Give that man a playoff rotation spot.

  1. Dela G says:

    gaudin was fucking filthy

  2. JSquared says:

Keep the ball low, mix up your pitches = Gaudin.

  3. Mike Axisa says:

Here’s something to chew on: A-Rod need 20 more homers for 600 career. He has the rest of this year, plus all of April, May, June, and most of July next year to get it before his 35th birthday. 35th!

    That’s insane.

  4. Tom Zig says:

    Lightning in a bottle baby

  5. Dela G says:

  6. JSquared says:

Who doesn’t love the MVP’s swing.

  7. Riddering says:

    That’s the Jeter I remember.

  8. Drew says:

So every year I have to vote on approving moneys for my former highschool and the according school district.

They want 100+ mil this year. Same as last year and years prior. All for renovations, efficiency updates blah blah.. When the fuck are they going to ask me to approve some new books. When I was in Highschool and middle school, all my books were about 10+ years old. My brother started middle school this year, he’s got the same deal, old ass books.

    • Pasqua says:

I am a public school teacher and I approve this message.

    • JSquared says:

teachers teach from what they did their first year with that text book. They keep the same notes for the same days of every year, it’s sad really, so changing text books will have to make them “do their job” and teach the kids as a teacher instead of someone who just reads a text book.

      • Pasqua says:

That’s really not where education is at these days, JSquared. Trust me. You’re talking about a very small percentage of teachers (who are mostly old and set in their ways). There is a lot of great, innovative stuff going on in teaching and little to none of it involves a textbook.

        Wait, there’s a baseball game? Errrrr….

        Go Yanks?

        • JSquared says:

Well, i graduated from one of the better schools on Long Island in 08′ and i had plenty of teachers who had notes from years ago on transparencies, not that i care about teachers, but many of them do that, sure there are new things they do, but changing text books is costly money wise and teaching wise… is the point.

          • aphil says:

          • Pasqua says:

I don’t understand your point, but that’s okay. We can debate it after we win the Series.

            • JSquared says:

He wanted to know why they didn’t change the books, my neighbor is actually the president of a school board and has had teachers complain about changing textbooks.

              • Drew says:

My point was that if they want me to approve 100+ mil which comes out of my taxes they should work on buying some new books for the kids. The quality of text books in public schools is appauling.

I know why kid’s don’t have new textbooks. Starts with a “C,” ends with “orruption.” So much money is absorbed by school districts it is ridiculous.

                • King of Fruity Hypos says:

I just watched a special on how bad/expensive new texts are.

Maybe intro tonphysics and US History to WWII isn’t all that different.

Maybe there are lots of new and exciting things going on and little to none of it involves textbooks.

Maybe they’re trying to be responsible

There’s some talk here about not buying new books anymore–skip two years of programmed replacement and give all 7th graders a “kindle.” (so far parents are pretty men about the deal for tons of reasons)

  9. Salty Buggah says:

From Kenny’s mouth to Jeter’s bat

  10. Dela G says:

    nice steal for jetes

    i hope he’s ok

  11. Accent Shallow says:

So what is Mathis good for, again? So glad they’re resting Napoli for the playoffs.

  12. Manimal says:

Its amazing how much Jobamania has cooled off in recent weeks and months.

  13. Drew says:

Ugh… Get em on, get em over. wtf

  14. Dammit, right the fuck at him. Someone go kill a chicken for BABIP luck.

  15. Accent Shallow says:

The Angels move that runner over, guys!

  16. Reggie C. says:

    Damn Jd. Too bad.

Chad Gaudin’s next inning is going to be interesting. Keep mixing your speeds!

  17. Salty Buggah says:

    bad luck for Texy there

  18. Keanu Reeves says:

Another reason for me to love the captain:

That steal put me in first place for the time being in my 10-team roto league.

  19. Brazilian Yankee says:

This umpiring crew really love a strikeout.

  20. e mills says:

    Mark Teixeira is the answer

  21. Tex, vs. Edwar, at the Stadium.

  22. Drew says:

But Mathis pulled his glove up. Isn’t that a Ball!!???111?

  23. Salty Buggah says:

    He framed that pitch!?!?

  24. Dela G says:

cmon alex, you can’t stare that shit down there with this wide zone

  25. Dela G says:

i def remember that 10-9 game

  26. Drew says:

Bucknor, thats a strike all day dude. Are you serious?

  27. Mike Axisa says:

For a guy that good, I hate that A-Rod’s a guess hitter. He could just shut off his brain, let his instincts take over, and still mash.

    Like Vlad.

  28. e mills says:

Clint Barnes inside the park HR

  29. Salty Buggah says:

Cmon into tonight, Gaudin’s FIP was about .30 higher than Mitre’s coming into tonight.

  30. Drew says:

Looks like a hot pink helmet. Blue ftw

  31. Mike Axisa says:

Man, Tex looked weird in the Angels uni in that highlight.

  32. JSquared says:

If the first base umpire wont do it, do it yourself.

  33. Keanu Reeves says:

That was awful. Hunter’s barrel went almost 3/4 of the way around.

  34. Salty Buggah says:

Gaudin says fuck the ump, I gots this shit myself

  35. Don’t you have to earn a scholarship, too Michael?

  36. Accent Shallow says:

Willing to bet Joba makes at least one postseason start, as long as the Yankees don’t lose in the ALDS.

  37. Oh, Andy. You’re so funny and clever.

  38. rafael says:

I really hate the Angels’ announcers.

  39. Salty Buggah says:

You know, I’ve never seen a HR in my few times playing OF in a game (not for a team or anything, just with friends). In fact, I’ve never seen a HR (except in a live MLB game) in real life, besides the few I hit. My neighborhood park is huge though.

    • Dela G says:

i hit a homerun in my softball league last year (290 feet to center) beyond the centerfield wall.

that was the only HR i’ve ever hit in softball (about 60 or so games).

I hit quite a few (about 7 a year) as a jr high/high school baseball player, but a softball is so much harder to hit out of the park

      • Salty Buggah says:

        290ft = Weak! :)

The park I play in is at least 400 to center, where I hit it but batting lefty helped. But it is the thin Colorado air here.

        • Dela G says:

:D well next time i’ll do my best to hit 400 feet! However, the air is very dense/humid where i live (college station, tx), so the ball has to be murdered (especially at night) to get anywhere :(

  40. Dela G says:

    damn gaudin is murderin em

  41. zs190 says:

For what it’s worth, Gaudin is really really inefficient when he pitches. Sometimes it feels like he just gets more lucky than Joba and gets out of jams better, is it more experience, better mental fortitude, or just more grit?~

    • Salty Buggah says:

Yea, he is usually inefficient. He is VERY lucky according to his FIP.

    • whozat says:

Well, of late Joba has been terrible, without command and just bad.

The normal Joba, who was winning but generally inefficient was not all that different from Gaudin. It’s just that we expect Joba to be Justin Verlander and throw 6-8 dominant innings. We expect Gaudin to not totally suck.

  42. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Do ya Think They will celebrate clinching a Playoff Spot today ?

  43. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    seeeeeee yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  44. Homerdeki strikes again.

  45. Dela G says:

  46. Drew says:

Godzilla has been, well… Godzilla this year.

  47. JSquared says:

    an H-BOMB!!

  48. Accent Shallow says:

Not confident in the lead just yet, but I like this. Anyone else still think they’ll blow the division?

  49. Riddering says:

This just in: Yanks can’t hit homers off of playoff pitchers.

    • sangreal says:

Well Santana is being banished to the bullpen for the playoffs, no?

I never bought into that crap anyway. This game is a good reminder why people need to chill out over the 4th starter, since the other team is going to be sending out theirs.

  50. Mike Axisa says:

Should have traded him for Jonathan Sanchez or Noah Lowry when they had the chance…

  51. Keanu Reeves says:

Alright. I’m convinced. They need to sign Matsui next year.

  52. Brazilian Yankee says:

    Hideki crushed that one.

  53. Salty Buggah says:

    A little late but…Matsui!

  54. Brazilian Yankee says:

    What happened to Posada?

  55. Salty Buggah says:

Robbie closing in on 200 hits for the year

  56. kyra says:

damn…they better sign matsui next year.

  57. Hi, I'm Jerry, this is my associate Cornelius says:

that was a crotunglious blast by hideki.

  58. kyra says:

i don’t want to see them celebrate if we lose.

  59. Accent Shallow says:

I know he just GIDPed, but I’m so glad Keith Law was wrong about Swisher being done. (Not to pick on Mr. Law, who I think is a solid analyst with a name like a deputy sheriff in a bad Western, but I believe he said something to that effect in an ESPN chat)

Upon reflection, he had issues with Swisher’s bat speed. *shrug*

  60. Mike Axisa says:

Aybar fouled off like, three balls (as in out of the zone) in that at-bat. Sciosciaball at it’s best.

  61. Drew says:

    That was kind of funny.

  62. Accent Shallow says:

Jeff Mathis sucks so bad that even BABIP hates him.

  63. Salty Buggah says:

Yea, my latest one. I thought I hit a line drive double but it surprisingly got out and hit someone’s deck in their backyard. What was special about it was that it was A-rod-esque. It was my first time playing in about a year and it was the 1st pitch I saw. Straightaway center but again from my left side. I don’t remember hitting any HRs from my right side, though I reached the fence a couple of times.

  64. JSquared says:

    Das Luck!!

  65. Mike Axisa says:

    What a fucking cheapie.

  66. Dela G says:

wow what a cheap ass home run

thanks for not calling strike 3 ump

  67. Accent Shallow says:

If the Angels win this game, I’m remembering the non-strike 3 call. Horseshit.

  68. whozat says:

    …really? Wow.

  69. Drew says:

I know Kay “has to” raise his voice when the other team scores, but does he have to get so enthusiastic?

  70. Keanu Reeves says:

  71. Dela G says:

cmon chad, you need ONE MORE OUT

  72. Brazilian Yankee says:

That HR only happened because the ump refused to strike out Figgins on a slider that was clearly a strike. Gotta love them umps.

  73. Accent Shallow says:

Two straight XBHs to slap hitters? Yarg. Lock the state.

  74. whozat says:

Come on, Chad! _one_ more out!

  75. JMK says:

Haven’t had situations to use Aceves? Did he really say that? Really?

  76. Dela G says:

cmon chad, find the fucking K zone

  77. Dela G says:

    let’s get him out

  78. Accent Shallow says:

One more pitch to get out of here, please.

  79. Seeing Bobby Abreu’s generous yet oddly effective stomach paunch in that Angel Red reminds me of a certain someone…

  80. Dela G says:

    let him face vlad

if he can’t get vlad out, then do something

  81. JMK says:

The wheels on the bus are falling off…falling off…

  82. whozat says:

    good call on that pitch.

  83. I got a dollar that says that Gaudin gets out of this unscathed.

  84. Accent Shallow says:

I know Joe wants to get him the win, but if Vlad reaches, you have to yank Gaudin. Sheesh, some managers would have yanked him after the walk.

  85. Dammit, I thought he had it!

  86. Mike Axisa says:

Fuck! I thought Jorge caught that.

  87. JSquared says:

    it’s 0-2… WTF… down the middle?

  88. Dela G says:

    fucking A

    bring in ace

  89. whozat says:

  90. Mike Axisa says:

    Sheesh, quick hook.

  91. Accent Shallow says:

Zero reason to throw Vlad a strike. Bounce three sliders in the dirt, then consider it.

  92. Brazilian Yankee says:

Alright, that’s enough. Good move by Girardi.

  93. Salty Buggah says:

    damnit Chad…had him 0-2 too

  94. Accent Shallow says:

Fangraphs has the Yankees WE% at 81%. Certainly feels like a lot less.

  95. Mike Axisa says:

    Who’s ready for AcevesRust?

  96. Lanny says:

Usually playoff starters have to go more than 4 innings. That goes for both Gaudin and Joba.

    They should combine their forces.

  97. leokitty says:

Gaudin’s okay but he’s a 5th starter and this is what 5th starters are.

It’s too bad you can’t flip his composure switch back to on, though.

  98. Salty Buggah says:

    cmon Ace

  99. Marc says:

I love that picture of Mantle in the magic number. That picture should be made a staple somewhere on the website.

  100. Accent Shallow says:

Aceves’ lack of pitching: giving him a rest, or poor bullpen usage?

  101. JMK says:

    I think he went around…

  102. First base ump loves Hunter.

  103. Mike Axisa says:

Twice. Fucking twice Torii’s swung and they called it a ball.

  104. Accent Shallow says:

Torii Hunter is really making out on those check swings.

  105. Dela G says:

    wow he totally swung

  106. Salty Buggah says:

    fuck you Mike Everitt

  107. JMK says:

    Acevesrust sez wut?

  108. Accent Shallow says:

    <3 Aceves <3

    More runs, please.

  109. Salty Buggah says:

  110. Dela G says:

  111. AndrewYF says:

See, Ace is alright. He’ll probably be getting lots of rest in the playoffs as well. Good to know he won’t suffer from rust.

  112. Keanu Reeves says:

Hunterophobia: The fear of calling seemingly obviously check swing strikes against Torii Hunter.

  113. Lanny says:

So thats where Aceves has been? Good to know. A guess pitching once a week does him well. I guess we’ll see the 12 pitches a week from Hughes tonight too.

  114. Another run or two would be nice. It’s nice to see Ace coming out with the good stuff, but 1/3 of an inning is a lot different than a whole inning or two.

  115. Where was that range the last two seasons, Bobby?

  116. Drew says:

Abreu eats pieces of shit like UZR for breakfast.

  117. Accent Shallow says:

    Bobby is killing me.

  118. JMK says:

I can’t believe Abreu ran down Gardner’s flyball. He looks less athletic than Steven Hawking out there.

  119. Dela G says:

is santana at 100 pitches yet?

  120. JMK says:

Where’s A-Gonz? It doesn’t feel like a spillover thread without inane comments (of a trolling nature, I suspect) and four hundred comment responses.

  121. Accent Shallow says:

    I gotta pass out.

Win expectancy at 84% currently, so if they blow it I won’t be pleased.

Night all, and now do you see why the Sox aren’t a concern?

  122. I gotta admit, I’m a little sad that we’re winning. That means the Mick is only going to have a scant few hours on the RAB sidebar before he’s gone.

He’d better start drinking now before it’s too late.

  123. Drew says:

lol I flipped over to Larry King. I heard Tyra Bank’s talking about her hair and that she doesn’t want to get into it because it is too political.

  124. Dela G says:

    cmon ace

please get out of this :)

  125. Brazilian Yankee says:

    God I hate the Angels.

  126. Mike Axisa says:

Damn, I guess Aceves needed 9 days of rest!

  127. Drew says:

    Woot, GMJ sighting.

  128. danny says:

    lets go ace!

  129. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

You get this feeling that the Mexican Jumping Beans will prevail in this game…

  130. Is it just me or is Kay expecting the Yankees to lose this game?

    • Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

      I am too… =(

I think they have a 10% chance of winning. I don’t think they will score any more runs this game.

  131. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

God I hate the Angels with a passion. It is embarassing that they keep singling us to death on 2 strikes.

  132. Dela G says:

you’ve got to be fucking kidding me

    cmon aceves

you are better than this shit

  133. Mike Axisa says:

And this is where not having D-Rob hurts.

  134. Ace is getting hit hard here.

  135. JSquared says:

Pitch should never have been close to being a strike…

  136. Tank the Frank says:

Aceves doesn’t understand the concept of throwing 0-2 pitches off the plate. If there’s anything I have against the Gangster, he throws too many strikes.

  137. Brazilian Yankee says:

Fuck, why can’t they go down easily?

  138. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

He wont get figgins out here i dont believe

  139. JMK says:

Damon’s throw made it to the infield?

  140. Mike Axisa says:

Take him the fuck out already. Gaudin didn’t get a leash this long.

  141. Dela G says:

    oh my god

    bases are fucking loaded

you’ve got to be kidding me

    you really do

  142. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

Knew it. Here come 100 more singles. F the Angels. The Yankees need to study some Red Sox tape.

  143. V says:

Anyone else noticing how Bucknor’s strike zone tends to shrink when men get on base?

  144. After being down 2-0, Aceves put every pitch in literally the same spot. Why not at least try to go inside?

  145. JMK says:

These hanging breaking balls have accounted for most of the pitching problems tonight, it seems.

  146. Brazilian Yankee says:

Ace is not fooling anyone. He looks like crap today.

  147. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

Now they are throwing bats at posada. He should get ejected for being a @#$(!&@#($&!

  148. V says:

  149. Mike Axisa says:

Are you kidding me? Hold on to the fucking bat.

  150. Dela G says:

    fucking a izturis

  151. Lanny says:

Memo to Girardi. Thats what happens when a pitcher doesnt pitch for a week.

Why won’t he take a clearly inffective pitcher out?

  152. Drew says:

hold onto the fucking bat cocksucker

    Rule #1: Don’t get hurt.

  154. pat says:

Better the meat of the shoulder than hand.

  155. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

I bet you the guy on first steals home and everyone in front of him scores.

  156. Okay. Breathe. Get the last one now. Please.

  157. Dela G says:

    gigantic out

  158. pat says:

    Don’t worry guys Bruney’s warming.

  159. Mike Axisa says:

If you’re not going to use Marte to face Abreu, then when the fuck are you going to use him? Awful job Girardi, just atrocious.

  160. Dela G says:

    sit bruney down

put him on a plane back to siberia

  161. Tank the Frank says:

And Joe doesn’t bring in the lefty to face Abreu because………..

  162. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

This is hurting me. How come every time I turn on the Yankee game they instantly suck?

  163. Moshe Mandel says:

    I hate umps.

  164. So, Aceves has lost his command and has given up some hard contact, yet you keep him in against the guy who’s literally the most patient hitter in the league and who can hit with pop?

  165. whozat says:

    THat was definitely a strike.

  166. aj says:

    Hey look! A strike!

  167. JMK says:

    Gift of a call.

  168. danny says:

    c’mon ace, you got this

  169. aj says:

Wow. Aceves has some big balls to throw that one

  170. Drew says:

Elevated pitches + Bobby = bad news

  171. JMK says:

So perhaps giving a guy 19 days of rest (I rounded up) isn’t the greatest idea, huh.

  172. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

Abreu is the perfect hitter for the Angels. Annoying slap hitter.

  173. Tank the Frank says:

I think we can honestly have a debate now as to whether Girardi is a good manager. There have been more than a few very questionable decisions this season…I wish I could remember some of them from earlier on.

  174. aj says:

    Si se puede!

  175. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

    This game is over.

  176. JMK says:

He walked in a fucking run?

  177. ShuutoHeat says:

That fucking swing from Mathis makes me want tie him down and take swings at him till he gets the idea. Who the heck swings like that?

He had his bottom hand off the bat at the follow through of the swing, of course that shit bat is going to fly out of your hands. I’m so pissed at that, that I think it was on purpose.

  178. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

wth i went to da chinese store and left the game 5-0 and came back its 5-4.

  179. kunaldo says:

    of course

  180. JSquared says:

I like how Abreu throws the bat like he’s tough or mad…

  181. This is why you don’t let guys go 8 days without pitching.

  182. danny says:

  183. aj says:

    :O! A GOD!

  184. Drew says:

    Best player in the game.

  185. JSquared says:

    A-God > Angels.

  186. Alfredo Aceves needs to buy A-Rod a steak and a blow job tonight.

  187. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    what a play by arod.

  188. Keanu Reeves says:

There’s nothing quite like a bases loaded walk to make me squirm.

  189. pat says:

    Arod with the CANNON

  190. Lanny says:

Anyone want to explain why Marte is even out in the pen? Why doesnt he just go home?

If he cant face lefty’s like Bobby A he shouldnt be on the team.

  191. ShuutoHeat says:

  192. Tom Zig says:

  193. Tank the Frank says:

    Holy dogshit.

  194. Rice Eats Paint Chips says:

If the Yankees dont score more runs they will lose this game…

  195. EB says:

Why not go to marte vs abreu

  196. handtius says:

    nice play by a-rod.

  197. Brazilian Yankee says:

For a guy who loves him some matchups that was a puzzling decision not to bring in Marte.

  198. Dela G says:

    thank god

    they got out of it

    thank you lord

  199. whozat says:

It’s cool, guys. Bruney will throw the 7th, so we can be sure to lose the game.
