The RAB Radio Show: December 10, 2010

By

We’ve been on hiatus since Monday thanks to a hectic Winter Meetings schedule, but Mike and I are back to run down all the stuff we missed. And there’s plenty of it.

Cliff Lee remains atop the list. He has yet to choose between the Yankees and Rangers, though he has each team’s best offers at hand. We all have our pet theories on this one. If media reports are true that he wants to stay in Texas, then the Yankees must have offered a good chunk more money, or else I presume he would have chosen Texas.

Then we’re onto the other major moves of the week, including Carl Crawford and the Yankees’ courting of him. Cashman says it was a bluff. That does make sense, considering the team’s current payroll structure and its on-field needs.

What about Russell Martin? The Yanks nearly acquired him before the non-tender deadline, but he’s now a free agent and has three AL East teams vying for his services.

  • What Won’t Jesus Montero Do

Thanks for the long podcast. Work tonight will suck a lot less now that ill have a good excuse to not listen to my co-workers.

Arlington is a 5.5 hour ride from Little Rock. Saying that he’d be close to home would be equivalent to saying he’d be close to home in NY if he lived in Maine or Virginia.

    • http://www.secondavenuesagas.com Benjamin Kabak

This should be emphasized again and again and again. Just because Texas touches Arlington doesn’t mean it’s closer. Basically, he’ll have a shorter flight home if and when he wants to go home.

Russell Martin better not mean we are trading Montero. Not having Lee or Jesus is going to send me into a deep depression.

Martin hit 5HR’s and had 26 rbi’s in 97 games. Jesus will put up those same #’s during a hot week this summer.

If he does, Martin will be here to backup Montero and take over the starting position in case Jesus craps the bed.

You’re already probably depressed that Nunez isn’t the starting SS for 2011, though.

Anyway, yeah, I’m pretty sure they’re not going after Martin to replace Montero. Just he’s going to back up Montero and what have you. He might really struggle, both offensively and defensively.

Unless they are convinced Jesus can’t catch at the major league level and have been bluffing the whole time to boost his trade value. That’s not what I expect or think, but it’s a possibility.

If Cliff Lee doesn’t sign with the Yankees, I don’t want to see him go to the Rangers. Chuck Greenberg is one of the douchiest GMs in the game and the media would have a field day comparing him the Cashman.

    • FIPster Doofus

Daniels is the GM. Greenberg is the owner.

“The Yankees are taking an aggressive approach with Martin, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney”

It really seems like NY wants him and to get him they have to give him the starting job. Maybe they really want Montero in AAA some more or they feel know something we don’t about Pettitte.
