JMK aka The Overshare says:

First spillover we’ve had in a while.

Mike bk says:

a marathon of entourage would only take like 5-6 hours since it only gets like a dozen shows a season.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I’ve never been able to get into Entourage. None of the characters are likable.

Riddering says:

When you get to Coney’s age, that is a marathon.

Mike bk says:

didnt say it wasnt…someone said like 10 in the original thread was all i was commenting on.

Drew says:

So next year does Girardi wear #28 or does he stick with the lucky 27?

Drew says:

Dela G says:

this has been a great game to watch. Glad AJ has win #100 locked up, Alex gets 30/100 and the yanks get win 103 while joba looked pretty good in his one inning of relief.

The lost story in this game will prolly be the fact that AJ Burnett had a good game after getting a little lost early at the plate

ansky says:

Awesome show…till this season. Its been straight garbage.

crapulent aka I said good day sir says:

I don’t like the E story lines. He bores me.

Yanks4ever says:

i love the E story. More Sloan time for the masses :)

Mike bk says:

so we get 10 pitchers.
CC, Andy, AJ, Phil, Mo, Ace are locks.
Coke and Marte will be there because they are lefty.
That leaves K-rob, Bruney, Gaudin, Joba for 2 spots.

I got K-Rob and Joba.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Ravens better do something here

ansky says:

Orlando Cabrera scares me a little bit….it seems like every playoff team he’s on wins the WS.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

He’s been on 6 teams, and only the Red Sox have won with him on their roster in 2004*

We have Eric Hinske though… went to the WS with the Rays and Red Sox, so we’re next!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Girardi needs a K-cup of coffee. Who but?!

Mike bk says:

baltimore down to the 20.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I’ve figured it out. Phil Hughes wants to become the WB Mason guy. This is why he grows out that weird thing above his lip.

/Super Sleuth

ansky says:

Is Freddy Guzman on the playoff roster?

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I’d expect him to be.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Most likely, and as a pinch runner only.

Jersey says:

Do-or-die time for the Ravens.

Jersey says:

Mike bk says:

Hello says:

Chances we see Joba out of the pen in a big spot in the ALDS?

Mike bk says:

im going with 80% after today

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

I’m hoping their will be no big spots for the pen as we win the series on three blowouts.

Dela G says:

great season for the yanks’ offense

now mariano can close out the pitching side

JMK aka The Overshare says:

103 games. I predicted that total about a month ago!

Bob Stone says:

Dela G says:

great way to end the regular season

win division: check

win home field advantage: check

win a playoff series for the first time since 2004: let’s get that done too

ansky says:

Awesome season!!! Great win for Posada. Now the REAL season can begin.

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

crapulent aka I said good day sir says:

NICE NICE season. Let’s match it in the playoffs!!!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

On A-Rod’s hitting today, and the rest of the season. Mo: God (read: Mariano Rivera) is there.

Mike P says:

Only the Lord can refer to himself in the third person.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Thanks for a great season to team and thanks to Ben, Mike and Joe for a great season on this blog!!!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

+3 to that. Great job by Ben, Mike and Joe. Unquestionably the best Yankee blog out there.

Bob Stone says:

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Jets not doing so hot. 10-0 Saints.

Dela G says:

damn it sanchez, we didn’t need that there

Pasqua says:

Something we’ll need to get used to…at least for a while.

Drew says:

That recap vid YES just did was pretty damn sick.

J says:

Made me cry. Awesome awesome season

Randy A. says:

Ya I enjoyed it…I hope they put it up on their website.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Marion the Barberian!!!

Drew says:

For a dude named Pierre, that was pretty sick.

Mike bk says:

not as good as the stand that followed.

4th and 1 and no points to show for it? Epic fail

Drew says:

Spoke a bit soon I suppose.

Pasqua says:

This is the game Sanchez was bound to have. And I don’t mean that in a snide way…it was just inevitable.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Plus: The Saints are just a very good team.

sal says:

Ok So I’ve been a Yankee fan since 1968 and now I’m 52, Married and Living in Florida. Here is my QUESTION: My wife has gotten a job tha starts in two weeks in BOSTON !! Should I divorce her or move to Boston with her and be a yankee Spy lmao

pete says:

i think, being that you are 52, you should not say lmao. And i mean that in the kindest, most constructive way

I’m sorry, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a 52-yr-old saying “lmao.”

JMK aka The Overshare says:

It all depends if Bo and Lanny will move out there with you…

Mister Delaware says:

I’m originally from NY but haven’t lived there since college. We moved to Somerville (3 miles N of Boston) back in February and love it here. Fans that actually reside in Boston are far more tolerable (and tolerant) than Red Sox Nation’s extended arm. I wear my Yanks hat everywhere, including Cask & Flagon for the Brad Penny death game, and have had no issues.

[/sales pitch]

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

9-run-lead with 3 outs to go, I think it’s safe to say:

We will have baseball on Tuesday.

john says:

why wouldn’t it be monday?

ZDW says:

john says:
ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

There’s also a reply button, which you didn’t see.

Ben says:

Joba is where he belongs. Pen

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

sal says:

Rolling my eyes at the person that said @52 I shouldn’t LMAO . I even remember Black and White TV. I owned 8-track tapes and own a yankee seat from the OLD PARK before it was rebuilt in 1970′d. and Damn proud of it.

P.S. paid $15 buck for the seat and I believe its worth closet to 3,000 now

pete says:

it’s actually my opinion that nobody should say lmao. I just hold 52-year-olds to higher standards of general conduct and worldliness, ya know, since they’re 52

sal says:

ROTFLMAO Worldliness , Hummmmm I was born on Long Island, My worldliness ended at the Comack Motor INN hehe

This might be the best comment ever.

sal says:

Playoff Roster

1-Sabathia, CC
2-Pettitte, Andy
3-Burnett, A.J.
4-Chamberlain, Joba
5-Aceves, Alfredo
6-Coke, Phil
7-Marte, Dámaso
8-Robertson, David
9-Hughes, Phil
10-Rivera, Mariano

11-Posada, Jorge
12-Molina, José

13-Matsui, Hideki

14-Teixeira, Mark
15-Canó, Robinson
16-Jeter, Derek
17-Rodríguez, Álex
18-Hairston Jr., Jerry

19-Cabrera, Melky
20-Damon, Johnny
21-Gardner, Brett
22-Guzmán, Freddy
23-Hinske, Eric
24-Swisher, Nick

?25 Peña, Ramiro – don’t think we will need to rest anyone in 5 games

?25 Cervelli, Francisco – if Molina starts cause of A.J. and pinch hit for Molina and Posada gets hurt in that game. Then he’s your #25

?25 Gaudin, Chad – unless your going to need a 5th starter in the playoffs, he’s not needed you have Aceves for the long man

?25 Bruney, Brian – Unless Nick Swisher can’t give you a few inning in a 25-3 blowout or want to give the other team so hope, no need to have him on the play off roster.

Hinske, Eric won’t get an at bat or in a game as I see it. I just don’t think they will drop him from the playoff Roster.

Best 25 includes Peña, Ramiro and Cervelli, Francisco and no Hinske . It makes them more flexable when it comes to pinch running with Garder and Guzman

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

I want Hinske on the roster because of the chance one of A-Rod, Tex, Damon and Swisher could get hurt. He is the only one who could somewhat replace them.

Drew says:

Hinske can get an AB if it’s late and close and we have our defensive outfield in the game; Melky in left, Gardy in center and Swish in right. I think there is a good shot that Hinske will hit for Gardy if it is not a blowout.

Jersey says:

Man, that is a beastly team right there.

Though I’d still prefer Gaudin to start over Joba in the ALCS.

pete says:

i’ve been on the fence for a while, but i really do think that joba’s too tired to give you any real chance at a quality start. I’d prefer not to have to start chad gaudin, but he’s likely to be between joba and something better than joba, so he’s really the best 4th starter option we have, I think

Joba Rules says:

No Marte, and bring Pena and Gaudin or Cervelli…also why the fuck is Freddi Guzman there?

Joba Rules says:

Who is going for the Twins/Tigers on Tuesday?

sal says:

Go Tigers , I alays perfer playing a team thats NOT HOT. The Twins are hot !!! any team that can win a big game with Carl Pavano pitching FOR THEM is to hot to play in a best of 5

Carl Pavano Carl Pavano Carl Pavano Carl Pavano Carl Pavano OMG Ace pitcher now I’m really rolling my eyes

Jared says:

i believe its porcello for the tigers…not sure about the twins

Mister Delaware says:

Should be Baker for the Twins. I had assumed Detroit would throw Jackson.

Jersey says:

I’d be shocked if it wasn’t Jackson. He’ll be on his regular rest on Tuesday.

Dela G says:

if they start jackson that would mean they would have to go porcello to start game 1… no need to try and give yourself an auto loss there if you are detroit

Mister Delaware says:

That’s some terrible logic.

Dela G says:

how is that terrible logic? jackson hasn’t been good this past month, and porcello has been pretty good. Roll with the best you have left, which is porcello

Jersey says:

Yeah, but they still have to get in. I think you gotta go with your best, even if Jackson has struggled of late. It’s the equivalent of leaving Mo on the bench in the 9th inning of a tie game.

Drew says:

Whoa whoa whoa, slow down there chief rocka. The dropoff b/w Jackson:Porcello is nowhere near the dropoff b/w Mo:Human.

No way. That situation is like deciding between Bruney and Robertson in a tie game in the 9th inning because Mo (Verander) is unavailable.

Mister Delaware says:

Which guy is Bruney in this instance?

(Comments wont nest below this level)
ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

I would guess Bruney because he is the veteran. Plus, he can be sensationell when he is on, but if he is not, it gets ugly.

Bruney = Jackson. Great stuff, very inconsistent.

Jersey says:

OK, forget I said Mo, but the point still stands that you go with your best available, which is not Porcello.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Jersey says:

Nevermind, Jackson would not be on full rest.

john says:

rick porcello vs. scott baker, just checked twins website

Jersey says:
Mister Delaware says:

Yeah. Jackson has not been effective in the 2nd half but assigned game 163 to a kid who can’t legally get drunk if he loses is risky.

Hello says:

Jackson would be on 3 days rest, not full.

Jersey says:

You’re right, now that I looked. Guess the whole argument is moot.

hal says:

Tex kept referring to being ready on Wed in post game interview, does that seal it for everyone that they are picking the “A” series ?

john says:

i would say it’s pretty much set. if the tie breaker is on tuesday, i see no reason not to set the first post season game of the winner the next day. the winner of the tie breaker would have to fly to new york that night.

Drew says:

I think Teix would say he’ll be ready for Wednesday whether or not he knew what schedule we choose.

Another stop on 4th and short for the Jets. With about 3 minutes left in the 3rd, the Jets D has held the Saints to 3 points, in New Orleans. Legit.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Offense today? Illegit. Quit.

pete says:

un, not il. but props for the greatest movie ever reference

BigBlueAL says:

I hate that Games 1 and 2 will be at 6 pm est. Horrible start times for a weeknight game.

Since I ump every weeknight at 7:30 I will have to choose to either ump and miss the Yankee games or not. Obviously I will not miss the Yankees games, but when Fox and ESPN carried the division series games the Yankees would b play at 8 or maybe at 7 once in awhile but usually always at 8. Fucking TBS will be costing me around 70 bucks this week….

john says:

damn i’m in san diego on business. here it will start at 3:00. i probably won’t be able to watch til the very end, if at all.

Jeff says:

Is Game 2 officially a 6 PM start time? Haven’t seen that anywhere.

Pasqua says:

MLB.com only has Game 1 listed as a 6:07 start. Game 2 is TBD.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Whew, stopped them on 4th-and-1 in field goal range. Could we please have some sort of drive, Mr Romo, like with first downs?

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

Got too greedy, I guess. At least we got 1:18 off the clock.

Drew says:

“Everyone expected the Yankees to make the playoffs”
-Steve Phillips

…Except for most of the people at ESPN, right Steve?

Jersey says:

“Everyone expected me to say something stupid, but I didn’t! Yay!” -Steve Phillips’ brain after every stupid thing he says

Zack says:

“ESPN’s so-called experts who picked the team to finish third, including Jim Caple, Jerry Crasnick, Orel Hershiser, Eric Karabell, Amy Nelson, Buster Olney, someone named Nate Ravitz, and Gene Wojciechowski.”

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/bl.....mlb,192672

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Outside of Olney, I’m not sure anyone listens to what any of them say. A few of them are fantasy people, one is an admitted Yankee hater (Caple), one from ESPN Boston (Nelson), one isn’t really a baseball guy (Wojo-whatever-his-name-is), and Crasnick and Orel. Meh. I’d only listen to the last two anyway for some modicum of objectivity and insight.

Zack says:

I give credit to Olney because he’s admitted many times that he had them finishing 3rd. you’re right, the other guys no one really cares about, but those are who picked against them in preseason- and we all know the whole bbtn crew had the same opinions in april, may, june.

Randy A. says:

Olney even picked the yankees to miss the playoffs this year. I havent watched espn baseball commentary since the beginning of the MLB network. How can I respect what jayson stark has to say when he writes a book claiming that derek jeter is one of the most overrated players in the history of baseball?

BigBlueAL says:

Looking at the likely rotation for the Tigers and Twins for the ALDS, its a no-brainer we should be rooting for the Twins and it really isnt even a tough choice.

The Tigers will have Jackson and Verlander for Games 1 and 2 on normal rest, while the Twins best pitcher Scott Baker wont be available til Game 3 and even Blackburn wont be available on normal rest til Game 2 although he could pitch Game 1 on 3 days rest and Pavano (!!!!) on normal rest for Game 2. BTW this is all assuming the Yankees choose the long series, although even the shorter one wouldnt change the Tigers rotation although it would allow the Twins to have Blackburn start Game 1 on regular rest.

Lucky says:

Go yanks! i hope they get through to the ALCS and MLB will get the Sox/Yanks series it so desperately needs. Anyone else bothered by the fact that the Twins/Det tie/playoff isn’t even registering on ESPN, etc because of week 4 of the NFL?

I do think the Yanks will get by Det/Minn, but I also think CC will be bad. Big test will come in game 2 if the have to face Verlander down 1-0 and the bullpen in tatters. This is the scenario Cle and Milw faced the last two seasons.

Sox in 6. Yanks lack of a #4 will kill them

Drew says:

Sox? Their 4 starter is…?

Lucky says:

Dice K or Buchholz. Both have their ? but neither has been shut down!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Seriously? They’re both aces. One throws a boomerang called a “Gyroball” and the other throws stolen electronics.

Aces, motherfucker. Aces.

Lucky says:

We’re talking about #4 starters. Both have pitched like aces, but neither are looked at as aces.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Loss. (See below.)

Jose says:

Dice K is the greatest import since Kobe beef.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Jose says:

Buchholz? With his 5.74 ERA 1.723 WHIP 0.89 SO/BB 15.2 IP career against the Yankees? Matsuzaka? With his 5.49 ERA 1.561 WHIP 1.27 SO/BB 41.0 IP career against the Yankees?

Their #4 starter has really been lights out against the Yankees.

Lucky says:

So tell me who the NYY #4 starter is? Please make the case for him. Joba has been shut down due to collossal mismanagement of his season. He’s not going to be able to go more than a few innings. That leaves Brian Bruney. Again, this is amazing for a team with a payroll like the NYY and no injuries to their rotation other than the season-long issues with Wang.

Drew says:

Dude. You cannot be serious. The fourth starter is Joba or Gaudin. Joba has not been shutdown, he pitched a few hours ago.

Lucky says:

So you think Joba is the #4? Really? OK, I hope you are right, as the guy will have gone 2 months between full starts by then. Maybe the Sox should start Manny Delcarmen. I’d come up with a better comp, but there is nobody in the sox pen as bad as Joba.

Gaudin? I stand corrected. That’s a much better option for a #4 for a team with a $230 million payroll and no injuries. Maybe the Sox will use use Paul Byrd to make it fair

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Drew says:

Hey chief. Didn’t Joba just pitch against the Sox? Was that not a “full start?”

Also, our payroll is not 230 mil.

Jose says:

$201,449,189 rounds up to $230 million. That is basic math.

pete says:

not to mention season ending injuries to CMW and Xavier Nady, and minor injuries/ineffectiveness in the bullpen that forced 4th/5th starter candidate Phil Hughes out of the starting picture.

Lucky says:

Nady was going to be in the rotation? Hughes should have been in the rotation, I’ll give you that, but after Wang went down the NYY managmeent didn’t adjust. They stuck with Joba on the theory that they could manage his innings and have him cranked up to start in Oct, but that simply didn’t work out and the other options are career journeymen. It’s understandable for a team like Minn or Cle, but weak as hell for a team with their resources.

Two full months between starts? He just started on Wednesday. The playoffs don’t last until December.

Exaggeration will not help your argument one bit. In fact, it’ll do the complete opposite.

Lucky says:

I said “full start”. You are the one exaggerating. You know full well what I’m talking about. He’s going to the pen in the ALDS (if he makes the team at all — I’d send him to Tampa to stretch him out if I was NYY). He will not be in any shape to start in the ALCS

Jersey says:

Uh oh! Somebody forgot their crazy pills!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

They see me trollin’, they hatin’…

Zack says:

The fact that you do not know the difference between Brian Bruney and Joba (or Gaudin) is fucking hilarious.

Lucky says:

what have I posted that makes you think I don’t know the difference between them? Tell me again why Gaudin is better than Buchholtz?

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Riddering says:

You referred to Bruney as a starting pitcher.

He’s not.

He’s strictly a reliever.

Drew says:

Who is this Buchholtz character you speak of?

lol

I just hope Chambalin and Sarbathia pitch well.

Jose says:

Let’s just see how Gaudin has stacked up career against Boston. 2.64 ERA 1.467 WHIP 30.2 IP. Gaudin has been better against Boston then either of the two starters you mentioned have been against New York.

One of our potential number 4 starters has been better then both of their potential number 4 starters.

Lucky says:

Jose, this is idiotic and you (I hope) know it. Too funny.

(Comments wont nest below this level)
pete says:

Not really. Right now, Joba and very similar in terms of being guys who haven’t quite put it all together yet. In that matchup i’d have a little more faith in buccholz b/c he’s thrown this many innings before so he’s less likely to just be too tired to put together another good start.

Gaudin and Dice-K are also surprisingly similar in terms of results. Gaudin can get through 4-5 innings pretty reliably, but tends to fall apart after that b/c the opposing hitters catch up. Matsuzaka can get through 4-5 innings pretty reliably, but tends to fall apart after that b/c of an insanely high pitch count. Different methods, same madness.

In the end a potential yanks/sox 4th starter battle will be a battle of the bullpens and offenses. I’ll take the yanks on both accounts

Lucky says:

You do know that Dice K won 18 games last year and finished 3rd in the Cy Young then won the MVP (again) of the WBC before injuring himeself and being shut down to get ready for Sept/Oct, right? He’s come back better then ever. You should be terrified of Dice K, NY. He’s rested and pitching really well. Sox had the rotation depth, and quality management, to rest guys all summer to get ready for Oct while NYY have their starters on fumes.

Yanks4ever says:

Trolls are so pathetic…

/ RAB Universe

Drew says:

Buchholz has given up 12 runs in his last 8 innings. Today he shat the bed vs the Indians. He is their #3.

The idea that our #4 will “kill” us is crazy.

Jose says:

You can’t spell “unreasonable” without “reasonable”.

Lucky says:

Drew, you don’t want to argue #4 between Boston and NYY, trust me. Dice K has an ERA under 2 since coming back and Buchholz is the best pitcher on the staff (other than Lester) since being called up. Yes, Buchholz has struggled his last 2 starts, but the whole Yankee staff has struggled at the end, other than Burnett — who even the NYY management is afraid of. Your manager all but said they don’t trust him in Oct the other day. Bruney as a #4 is embarassing for a team with a $230 million payroll and no injuries since June.

Zack says:

“Bruney as a #4 is embarassing for a team with a $230 million payroll and no injuries since June.”

None of that makes sense

Randy A. says:

One start for each pitcher before the playoffs is a great sample size to use when evaluating your postseason rotation. Also, since when have the yankees had a 230 million dollar payroll?

Randy A. says:

(This comment is not pointed towards zack, its towards “lucky”)

Drew says:

Girardi “all but said” he doesn’t trust AJ? Facts are fun when you make them up. Also, Bruney? What?

Mister Delaware says:

Bruney is a better #4 than Okajima.

Lucky says:

So the Yankees signed BUrnett to be a #3 in the post-season? So Pettitte has had the kind of year that would make him a good #2 on a 100-win team? Nope. They don’t trust Burnett and putting him in the #3 spot is a blatant admission of that. I stand corrected, the Yankees’ payroll is just $211 million

This might be the most unintentionally hilarious thread in RAB history.

When did the Yankees put Burnett in the #3 spot? I’m fairly certain they haven’t announced anything yet, nor have they played the games.

Lucky says:

So they are going to bring BUrnett back on short rest to start on Wednesday? Come on

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Lucky says:

Oops. Game 2 is Thurdsday, but still. We all know what’s up. The aged and eroding Pettitte will start Game 2 so that there is no risk of Burnett getting 2 starts in the first round.

Game 1 is Wednesday, Game 2 is Friday. He can start Game 2 on regular rest.

Nice try though. Don’t let silly little things like facts ruin a perfectly good rant.

Lucky says:

Whatever. Burnett is not going to start game 2. You know it. I know it. I read it on this site.

http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....iew-17834/

Randy A. says:

are you the reincarnation of one alex gonzalez?

Drew says:
alex gonzalez says:
Drew says:

sorry. I think you can see why one might think so. He’s bringin’ the heat a la one “alex gonzalez.”

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Riddering says:

BRIAN BRUNEY IS A STARTING PITCHA?

Riddering says:

1. You think CC will be bad. That’s great and you’ve made a very compelling argument for why that would be so.

2. No, the bullpen would not be in tatters. Girardi’s a lot smarter than to blow the bullpen should Game 1 not be a success for the starting pitcher.

3. ‘Go Yanks’ to ‘Sox in 6′ in 2.1 paragraphs? Impressive!

Dela G says:

man sanchez looked like garbage today

i wish this game would happen later in the season if they could wrap up the division, but ugh

this game left a really bad taste in my mouth

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Yeah, he looked shitty, but whatever. Games like this are bound to happen. Better it happens early in the season when he can adjust to the mistakes and coverages as the weeks pass.

Mike–Mark Sanchez got you -0.08 points in fantasy today. Ouch.

Zack says:

brandon marshall > cowboys secondary

Steve H says:

Salty, you kissing McDaniels’ rings yet?

Drew says:

lol he hasn’t been around today.

Looks like there might be a little trouble with that last reception.

Drew says:

Does Kyle Orton really have highlights in his hair? Wow.

Newbie says:

Tigers rotation for the playoffs?
So if Porcello pitches on Tuesday, will it be Jackson in Game 1, Verlander in 2 then Porcello?

Dela G says:

it’s so odd that all three of those guys throw 96+

that’s a lot of heat to face 3 straight games, then you add in 99mph throwing fernando rodney

whozat says:

Porcello doesn’t really.

http://www.fangraphs.com/pitch.....p;pitch=FA

Every now and again, he has a game where he throws a FB or two that’s over 95. Most of the time, he sits low 90s with his 4-seamer.

Dela G says:

interesting that porcello’s velocity was like that. I came to my realization in the earlier statement from one game i watched earlier in the season where he had 2 or so innings of 95, 96, 97 so i just kept that assumption.

thanks for the chart

Jersey says:

Of course, Rodney frequently fails to predict where those 99 mph heaters are going.
