Over the years, there are three hitters that I always hated seeing come up against the Yankees in a key situation, because I was always sure it was going to end badly for the Yankees. George Brett, Manny Ramirez and Ken Griffey Jr.
The Kid is past his prime, so I sometimes forget how badly he used to punish the Yankees, but I’m still not comfortable when he comes to bat.

The last “horrible loss” we had was in June.
The pain of the loss was oddly eased by the hilarious home plate celebration. Ichiro is one of my favorite all time players.
With that said, he is the only guy in the lienup that can hurt you. I was saying “walk him” as he was walking to the plate. I wonder if Girardi was gun shy because having Mo issue an IBB bit him in the behind earlier in the season. That pitch wasn’t a bad pitch. Ichiro is just that good.

Great win tonight. I went to the men’s room after Mo got the first two outs, but I guess he got the third one before I got back. Satisfying 2-1 win for AJ, with the save for Mo.
Add that to the Yankee fans who don’t think Mo is good enough to get the last out.

Starting pitcher sucks or defense commits a ton of errors or umps make bad crucial calls or offense doesn’t wake up against a lousy pitcher = bad loss.
AJ pitches well, Hughes pitches well, offense gets some off a great pitcher and Mo gives up a walkoff = not a bad loss.
Add the fact that it’s on the West Coast where they don’t play as well, and the fact this game means nothing, and the increased confidence in the playoff rotation with AJ pitching a gem.

A 9th inning loss always sucks, especially when it’s a HR off Mo, but if the Yankees had won but AJ had pitched poorly, I’d probably be more concerned. We need a him at the top of his game come October and tonight was a good sign.

Walking Ichiro there was the biggest no brainer in the history of earth. I have never hated a Yankee manager more than I do Girardi…he is so clueless sometimes I wonder how he could have possibly gotten the job at all. Even Mo knows you should walk Ichiro there.

Singleton and Cone and Girardi all made a good point. You don’t walk a guy with Ichiro’s speed because a gapper brings in the winning run. I was mad at Girardi too during the game but when you think about it, walking Ichiro is very questionable, especailly with Mo on the mound.

I was watching the game and not sitting at my PC…There are Two players in mlb that u walk in that situation, no matter who is pitching…Ichiro and Mauer. If there is a guy at first, of course you dont walk him, but with a base open, its a no brainer. Franklin Gutierrez on Deck…111 SO’s, .750 OPS…an easy out for Mo. If Ichiro only gets a single there it is still a tie game…that is what makes pithing to him even more rediculous. There is having confidence in your HOF pitcher and there is stupidity…This decision was purely uncalculated on Girardi’s part.
Here is my question: who asks a question like this? We all know why Mo pitched to him…because he can and usually does strike him out….because Ichiro does have speed and the guy behind him is not a scrub.

There is no fucking way they are losing the division or home field. So my recommendation is to step away from the computer. Go tell your kids you love them, go tell your wife or girlfriend you love her and move on. It is one game.
Yankees will still take 2-3 from Seattle and the Red Sox will lose at least 1 to Baltimore – there by reducing the Yankees magic number to 7 by Monday morning.
