Atlanta series all the way back in June. I’m not sure what the Yankees do on these days, but it must be working.

Even more impressive is their record in the five games following a scheduled day off: 32-13. Again, it’s more impressive lately. In the five games following their past three scheduled days off, they are 14-1. In the five games following their past four scheduled days off, they are 18-2. Some rest will do the body good, it would seem.

Joe, you know I love your stuff, but this post doesn’t make sense. I’m a smart guy, and it confused the shit out of me, so think of some of the others… haha

I was with you, but just figured it out. He is talking about all 5 games after a day off, not just the first game after.

      • Nigel Incubator-Jones

The funny part is that Joe ssays “In the five games after” 3 different times, and it still confused me the first time through.

          Wait, though:

Even more impressive is their record in the five games following a scheduled day off: 32-13.

          32+13 = 45 games. Wouldn’t the 5 games following our 8 scheduled days off be 40 games? 8×5 = 40?

          What am I missing here?

He probably counted the day off after the first game of the season, which he excluded in the first para.

              Great minds..

              • Nigel Incubator-Jones

Reading comprehension fail.. This is probably why I rarely comment. See you in about 17 posts.

          • Nigel Incubator-Jones

The day before the beginning of the season?

Good record. 8 scheduled off days doesn’t seem like very many. Sure makes you realize how tiring the MLB season is.

methinks joseph might not have been, how shall i say, sober….or maybe he was just…..well….i dont get it it doesnt make sense to me

  • Salty Buggah

I dont why some don’t get it. It seems simple to me. The only thing that may be wrong is what TSJC pointed out. Otherwise, it easily makes sense.

Agreed. To try to save some face I ran the numbers.

If you include the 5 games after the off-day on April 7th, their cumulative record for the 5 games after an off day is 32-13. So they literally have had 9 scheduled off days. But, if you’re going with the spirit of Joe’s post, you could throw out that first off day and they have a 29-11 record in the 8 scheduled off days that actually mean something.
