Yankees monitoring Michael Wuertz

In case you haven’t seen it yet, our own Joe Pawlikowski broke down the seemingly inevitable Cliff Lee trade from the Yankees perspective over at FanGraphs. It’s kinda long, Joe’s good at that, but it’s well worth the read. Make sure you check it out.

    Please decline, Seattle!

Seems that whenever a potential prospect reaches AAA for the Yankees, we trade him away. Not sure I would be surprised if Austin Romine is trade away next year.

    • Eric

I kind of doubt that, because Romine is looking like the best bet to replace Posada (and probably was prior to dealing Montero anyway).

      • Mike HC

Yup. The Yanks are starting to show their hand on how they viewed their top two catchers.

      • Stryker

and we all believed it when they said a-jax was the center fielder of the future. whoops.

        • YankeesJunkie

His average is .306 and BABIP at .422 with those types of numbers he may not be the Tiger CF in a couple years.

          • hello9

It’s worth noting his worst babip was .331 in single A.

But yeah, he’ll regress. However considering that he’s 23, has already posted a 2.3 war, at least half of which has been because of his stellar defense, I’d say its a strong bet he’ll be part of the tigers future.

everybody keeps bringing up Auston Romine as the fall back to Montero. I thought Gary Sanchez was our best catcher in the farm system?

    • radnom

Even if everything goes as well as it possibly can for Sanchez, there will be a sizable gap between Posada’s last days as an everyday catcher and Sanchez’s first days as an everyday catch.

Sorry for the misspelled name, Austin.

    • YankeesJunkie

He is 17 and on the GCL team, way too far out.
