No need to pinch hit. I’m sure Cervelli needed the rest.
Seemed to call for Hinske as PH
With Jorge’s suspension, it means Cervelli would go the rest of the way, with no backup – something Girardi wants to avoid
Sadly, if not for that broken finger, we *might* have see the Jesus in the Bronx
I’m sure Swisher can catch!
Who do you think taught Johnny Bench how to catch?
Nick Swisher one played a game of golf without clubs. He shot a 17.
I highly, highly doubt that.
He wasn’t even on the 40-man, was he?
Didn’t see the game so I’m assuming from the start ownage AJ is back?
not really. He was ok. More like a shitty Mariner line-up and a couple of breaks. (2 pick-offs).
Mike Axisa says:
It’s okay, not like there’s two other catchers on the bench.
Mike Axisa says:
It’s okay, not like there’s two other catchers on the bench.
There’s only ONE other catcher on the bench at the moment. Axisa TEH EPIC FAIL
Actually, I thought Posada would appeal mid-game.
Still, dumb not to pinch hit.
No, I got you. Just messin with ya.
(gives Axisa a noogie)
NOW LET’S KILL THESE FUCKERS!!!!!
(passes out bayonets)
David Cone needs to do ads for Fan Graphs.
PH for Molina and you’re left without a backup catcher for the rest of the game. With 10 as the magic number theres no need to force someone (Hairston? I think) into emergency catcher and risk further injury.
/looking at it another way
that wasn’t the worst possible outcome…worst is him collapsing AFTER he hit the grounder to short clutching his popped hammy…
Hate those weak hits.
Ichiro’s hitting style is the equivalent of a knuckleball pitcher. I know there’s talent here, but it pisses me off!
Woohoo I made it back and the game’s only in the 7th. So what’s happened so far? I see AJ has been good with his typical 3 walks and 6 K’s. Is his box score as good as he’s pitched?
Freakin Ichiro with 3 hits again!
ichiro, in response to being asked why he doesnt bunt for a hit 2x a game, said ‘father’s dont bring their sons to baseball games to see me bunt.’
i shed a single, solitary, there’s hope left for humanity tear.
I love Ichiro quotes.
Haha, that’s twice that Gutierrez has fouled off pitches on which Ichiro would’ve stolen.
Ichiro would be a god if he played in NY. He’d make Jeter look like Wayne Brady.
Really, Mike. I can’t remember the last time Jeter was picked off twice in a game. (Couldn’t resist!)
SPOKE TOO SOON MUTHAF$%#KA
Picked off Ichiro twice. Wow, just wow.
AJ says ‘anything andy can do i can better’
Unbelievable – Ichiro picked off TWICE!
The ball beat him.
as a happy aside, the giambino throws both of those into left field
giambi could only make the scoops.
And wear the thongs.
And pound the Jack.
OH CRAP THERE GOES THE MVP
he boot it?
Yeah, off the heel of the glove. He probably wouldn’t have gotten him anyway, though. Just goofin.
Those two Ichiro pick-offs might have cost the M’s this game. Both times, hits followed.
Great start, AJ!
I know Jeter’s been real good on defense this year but he still needs to work on his range to his right.
Granted, he probably wouldn’t have gotten FG on that.
Up next, The Hughes and Mo Show
Here’s a thought. If AJ Burnett throws a brushback pitch with his ‘ELECTRIC STUFF’,
technically wouldn’t he be giving them a Lectric shave?
Come on. Someone’s visualizing the ad right now.
He’s really pounding the zone. The AutoZone!
To be honest, I’ve been waiting for years for “Enter Sandman” to be changed to Modell’s slightly altered version of “Gotta Go to Mo”.
Whoa, Felix is in there still?
He’s at 86 pitches.
yea, I didnt see. I just came home.
92 end of 8. wtf ruthless efficiency?
Oh Yahoo didn’t update.
But he’s still a monster.
I miss me some DOTF
Watching this game tonight, I can’t decide if Felix Hernandez looks like a fat thin guy or a thin fat guy.
felix throws a nine inning two run loss
I’m laughing already and we haven’t even started doing the jokes yet.
Felix has sexy stuff…
If Coke faces Griffey, I’m gonna be kinda peeved.
you know, we got a lot of under 300 hittin mofos on this team…
Who nevertheless knock the shit out of the ball.
Up until tonight, has AJ picked anyone off? Pettitte picking off the same guy in a game wouldn’t be surprising (well, I guess it would since most runners stay close to the bag against him now), but I don’t remember AJ picking off a runner before tonight and to do it twice in a game would be surprising, to do it twice against the same runner is more surprising, and the to do it twice against Ichiro is…
Why, yes, I was struggling to find just the right word.
I want Melky to throw a pie in AJ’s face just for those pickoffs.
That would be poetic justice.
…is not impressed with ol’ man griffey, and wins by challenging him with heat.
good job kid
…is not impressed with ol’ man griffey one nut, and wins by challenging him with heat and a wicked curve. good job kid
…is not impressed with ol’…fuck it. 3 outs.
phranchise is good at baseball.
Over the years, there are three hitters that I always hated seeing come up against the Yankees in a key situation, because I was always sure it was going to end badly for the Yankees. George Brett, Manny Ramirez and Ken Griffey Jr.
The Kid is past his prime, so I sometimes forget how badly he used to punish the Yankees, but I’m still not comfortable when he comes to bat.
I love watching Ken Griffey Jr’s swing.
I love watching Ken Griffey Jr’s swing and miss.
Meh, I’m not talking about this game, just in general. His swing always was a thing of beauty. It’s too slow to be effective now, but it’s just sweet to look at. He’s like never off-balance.
Griffey, Manny, Frank Thomas, and Strawberry are probably my four favorite swings ever (from my lifetime only, of course).
you like the poetic swings…i like the anarchic swings.
to wit: sheff. wtf? love it.
despise: that fucked up dude from boston who wont put two hands on the bat.
Heh. Sheff is funny. I like it too, just because it’s so ungodly violent at all times.
That dude from Boston has one of the strangest batting stances ever. He looks sort of effiminate the way bounces around in the box and has his right hand sort of caressing the bat with only a couple fingers.
Hughes has damn good back leg drive and gets a lot lower than I thought he did. I like it. If he keeps that up as a starter, that’ll keep the velocity up.
Hughes Just bitch smacked Hall there.
come on bill hall, you know you never had a chance there
look on the bright side, you didn’t have to face mo
love watching the hughes… first two fast balls to Beltre said ” Hello bitches, hit me”. HA!
I mean I guess that was OK
Hello my name is Phil HUGHES> See this fastball, Fuck you! HAAAAAAA! Finally this guy is turning into all the hype… Love it!!!!!!
If A-Rod keeps this up, he might make it to the HOF.
A-rod takes a lead in the A-rod/Tex Batting Average Race.
ok, night gang, see you sunday…tomorrow is ‘lake day’ the sacred ritual of the rememberance of the day man and woman became husband and wife, celebrated by having the kid spend the night somewhere else and baseball/internet/iphone apps/texting/discovery-history-espn-nat geo channels are all forbidden.
Fuck her gently.
oh, its not my birthday, its our anniversary…
I literally LOL’d.
just you wait!
im out–later guys!
i’ll check to see who #8 is later!
ARod >>>>>>> the haters
Jeterian swing from ARod?
All time most frustrating Yankee pitchers (not necessarily in order of frustration level):
8)Chien Ming Wang – 2009 Edition Only
Where’s Jaret Wright?
Joba and Hughes. WHY WON’T THOSE ASSKNOCKERS JUST PITCH LIKE MINI-WALTER-JOHNSONS ALREADY?!?!?!??!
Add in IPK, Melancon, Dunn, and Coke.
Jose Veras maybe?
this list is nothing without jeff weaver
Here, how about this:
Most frustrating GOOD Yankee pitcher ever:
Jimmy Key. He was money, but I could not STAND watching his games. Nothing but nibbling, nibbling, nibbling all night long. Raised my blood pressure and took forever.
Why did he swing at that? what the hell is that noise?
no pinch runner for arod?
Why would he need a pinch-runner?
i said this after he got he his single. mind as well, you have a massive bench tonight. try and steal a base with a pinch runner. avoid making him stress the hip. it was just a suggestion.
What does “mind as well” mean?
It could of meant something.
It’s still a close game, they might need his bat later. I’m not worried about his hip, they were just off yesterday and have a day off a week the rest of the way.
why is everyone going crazy over such a small move? this game means basically very little in the grand scheme of things. give a chance for guys on the bench to try and steal a base and bring someone in to play defense for arod. i was just suggesting it wouldn’t do any harm to have someone come in for him. i didnt realize having someone pinch run for him was like me making a grady little like move in the ALCS.
Dude, noone is going crazy.
Yes, but Mike, you forget: He sucks and is a clubhouse cancer. You’ve got to remove him from the game at the first possible opportunity because he’s horrible.
Now, if that’s Michael Young, that’s a whole different story. Michael Young is the balls. If I could have any single third baseman in all of baseball, I’d definitely take Michael Young, not ARod, David Wright, or Evan Longoria, those pathetic turdburglars. It’s all Mikey Yizzy in the Hizzy, my Nizzy!
For a guy with 11sb to 2cs in the season???
Looking at Swish’s face right there, I would not want be near him.
Nick does not look happy. Stole his dog indeed.
While watching Jose Molasses plod down the line after grounding into an inning ending DP, I say to myself in only the most childish way possible, “Montero can’t stick behind the dish because he’s tooooooooooooo biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig.”
This Molina isn’t exactly moonlighting for the flying trapeze.
I just had to get that out of my system.
Best name of a Yankee pitcher of all time:
Runner’s Up – Slim Love and Dazzy Vance
Who was the last Yankees pitcher to win the Cy Young? What year was it?
Guidry was truly amzing that year.
Wasn’t it Clemens in 2000 or 2001?
Oh yeah, forgot Clemens. Should have been Moose that year.
Yeah, ’01. The year he started out 19-0 or 20-0 or whatever it was.
I thought it was like 1-1 and then a 19 game streak.
I have no idea what I’m talking about. It was 4-0, then 4-1, then 20-1. Finished at 20-3.
4-1, 16 straight wins.
i hope that history comes around on clemens eventually
did he use steroids? almost definitely.
is he an all around shitty person? almost definitely.
but is he one of the greatest pitchers any of us will ever see take the mound? yes, and don’t forget it. i don’t feel bad for the juiced up hitters who were getting dominated by a juiced up pitcher.
2 funny things about king felix’s excellent outing tonight:
1) in 9 innings of work, getting over and covering first on the last out of the 9th was one of his better plays (and one that absolutely no one will remember)
2) he’s going to lose
isn’t baseball fun?
Good god, was Felix awful tonight. Horrible, horrible pitcher. Totally worthless. Did not accomplish any single thing of value for his team.
Waste of space. DFA that buttpirate immediately.
His team rallying is way below average.
Mo v Hannahan/Johnson/Wilson
It’s always advantage Mo.
Even when he’s at the plate.
Pinch hitting with a lefty against Mo is stupid.
With a good postseason, could Mo take the Cy Young? ESPN has a cy young predictor, http://espn.go.com/mlb/features/cyyoung
and it shows Mo at #3, before CC. Could he really take it??
Not likely, but he’s obviously in the conversation.
Pretty sure they vote on it right after the regular season, because its a regular season award.
One more K Mo.
Mo is not amused.
My name is Mariano, You killed my father, prepare to die!
No big deal…….yet.
Thanks god we’re not in Yankee Stadium on that hit.
well, that was unexpected.
Congrats to Mo hitting the 1000 K.
And then some turd hits a 2B.
Gardner would have caught that ball!!!!
Probably Melky in right catches it
Man…. that blows
So … wow.
wow, don’t think anyone saw that coming.
You’ve got to be kidding me.
I said walk, him, damn it!
This will set the tone for the rst of the west coast series….Mark my words.
No it won’t. This will be forgotten within 24 hours.
You hope. If they drop 4 out 6 out west that 3 game series against Boston will have some juice no?
In FANland, sure. In reality, no.
What makes you think they’ll drop 4 of 6?
Don’t ask, you won’t want to know.
I’m going to travel back to July and try to care.
this is a winning comment
Not at all. In the end, AJ’s stellar outing is more important than probability catching up with Mo for a game.
We’ll get ‘em tomorrow…
AAAAAAAAND HE BLOWS IT
Hey dumbass, I am Mariano, watch this strike!
That didn’t really happen . . . did it?. Should have walked Ichiro. Dumb.
Didn’t see that coming.
1st base was open wtf.
umm. What? Ichiro can has homerun?
ESPN: “MMMmmmmmmugggghhhhhhh *splish*”
Well, it was what, 34 in a row? It was bound to happen sometime.
True. Still doesn’t take a lot of the sting out of it.
Yup, I was thinking that when he came in, but when Mo doesn’t have it, it’s usually obvious. He looked quite good the first two batters.
They should have walked him.
2 for 10 lifetime with no HRs
I don’t think you walk the go-ahead run, unless it’s Barry Bonds, Ortiz or Manny in their primes
Mo missed his spot. Big time
Hmmm… maybe we shouldn’t have picked him off twice.
that’s what I was thinking. It’s like the Hulk…you don’t want to make him angry.
So uhh… does Felix get the win?
So much for the league leader in ground balls.
S0 glad I stayed up for that.
Ichiro >>>> Mo
With first base open, and Ichiro hot as hell, how does Girardi not call for the IBB there?
Because Mo thinks he can strike him out.
He didn’t even need to hit a HR, a single would have tied it.
I don’t understand how you even let Ichiro beat you in that situation. Don’t even give him the chance.
My retort: We still don’t care about these games. Still meaningless.
AJ pitched well. That makes this game a moral victory. The most important task was accomplished.
I thought God was perfect.
better blow the save now than in an important playoff game
That just ruined my week.
Cue in the never seen before trolls…
Y the fuck did they pitch to him????????
Because it’s Mo.
Mom is trying to tell me not to be upset. In the long run, I won’t but how can I not be stunned.
That’s one of the most disappointing losses of the year.
Most frustrating Yankee pitcher ever: Mariano Rivera.
What a horrible, pathetic loser that guy is.
How many wins does he have? Pathetic. He fucking sucks. He should have walked Ichiro because he is such a God awful pitcher.
No, Mo doesn’t suck. No one is saying that.
Sometimes you have to play smart and maximize your chances to win the game, even with the best pitcher on the mound.
bobtaco: We’re not talking about you.
He was being sarcastic.
does he have any options left?
Yeah, here’s an option: either go pitch in Mexico or go pitch in Japan, you no-talent, never amount to nothing loser douchebag!
he obviously isnt focusing out there, he should have pulled him after the double
Should have euthanized him on the mound. It’s all over for Mo. No coming back from that shit.
steep decline. we need a closer of the future thread!
Well at least you made me laugh.
Immediate DFA. Bring up that Kei Igawa guy to replace him.
Should have brought in the Wild Thing.
That ball Ichiro hit was in the batters box. I do wonder if they need to start going away to start guys off.
Or how about going away to a guy who is already out of the batters box before he swings. He cant hit a home run on an away pitch, since he has zero momentum that way. Stupid call by Molina.
dude, posada called that pitch from the clubhouse
I hope Girardi learns with his mistakes. First, the decision to not PH for Molina was just terrible and it might have cost us the game, one extra run would have made a huge diference. Second, the only guy on the other team who can hit is this guy called Ichiro, it’s inexcusable to pitch to him there. That one definately cost us the game. Just a terrible job by Girardi…
This is totally Girardi’s loss.
Hold on one second…
Okay. I just got off the phone with Girardi. He said, and I quote: “I don’t give a shit. Been on autopilot all month.”
Mo thinks he can strike him out. Period.
there goes teh division!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah it’s “inexcusable.”
So when Girardi calls for the IBB on Longoria it’s fucking retarded.
When he doesn’t on Ichiro. he’s retarded.
IT’S MO. 2 outs.
It’s the right call to walk the other team’s best hitter if you can. No matter who the pitcher is. If you have a chance to face a 99 OPS+ hitter instead of a 127 OPS+ you should do it eleven times out of ten.
Then why don’t we see IBB’s every game?
Why is no one bitching about this until a loss occurs?
no, because you dont put the winning run on base. a bloop double or a misplay and he scores.
and when your closer have a ERA+ of 268, you dont have to IBB anyone
AJ was good, Hughes was good, Mo was good. But Ichiro got to him and that’s base-fucking-ball.
Maybe we shouldn’t salivate over Felix pitching 9 and losing before he’s actually lost.
That’s why they play 9 innings.
Mo wasn’t good
Mo WAS good. Ichiro hit a ridiculous pitch inside. He made ONE bad pitch to the batter before. Gimmie a fuc*ing break.
oh well, it was bound to happen. just shake it off and win the game tomorrow with CC on the mound.
well that blows. Oh well, win the next two and move on to the “whatever their name is Angels.”
You don’t put the winning run on first. What if the next guy hits a double in that cavern? You’d be second Girardi either way.
Tough fucking loss, and at the hands of one of the players I hate the most in this league. But what are you going to do?
You do if the winning run is .350 and the guy on deck is .270.
with two outs, I take my chances with Gutierrez.
Don’t let Ichiro beat you.
With I don’t care how many outs, I’ll take my chances with Mo against anyone.
Two hitters, one with a 99 OPS+ and the other one with a 127 OPS+. Who would you rather face?
k well i’d rather he got that outta his system now then come october, now go away trolls.
Just the 2nd and 3rd earned runs Mo’s allowed since June 12th.
….and this is why we should never forget Pearl Harbor. (In all seriousness,I am flabbergasted this is garbage)
AJ pitched a gem
Justice is kinda served. The King went 9 and deserved to win.
Who cares? I’d rather them lose like this than A.J. have another bad start…
All in all, Good game in the long run for the Yanks.
Not me – if AJ gives up 6 runs in the 4th, I’d be in bed already, sad but resting comfortably.
Now I’m up at 12:51am and pissed off, and there’s no beer in the fridge.
Who cares? WTF
This game is meaningless. Yankees are still going to the playoffs regardless. They will probably win home field too.
So losing a game to a frontline OMFG WTF pitcher, on the west coast with a hgue lead should not lead to much concern.
Mo is part human. Sometimes he blows saves. Good thing it happened in a meaningless game. AJ Burnett was dominant. That’s the most important thing about the game and he was great.
Sure it sucks but who cares?
Good game? AJ pitched good yes but this is a horrible loss. Girardi should of walked The Assassin Ichiro, you have to in that spot. Also Joe should of pinch hit for Molina when they had 1st and 3rd and one out. Hopefully Joe will learn from his mistakes. The Yanks still have the best record in baseball. Case closed.
This really isn’t that horrible, brah.
AJ pitched good yes but this is a horrible loss.
There’s no such thing as a “horrible loss” when you have a magic number of 10 with 30 combined games left on the schedule for the Yankees and Red Sox.
The last “horrible loss” we had was in June.
The pain of the loss was oddly eased by the hilarious home plate celebration. Ichiro is one of my favorite all time players.
With that said, he is the only guy in the lienup that can hurt you. I was saying “walk him” as he was walking to the plate. I wonder if Girardi was gun shy because having Mo issue an IBB bit him in the behind earlier in the season. That pitch wasn’t a bad pitch. Ichiro is just that good.
I like Ichiro. I think Girardi lets Mo do what he wants after that IBB earlier. I think Mo just hates IBBs and there ya go.
Mo has faith in his stuff and he should.
Girardi will cost us in October
Tonight’s game: Not October
If he manages like an ass in Oct. he will cost the Yanks.
Well he’s managed to get us TO October, so I’ll trust what he does.
It’s Mariano Rivera the best relief pitcher in the history of the game. I have faith in him to get him out.
He didn’t. He’s part human. He made a mistake. Blaming everything on Girardi is one of the most annoying things I ever heard.
It’s fucking Mariano Rivera.
And the reason why you can’t assume that he’ll manage like an ass in October based on a game in September is because that game in September IS NOT A FUCKING GAME IN OCTOBER.
A nice preview. Aj vs a top pitcher. On road. This was a playoff preview. Don’t discount it
I’ll just have to find a way to live with two out of three.
Something to cheer us up:
Yeah, Mo is incredible and if Ichiro hit a homer off him, good for Ichiro (or anyone else). You can’t really get mad about that.
The way that double was just smacked, I almost expected Ichiro to tie the game. Never saw a HR coming, though.
EXACTLY. So if a single ties the game, why let the best contact hitter in the last 50 years BEAT you.
i’m with matty ice’s comment above. you never put the winning run on base (and ichiro’s speed makes it an even dicier proposition–he’d score on a gapper.)
when you have mariano rivera on the mound with 2 outs, you have to have faith in letting him get the 3rd.
99 times out of 100 the yankees win tonight. i can live with having just watched the 1.
WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?
Are people really that upset? who gives a rats ass….. See you in October bitches with three champagne toasts – ALDS, ALCS, AND #27 WS….ALL IS RIGHT IN THE UNIVERSE.
Got to like the positive attitude.
this is the only place where people excuse a bad loss like this.
You’ve got to chill. The only reason you think it’s a bad loss is because it ended like it did. If AJ gives up 3 over 7 IP and it ends 3-2, no one gives a shit.
Who cares, they’re still in first, still have the best record in baseball. If you can’t brush this loss off, then you take it too seriously.
Maybe you should go to one of those other places?
This isn’t a tough loss?? We saw a great game n we saw our manager make some boner moves. We can’t discuss that? No ones jumping off a bridge
Like what? Letting Mariano Freaking Rivera pitch to a guy?
Shit. HTML fail.
we saw our manager make some boner moves.
Like what? Letting Mariano Freaking Rivera pitch to a guy?
This really, truly isn’t a tough loss. And everything Girardi did was defensible. He’s still my dawg.
This isn’t a tough loss??
(doublechecks calendar to make sure it’s still September 19th)
(doublechecks standings to make sure we still have a magic number of 10 and a playoff expectancy of over 99%)
Nope. Not remotely. The last tough loss we had was in June.
yeah we should all be crying about a team thats going to win 100 games and lost one because Mo gave up a walk off
Bad loss? Dude, it is one game and they are still winning the division and having home field…
Hit the bong and call it a day.
or the only place where people are realistic.
We can’t look at this loss critically? The Pollyanna shit is for morons
Were you truly looking at it critically, you’d recognize that these games are throwaway games that have no meaning or value.
And that AJ, who we were all worried about, is in fine form and we KNOW Mo will return to Mo form.
But nooooooooo…The sky is falling…the sky is falling…
Aj vs king is a throwaway? Keep dreaming Pollyanna. Ur kidding right? This was a playoff preview. Bright side? Aj awesome
“Playoff preview” = utterly irrelevant
We won’t see Felix in the playoffs. Or Ichiro. Or anyone on Seattle’s ballclub. So how is this a playoff preview?
Great win tonight. I went to the men’s room after Mo got the first two outs, but I guess he got the third one before I got back. Satisfying 2-1 win for AJ, with the save for Mo.
Add that to the Yankee fans who don’t think Mo is good enough to get the last out.
Important lessons learned from tonight:
1) AJ does not suck
[end of list]
Girardi better improve. Don’t discount this ad a playoff preview
except its not. you dont manage the same with a 6 game lead compared to a 5 game series
Yes, he’s sucked so far this year. We are the worst team in baseball.
Are you high Girardi did nothing wrong.
Don’t discount this as a playoff preview
That is exactly, precisely what I will do. Watch me discounting. I’m discounting that shit as we speak. Sit there and watch me discount the fuck out of it. Stop me from discounting, I dare you, I double dare you, muthaf#$%a, watch me discount that one more god damn time.
What does “don’t discount this as a playoff preview” mean? Does it mean don’t discount the fact that this is a playoff preview? Because if it means that, I’m a discounting too…
and a nice silver lining
One bad move kills in playoffs. Not pinch hitting for Molina? Bad.
This game isn’t a playoff game. It’s a meaningless game. Meaningless. Meaningless. Meaningless.
Vs Felix is throwaway? Sure. This was a playoff game
No it wasn’t. Not at all.
Except its not. Molina is going to be STARTING a playoff game?
This was a playoff game
(checks calendar yet again, reconfirming that, yes, it is still in fact September 19th)
Nope. It wasn’t a playoff game. It just wasn’t. I don’t know how else to explain it to you. The last time there was a playoff game on September 19th was like 1981.
I can guarantee you we will not see Felix in the playoffs.
Times Joe Girardi will be faced with the choice of whether or not to pinch hit for Jose Molina in the playoffs:
negative 1 billion
Do you think Molina will ever see the field in the playoffs? No, so stop crying
Good defense. It will never happen. Sweet
Are you seriously saying you want good defense but probably can’t hit a little league fastball past the shortstop instead of one of the greatest hitting catchers of all time in the lineup IN THE PLAYOFFS?
What senario would possibly lead to Molina playing in the playoffs?
Remember that game when Girardi sat Posada, Matsui and Damon? If he pulls that shit in the playoffs were going to lose!!!!!!!
Because obviously the moves he makes with a 6 game lead in September are the same ones hes going to make in October.
ALCS Game 1 starters!!
Wow. Just wow. I blew off an 18 year old girl who wanted to go on a date tonight, cuz we had a pitchers duel going and I wanted to see the Yanks stick it to the King. Now I don’t get to watch a win, and I don’t get laid. Double dutch.
who watches baseball instead of getting laid? Dude.
those who cant multi task?
Call her back IMMEDIATELY. She can help you forget this loss.
Go buy a TiVo.
Starting pitcher sucks or defense commits a ton of errors or umps make bad crucial calls or offense doesn’t wake up against a lousy pitcher = bad loss.
AJ pitches well, Hughes pitches well, offense gets some off a great pitcher and Mo gives up a walkoff = not a bad loss.
Add the fact that it’s on the West Coast where they don’t play as well, and the fact this game means nothing, and the increased confidence in the playoff rotation with AJ pitching a gem.
What happened to Girardi’s left eye. Did he get hit in the brawl the other night?
why yes he did.
he asked Mo to IBB Ichiro so he bitch slapped joe
A 9th inning loss always sucks, especially when it’s a HR off Mo, but if the Yankees had won but AJ had pitched poorly, I’d probably be more concerned. We need a him at the top of his game come October and tonight was a good sign.
Walking Ichiro there was the biggest no brainer in the history of earth. I have never hated a Yankee manager more than I do Girardi…he is so clueless sometimes I wonder how he could have possibly gotten the job at all. Even Mo knows you should walk Ichiro there.
If Mo WANTED to walk Ichiro he would have.
where was your post saying they should IBB ichiro before the HR?
That’s not the way hindsight works – OH WAI-
Even Mo knew? So the best relief pitcher in the history of baseball was scared when of a batter that is 2 for 10 lifetime against him?
Why do I not believe you.
I don’t know why people aren’t bitching about the non walk when they NEVER bitched about this before.
Singleton and Cone and Girardi all made a good point. You don’t walk a guy with Ichiro’s speed because a gapper brings in the winning run. I was mad at Girardi too during the game but when you think about it, walking Ichiro is very questionable, especailly with Mo on the mound.
Where are all these whiners when WE have a walkoff? (which is, like, a lot of the time)
At least Lanny/Bo isn’t here. Or to some extent Alex Gonzalez.
Ok. Here’s question. Y even pitch to ichiro? Base open. Who’s even behind him????
Answer: because Mariano is pitching
Doesn’t matter. Mo’s pitching.
Gutierrez – an above average hitter.
Because you’ve got the best relief pitcher of all time pitching.
Here’s a question. Y even pitch to ichiro? Base open. Who’s even behind him????
My answer: I couldn’t care less.
Yea. Great managing. Base open n pitch to their only hitter. Keep defending that
Dude, 99 times out of 100 they win the game with a runner on 2nd and two outs. This was the one.
Where was your post about IBB ichiro before the HR? 2nd guess the manager after the fact, keep defending that.
I was watching the game and not sitting at my PC…There are Two players in mlb that u walk in that situation, no matter who is pitching…Ichiro and Mauer. If there is a guy at first, of course you dont walk him, but with a base open, its a no brainer. Franklin Gutierrez on Deck…111 SO’s, .750 OPS…an easy out for Mo. If Ichiro only gets a single there it is still a tie game…that is what makes pithing to him even more rediculous. There is having confidence in your HOF pitcher and there is stupidity…This decision was purely uncalculated on Girardi’s part.
Here is my question: who asks a question like this? We all know why Mo pitched to him…because he can and usually does strike him out….because Ichiro does have speed and the guy behind him is not a scrub.
So how can you even ask this question yet alone OVER AND OVER AGAIN
That’s ur def of it?
Two articles will dominate the paper in the coming days:
1. Another rash of A.J./Molina articles
2. Mo is losing it articles.
They practically write themselves.
to go along with #2, how Cashman failed for not getting Billy Wagner and not moving Joba to the pen
TWO BLOWN SAVES! Clearly he’s done for!!
Mariano when he’s only okay is still at the very least as good as most of the closers hanging around MLB.
Damn. That is all.
Yup. Bad way to end the game but they’ll get them later today.
I still can’t believe Teixeira ran down Ichiro on the first pick-off play.
Only whine I’ve got is letting Molina hit for himself, which angered me at the time. The outcome there was inevitable.
Mariano’s meh months are the same as everyone else’s good months so pardon me if I’m not worried.
Ok, last comment for the night. Many of you need to chill. I am more critical of meaningless Yankee games than most and even I recognize that these game mean little more than HOW QUICKLY THE YANKEES WRAP THINGS UP.
There is no fucking way they are losing the division or home field. So my recommendation is to step away from the computer. Go tell your kids you love them, go tell your wife or girlfriend you love her and move on. It is one game.
Yankees will still take 2-3 from Seattle and the Red Sox will lose at least 1 to Baltimore – there by reducing the Yankees magic number to 7 by Monday morning.
October magic is in the air, don’t try to piss on the fire, you might get burned.
