Here’s something to chew on: A-Rod need 20 more homers for 600 career. He has the rest of this year, plus all of April, May, June, and most of July next year to get it before his 35th birthday. 35th!
That’s insane.
I thought if he didn’t get hurt this year, he could’ve gotten to 600 this year.
He missed 28 games. He’s great, but I can’t see him hitting 20 homers in 28 games.
What about those other games where he had to be rested? Plus he had his rehab in-season, so maybe he hits more in the 116 games he’s played anyway.
Not saying he would have done it, but 47 homers for a healthy A-Rod isn’t unrealistic.

PECOTA puts his chances of passing Bonds at less than 50%. That’s probably reasonable – and far far far higher than any one elses chances.
Fair enough, I just don’t think much of PECOTA.

PECOTA will never think that players will break all time records. PECOTA matches your career to a bunch of similar players and projects you based on that. If you’re breaking an all time record, there aren’t going to be many careers that are very similar to yours, if any.

So every year I have to vote on approving moneys for my former highschool and the according school district.
They want 100+ mil this year. Same as last year and years prior. All for renovations, efficiency updates blah blah.. When the fuck are they going to ask me to approve some new books. When I was in Highschool and middle school, all my books were about 10+ years old. My brother started middle school this year, he’s got the same deal, old ass books.

I am a public school teacher and I approve this message.
teachers teach from what they did their first year with that text book. They keep the same notes for the same days of every year, it’s sad really, so changing text books will have to make them “do their job” and teach the kids as a teacher instead of someone who just reads a text book.
That’s really not where education is at these days, JSquared. Trust me. You’re talking about a very small percentage of teachers (who are mostly old and set in their ways). There is a lot of great, innovative stuff going on in teaching and little to none of it involves a textbook.

Well, i graduated from one of the better schools on Long Island in 08′ and i had plenty of teachers who had notes from years ago on transparencies, not that i care about teachers, but many of them do that, sure there are new things they do, but changing text books is costly money wise and teaching wise… is the point.

He wanted to know why they didn’t change the books, my neighbor is actually the president of a school board and has had teachers complain about changing textbooks.
My point was that if they want me to approve 100+ mil which comes out of my taxes they should work on buying some new books for the kids. The quality of text books in public schools is appauling.
I know why kid’s don’t have new textbooks. Starts with a “C,” ends with “orruption.” So much money is absorbed by school districts it is ridiculous.
I just watched a special on how bad/expensive new texts are.
Maybe intro tonphysics and US History to WWII isn’t all that different.
Maybe there are lots of new and exciting things going on and little to none of it involves textbooks.

There’s some talk here about not buying new books anymore–skip two years of programmed replacement and give all 7th graders a “kindle.” (so far parents are pretty men about the deal for tons of reasons)

You know, I’ve never seen a HR in my few times playing OF in a game (not for a team or anything, just with friends). In fact, I’ve never seen a HR (except in a live MLB game) in real life, besides the few I hit. My neighborhood park is huge though.
i hit a homerun in my softball league last year (290 feet to center) beyond the centerfield wall.
that was the only HR i’ve ever hit in softball (about 60 or so games).
I hit quite a few (about 7 a year) as a jr high/high school baseball player, but a softball is so much harder to hit out of the park

The park I play in is at least 400 to center, where I hit it but batting lefty helped. But it is the thin Colorado air here.

For what it’s worth, Gaudin is really really inefficient when he pitches. Sometimes it feels like he just gets more lucky than Joba and gets out of jams better, is it more experience, better mental fortitude, or just more grit?~
Yea, he is usually inefficient. He is VERY lucky according to his FIP.
Well, of late Joba has been terrible, without command and just bad.
The normal Joba, who was winning but generally inefficient was not all that different from Gaudin. It’s just that we expect Joba to be Justin Verlander and throw 6-8 dominant innings. We expect Gaudin to not totally suck.
Gaudin has half the talent Joba has. If hes lucky.

Yea, my latest one. I thought I hit a line drive double but it surprisingly got out and hit someone’s deck in their backyard. What was special about it was that it was A-rod-esque. It was my first time playing in about a year and it was the 1st pitch I saw. Straightaway center but again from my left side. I don’t remember hitting any HRs from my right side, though I reached the fence a couple of times.
