A-Rod leaves game with tight left calf

By

Update (9:47pm): Alex left the game with a tight left calf and is day-to-day. Not tests are scheduled. And exhale.

8:53pm: Alex Rodriguez left today’s game after a 4th inning at-bat for an unknown reason. Replay showed him talking to Joe Girardi in the dugout, and he appeared to mouth the words “calf,” so perhaps it tightened up on him. Ramiro Pena took his place in the field in the top of the 5th. We’ll update this post with more info as we get it.

For as much money as A-Rod is getting paid he really needs to foresee injuries like this before they happen. That way we can get Pena in the #9 hole where he belongs, instead of cleaning up.

    • mike c says:

hopefully that’s what he did tonight… nobody even knows what happened with him yet

      +1

Well, it’s time to go stabbing.

    • Little Bill says:

I agree. It’s bad enough that he ruined team morale by not hitting #600 sooner. The poor August is a direct result of A-Rod’s selfish pursuit of an individual goal. He never has put the team ahead of individual accomplishments. And I still can’t fathom why he missed the team photo.

      • Angelo says:

This made me laugh. Are you someone from the MSM?

      • Lola says:

Bill, the fans and media hype are what made the stressful situation with A-Rod trying to get 600. The team was not upset because so many of them have been in similiar situations with records, of course, not of the caliber of 600 homeruns. He is only human, did you forget? Why are you “Little Bill”?

    • Angelo says:

How can he “foresee” injuries like this? Freak injuries do happen. Just saying.

      • Steve H says:

I was just kidding. Someone in the media(not worth looking up)a few months ago was pissed when A-Rod came out of a game due to injury and hadn’t told Girardi that something was bothering him.

        • Angelo says:

Ah, I thought so, but I wasn’t sure because you usually say very sane (well thought out) comments, haha.

        • radnom says:

While that article was a little absurd for other reasons Arod absofreakinglutely should have told Girardi that something was bothering him that day if he knew so before the game. Not necessarily to prevent Pena from batting cleanup, but you have to keep your manager informed of such things, especially if your 35 and have been banged up all year.

          • Steve H says:

Agreed. But that article was strictly a chance for someone to take shots at A-Rod. If it was Jeter, that article doesn’t get written. There were probably more words written about that than A-Rod saving a kid’s life.

      • Steve O. says:

We’re in the same camp. How could he possibly foresee a cramp, or whatever it was? I thought he wasn’t serious.

    • Lola says:

Psychic A-Rod – If he could foresee his injuries he could make as much money if not more foreseeing others injuries and earthquake predictions too. Your type of bitterness toward him is unfortunate. Yesterday the Stadium was sweltering. The players and the fans get dehydrated. The players get potassium loss by perspiring so much and that leads to cramping, especially in the legs.

    What the $$$$

    This is ugly

  3. Andy says:

    This is weird/annoying.

  4. larryf says:

Everything has to go right to win a championship. Not much going right tonight. Let’s hope it’s a mild strain..

I blame Matt Lauer and the Today Show. Protect Swish and CC.

  6. Andy says:

There was a post on the espn blog about how Alex wasn’t hustling when he grounded out yesterday, but I just wrote it off as Wallace Matthews just wanting to write something negative about Alex, since, like the rest of the media, it seems like he irrationally dislikes him.

    • Lola says:

You are right, the media is so envious of his talent. They should try playing in the heat, without any time off, get on a plane at 9pm Sunday night, get up at 6:30 to work out, go to Yankee Stadium and swelter, play in the humodity and rain with polyster outfits, sock, caps, stress and they’d be dead in 5 minutes. The media, they are tyrants. You people know infinitely more than they do.Most of you have probably played all positions on the field, whereas the sports writers are usually fat and kind of ugly. Now they are complaining about Derek being too old and he should retire or get traded because of last night.

  7. Frigidevil says:

ESPN just said it was indeed a calf injury

  8. EndlessMike says:

Is A-Rod turning into Ken Grieffy Jr.

  9. MikeD says:

A calf is better than hip or groin. Hopefully this is only a game or two, although it comes down to the severity of the calf injury.

  10. theyankeewarrior says:

11 fucking years since this has happened. Wake the fuck up, Yankees.

  11. Lola says:

    Steve,
I am glad you were kidding. I am new to this blog, only joining a few days ago. I was born in the Bronx and grew up with my big brother having to babysit for me, taking me to Yankee games and his ball games. My brother was FDNY, an FSU baseball scholarship, Yankee farm team, etc. I love baseball and the Yankees. FOr a girl I know a lot, but not everything.
